A unique place close to Redmond, OR. There are 5-6 caves. We did 2 of those. The caves have some sunlight at the entrance but gets pitch dark once you go deep inside. Must have flashlights and travel in groups. Need to bend the body quite a bit as you go inside but worth the experience. Very limited parking at the entrance.
Very awesome caves to see! I took my 3 and 5 year old and they loved it ! 2 caves are very close to the parking lot, no hiking what so ever. I did not go to the other 3 caves since I had my littles. I would recommend you bring a nice flash light if you want to go deep inside the caves since it gets very dark and little chilli inside. Keep you little ones close for there are rocks everywhere and can easily be tripped on.
Easy to get to and a short walk. Bring a flashlight if you want to go into the caves. Watch your dog in the summer time there could be snakes.
Please becareful! There was so many loose rocks that were about to fall but other then that its great place to bring your kids. But sadly I feel like a lot of homeless people sleep in there it smell like urine in there
The Redmond Caves are open to the public and are quick, but fun caves to explore. There are 5 caves in the set or various lengths and heights. Most are pretty low, so be prepared to crawl in a few places. A couple are long enough that you need lights to see, so bring a lantern or flashlight.
Oh my gosh! I had the greatest time! Although I am a person who can get down and dirty. Wouldnt recommend for cleaner people. You can go into the caves. It says there are bats, but I woundnt worry about it too much just dont bother them. Would recommend going with friends, and or, family. WATCH OUT FOR GLASS!!! There is graffiti on the walls which doesnt make it a real cave. BRING FLASHLIGHTS WITH YOU. Not the little ones or your phone. Bring big reliable flashlights.
Cool caves. Not long. Not too low. Good for casual caving. Little to no parking.
Pretty neat place to explore and visit. Theres really no parking lot so when you get to the boulders and the gate that is literally the entrance. I was skeptical at first. The first cave is not too far down from the posted sign. If youre wanting to just check out the first two they are relatively close. I recommend bringing your cell phone for a flashlight or bringing a flashlight / headlamp if youd like to go spelunking.
1st cave was the best one by the entrance. It is a good place to have a fun with kids, make sure to take a flash light.
Bring a good flashlight! Our phone lights werent really strong enough. Nice activity for the family!
Super cool. Took us about an hour to go through them all. Bring flashlights.
It was a nice little adventure for our grand children
Pretty cool caves. Bring a flashlight. Would be nice if the caves were marked better along the trail.
Out of the dozens of times Ive been to Redmond, I never knew this place existed. Its a secret that very few people know about. A jem for sure. And finding out that the native Americans used this place for a few thousand years. The scenery around this place is absolutely beautiful! Its maintained very well. One thing to remember. Its REALLY REALLY DARK INSIDE. I thought that Id use my super bright cell phone flashlight function like Id do in a dark room or building which works great, but inside the cave, its a whole new experience. Its so dark in there, that the darkness swallows all of the light. It did absolutely nothing. So, on our next visit we are gonna bring some way better flashlights to be able to see. I went in about 100 feet, could not go any further since that cell phone light did absolutely nothing when I met someone coming from further inside and I asked how much further it goes and he said another 300 feet of so and was told that it branches off into a couple directions, so we are super excited to see where they lead too. I definitely say that this is an amazing place to explore and isnt well known so its not crawling with tons of people. On a weekend afternoon, we only saw about 6 people. Come check this place out. You wont be disappointed
Despite the graffiti and weed smokers (nice lol), the caves were pleasant to look at and explore.Cave 2 could not be located but Caves 1, 3, & 4 were accessable.Bring a jacket as the caves are cold!
Caves are pretty cool, however there were some individuals smoking weed and cigarettes inside, so kids couldnt even go in.
Very cool and amazing
Great place for a little adventure
A nice untainted group of caves (there are 5). Complete with archeological facts that they found at the site. Some of these caves are a belly crawl sort so be prepared to get sandy and dirty.Note: white noise syndrome is killing millions of bats. Please read up on it at the us forestry site before going into any caves.
For a place right neartown, it was a super cool place to go. Quick and easy adventure
Fun for kids, nice local geological attraction
Really only 1 cave you can go into, the others are too low or too small.
A great experience to the life of central Oregon! A must visit. Its family friendly. I had a headlamp but another group just used their cell phone lights. I liked that I still had my hands to use. You can be as adventurous as you want or not. At one point, I was crawling but you can stop well before that point. It was a bit chilly, so Id recommend a jacket but I really enjoyed myself!!
Surprisingly close to town, big open caves that are filled with NSFW graffiti. Still pretty cool, literally and figuratively. Lots of lizards above ground, so thats cool.
Not much to see here, caves are very small but a great first time experince for new people.
Went here with kids, 4 and 8. Used cell phone flashlight but it would be be better had we brought headlamps. A neat experience.
I liked it alot there is a few caves that are a bit hard to enter but most of them are fairly simple to get into they are very cool to look at and walk through
The caves are facinating and they are very safe
An enjoyable but small system of lava tubes. 5 caves, free parking, no restrooms. Only one cave goes all the way through. The rest end quite abruptly. Expect to crawl on your belly over a sandy floor if you want to reach the end of some of them. Obviously a party spot for kids over the years as there is some graffiti, cigarette butts and broken glass... but not enough to ruin the experience. Probably 1-2 hours if youre willing to get down and dirty caving. Maybe 30 mins if not.
Not much to see. Only 5 sites and 2 are small
Bring a good flashlight
Fun little cave complex, great for our 4 yo, was clean and cool inside the lava tubes.
Very cool!
Grand kids loved it
We were able to enjoy the caves with our cellphone flashlights.
Easily found near the airport, the history of the area and how this was formed is amazing. I brought my flashlight but my partner did not want to go in the caves, so I did not explore inside for too long or too far. Easy walk to any of the caves.
If you are looking for a quick and close adventure that is kid friendly this is a nice option. There is unfortunately broken glass in many places so make sure the little ones are wearing shoes.
Free parking and free exploration. Bring a light. It was fun and the cooler temp was nice!
It was so cool just remember a flashlight and a jacket it get cold in their
A lot of fun for the kids. Better to watch your head than the ground as very jagged celling.
Bing a flashlight and you can go pretty far into a couple of the caves. They are a lot bigger than the appear at first.
A little scary but fun.
Really sad to see such a beautiful environment be treated so poorly! Spray paint and tagging everywhere, with trash towards the end of the caves. Take the hour and see all five caves, you might be disappointed but I can imagine it used to be beautiful.
Go on your own!!! Only for thrill seekers.
Wish people wouldnt deface these natural rock formations
They were beautiful. Lots of lovely wildlife as well
There are 5 caves here
I think the state can now afford to take better care of its parks. There is broken glass and beer cans all over the place. I really like the area other than the debris and lack of clean up.
This place is cool . easy walk and if not busy a great place to dab or smoke a j
Great place to take the kids spelunkin
Be sure to bring a good flashlight!! The one on your phone is not good enough!!
A great place to explore
Nice on a hot day, nice and cool down in caves. The middle cave is the most interesting to explore.
Nice place to visit when it is over 100 outside. Inside the caves are nice and cool.
Caves are short, not very long. But its a fun adventure to explore around for the littles I your life
If you have small kids this is a perfect place to take them to see caves, if you dont it is still fun. Perfect place to kill a half hour, its about a 1/2 mile round trip. Better then expected.
They were great fun, but you can tell kids or homeless had been there. Broken glass everywhere was very disheartening, due to my child, 4, not being able to step in a lot of places. Also found cigarettes, lost/tossed clothes, abandoned bike and people had broken some stalagmites. Wish people were taking better care of these natural beauties. But a great short little hike around.
I would say dont go out of your way to come. Its interesting to see the array of caves and experience the environmental difference inside and out of them, but if youve ever been in a cave before you can totally skip it. I dont think theres any kind of Trailhead or extra hike other than just the six cave entrances but it was pretty small and not extremely interesting. If youre on your way past it might be worth a look. Definitely used by local youth 4 hanging out and having campfires while spray painting LOL!
Something cool to see.
Neat little caves, but some idiots spray painted and littered all over the inside, and you have to bend over to enter or exit the first cave. Still worth visiting!
Fun exporting with the kids! It was a great way to stay cool in the heat
Great place to see some real volcano caves with easy access from the road..
Awesome place to stop and look at
There interesting little caves. Small, cold, and wet. This would be a nice little family outing. Small children would enjoy the experience.
Kinda dinky spray paint all over the caves kinda cool kinda not
Be careful lots of glass, dont wear opened toed shoes or shorts. Cool place, 10 year old kid loved it.
I still have a girlfriend
Super fun caves to explore! There are 4 main caves and varying difficulty for varying interests and skill levels. Fun for the whole fam or a bunch of friends.
Really kool to see, to bad people have to ruin it. Some garbage and writing on the walls. All in all spectacular to see
Kinda scary, kinda lame when you go alone, none the less the energy in this place is bit magical.
Caves were fun, but short. Took about 30min to explore them. Still worth a stop.
Fun to explore with young kids. Bring flashlights... not cell phones, actual flashlights. Check the map before you go looking around too.
Very cool caves. Great place to go on a hot day, nice a cool.
I love hiking in this little park. Also the caves are really cool.
Lots of fun
Pretty cool. Keep walking down the path and theres more caves!
Its crazy to wonder what larger tubes we do not get to access in Central Oregon redmond, even
Natural lava caves that are on federal land by the Redmond airport( Roberts field). Seems like your not even in the city limits.
Small but easily accessible.
Short walk pretty neat caves
Interesting geology right in town!
Kids had a blast
Dont waste your time
Lame, wouldnt waste your time unless you got kids
Fun
Super cool
Nice place
Beautiful
