Wow I can’t believe this only has 3 stars. It is probably one of the best hikes in Utah county - I would say on equal footing with Timp. Beautiful basin and really fun scramble. The moves are easy and you are never in danger of death. Also shorter - more doable as a half day thing - and less busy.
WARNING: no official trail, and quite the scramble to reach the summit, but a wonderful view and a whole heard of mountain goats passed me.I hiked this from the Big Springs trailhead. There is a well maintained trail all the way up to the saddle between Cascade and Shingle Mill. You can then take on of the contour cuts on Single Mill to the saddle between that mountain and Freedom Peak. At this point any distinctive trail ends and you just have to make your own way to the top. Be careful about your foot placement. In many places a fall would send you down the mountain quite a ways. Dont think too easily on that, because there were some spots where I thought, If I fall here its game over. The ridge is very rocky and requires good maneuverability. The perk of summitting this mountain is you will probably be the only person there and the views are great. I give this one a 4 because its not the tallest mountain in this area and its view isnt the best compared to some of the neighboring peaks.
IT WAS PRETTY SPOOKY
