I have been to lots of art museums but this museum is one of the nicest and most beautiful art museums I’ve ever been to. AND IT WAS FREE INCLUDING PARKING. How can you complain? Arts inside of this museum were wonderful and this museum exhibits a wide variety of genres. Not only inside but also outside, this museum exhibits variety of sculptures to see. Loved atmosphere. I will come back and walk around outside of the museum with my dog.
Lovely Experience so much to do and see. So fun and the park outside is stunning as well. The museum has 2 buildings. The white building has the permanent collections and the most stuff and the brick building has special exhibits. I loved the African Art featured here it was stunning and the staff is very knowledgeable. They take social distancing very seriously so it is super safe.
A gem in Raleigh. Perfect for everything from more serious fare like browsing the museum proper (with diverse and frequently rotating exhibits) or seeing an evening performance at the amphitheater (the Snarky Puppy show in Fall 2019 was great!), to casual anytime fun like going for a stroll or having a picnic in their sprawling Discovery Garden (acres of rolling hills with trails, peppered with sculptures and other installations, some of which are fully interactive -- touchable or climbable).A frequent destination for my significant other and I! (We live about a half hours drive away in Durham)
A lot of fun and educational. We only viewed the outside sculptures and exhibits. The weather was beautiful and there was much to see.
Exceptional and free! They have adapted the COVID restrictions really well. We wore masks and brought our little one along and had a great time.
Super beautiful place, great artwork inside with educational information, lots of walking trails, & great areas for pictures. Inside showed so many beautiful peices from around the world & had information to describe the peices as well. Outside is gorgeous! It was nice to just get out in nature and breathe. I would definitely come here again!! There are bicycles for rent, I would definitely take advantage of that if you are not into walking long distance or even bring your own bike. Highly recommend coming here if youre into a good cultural experience (inside) & nature walks.
The museum was wonderful the gold exhibit was exceptional I appreciated the interactive computer screens the the ability to try on rings. You had either parking plenty of space accessible wheelchairs the exhibit was well laid out the only thing that maybe could have been better was an area where the children can run around more or climb and play as they did in the space that was available but more of it would have been great. Encourage everyone to see the gold exhibit
The trails are well kept, paved, and easy to walk. Plenty of outdoor space to stay socially distant. The sculptures are impressive and fun to look at.
Only walked the grounds as the galley is currently closed. It was fun. Nice variety of sculptures to see.
I recommend this experience for anyone, the only down fall is one of the guards advised me that I was not allowed to have a selfish stick or any tripod attached to my phone. I loved the outside exhibits.
First time visiting the park. Surprised how crowded it was, but understandable given how nice the park is and the weather conditions that day. Great for dates or family outings. We were there for family pictures.
My kids liked it, it was very educational and way bigger than I expected. Definitely a place to stop and check out, I am glad I could finally visit it!!
I am ecstatic they have opened the museum. They have rearranged the pieces in the galleries so it was almost an adventure seeing what pieces have been paired with others. There were virtually no visitors inside so it was calm and peaceful. They have some new pieces that were neat, as well. It was a nice way to spend a few hours.
Outstanding collection and display of indoor and outdoor artistic collections. Truly a treasure for the RDU community. Please use this resource frequently.
Love doing couples and engagement photography here! My couple from Moira Grace Photography love the diverse scenery they can access from the park, the outdoor art, to the reflective building all of it is gorgeous!
I always love walking through this beautiful maze of sculpture. The renovation here at the art museum is fabulous! Its a wonderful place to go to relax have a picnic or just clear your mind!
Very wonderful museum exhibiting a wide variety of art genres. Also has a great garden with large art pieces spread out so you have to walk to see them all. 10/10
BEAUTIFUL sunflower and flower garden right now! So much space to walk around and take in the plethora of different plants and amazing grounds. Their walking trails are amazing, but the flowers are something else right now :)
Such a pretty museum! I love coming here with my friends. I havent explored the outside yet, but that looks cool too. I definitely recommend checking this place out.
Great indoor and outdoor exhibits. The special exhibits are always worth seeing. Outdoor park is beautiful and has several different art pieces throughout the year.
A wonderful place for the entire family no matter their age. This place does it right. Visit the trails, green grassy leisure areas or the museum. There is something for everyone here!
Carefully curated pieces of art. Overwhelming to be surrounded by such special history.
I love going here whether it is to walk, run, or just relax and sit out on the grass. It is a huge space and has great scenery too. I have never been to the restaurant but I would love to try it some day.
Really nice outdoor park with interesting art. good place to walk or picnic
The facility has beautiful architecture, is well maintained and organized (with COVID protocols). No food or drinks inside the museum. Wonderful outside nature trail with art along the way. Rich African American cultural art and relics with fascinating information. Fun visual pieces; like digital, dynamic, and/or interactive instillations. Decent for kids, if under great adult supervision.
Stunning art museum that encourages a stroll outdoors yet also has rare and historical treasures inside. Id love to come back to check out the rooms we missed.
Huge campus, great art. Rent the citrix bikes and ride all over!
NCMA, especially the Museum Park, is gorgeous, absolute stunning. The perfect blend of wild and sculpted nature, it brings together art with natural beauty. Great for romantic picnics, hiking, running and of course, the art. Plus, they have movie and concert nights on Friday and Saturday nights in summer. Absolutely worth exploring this wondrous place, and theres always something new to do.
Impressive exhibits and beautiful museum. Friendly to families and discerning art lovers. Makes art accessible to everyone. Ive been twice- once for a special ticketed exhibit and once for the free exhibits. Both times I was impressed (my favorite museums are part of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC). They have well curated exhibits. I hope to return to explore the extensive grounds.
My wife and I have taken our grandchildren here numerous times, not only are they loving the art, but they also love the outdoor sculptures. My daughter in law had family photos done outside the museum, excellent grounds for photographing.
Great collection and organization of materials!! There is a large variety of pieces from different centuries, art forms, and themes. The staff is awesome!!
Beautiful artwork, many different styles and histories. Entertaining even if you dont enjoy art. Highly recommended if you need a good way to kill several hours
Thoroughly enjoyed my visit and cant wait to go again. Excellent mix of contemporary and classical pieces. Each part of the exhibit is very unique and admission was free! We spent 3 hours easily and there was still more sculptures and portraiture to see. We are already planning our next visit. I would highly recommend it.
Never even got inside. Beautiful grounds and paths with installed art, lots of space for distanced gatherings and picnics, outdoor performance venue, good public restrooms. Looking forward to another visit.
I wont claim to be an art hog and I might not know the intricacies that staunch art lovers look out for when they go to an art museum. But I must say - no matter how much of art you do or do not know, the NC museum has enough to keep you engaged and appreciative of beautiful art spanning several centuries, decades and recent years too. And its totally FREE!!!!!
This spot is great idea whether or not you visit the inside or outside. I think I have honestly been to the outside park more than I have been inside (which is a lot)Great for kids too. They do everything. Very cool special exhibits, annual events, outside concerts, shows and movies. Its a good idea for almost any occasion. And they have bike paths and you even rent a bike and use that.
Love the remodeling. Take family & dog out there. Bring blanket & food. Great spot to relax
Beautiful place for the whole family. Great place to relax, walk and admire classic and contemporary art. Admission is free. Donations are welcomed. I strongly recommend.
One of my favorite places to visit. The gardens are beautiful for a Sunday stroll or bringing your kids to run around. The exhibits are very interesting and varied. The guided tours are provided by detailed and knowledgeable volunteers. The special exhibitions are worth the fee. It is a place to visit and visit again. Love it!
Cultural Intelligence 1.0This establishment is well run, superbly curated, and lively! Near NCSU and the fairgrounds, this spot has grabbed the attention of the local community. I’ve been to several sold out exhibits and for good reason; they maintain a regular circulation of new art.Facilities are well managed, the people are warm, welcoming and knowledgeable, and the interior and exterior attractions are lovely.
Such a beautiful place to go and enjoy the outdoor air. Great to walk around and to do it with friends and family.
Some outdoor fun with friends. Clean, huge place and nice restrooms. Lots of group activities going on all around.
Beautiful landscaping, interesting pieces to contemplate and explore, lovely trails that are populated enough to feel safe yet numerous enough that you dont feel crowded. I enjoyed walking around and picking up on all of the different languages that were being spoken around me. A great place for quiet reflection, romance, or family fun!
Sundays are very busy, we just visited the outdoor park area and really enjoyed our time.
Lot of art to look at so its pretty neat. Plenty of trails and grass to find a nice picnic spot
Love walking here. There is always plenty of parking and it seems like they change the outdoor pieces frequently. The trails connect to the capital greenway so this is a great place to access those. Because of current restrictions on gatherings, they were not allowing people to picnic/sit, only walking and biking on the trails. In normal times, this is a great place to hang out and enjoy the open grassy area.
We visited NC Museum of art on Sunday in February. It was our first visit to this place. After a long walk around green park and pond we saw amphitheater. There weren’t any shows that day but would love to attend if get a chance and then we visited the museum. I was stunned with the range of collection they had. So many paintings, statues and various masterpieces . I would recommend to visit this place to explore history of art and art in history. I specially liked the painting made up of motherboard waste . A good place to visit and I am sure it would inspire you to painting yourself. I am sharing some pictures .
Outstanding largely modern art museum in North Carolina. It’s vast - consisting or two huge main buildings and an enormous sculpture garden. One of the things that constantly surprised me on this most recent road trip was the extraordinary high quality of museums attached to fairly small cities.
Both the outdoors exhibits and the indoors ones are beautiful. A wonderful place for a run or a family walk or even a nice art show
Love this trail!Nice people great art and music
It is good place for families and friends, for student to get best knowledge. It beautiful and location accessible .
Basically just went there to meet someone for lunch brought our sandwiches or whatever and 6 ft apart and it was a beautiful day and a beautiful setting.
Great place whether you want to take a leisurely walk, absorb a piece of history or simply bask in the beauty of nature
The lawn part of the art museum is awesome! Feels like a mini central park! Loved laying a blanket out, having some drinks and snacks, and people and dog watching!
This park has plenty of parking and it is very spacious, clean and beautiful layout. There are many large sculptures scattered around the park. I couldnt find a map that captures the locations of the sculptures and not sure if such a map exists. This park is very dogfriendly and people come to relax, study, read, play, picnic. There are many trails, and the trail map is available online.
Such an incredibly fun place to visit. The exhibits are incredibly interesting and fun to look at and they seem to get updated pretty often. Also, its a really great place to take pictures!
Amazing trails starting from NC museum of art and connecting to downtown via Reedy Creek trail
The park and walking trail around is really good for biking, exercise or just simply relax. The parking is also very nice and convenient and there is always spot, so no one has to look around for parking spot. Its one of perfect spot for unwinding daily stress, relaxing with friends or someone special!
I heard that the best season is spring and summer here for outdoor. I’m lucky that I caught a good weather today. The Jew’s exhibition amazed me a lot since I just finished the trip to Israel. And the other art I love is north European and Italian exhibitions. I enjoy the traditional art more than modern art.
Really awesome museum! I was pretty blown away by what they had there. There was a lot of great art from many different periods and I enjoyed it a lot. The outdoor stuff was cool too, it was just super hot and humid out. I picked up some socks from the gift store!
Art while you walk! Beautiful pathways through interesting sculptures. Call in to the posted number and hear information about each piece.
Never thought I would see Rodin here! What a rich variety of exhibits! Famous paintings to rare exhibits of the Rodin sculptures. Roman and Greek urns, Egyptian paintings, replica of Greek sculptures - you would find that. You would also find ethnic African paintings, Brazilian paintings and East Indian paintings - if I recollect correctly. A must for parents who want to kindle the interest of arts in their children. And what a variety! amazing. This museum needs a full week to visit and admire all the artwork displayed here. Sculpture section, Rodin of course! ancient Greek, Roman, Egyptian artifacts - art section : mesmerizing!
Better than many other state art museums. Probably the best one in the south. A must see.
Wonderful sprawling outdoor grounds amongst large sculptures. Great place for a picnic or stroll.
Unfortunately for an art museum, very unpleasant experience. Very rude and unprofessional greeters and staff. The front desk did try to rectify the situation when we explained how rude the staff were and they did their best to rectify the situation. Overall, a bad experience. No clear directions and many of the greeters were harassing
The venue is one of my favorite. However why they make you park at the bottom of the hill and then walk all the way back up it to get to the end of the line is a mystery to me. Two feed lines from the two different lots would have been much more fair. The sound is excellent and the lighting is subdued. Very intimate setting.
If you can, visit during the flower show! The grounds are beautiful great for walking around in the fields. With art outside you can’t go wrong. The new pathways are a joy to walk on and the interior exhibits are on par with a much larger city and I’m much more expensive museum. One of Raleigh and North Carolina’s gems!
It was raining and we were not properly prepared. But would like to visit again. Its an outdoor museum on a long trail.
Always perfect picnic spot! The interior is incredible, but outside is Oh My!Perfect walking area with beautiful surroundings. Love the gardens. There was a wedding on this visit.....what a great wedding spot. The fact that the temp is right at freezing, yet there are so many people enjoying the grounds tells you everything you need to know.Pics are minimal compared to all that’s here. B-E-A-utiful!!
Nice outdoor space for hanging out. If you need some sun and cant get to the beach this is a possible alternative. Pet friendly and great walking trails. We tend to bring a hammock and hang around for a few hours. The art is nice as well.
This is a must-see destination in the Raleigh area. Im an art historian with a passion for museums, and I was completely surprised and impressed with the quality of this museum. It has a substantial piece from practically every major artist in the Western tradition of art including Botticelli, Titian, Rembrandt, and Monet. I discovered a painting I absolutely fell in love with, Eruption of Vesuvius. The collection is comprehensive and well-rounded. I especially enjoyed the small selection of Ancient Egyptian art because the pieces are well preserved and of a high quality similar to the Met or Louvre. Basically the NCMOA focuses on quality over quantity, which is what I want in a museum. Give yourself 4 hours to view this gem of a collection. You wont be disappointed, especially since entrance is FREE!
For being a free museum this was incredible! We were in Raleigh for a weekend and this was a great place to stop and spend a few hours. The outside walking trails and sculpture gardens were HUGE and much larger than I could have ever imagined! I will definitely be back!
I love the parks and trails here. A great way to get out and enjoy a day without it costing money
Very unique and fun place to visit. Its great for any age. Theres so much to see in the outdoor spaces as well as the indoor. They have THE best summer concert series around. The venue is amazing for evening outdoor shows. Its shaded at night so its not too hot.
North Carolina Museum of Art.COVID-19 ask mask and free ticket copy.Always the right decision.
Permanent collection is awesome, with a diverse array of art (of many different types of media) from BC to now. Their traveling or nonpermanent exhibitions are always top notch and impressive. Worth the 3 hour drive from where I live.
Wonderful museum with absolutely gorgeous grounds and walking trails. Theres so much to see and do, it takes a few trips! Its also a lovely spot for photo sessions.
I love this place!!! Its beautiful! Its well taken care of and the art is amazing. Theres lots of different cultures and eras to choose from when looking around. Theyve got some impressive artists and impressive works by artists you may not even know. They have a cool little coffee shop (super important, in my opinion) and they even have a restaurant! I havent eaten there but I definitely plan on it, soon. Walking past it, I saw some peoples plates and it looked great! I cant wait to go back!
One of my favorite places in Raleigh. I love being able to walk around and experience these beautiful art installations in an outdoor setting. I like that they have some exhibits that stay and some things that change. Great for anyone - families, couples, friends, individuals. Highly recommend this experience to everyone.
Outside is better than inside! So open and beautiful and spacious. Perfect for walks. Take the kids for all the art structures to play on. Always adding new and cool stuff. For me - personally - too many statues. But thats just me :)
Wow. If you are ever visiting Raleigh go to NCMA. You can go for a beautiful walk, listen to live jazz, watch movies in the park, dance in the fields, and look at art. They make it incredibly accessible to access, completely free, and you can walk in the front door, like you would walk into your back yard. The art collection is pretty solid, although it would be nice if they had more impressionist paintings.
Wife and I were visiting from FL. We loved this place, and ended up spending hours there. Great exhibits and beautiful outdoor park and pathway with more installations and structures. Many pieces are monumental in size taking advantage of the wide open space.
We had fun outside and took good pictures. It was close when went there
Finally reopened after kovid! Nice walking trails great outdoor exhibits was a beautiful visit
One-of-kind place!!! Besides beautiful buildings filled with amazing works of art, theres an outdoor park with walking trails & sculptures, outdoor concert/movie venue, gorgeous landscaping, & plenty of parking. Our state is lucky to have this museum!
This is such a beautiful park.
Nice pathway with outdoor sculptures that you can enjoy even during Covid
We love the park part of the NCMA; never actually been inside the museum. Plenty of trails, open spaces for kids to ride bikes, fly kites, etc. Be aware, not paranoid, as copperheads are around.
Amazing spot smack in the middle of the city to walk, run, bike, relax, let the kids play. Love it.
What a beautiful place. The walk outside in the grounds was very nice and enjoyable. Waking with family and pets around the giant at work was very relaxing. This is a must see if you are in the area.
I loved it there .you can have a great time there by walking around the musume or going outside on their trails .
Beautiful collection and park. Great place to spend a few hours wondering.
This is just one of the best spots to visit in Raleigh. You can exercise, picnic, learn, sit in a quite spot to read or work. Not to mention the awesome movies they show in the summer. I never have a bad time here. Pure joy.
The tour guide was not that great but the way they had the art set up was good
This is probably one of my favorite hidden gems in our area! Never disappoints from the miles of trails, the pocket park for little kids (complete with covered area), art classes, concerts, movies and the exhibits. Always something for everyone even if you arent an art enthusiast! The parking is easily accessible too. Would highly recommend to anyone living here or visiting!
It was awesome. Definitely packed but it was easy to see all the exhibits and enjoy the art and flowers. Will definitely go back next year.
I love to learn historical from their art. Every century has their own unique.
Beautiful place to take pictures, relax, spend time with family, workout, or walk the dogs.
Wonderful facility, arrows on the floor to direct people to help with social distancing and all people wore masks. If you didnt have one, they had supplies to offer.
