We had a great hike on the hottest day of the year. Bring lots of water. We started off at blue sky then went up to mt woodson then back down and round.ramona lake. Not sure on length of hike but it was a good workout. Up woodson is the toughest section
Nice place. Creekside trail is cool even at summer time. Even though the path is narrow, as long as you wear your mask and keep social distancing, you are still safe.
Large trail with smaller trails off to the sides that are clearly marked. Wished we would have had a map to look at but enjoyed the various educational signs telling us about plants and animals. We thought the large trail circled around but its a trail you go in, turn around to come back out.
We took the lake Ramona trail. Once you pass by the forest, this trail is mostly without any shades so dont forget your hat and sunscreen. At the top theres a dam and the beautiful lake Ramona.
Awesome place to start your 8 mile hike to Potato Chip Mt. or 5 mile hike to Ramona Lake. Free asphalt parking lot with drinking water and bathrooms.
Park is very nice, the walk/hike back to the splits to Lake Poway and Lake Ramona is very easy. When you take the trails to either things change, the road/trail to Lake Ramona becomes steep and climbs nearly 800 feet over the next 1.5 miles (this is where we went). Bring plenty of water.
Enjoyed this hike for several reasons...One, is the alternate Creek trail at beginning (and end) of trail...Two, easy to find, including parking, and not a difficult hike..Three, there are at least two challenging alternate trails (MT Woodson, and hike to the Dam) that can be considered...I did all three.....Recommend this hike, will come again.
Good hike on a summer morning from Bluesky to Ramona lake. It gets hot going up and there is hardly any shade at the lake area. Need to take a good amount of water.
Decided to go here for my first hike in Southern California. There were easy parts, more challenging parts and beautiful views. While there could be a bit more clarity on the signage I loves my visit. I was able to see a variety of insects, a jackrabbit, and a coyote that crossed the trail 10 feet ahead of me.
Nice walk. Moderate number of people on the trail. Most put on a mask to pass which was considerate.
This is a nice place in Poway for easy hiking /strolling in a peaceful natural reserve area. No entrance fees. There is a parking lot and trail map is posted there. There are couple of smaller trails emerging from the main trail path that runs from the main road to the deep end of the reserve, out and back.
Potato Chip Rock via Mt. Woodson Trail is a 7.6 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Poway, California that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. Please bring plenty of water and sunscreen.
I love this hike, but it is better to hike it in the morning as there is no shade once you begin the uphill trek. Also, parking is very limited as the parking lot is only open at half capacity. And do not park along the eastern portion of the road; that is a bike lane and you will be ticketed (I saw many cars parked along the road and all received parking violations.)
Is a nice, place to go with your family we love it so much it was the first time.
I really like this hike. I’ve been on it twice and it’s been good. Both times I’ve done the Ramona lake. It takes about an hour to get and at the end it gets very steep. The view is worth it. If you go early enough it’s pretty empty. However, the later you go it will be hard to find parking. It also gets very hot so make sure you bring plenty of water. Next time I go, I plan to take the Poway lake trail.
Mid day on Tuesday is quiet with a gentle breeze and the scent of green growing plants and damp soil . Pretty wild flowers too.
Great views. Good set of trails. Nice picknik area below the Poway lake dam.
Great place to run, walk or just meander and enjoy nature.
This was a beautiful hike and a great workout. I will definitely come back!
Nice hiking trails with convenient restroom distances, and shady areas.
Beautiful scenery along the entire trail. Nice views of Ramona Lake at the end. This trail is rated as easy however I dont think its good for beginners as there are some steep inclines. Watch out for lots of Bee hives that were sworming inside these white boxes once you reach the lake.
Great 5mi round trip hike up to lake Ramona through some sensitive ecological areas, or turn down a path to take you up to Lake Poway. This is generally a level 2.5 rated hike with good distance, wide trails and some long inclines (that will get your heart going). I loved it so much I came back the next day and jogged it. Note that parking is ok but limited and there are lots of dog walkers on the trails.
Great place for a walk in nature. Not too much of a challenge unless you head up to Poway or Ramona Lakes. Bathrooms and parking at trail heads.
Nice hike with well maintained trails. We took the trail over to Lake Poway this time.
It was absolutely beautiful and green thanks to all the recent rain. The trails are well-maintained and it was great for taking our dog with us.
Nice hikes, and a lot of shade, particularly over a well-spaced set of picnic tables on one trail.
Nice Oaks, and trail nature signage.
Great hike from Poway up to the Ramona Lake Dam or the Poway Lake Dam. Be advised a mountain lion recently attacked a child and was then put down. Be aware their are wild animals.
Beautiful views and a great way to have fun while having some excersice (hiking)
Lake Ramona is truly a hidden gem of San Diego
A little lackluster for my liking, but had some decent open views at several points during the hike. Once you commit to a trail, youre somewhat trapped on that path, especially when nearing Lake Poway. It was a Plan B type choice, and should remain that way with better options only a short drive away.
Pleasant spot to stretch the legs out without having to worry about being overrun by crowds. Plenty of parking on-site and dog friendly if youre bringing Fido. If you walk far enough, itll connect to the Potato Chip Rock trail near Lake Poway.
Beautiful views very well marked wide trails.
Great area for hikes or runs. Parking can be limited so get to the trails early.
A very beautiful hiking trail. Biking is not allowed though
Great hike, started easy but after a mile expect a lot of elevation. I would recommend lots of water because that last 3 miles are steep!
Great hike but dont park on the on the street because you will get a ticket
Very dry. Some shade. Nice Oak Grove with lots of poison oak.
Nice hike for beginners to intermediate like me. Mainly just wanted to get outside and get some fresh air and exercise. The trails are well groomed on the Poway Loop Trail I did the other day. There is shade in some areas while others are open and exposed to the sun. The trails are well marked. I did the Lake Ramona trail earlier this year and enjoyed it also. Definitely a nice local hike.
Enjoyed hiking from Blue Sky to Poway lake nice incline to make it a little challenging.
One of the best views in San Diego from shaded oak groves to change in elevations to beautiful nice trails include a walk around Lake Poway to complete an hour and a half to two hour hike beautiful!
Great place to enjoy nature or just walk your leashed dog.
Love hiking here, beautiful views at sunrise and sunset
Hard LOL steep well worth it
Beautiful lake area and amazing hiking trails up to mnt woodson
Walking through the oak groves is always enjoyable
Excellent parking!! Very nice gentle walk for seniors and families! Nice little valley to walk up and back again.
Simple love it
Another fun hike. Already starting to warm up. Take water with you.
Had the much needed water after potato chip rock and was a beautiful area.
Very fun experience I really like that you can go to two reservoirs or walk the trail they have group hikes and volunteer work available really nice place to spend a Afternoon
My baby loves walking here!
Very pretty and calm place to be. Perfect for trail running + hiking. Abundant wildlife, and located between Ramona Lake + Poway Lake.
Great day hikes, not very busy. Connects to a few other trails.
One of my favorite places for hiking
Loved the Hoot Howl and Prowl they put on on each October
Love this place! It’s a quiet and beautiful place to hike!
Peaceful, well keep, and trees. Such a relief to have trees. I had never seen wild cucumbers. Very excited to discover local treasures.
It was a great hike, the views, lakes, mountains were amazing!
Blue Sky Reserve is a great place to take a walk with or without your dog. The road follows an ephemeral stream until it opens up into chaparral. You can hike 1.5 miles each way on the mostly flat valley dirt and gravel road or follow the road all the way to the Ramona Dam, another 1.5 miles. Beware that it gets very steep towards the top of the dam and be sure to bring a couple of litres of water for the 6 mile round trip. On weekends volunteer docents offer free interpretive hikes for the City of Poway.
Is ok. Walk but not parking
This is one of my favorite parks in San Diego area. Therer plenty wildflowers and birds to see along the trail side in springtime. Large oak trees provide nice shade for the first section of the hikes.
Awesome hike. Spots to go for an easy hike or a go further for a more challenging hike to Lake Poway or Lake Romona.
Great trails within this park, lots of shade, and not too many people. Had some really scenic spots with benches as well, a good reminder to stop and enjoy the view ;)
About half the parking lot is closed. Trail to Lake Poway is open. Not a lot of hikers. Everyone was practicing social distancing.
Wonderful nature walk along a riparian trail.
Great place to take your dog for a walk.
Great network of trails. Unlike the lake, entry and parking are free for Blue Sky. If you’re willing to go a few extra miles, you can make a loop from Blue Sky to Lake Poway and back, which is a little over 5 miles. It’s moderate, I’d say. If it’s a hot day (and most days are), bring lots of water.
Cool little spot for A quick hike
Beautiful hike combined with a moderately difficult climb up to Lake Poway
Good place to hike with your dogs.
Only reason I couldnt give them the bump to the 5th star was for the dang parking situation. Im not sure how long the reserve has been around, but whoever thought that parking lot was large enough to accommodate the traffic the reserve sees (especially on weekends) had to be out of their mind. But, the upside to it is that it minimizes the number of people in the reserve at one time. It makes it really peaceful once you get back in there and away from the draw of the closer trails/attractions. I enjoyed it! Definitely recommend it, but GO EARLY!!
Warm, but not too hot for a walk to the dam!
Great place to go hike with your best friend in my case my dog.
Easy to moderate hikes, going to the lake be careful and dont hike along the powerline road. But the hike to the lake is steep! Be prepared, but very easy until the steep portion. Beautiful lake. Well maintained recreation area.
Hiked Mt Woods on from Poway lake trail head. Beautiful hike but go early to avoid the crowds at Potato Chip rock. Started at 5.30 am. Plan on 2 hrs to reach summit at a good pace.
Parking is free but limited during busy times. I always hike to Lake Ramona. There is no shade so avoid during hot days. Bring plenty of water. The last mile or so to the lake is all up hill so be prepared but it is paved and level. The view is very worth it
Well maintained trails and plenty of shade!
Mountain trails. Enough said.I walked a challenging hike and was rewarded with beautiful scenery.
Easy to find and plenty of free parking. A trail that leads to lake Poway & lake Ramona. Relatively easy hiking trails with beautiful views. One of my favorite spots in northern San Diego!
Beautiful park and great hiking trails
Excellent hiking and nature seeing.
Fantastic hike. 2 1/2 hours round trip. Take water
Serene pristine trails
So beautiful and clean. A definite must for a Saturday afternoon stroll. Light foot traffic, dog friendly.
Keep in mind parking is $10 if you are not a Poway resident. To park outside the park and walk in is not worth the trouble. Youd have to park far and walk uphill. Pay the fee, and enjoy the extensive walking and hiking trails, picnic tables and grassy areas. You can reasonably rent a boat to take on the lake (3 choices, paddle, oar or quiet motor) for $10 a half hour or $15 for a full hour. The full hour is overkill unless youre going to fish. Which is also allowed on the lake. the trails arent as well, we got lost a couple of times just trying to figure out if we were going in the right direction and I said other hikers and bikers in our past. We all ended up asking one another which direction to go in. overall however we spent a wonderful afternoon hiking and boating
Great place to hike! Lots of trails and a cool little picnic are.
Blue Sky Reserve usually has ample parking there are two hiking trails that you can start from one about Midway down the parking lot in the other at the very end the south end of the parking lot. Both of them join up not far behind Beyond the beginning of the trail. Leisurely walk to the bottom you can Branch off to the right and go up towards Lake Poway or you can go to the left and stay to the left and you will go on up to Lake Ramona. Although swimming is not technically allowed many people to go swimming great place to go for dogs to go walking and then have a quick dip at the top views are quite nice. Its a wide Road that is suitable for people to walk next to each other so a good place to have a nice long stroll and conversation with friends. On a good day you can see the ocean from the dam.
Great hiking location. Easy access and easy hiking with options for different trails and destinations. Take a short hike (~1 mile) to the trail split point and turn around, or choose to hike to Lake Ramona, or to Lake Poway.
Amazing nature and trails! A must for every hiker
Always a nice walk, cooling breeze and plenty of wildlife
Fun for all ages.
We spent a nice day there.
This is quite a hike but its so worth it. The first half of the hike is mostly nice smooth inclines but the second hike is a lot of small steps and rocks. Definitely recommend a hiking stick or something to help with balance. Its a long hike so also bring a lot of water and snacks. Theres a couple vantage points to rest but generally be prepared to take breaks in small crevices along the side of the path.
