Find yourself a spot on the dock, crack a cold one, and enjoy views of sunsets, Mt. Hood, and my favorite, the traffic on the I-205 bridge at rush hour.

NO CAR OR PEDESTRIAN ACCESS! ACCESS BY BOAT ONLY. This was always a family favorite! Been boating here for twenty years...its getting less enjoyable because of people who do not respect or understand water recreation. Many people breaking glass and leaving it in the sand, not being safe on the water or in boats. If you go on a weekday, you will have a better time! NOTE: the Columbia River has tides like the ocean! Check your tide tables for the river so that you dont get stranded!

I love it its awesome peace and quite getting tanned love swimming the boating is awesome at 6 the tides come so u have to have a boat to get to ur home the island ..

Great place to boat for the day or spend a few nights camping. Equipped with two out houses cleaned daily by park Rangers.

You can only access by boat, but if you can this uninhabited island is a beautiful place to chill & check out wildlife while watching the boats go by and swimming on hot days.

If you go looking for the geocache on the tip of government island, and you dont bring shoes, dont be surprised if you get a sharp stick embedded in your thigh. Not that this happened to me, but just be cautious. We love government island. Its a great place to let the kids roam free and fend for themselves for weeks at a time. We used to have 4 but lost the littlest one a while back. If you find him, make sure to howl like a wolf and hopefully hell still be walking on two legs. Do not approach, proceed with caution, and call the authorities. Thanks for your help. For those of you lacking a sense of humor, please do not do anything I just said, just enjoy your time on the island. Its a wonderful place.

I tried forming my own government here, and was informed that its actually owned by the state of Oregon, and that my efforts to form a new government collective and rule this island with an iron fist were frowned upon. I figure Ill try one of the ones on the Washington side of the channel instead.

Clean pit/composting toilets with hand sanitizer. A couple of picnic tables for camping. Nice dock. Otherwise no amenities so pack and plan accordingly.

I definitely recommend staying out of the Sun and going into the shade. However, there is fire wood for days and it is a great place to camp for free
