Public Art and statues provide a city like Portland something to add to the community fabric. This is a statue dedicated to John Ford. It is located a little ways from the central port tourist area but interesting to learn something about the film maker/ director. It is easy to miss the statue since it is not large.

Nice place to stop and take a breather
Hollywood film director John Ford was born and raised in the greater Portland area. The statue is situated near the location of his fathers store in the old Irish neighborhood of Portland. The statue shows him in a directors chair, looking east toward his childhood home on Munjoy Hill. The statue is surrounded by marble posts that commemorate important achievements in his life. The statue is located at the corner of Danforth and Pleasant streets. There are no actual crosswalks across either street, so be careful. This five way intersection is busy at rush hour and on weekends.
Fantastic monument and tribute to the greatest director of film .
