Nice descent from the parking lot, through boulders on rough hewn steps to the boulder strewn River. If you dont mind graffiti and a very little poison oak. Nice hike up the far bank and hillside albeit somewhat of a bush whack. Still, the trail is easy enough to follow. Nice view of the canyon up there.
This is normally an OK hike. The downside is theres a lot of trash along the trail and graffiti. The upside is theres a nice river at the bottom of the canyon. During the summer months it dries out though, and right now theres only little puddles of water. Be careful, as there are these really gross water beetles that BITE!
Peaceful. Theres a sign for wild animals.
It would be beautiful if it wasnt for the nasty graffiti broken glass and garbage everywhere
Very scenic, surprisingly rugged and beautiful hiking area, close to the city but feels far away, except for the graffiti and broken window glass ...
Great hike up to the peak where there are two chairs cemented into the rock. We did the south west trail.
Originally, i gave this trail 2 stars in 2017. But the trail over the last year has once again extended up to the ridge. This is fast becoming my favorite trail. Ive picked up glass at the entrance a few times, but that has a ways to go to be safe. Now, if you go up over the ridge, you get beautiful vistas, and about 5 miles of roundtrip, rugged hiking. Still, only the one trail, and the graffiti on many, many rocks is sad. This used to be a great hike, a few years ago, but very hot, so I came early, the gate remains locked, the trailhead is full of broken glass right at the entrance on the far side of the parking lot, and only one trail seems to be in use, so 1 1/2 miles roundtrip. There used to be a trail up to the top, but it must be overgrown now. I suggest South Clevenger Canyon trail, about 1/4 mile away, 2 nice paths, great exercise, one to the top of the hill, one that splits off to the east, and goes to a great lookout about 3 (?) miles out.
Great hike!! Watch for snakes, we saw a little rattler. Beautiful views.
Quiet, low traffic trailhead of moderate difficulty outside San Diego near Ramona.
Overgrown, unmaintained, dirty and lots of graffiti..
