We rented the Reunion Lodge for our wedding and it was really lovely. We had a great view of the lake and the fireplace was such a nice feature. It was a little too chilly to use the outdoor patio but the lights had great ambience. The whole lodge was clean and well-supplied. The kitchen was fully stocked, the seating areas were cozy and comfortable, and the bedrooms were spacious and clean. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and the whole experience was great. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a venue for any occasion.

Canyon Lake Resort is in a beautiful location! We stayed in one of their Motel rooms with a view of the lake and was lovely! The room has updated carpet, bathroom floor and sink. The rest is not updated but is still clean and well maintained. Heating and Air is controlled by unit and worked very well.

Hidden gem! Loved our room with patio facing pond. Nice folks at front desk. Very relaxing property. Good price and value on Expedia. Clean enough!

Weve been coming to Canyon Lake during the rally for several years now. The owner greets us daily asking if everything is alright. The staff are very friendly and courteous and helpful. Georgous setting. We will continue to come back!

“Resort” seems to be a loosely defined term for a number of properties in the area, and this property falls within those loosely defined terms. Our two bedroom cabin was simple, dated, and rather tired looking; however, it was clean, and it effectively met all of our need with two exceptions — the hot water was more in the luke warm temperature range, and there wasn’t a full length mirror in the entire cabin. . He staff was friendly and helpful, but the office is not open 24 hours. Emergency numbers are posted, and it would seem that the staff readily responds to such emergencies because an issue with water quality emerged (which seemed to be an issue with the city water rather than something that was the fault of the resort) and it must have been reported by another guest because we awakened to a gallon of drinking water that was left at our door. Use of paddle boats is complimentary for guests. I hope to return to the area within the next five years, and there is about a 50% chance that I will stay at this place again. It is centrally located to most of the South Dakota attractions I wish to revisit, and the spaciousness of the cabins lends itself well for family accommodations.

Cabin wasnt terrible, but only 1 AC in the living room didnt make it cooler in the bedrooms for sure.

At the beginning of a long road trip the one thing you dont want are surprises, but this place was a GOOD surprise. A hidden gem in the middle of the City for a reasonable price. Yes a bit rustic, but wow what a view each morning to see Canyon Lake, and the sunsets were breathtaking. Hardly any other people staying there which made it very quiet. Front desk check in was quick and they were very nice. Bathroom a bit tiny. Very small kitchenette, but we werent there to cook.

The cabin I stayed in was very cozy, clean, and comfortable. It had all of the amenities I needed. The staff was very friendly and kind and helped me whenever I needed it. The decor was a bit dated but I loved it, it felt very nostalgic to me. I Would definitely stay here again.

I hate to use the tired adage Hidden Gem, but this place certainly was a diamond. Yes it is an older property, but charming and warm. Our view of the lake was wonderful and enjoyable. Just wish we spent another week here instead of 2 nights. Great bargain. Management responsive to anything we asked.

We loved the resort and are so happy to have found it. So quiet and peaceful and beautiful. Yes the cabins are a bit dated but the place was very clean, service was very nice, breakfast excellent. I will stay at Canyon Lake Resort every time Im in Rapid City from now on.

We hosted our family reunion at the Canyon Lake Resort and their Reunion Lodge was amazing. Private rooms in a grand lodge setting. Beautiful view of the lake and the sunsets! It is a great location for all things to do in the Black Hills. We cant wait to come back!

The cabin was perfect for 2 people, we had 3 and was still good. It was a cute little cabin!!

We rented the main floor of the lodge for a wedding and it worked out great. Handicap access is very good and there is lots of room. The patio is really nice if the weather is good. Highly recommend for a big group outing.

We stayed in one of the motel rooms. Although the building is quite old and the decor is circa 1970s, the room was very clean and comfortable. Just a few minutes from town, but far enough to be quiet and surrounded by nature. The staff was over the top helpful and friendly. Would definitely stay again.

We had a pleasant sleep here before our flight out of rapid city. The window unit air-conditioning was a bit loud. Pleasant staff. Thank you!

Nice well kept resort. Relaxing atmosphere being right next to the lake. It’s close to everything yet you feel you are out in nature. I would recommend it to anyone. I would have given it a perfect if they had a 24/7 office hours. Office close at 5 P.M.

I neglected to book a disability accessible room and they were so sweet to move us and provide a walker. Very kind and easy to work with. The lake is lovely!

Great location for Black Hills experience. We enjoyed our large family reunion by biking, fishing and visiting local attractions. The family owners could not have been more accommodating. Very family friendly.

This review is only for the Motel. We stayed one night and wont be going back. The room had fairly new carpet and paint. Other than that it was in bad shape. Bathroom looked moldy, I think yikes! covers the kitchenette and everything else was very tired, worn. Examples include curtains looked like they were about to fall off the wall, base boards and bathroom doors had pieces missing, sheets were thread bare and had some holes. Things where and at best marginally clean. Dust in lots of places, a shiny substance we assumed (but were never sure) was dusting spray on half of the dresser, and did I mention the kitchen and bathroom? I think there were 2 outlets, s we had to unplug things to charge our electronics. Needless to say we were disappointed.

Good place

Canyon Lake Resort is in a very nice location. Lots of trees very beautiful scenery right there on the lake. The one thing I had an issue with or is that they do not have anybody watching the paddle boats there for my wife and I were not able to use the paddle boat that we rent it cuz somebody had taken it. However the staff was phenomenal by which we were offered our money back and a free rental the next time we are there.

Dated, however good value for price paid. I personally would not stay hear again.

Motel rooms were clean but noisy due to the water heater 6 from the bed. The reunion lodge was great. Spacious and comfortable. Kids wanted to spend all day on the paddle boats.

Easy to find location, spacious, and well kept. I had a good time visiting for a birthday party. Plenty of parking available for all of the guests. Only complaint, the bathroom was not clearly marked, had a hard time finding it.

Had our family reunion in third lodge. Great place to have it. Far enough into the Black hills that we saw deer eating the grass every night, but close enough to downtown Rapid City that you could get there in 10 minutes.

Location is wonderful and the view is gorgeous of the lake. Rooms are clean enough but nothing fancy (in the motel). Kitchenette is a stretch since its an d fridge and hot plate in an old closet and outlets are loose so plugs dont stay in. All in all it was a decent place to stay since we were out most of the day anyway.

Sure Canyon Lake Resort is dated, but it has a charm that chain hotels dont. We stayed in the motel section of the resort. It was equipped with a two burner stovetop, refrigerator, sink, microwave and tv. The refrigerator was set too high and froze our drinks. Probably our fault for not checking. We did not have occasion to use the stovetop and adjoining sink. The room looked out on Canyon Lake which was better than a parking lot. There were grills, picnic tables and paddle boats for guests use. I have only two complaints; there was no room safe, and the wi-fi rarely worked.

Positive:Quiet, older cabins, RV sites and hotel rooms located near a beautiful park. The cabins have kitchenette and a full size fridge. Friendly staff.The negative: the shower was made for midgets! I am 5 7 and had to lean over to get wet.I tried two different rooms before I found a room that the a/c worked. The beds were hard and one of the bedrooms smelled like mold. The attendant was very friendly and moved us to a cabin with a wall a/c unit so we could be comfortable.

We had a lake front room with a small kitchen. It is a really neat setting. You can watch the ducks and geese along the lake shore. People out boating and fishing. Peaceful. Right at the edge of town so handy to going out to dinner. Very pleasant, positive staff.

First room was Lot smaller than some images online. A little outdated. Facet was YUCK. Had to clean it out to keep it from spraying all over. Motel only has 1 Room Option fyi. Ended up switching rooms to add on 2 more days. Lake facing room was much nicer. Newer cleaner facet too. The view at this motel is the best in town . Paddle boating was fun. Management was nice and helpful.

Canyon Lake Resort is located a few minutes from downtown Rapid City. It sits next to Canyon Lake and is a quiet, peaceful location. The 2 bedroom cabin was clean and the kitchen was stocked with everything to enjoy a meal. Staff was great and was able to answer any Great questions we had about the area.It was a great place to stay.

Comfortable room on the lake.

The staff was quite lovely and I think I fell in love with one of them but I dont know well see how long that lasts. Also it is pretty

This is a great place to spend your vacation. We spent four days three nights. We plane to return next year.

A no-frills resort, but one with affordable prices and great views, right next to a beautiful park with fishing and canoeing right next door. The internet is slow, the accommodations are bare-bones, and the place is on the older side, but those are my only complaints. Definitely will come back next time Im in the area.

When we go to wine tastings next door we stay here. Our view today is so pretty. Great value.

Very beautiful area. Great location. Nice because youre on the end of town but still close enough to town. Reasonably priced. It was quiet. Peaceful. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Walking trail. Free paddle boat rides. Small pool (they supply towels) w/ comfortable seating. You can relax w/ a drink/snacks while the kids swim. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin. Like a small apartment. Large fridge, small gas stove, microwave, dishes, dish soap, towels, fully furnished. Now...I hate to sound negative or picky, but I do have to say the inside of the cabin is very dated. Carpet is stained. Furniture seemed old. It was clean but as I looked closer I found crumbs along the wall, a band-aid in our bedroom on the floor that wasnt ours, and a small bar of used soap left in the shower from previous people. Gross! There is an air conditioning unit in the living room so the bedrooms can get just a lil stuffy. You have your own propane grill (we didnt take advantage of this unfortunately), your own picnic table, 2 chairs (our neighbors brought their own & looked comfy/relaxed). It really is a nice resort aside from my complaints about the cleanliness and it being very dated. We really werent in the cabin much as we were out site seeing & taking advantage of all the cool things to do in Rapid City & surrounding areas.

Ive only visited the common areas, outdoors, but I think its a great location for someone visiting the black hills. Close enough to Rapid City to be convenient to food and night life, but just far enough away to offer scenic views and a country feel.

We went to Canyon Lakes paddle boats. I went all the time as a kid, but now, back in town, the boats are the exact same ones I rode back then and they are falling apart. The chains to dock the boats are all rusted and most are missing. It would be nice to see some new paddle boats and a little work done to the dock. Its a great family activity that shouldnt be forgotten as the boats fall apart.

Great location !! Beautiful and quiet .Recommend for people who want to be centrally located, so they can see everything the Black Hills have. I know offer.

A fine place. Cattail lodge was a pretty good place for a grad party. It had a nice interior, a game room, and a good view of the lake

I just met a friend of mine at Canyon Lake Resort. The cabins seemed real nice.

I reserved a cabin 6 months in advance and when I arrived, I was shown to a sub par motel room (for the same price) which I was not happy about. When I mentioned a complaint to Orbitz, I was directed to the cabin I had reserved.Having been in the rental game, I was appalled by the lack of simple repair and maintenance along with cleanliness.I felt I was being taken advantage of due to the lack of room availability during the Rally.On a good note, the people were very nice and friendly.

Location is beautiful and the staff are all very friendly and guest oriented.

We arrived late and the key they gave us was for someone elses room. Very awkward moment! So we called for help and it took over 30 minutes of waiting for someone to come and get us the right key.

Rooms are clean, but outdated in a way that deserved one star knocked off. Sheets were uncomfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The property and surrounding area was gorgeous. Plenty of room for our large family gathering.

We had a wonderful stay here. If you are looking for ultra modern or brand spankin new facilities look elsewhere though. The facility is clean, but very dated. The beds are supposed to be queen sized, but both seemed like they were full sized in my opinion (Im used to a king sized bed though). The staff and the surroundings made this place a five star though. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We visited first of October and the surrounding trees around the lake were starting to change color with the season. It was breathtaking at sunset. My husband and daughter enjoyed the free paddleboats they have, and we had deer visit right outside our motel room each night. It was a super get away from the big city we were used to, and that made this a winner in my book.

Arrived just after 9pm, the office was closed and the key in an envelope taped to the door for anyone to take. I was one of two envelopes on the door. The room was clean but a little run down, due to worn carpeting and an uncomfortable mattress. The lake is pretty though!

Went to rent the paddle boats. The service was quick and friendly and the boats are a good time.

Nice setting, it would be a great place for a family reunion or other gathering.

Went to canyon lake lodge for a wedding. Gorgeous location. No interaction with staff or food as it was a privately catered event.

This resort is awesome. Went to visit with some friends that I have known for a while and everything was fun and smooth.

Small cabins are not very comfortable to stay in. Furniture is very uncomfortable. Heater was extremely noisy. Tube tv. All around very outdated for the price

Cabins were in good condition. There were a variety of cabins to choose from. Repair service was fast.

This is an oldear place but for the price you cant go wrong. The rooms are out of date and needs updating. But the view is great of the lake. It is close to stores and about 10 minute to downtown Rapid City. I stayed in the smaller 2 bedroom cabin. It was more like a small two room college dorm. But my family and i just needed a place to sleep and cook as we went site seeing to Deadwood, Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and other places around the area. One thing they absolutly need to update is the sheets they use for the beds. It felt like a burlap sack. But the internet was good, had a good running trail around the lake. And the kitchen had almost everything you need to cook food for the family.

The resort has a great location. Its in town, but yet you feel like you are in a rural setting.
