Really beautiful attraction and grounds at the Chinese Garden! Costs around $13 per adult and I believe a lesser fee for children. It will take about an hour, depending on how long you would wish to stay and if you enjoy reading about the history of things, linger while enjoying all the artwork on display, enjoy the tea garden, etc. The artwork displayed changes periodically, I believe, so make sure to visit every season. As someone said below, its a beautiful gem of a place amidst all the hustle of the city. It isnt in the best part of town, but dont let that deter you from visiting. We really enjoyed the tea garden and the snacks they had there- the moon cake, almond cookies, and mango slices, along with different teas, like hibiscus and earl grey.

This is a terrific spot beautiful. Great spot to take your kids or family the girlfriend boyfriend or yourself. I went during the coronavirus with one of my friends. We had a terrific time there. It wasnt crowded at all. They have all the safety procedures in place for this Corona pandemic. The Chinese Garden actually has parking also Kurt and I plan to go back this coming Wednesday.

It was a cute little garden. I took my mom for my birthday. You get an hr tour and make sure to RSVP your time slot. The only thing I didnt like was that its located in a bad area, downtown. Alot of tens and it was kind of scary around that area. I paid for parking $4, as expected.

Spectacular! The garden is entire city block in wonderful Portland. When you step inside, it as if you are transported to an entirely different place with no city noises or intrusions. Carefully constructed over time and expertly maintained. So much to see and enjoy. This is a place where you can slow down and enjoy the beauty of nature framed by the imagination of the builders.

Small, but so very beautiful! It seems too small when I looked on the map, but great reviews helped me to make the right decision and actually visit it. It opens up a new perspective with every turn, so it actually doesn’t feel that small, incredible planning. They run free guided tours several times a day which helps to enjoy experience even more. Even though it was a mid Feb, there were a few plants blooming, some with such a delightful aroma. Their website has a handy guide on garden plants by season, so there is always something to see year round. There is a tea house within the garden (therefore available only for people with membership or admission) which offers a nice selection of teas with some snacks and sweets like almond, walnut, pecan cookies and light meals like veggie dumplings and steamed buns. So peaceful - worth a visit!

We drove to Portland for a day trip from Seattle and found ourselves in the downtown area trying to figure out what to do until checking in later in the afternoon. We happened to find the gardens almost immediately, so after paying for street parking and talking to a friendly homeless fella we ponied up the admission fee and headed inside. I hadnt looked at too many photos prior, so I was pleasantly surprised by the ornate and beautiful gardens. Theres a tea garden where you can rest and refuel with a lovely cup of tea and assorted light foods. During our time in the tea house a man played a traditional Chinese instrument, which added to the whole experience. Definitely glad we stumbled upon this place and I look forward to visiting again in the future!

Interesting installation in China Town. The pieces of art are pretty good & most of them are for sale. Dont bother going here if youre not interested in art/ architecture - theres a $10.95 fee for adults.

I went to the Japanese Gardens yesterday. Totally different vibe. Both are excellent. The Lan Su Chinese Gardens are enclosed by walls and buildings and centered around a smallish pond. The Gardens are a tranquil oasis in the thick of downtown Portland that claim to be one of the most authentic Chinese gardens outside of China. Great collection of art works of various media, cool rocks, beautiful trees, and....some shrubbery (I witnessed no Knights of Ni :) The Tea House serves a few dim summy type dishes and offers a good selection of teas, made available with or without a ceremony.

I took my family here and it was pretty good. Honestly, the location is a little out of the way but thats okay because you get a chance to tour Chinatown a little bit. The whole area is ripe with culture (if you know where to look). Places like this have some story behind the pieces in these exhibits. The inside, though trapped in a city, is actually very peaceful.

I love the fact that it is right in the heart of downtown. You can have a fancy lunch, drink expensive wine and get lost in the beauty of the garden within 10 minutes of each other. Only in Portland, I tell you. Keep in mind that this is not as huge (or expensive) as the Japanese gardens but it is just as beautiful. Youll probably need an hour to cover the entire thing but itll be well worth it.

This garden is such a beautiful and tranquil place in the middle of an otherwise sketchy region in the NW. Its in the China towm district of Portland, just adjoining the Pearl, and for me, it serves as a good break from trying out various food places in the Pearl. I was apprehensive about going in here in the beginning, but the insides are quite nice and you can relax with a good book and some tea. Its particularly pretty in the fall as all the tress turn red. Not a bad idea to check out this place for a few minutes. can get crowded over the weekend though.

I am sure that the gardens are very nice, but unfortunately, Ill never find out. We bought tickets to visit last week, but we never made it inside because the place is swarmed with homeless people completely surrounding the area and blocking the entrance. There are literally tents covering the sidewalks to the point that it is impossible to walk around. When attempting to park nearby, the parking machine was not working, and we felt extremely uncomfortable leaving our car with dozens of people sitting around watching us. We were then accosted by homeless people who live outside the garden. In the end, we decided to leave and throw away the cost of our tickets. The gardens and Portland have got to do something about the homeless population. We have traveled throughout every continent of the world, and we have never seen a situation as bad as Portland.

Through the eyes of an adult, this garden is an overwhelmingly lovely example of craftsmanship. From the inlaid stone paths to the intricate wood carving to the beautifully manicured plants, this garden exemplifies true attention to detail.Through the eyes of a child though... this place is truly magical. Upon entering the courtyard one is transported into a different world; away from the sounds and sites of the city street just across the wall, it’s easy to forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city. The volunteer provided us with a “scavenger hunt” for things to look for within the garden. The search aspect got him interested but the sense of not knowing what lay beyond the next corner kept him interested.

This garden has become one of my Portland favorites, visiting often to catch the changing seasons. Sadly the area is rather desolate... but the gardens themselves are well maintained and there is always one or two special exhibitions and demonstrations. It was a good place to take a great picture. Since I have a Chinese boyfriend, he said that this place is like a rich royal familys house in ancient China. People who loves to experience the Chinese culture or take a great picture, I prefer you to visit this place. They had really beautiful flowers everywhere when I visited. They also had a person who will write your name in a white paper with some traditional Chinese characters ($15 without frame/$25 with frame) Moreover, they had cute orange fish in the pond. I highly recommend taking a tour if you can. Since this garden is not terribly large (one city block), it is really easy to breeze through it and miss something. A tour will force you to stop and consider what there is to see from multiple vantage points.
