An interesting area of the Richmond canal walk, easily accessible from downtown/Shockoe bottom in Richmond Virginia. Lots of great artwork, that was most likely created by VCU art students / alumni. There is a paved or concrete pathway alongside the old retired canal. The canal was used as a source of transportation of goods brought by the riverboats on the James River. The canal runs parallel downtown Richmond and there are tour boats in the Shockoe bottom area near the river. The James River can be accessed in less than 5 minutes by foot after enjoying the Murals. There are also two islands adjacent to downtown Richmond, Browns Island and Belle Isle, both accessible by foot bridge, 5 & 10 minutes away by foot. Browns Island is a frequent host to public concerts and many events held in Richmond. Belle isle is a wooded natural island with several old historic buildings, a footpath around the entire island which is surrounded by large boulders and the James River running over and around them. The entire River area adjacent to downtown Richmond Virginia is like an oasis beside the City.I highly recommend giving the Richmond canal walk a visit. It will most likely be very enjoyable for the entire family, young and old. There are also many large parks, lots of great restaurants, many museums and a lot of venues to visit and see in the Richmond Virginia area.
Canal walk is such a great place to walk! I love the river. The industrial and nature meshing is such a nice vibe! A good place for a walk by yourself, with pets and friends as well as a good bike trail!
This is a pretty cool place to just come walk around and enjoy the views. Cant wait to go back with a few friends to take some more pictures maybe even make a video
