I love this park! It is very pretty and a great way to escape the city and enjoy the nature. Its also very big, I still havent navigated the whole place. My favorite thing to do is come here for picnics, there are plenty of good grassy areas to do so. Check it out!

Great park. Lots of open fields, they had ones specific for dogs, but can take em on any really. Beautiful sunflower gsrden. Amazing view of the Raleigh skyline, beautiful in the morning. Lots of dog waste bins. A few Porta John restrooms. Overall great park. Lots of walking ability. Take your dog!

I gave a 4 star to Dorothea Dix Park ONLY because of my possible confusion of the location. Once there, I attended a group relax meeting, and it is a large large green space to run, fly kites, or a spaceship toy and a father and daughter did that day!MY EXPERIENCE---There are maybe two entrances to the park. I probably did some wrong turns because there are other green spaces, and possible picnic areas around in like city blocks, and saw some old buildings like empty warehouses and looked like 1970s medical buildings. Empty! Or looked like empty. Apparently the Health Department used a building there. So. They do have signs and street names, but you might want to ask for exact location from your group. I went Sunday about 5 pm. There were still people playing and cycling and skateboarding... But it there had been no people around. I would have panicked. But cool place to go and explore, early in the day!!!

Lovely park. I like to come with my roommate and play frisbee/pass around a volleyball. We tried to find the comet NEOWISE here one evening and couldn’t seem to find it, not sure if it was too close to the treeline or clouds were blocking it.

My first time in Dorothea Dix park was beautiful. We had a quiet Sunday afternoon picnic with friends. There was tons of space so you could be as involved or isolated from others as you chose.

Thank you for taking the time to grow such beautiful sunflowers for the public to enjoy! Dorothea dix has done it again. They took the time to make an amazing sunflower garden for the public to come and view, take pictures at and enjoy. I think it’s amazing that this park continuously each year grows the sunflowers for the public. In addition, when reading one of the signs it notes that the location used to be a landfill and the sunflowers help to produce a healthier and environmentally friendly atmosphere - which is added bonus points!

This is the most overrated spot in Raleigh. Its a large grass field with a closed insane asylum on the grounds. Not sure what the hype is about when there are plenty of other beautiful outdoor places in the city. The skyline views also no longer exist due to obstruction from the trees.

This park has EVERYTHING. Graveyards, big fields, disc golf, departments of health and human services, porta-potties, sunflowers sometimes, derelict homes and buildings, a haunted old mental institute (just the foundation), trees, activities, bike paths, dirt bike paths, and more! Go out here.

“Dix” is a staple in our days and weeks. About a 2-3 mile walk to get around the park. Has an extra large field which is perfect for small or bigger community gatherings. Some people fly remote planes and there are city bikes you can rent per hour in the middle of the park. Also I’d you have need of getting on NCSU’s campus you can use the park and ride lot there.

Been going there regularly for years. Now that it is a destination, I go there even more. The city acquired a gem when it got this property. If you havent been there, stop reading this and go already. It has scenery, secluded spots, open fields, and lots of places to be romantic...or not. Whatever you want to do, there is a reasonable facsimile of it here. Although it is primarily just land, I suppose it will have a decent playground at some point, and other park like facilities installed in the future. I am excited to see how it metamorphoses over the years.

We attended the Fall Festival this past Saturday 10/19/19. Not only was the weather fantastic but the event was well planned and setup. There were tons of beer vendors, bands, a dance stage, and food trucks as far as the eye could see. I would have liked to have seen more vendors for crafts/art. It is a great venue for these events.

The best place to have downtown views in Raleigh. This park is huge in area and ample of parking spaces available. Since 2018, they even started hosting sunflower garden in summer months. It is too beautiful. They have wide variety of trees/plants/flowers in park.It is best place for pets too. Pets enjoy this place. This place is usually crowded in summer. People bring there picnic stuff here. you can even see some artists enjoying drawings/paintings around. It is happening place and still lot closer to busy city. You can even get lime bikes here and enjoy rides. There is no food place nearby so bring water and quick food with you if you are going to be there for a while.

I was employed as a social worker at Dorothea Dix Hospital from 1978-1985. During that period of time the location for the current Dix Park Soccer field was utilized as a waste management sight. I wonder if the parents of the children who play on that field are aware of the toxic exposure.
