Ok so lower your expectations and don’t tell the kids what it is until they see it. This will make it more magical. When you tell them a dinosaur park playground, they will form their own expectations that won’t be met. Also don’t go out of your way for this unless it’s in your area or your road trip takes you close. We had to navigate the RV up the twisting and turning roads and while it was tight, it was manageable without issue. The park itself needs some upkeep and the dinosaurs show wear as well as the surround pads they are on. There is only one shaded area so keep that in mind. This was a good break to stretch but nothing to go over board about. The views are great though, but they only look over the city leaving he views to fee wasted. I gave it four instead of three because I imagine funding for the upkeep is an issue and it may be out of people’s control. Also saw a brown praying mantis approaching a bright green one.
This was a much anticipated stop on our family vacation to the Rapid City area this year. The views from the hill are beautiful, overlooking Rapid City, Ellsworth AFB, and more! Must see at sunset! The statues were in need of some fresh paint and several signs were damaged and/or unreadable due to weathering. The gift shop was quaint and budget friendly. The staff was very friendly and kind to our family. Overall, not a bad place to view a SD sunset and stretch the legs for a bit.
Narrow, switchback (but fairly short, thankfully) road up to the small park overlooking Rapid City. Go slow and be cautious! Small paved parking lot and visitor center (check hours of operation; it was closed when we went); just walk across the street and climb stairs to take a looped trail to visit 5 or so large cement dinos. Great view. Park and exhibit could use some repairs/TLC.
The dinosaurs have seen better days but the kids will still have fun. This is not a suitable activity for those who cant climb stairs, also the pavement is uneven so please watch your step. If you dont come for the dinosaurs, come for the view. Also stop in the gift shop. They are very kind and have an assortment of things.
First of all, this is not exactly a paleontological park. It’s a park with dinosaur statues and is targeted to entertain small kids and their parents basically. Nice little location with a fantastic mountain road approach (Skyline Drive) which overlooks the city at multiple locations.Parking is available at the visitor center and then a staircase climb to reach the park. You get a nice 360 degrees view of the entire Rapid City.Cost : FreeParking: Limited parking at visitor center.
It was alright. Kids had fun running up the stairs and looking at Dino’s. Would recommend going on a cloudy day with nice breeze as it’s a lot of uphill walking/climbing. We had more fun in the gift shop looking at stuff and eating ice cream. Dino’s could use some repairs and it could use a cleaning.
Dino Park was the most AMAZING thing we did in South Dakota! It beats Mount Rushmore and all the other classic attractions. Dink Park is where you really need to go. Staff was OUTSTANDING..and the Dino’s were fun to see, read about and climb!!! Dino Park was absolutely AMAZING. Would 100% recommend.
Its alright if youre right by it I guess. The coolest thing about it was how old it is. Kids enjoyed it ok(4 and 6). Good for 20-30 mins and a few pics. Nothing Id drive out of my way for though.
There are quite a few stairs to the top. It is not very easy for a stroller but the view from the top is awesome. The dinosaurs are huge and fun to play on and take pictures with.
Awesome city park with sweeping views of the city. Perfect place to stretch your legs and then chill out and read a book. Oh yeah, and dinosaurs.
Even if you dont like dinosaurs you must take the trip just for the wonderful view of the city.
Possibly the best place we visited while in Rapid city. Dinosaurs Dinosaurs Dinosaurs!!!Built in 1936 super cute and free!
First off the view of the city from here is awesome. The road to get there is very windy be careful. The dinosaur displays are neat, but well worn, and mainly for kids under 10, not wheelchair friendly that I saw, and you have to cross a busy road from the gift shop, parking area to the hill the displays are on. When in Rapid City give it a go if you have the time kid or not, just for the view.
Kids liked it. Could use some updating. Fun little stop as long as your expectations arent too high.
Fun place for a quick visit. The dinosaurs are huge and not in the best of shape. A number of stairs to get to them - not wheelchair accessible. Wouldnt pay more than a buck or two to go - glad its free.
Worth stopping for a small place that isnt open all year round.
Kids loved climbing the dinosaurs. Scenic area with a view.
This isnt a big attraction but very neat to see. It didnt take long to walk and climb all the stairs to see the dinosaurs. Two were by the gift shop. The history behind them is intriguing. There was no wow factor but enjoyable.
Cute little stop. Free, which makes it even better. Its amazing these dinosaurs are still around after so long (1930s). Well maintained. Gift shop folks were super nice and helpful, and there were great prices on unique merchandise. Great hotdog and drink combo price.
The dinosaurs were in a state of needing a repainting, but this free park was a hit with our family. The drive to it was very scenic, and it was neat seeing the dinosaur up close after seeing it perched atop the hill from the interstate. There is a welcome center and gift shop, and if you want to save money, they offer the same t shirts for much lower cost than the places you can buy them in Deadwood, or other tourist spots. The access to the dinosaurs is up a fairly steep embankment via stairs, across the road from the parking lot, but the view is worth it.
We love this place. Its free. Theres a interesting gift store across from it. The drive there is scenic.
Decent view at the top. The hype seems to be bigger than the actual attraction. Kids liked to see the dinosaurs, but there are only a handful of them so dont plan on spending much more than 30 min here.
Kitchy is pretty accurate. I love it for the piece of history that it is. Not anything for the kids to do besides look at 6 old cement Dinos. Quite a few stairs for anyone that matters to.
They dont tell you there are lots of stairs you have to go up to it . Handy cap people can d ok that clim so sad . I had to set in the car while the family went up to see it . Wish you could driv we there.Narrow road too we were in a motor home do not recommend it in a motor home
Cool historical area! Great views of the city!
Such a cool spot! My seven year old loved climbing on and around all the dinosaurs. Its totally free to go, and the store had some really great stuff that we havent found anywhere else.It was such a hit that we ended up going twice, first at the start of our trip and then again almost a week later when we were leaving. If youre in the area and have a dinosaur fan, its really worth the trip. The dinos are around 90 years old if memory serves and some could use a little more paint, but it doesnt detract from the experience.
It was nice for what it is. It has a spectacular view over the city and its free. I uploaded a couple pictures of the view. My kids liked climbing on the dinos for us to make their pictures. The thing that I really liked was the gift shop. It has fossils, rocks, and other trinkets. It was pretty reasonably priced for a gift shop in a tourist town. The shop also offered food items and quite the view. We didnt eat or drink anything there so I cant comment on the concessions. The gift shop is really the only reason Id go back.
Stop if youre in the area but its not worth a drive. Its a really old (and free!) attraction which might entertain the kids for a moment, but there isnt anything too exciting to see there.
If your coming here for the dinosaur sculptures you will be let down BUT if you come for the views you’ll really enjoy the park. The views of the city are great and park is maintained well. We even had some close encounters with wild life! We got here just before sunset and it worked out perfectly for pictures. It wasn’t busy, only two other families with kids. Some stairs to climb but won’t put you as breathless as the view.
Was fun and opens from 5am-10pm! Please great for a morning stroll with my friend and the kids. There are nice trails around the area too to look at nature. Great atmosphere and the staff at the shop were super sweet and kind this morning. Thanks.
If your goal is to see some dinosaurs I wouldn’t recommend going here. Where I would recommend going is to the Children’s Museum in Brookings, that one exhibit in Wall, or back a few thousand trillion years—if you’re into that sort of thing. If you’re looking for a beautiful place to watch a sunset though, then the Dinosaur Park is where it’s at. Also, question: whose idea was it to build fake dinosaurs on top of a hill that would have looked better simply as a hill?
Nice roadside stop! The historical dinosaurs are very endearing & the shop has a lot of cute trinkets, souvenirs, & ice cream! You also get a really great overlook view of Rapid City as the park is very high up.
Free to visit, but not too much to see. The kids had fun, which is the important part. They have a nice gift shop and a little hot dog and ice cream restaurant.
Fun little side stop.. excellent gift shop!! Black Hills, Mt Rushmore and Dinosaur park tshirts at the best prices weve seen! And of course, plenty of photo ops with giant dinosaurs and a beautiful view of Rapid City ♡
You can see the dinosaurs on top of the mountain from the roads below. Its worth the drive to see them up close, in person. Got some cool souvenirs for cheap in the gift shop and the biggest scoop of birthday cake ice cream Ive ever seen for pretty cheap.
Fun place. Very cool to see how big Dinosaurs are. Nice staff!
Our 4 yr old daughter and 5 yr old son loved it. Gorgeous panoramic views from the top as well ...bonus!!
A lot of fun! Very retro and a great gift shop
An excellent view of Rapid City from here. Simple, yet families are still enjoying it together. It just goes to show that kids of all ages just love a giant dino that you can climb on. Definitely recommend.
If you are looking to have a great view of rapid city. This is the place. The dinosaurs were ok. They added a beautiful touch to the view.
Good way to get some energy out of the kids, but the dinosaurs have seen better days.
What a great place to visit! The drive up was very scenic, and parking and the dinosaur park is free. There’s five large dinosaurs at the top of a large hill that over looks the city and it was a lot of fun for the kids and adults. The gift shop was nice and also had snacks. Definitely worth a stop!
Little kids love this place. Its free! Walking up the steps to the top is very good exercise.
Cool spot to take children and take pictures. Its getting a little bit dilapidated, and could use fresh paint and cement in a few places within the park
Needs some TLC to spruce it up, but great vantage point to see the city.
Beautiful place, fun for the kids its free and thats always good, only 5 or 6 dinosaurs total. Couldnt get pics with 1 of them because there was an extremely rude group that kept insisting my little boys werent good enough to get on the Dinos Everytime we went to leave to go to another they all ran and pushed their way. Typical people... The gift shop however was amazing! So much stuff, not overly priced either!
The drive up to this place is fun.You can see entire city from the top. There is 85 stairs to get to top from parking lot.A couple of dinosaurs were out of order.
Such a cute and fun place. An unexpected treasure right in town. Loved the gift shop and the food was a nice surprise!
If you are looking for an amazing view of Rapid City day or night, come here. The road can appear treacherous, but drive slow and easy and youll make it!
Pretty decent stop for kids on the way to/from eeptile gardens. Great view!
Ive been going here since the sixties when I was a little kid. Always a fun time! Its too bad they decided they needed to sell land and put homes everywhere around it now. I wish theyd kept it all is a park and hiking trails but I guess theres no money in that.
This is a must see. Magnificent skies, a beautifully landscaped Dinosaur park, and an affordable gift shop.
Quick little walk around several old dinosaur models. Good view of the city.
Its a wonderful public park with great view of both sides of the city. The dinosaur statutes are delightfully corny as well. There is a bit of a stair climb from the parking lot to the park, and watch your step because the stairs are old. After the park, check out the nearby hikes, visitors center and Skyline Drive.
Cute, granddaughter loved it. ! Kind prices in gift shop!
Fun site! Perched high up with a bunch of stairs. Little kids can climb them with the help of those who are older. Picnic tables at the top with nice views by the dinosaurs. Parking lot with a gift store and snack shop across the street.
Visitor center was closed.Lots of stairs but the view was so worth it. Lots of cute photos!!
Has some dinosaur statues, if you are looking for bones search elsewhere, great stop to let the kids and dog out and stretch their legs.
Awesome views. Nostalgic spot. Will continue to stop here everytime Im near.
Was fun for the kids. Kind of what you would expect for cement dinosaurs made in the 30s? Lots of stairs and a nice overview of the surrounding city.
Cute hike to top where many dinosaurs are placed. Free option in this city. Gift shop is cute and clean. Fun activity to pass time with kids.
Great place!! It was closed for winter but you can still get in. Check schedule before making the trip. It was built in 1936. Very well kept with concrete dinosaurs. Lots of fun.
Nice overview of the city from the top of the hill. Not much to do here, though. Its just a hill with dinosaur statues. Stop by for the scenic drive and view from the top.
Nice small free park if you like dinosaur s
Funny lil park. But worth the view.
Always love checking out the dinosaurs here. They never change but every year we stop and see the.. the views from the top are beautiful. There is a great shop with food, restrooms and plenty of parking. Cool place for people of all ages (if you can climb stairs good).
Interesting place. It has nice view
Neat & fun place to take the kids. Plus you get great views of the city up here
Sculptures r not a big deal but the place and views worth a visit.
Actual size dinos and a short hike up to the top, gives you an awesome panorama of Rapid City and the surrounding area. Well worth the drive and short hike.
Loved this place. We stopped on the way home from the Black Hills because my 5 yr old. He loved to be up close and be able to get on some of them for pics. Its a climb to get to the top but the view is so awesome. Then we went down to the gift shop and they have very cheap hot dogs and root beer floats. Made for a great stop for a quick cheap lunch also. I would recommend atleast for the view bit all around friendly staff and atmosphere.
From Dinosaur Park you get a gorgeous view of Rapid City, SD.
My kids liked it. The view from up top is A+. But for a climb to see 4 sculptures not worth it in my opinion. But nonetheless its a national treasure (the sign said so). Glad I did it, otherwise I would have it in my mind all trip long how it mustve been.
Went in February when it was super snowy and zero degrees out. Was a beautiful place to watch the sunset with some dinosaur friends. Liked it so much, I woke up early the next morning to watch the sunrise. A very relaxing place with some fun sculptures.
A very iconic place to visit in Rapid City. It’s fun for all ages to follow the paths up the hillside and see all the dinosaurs. On top of the dinosaurs this place provides a great view of the city from multiple angles. Even though there’s only six or so dinosaurs to see, it’s well worth the drive.
Very cute place to take the family free to check out the dinosaurs and the gift shop has great prices on everything half of what the prices are at the gift shop up at Mount Rushmore
Dinosaurs are great! Fun to climb. Great scenery. Giftshop isnt worth the stop. Lame, overpriced and unfriendly.
Free to view dinosaurs.gift shop and snack bar. Nice view.
A quick and fantastic stop. The 8 and unders will be amazed. Huge amount of stairs so be prepared
Historic spot, fun for children, awesome views and enough steps to raise your pulse.
It was okay because there was not much there and not much shade either but the food was good
Basically 5 dinosaurs made out of concrete on a steep hill. Its cool, could probably use updates. Not the best candidate for people unable to do stairs. Only the stegosaurus was fully scalable, and a couple near the gift shop. The dinosaurs of course werent modern, trex dragging its tail etc.. The gift shop seemed like it had a good selection if you needed a souvenir. Views going up skyline drive are great.
My son loves to come here. For an attraction that is almost 100 years old, its still a good time.
Great place to take photos...you can see for 100 miles on a clear day. Love the clouds in South Dakota. Remember my child hood.
I thought it was great...my wife was disappointed. It’s 5 sculpted dinosaurs with a great vista of the city below. Not handicap accessible. Lots of stairs to climb, so be warned.
This is a simple park with old dinosaur statues that was created, I believe during great depression. There are a lot of stairs. It gives kids an area to burn out some energy. Theres a great view of Rapid City at the top. My kids enjoy visiting just like I did as a kid.
I personally didn’t like the park nor did my kids but I really can’t complain for it being free, the gift shop I thought was well priced on food.
More for kids on hilltop. Great panoramic view of Rapid City.
Fun free attraction in Rapid City. Good climbing (lots of stairs) and sightseeing for kids. Cool that its so old and on historic registry.
This place can be visited only once. There is nothing special, but a beautiful view from the mountains to the city.
Good time and its free. A lot of steps
