Ohhh the memories of the HFAC in the 90s...it will always be a place filled with Hopes... Dreams...and AspirationsThe theaters and recital halls are just as I remembered ...all filled with magic! There is always some type of performance or recital or rehearsal happening on the many stages ...The stage in the photo is the Pardoe Theater on the first floor.I got lucky and found parking very close to the HVAC... and it was after 7pm, so the lot was not restricted to permit holders.I highly recommend any performance on any of the stages at the BYU HFAC.. ..The quality rivals that of any professional theater, opera, or symphony..
I love the HFAC, but it can be confusing to find your way around if you havent been there a lot before. Especially on floor 1, which is probably haunted. I go to the HFAC 3–4 days every week, but I almost never go down there.
Quite the maze of a building but that’s what makes it fun I suppose. DeJong Concert Hall is a nice venue within.
This building has a lot of personality to sag the least.
Gorgeous main atrium. The rest of the building is just a classic fine arts building. Lots of halls with posters of concerts and events, loads of classrooms and practice rooms. The best part about this fine arts center is the performing groups that they get to come and perform there. Definitely worth paying attention to their events. All in all great place.
There are free faculty/student concerts and recitals every week during the semester. The concerts requiring tickets are reasonably priced, and there is always a display of student at to look at before and after concerts. It is definitely a hub of student life and always a great place for an inexpensive date night. Couple your visit with a trip to the nearby museum of art and it is a wonderful free date. When there are no concerts, it is easy to stop down the hallways where students are practicing their various instruments (free concerts) or students are drawing in the atrium.Well with the visit. Parking in the museum lot is free and usually pretty open in the evening.
Nice building. Easy accessibility. Lots of stairs
It’s a good place to watch catch a performance. Seating is comfortable and the sound is good. We went for a vocal point concert and enjoyed the overall experience. I’d like to go back and find other performances to watch. We were in the De Jong concert hall.
Literally a gorgeous place. I didnt get the chance to explore it that much but it literally just seems like such a cool atmosphere. Hoping to explore it more in the future
We love this place. We come here at least a few times a year for student and faculty recitals. If you havent been to one, youve got to try it. Go Cougs!
Such a magical place for music, art, etc.
This is a fantastic place to get [accidentally] punched in the face and bleed everywhere
I love HFAC. The art pieces that are on display are always interesting and refreshing. The art pieces in the F wing are also my favorite. Sometimes they have interactive pieces which add more fun to visiting HFAC. I am sad that I dont have more pictures of exhibits. They also hold concerts and devotionals at HFAC.
The concert halls are amazing but the best part of this building is the music. The Christmas choir concert was perfect and something I will never forget. Everyone will miss sister Hall. She is EPIC!
This place holds a special place in my heart from the time I spent taking classes and learning art and design skills. They also have quite a few theater rooms which are nice. Although the building is getting a bit old, it still works very well for their needs. I am excited to see what version 2 of the HFAC is like!
The official productions that BYU puts on, whether they be musicals, operas, plays, or concerts, are ALWAYS incredible! The talent, costumes, and stage sets are always top of the line and incredibly impressive. I believe that any production you attend will be worth your money!
The stage set up was good, but whoever designed the access to the audience seats needs their head examined.
Great exhibits, really nice architecture. The events put on are phenomenal as well, great showcases of student talent and creativity.
Great performances at reasonable prices. Brings back memories from my college years
Clean, spacious building, chill vibe, excellent auditoriums.
It’s fun as a BYU student to go in every once in awhile and check out the art.
Its design is elegant, and the exhibits features are interesting. The building has several theatre theaters, all of which are good quality. The shows here are usually very good, and range from annak student productions to performances by top professionals. The building is a little labyrinthine, though to someone not familiar with the layout. First time theater goers will probably need to ask for directions.
Incredible art. Always has really fun things going on. Building well kept/maintained.
I have attended school here for 6 years and LOVE it! It is an incredible facility.
In 2003 I was a freshman and got lost looking for my classroom on the lower levels of this building. I am still here. Send help.
Great place to watch a concert!! Tickets are decently priced and the seating is great as well
Loved seeing the Young Ambassadors perform. Great show!
This is a beauitful historical building on campus. The insides are both old fashioned and new age. The Fine Arts part spiffs it up even more. I love coming here.
I watched a BYU Synthesis performance here once. I LOVED it. These guys know their jazz. I can only say good things about them. I especially love the saxophone section and the piano. If you have never been to at least one show, then I would strongly encourage you to watch this award winning band.
Great mid century art vibe here. Open acoustics and great smells. I could live here.
BYU Bravo series is fantastic! New York/Broadway talent right here in Provo!
There are a number of plays and musical performances here throughout the year as well as free art shows from students and faculty. The building can be confusing to navigate, but most of the performing areas are easy to navigate.
This building is a labyrinth! Good luck trying to find your classes in here.
Ive loved attending plays here, and am always impressed with BYUs talent.
Saw Patti Lupone and she was amazing! The facikty is nice, but older. Did I mention that Patti Lupone was amazing.
Ive seen many a wonderful production here. My only tip, whoever designed the building as a concert venue underplanned it in terms of bathrooms.
Archaic. Not dusty, but archaic. Many of the professors attitudes are out of place in modernity. I attended the School of Music section of the HFAC, and while I certainly got great technical training, there was absolutely no preparation for working in the real world. The professors cant train students on working outside of the academic environment because most of them have never sustained themselves working outside of the academic environment. The HFAC is a great place for demonstrating that BYU cares much much more for its sponsors than it does its students. Thats why most of the concerts here are tailored for old people and old peoples tastes in music. Go to any ticketed music even here and its likely that you, just like I was many times, will be sat next to a farting old person and made to endure what will seem like hours of well performed but boring old music.Theres nothing progressive happening here. Students are not free to express themselves in any way that doesnt conform to the professors strict idea of what it means to make art. I wrote many pieces for concerts here, and while everyone generally enjoyed them, I was always critiqued only by my professors for writing music meant for passive rather than active listening. Ive since written music for video games and stories, without complaints from my clients. We live in the age of the internet now, and the idea of sitting down for a concert just isnt as viable a living as it was in say, the 1800s. Making music that listeners will enjoy that I can make money from shouldnt mean I am a bad artist. Many of the music performance teachers here are abusive to their students. While working with a pipe organ professor I was constantly told I was a bad student for not practicing more, even though I was going through very serious neck and back therapy at the time which was incredibly painful. Yes, I had a note from my doctor. Yes, this professor had been sent a notice from the disabilities office. And no, he didnt care. He no longer teaches here, but hes not the only professor who doesnt care about health problems, mental or physical. I met 10-12 students who were forced to drop out of their major - very talented musicians I worked with who just didnt want to endure the constant verbal attacks that private lessons with professors here forced them to endure.
Great performing arts center. Not a bad seat in the ht. Plenty of parking. The place is clean and youre surrounded by great arts.
I love the HFAC! Its a gorgeous art building on campus and I enjoy spending hours here doing homework, singing with the choir, or attending my figure drawing class. The layout of the building is tricky to navigate at first, but soon becomes a piece of cake! Galleries are always changing and displaying new art; the recital halls are always hosting performances. Beautiful building.
I went to the byu mens chorus concert. It was amazing!
Great professors and facility. Getting old, but still works.
Happy BYU memories here. Many plays and concerts attended here. Education week and BYU organ workshop. Lots of art.
Good building. The main room could have some more diversity in the art but overall its good.
I attended a graduation event here. The building is very beautiful. The seats in the concert hall are very comfortable, too.
A really cool place for classical concerts. I love looking at the senior art student expositions in the main hall before and after a performance.
Excellent place to go for date nights with all the performances that happen here, the student recitals are phenomenal as well, and you can check out the cool exhibits they have on display. Plenty to do! Would recommend!!!
I pretty much live here. Its a maze-ing!
I have seen many wonderful musical and dramatic productions here! I had classes in this building as a BYU student!
We came here to see the play Anne of Green Gables and really loved the set up and intimate feeling of the small theater we were in. The building itself was lovely and beautiful. It was quite easy to find our way around which we were grateful for. I would come here again for sure to see another performance.
Great shows, dance, and music from the music school at BYU and its visitors.
They have at least 6 pianos. Top quality place.
There are a lot of great activities that go on here. Plays, dance shows, and musicals. It is a fun place to enjoy the arts.
Very nice sound quality was good and loved the performance
Such a lovely building of music and art. I think this might be my favorite building on campus.
Have seen some awesome plays, musicals & other performances here.
Very cool visual art exhibitsmusical performances also occur here regularly during the school yearfacilities are nicethis building can be quite confusing to navigate if you dont know where youre going
Confusing to try and get around the basement rooms. If you have ever found yourself at the depths of the hfac you might have also aged several years.
We went to see Lore at this location. It was nice because every seat in the house is a good one. Great experience.
Great place to see a show. Plenty to see. Sometimes the experience feels a little pricey.
I love the art department at BYU.
See a show or an exhibition. Love walking the to see what students are up to. On Fridays at lunch they have an hour of live music and it’s fantastic.
Great shows, easy parking, and a chance to support students!
We went and saw Living Legends. It was a beautiful performance. We will definitely go back.
The artwork in this building is amazing, no questions there. But the layout is just a maze. I cant count how many times Ive gotten lost in this building, and one of the few maps that Ive found is on the 4th floor. Why in the heck wouldnt they put it on the main floor?? Finding a specific room or performance hall can be difficult, but if youre going to an event the path should be fairly well marked.
Get to see shows for a fair price.
This is a great place to experience the great fine arts that BYU offers almost continuously. There is a great variety of things to experience, some from students and some from visiting experts. The theaters and presentation Halls themselves are fine but the building as a whole is showing its age and is in need of a remodel.
Great concert experience seeing the Danish String Quartet. There are multiple concert halls though, so if you arent familiar with the building, so may want to arrive early to find the right one.
5 stars I loved the corndog exhibit
Its a pretty confusing building, so be ready to spend some time trying to find where youre going. But the facilities are beautiful and theres always new art to look at.
Quality performance and venue.Loved the interaction with the cast post-production.
Spent way too much time in here. Great facilities, great entertainment, great everything.
Excellent! A large variety of galleries. I think there were nine exhibits. Most people would find something that intrigues them.Wide open spaces. Very calm and comfortable setting. Id love to live close by and be able to visit often. I imagine I saw only 5% of the building, floors and exhibit areas. Most (maybe all) exhibits are there for a limited time. Therefore, you could see something different every time you visited. For example, a current exhibit was entirely dedicated to Pulitzer prize-winning photos, displayed in large format showing a great deal of detail. All had descriptions of the photographer and the setting; usually explaining how that extraordinary shot was captured. It was fascinating.Additionally I saw fine art (my personal favorite) from various painters as well as sculptures. It was not crowded, and felt very inviting; even to a non-artsy person such as myself. It did not feel snobbish at all.The staff were considerate and very helpful.I saw two gift shops, though I didnt enter either. Fortunately they were not obtrusive or distracting.Very good experience!
This is a great theater to watch operas, concerts, or whatever.
Wonderful place. Maybe a bit rundown, but thats not as important as whats actually inside, which are the people who perform and study the arts. They are amazing people, dedicated, and very human.
The exhibits were all wonderful. Though, unless they have changed them, I would suggest going to the one with the Pulitzer Price Photos first. The reason being that when I went through with a friend it was a little to gloomy and I would have preferred ending on a nicer note.
Media Arts Student from 2017-2019.Spacious, fun BYU Theatre performances, and plenty of easily-accesible bathrooms. This building is actually going to be torn down in the next few years to make a new Fine Arts building. Im super bummed because I like the hodge-podge architecture but I think its cool to see the arts get funded for a change.
Concert Hall was beautiful and performers we incredible and gracious!
Beautiful building and the artists here are all so talented!
My son and I got to head attend an event where students were competing in singing. They were well-trained and well-prepared and they did a great job. It was a free event and my son was able to pass off one of his requirements for his middle school choir class.
It is a beautiful big place, almost like a maze
The Harris Fine Arts Center is outstanding. Accoustics in all the theaters is great. Everything is very clean ( like most of the campus of BYU). Parking is pretty convenient. I have seen many fine performances in each of their theaters.
Acoustics were fine from our seats in the DeJong Concert Hall. This building has challenging access for wheelchairs. The designated parking is not particularly close. Finding your way through a maze of elevators, many locked, makes access to the hall difficult. Many seats have partial views, including the ADA seating area at the back (top) of the auditorium
We enjoyed Mouse Trap put on the BYU Theatre Group (An Agatha Christie play)It was suspenseful, funny, engaging and a delightful murder/mystery!! Amazing talent!! We would encourage all to support the arts at BYU!!
Came here for ClarinetFest 2019. Cool building, its just a little bit hard to navigate through if youre new to it.
Beautiful building, sure makes byu proud
This museum is carefully curated and beautiful. Great for a date night!
Nice place to visit. Went there while my daughter and son-in-law helped make a video for his choir group.
This is a beautiful building. We saw various BYU bands and orchestras perform. They were great!
Oh, the HFAC. It has more performance space than you think because some of the theaters are hidden gems. I have been there for multiple performances in several of the theaters and it is a nice place. There are art installations throughout the building, so it is nice to walk around and see what is there before you go to the performance. The De Jong Concert Hall is very nice and you can see well, even from the nosebleeds. The only issue is the parking. BYU campus doesnt have great parking options, so it can be challenging to find a spot, so get there early.
Very nice venue. Nice and clean. The auditorium is very spacious .
I had a few classes in this building for Education Week at Brigham Young University this past week. The instructions and directions of where to go were clear, and the Hosting Staff were always helpful and friendly, which made the classroom experience all that much more enjoyable. Im coming back next year!
Watched Beatty and the Best. Great performance
Just a great place to learn music and to see great productions. Honestly there are some strange displays but its always interesting.
This is the place where we took our classes at Design Week. Its actually pretty large, so there were a lot of things to see.
