I worked here for 4 months till I was injured. The Management was so unreasonable do the fact the I was on worker comp. Purposely assigning me tasks that was noted by my Doctor that were restrictions. In the 4 year period of employment there I saw at least 10 people of color get fired for as small of a offense as to talk back in response to a Question or speaking to your on co-worker. I used the union to possibly help save my job, little did I know that they all worked together. I Met with meteator to resolve the work comp issue and to address my Doctors resrictions. Ufortunately, I was told after the mediation that I couldnt return to work at all. Go file for unemployment, we cant use you her anymore do to your neck injury. The Manager of Portland 5 Theater.... James Benson. This was a was a week before the pandemic in January of 2020. I still have not received an approval for unemployment did to the management report to the state. People of color have few rights in these business or the union goes along with the company and the employee gets the shaft. I have seen this at Portland 5. Talk to any employee and you will get it straight Story about it. I am still out of work with no unemployment for the four years of money taken of my pay because the management wouldnt approve it because I was injured on the job.... company & union working together against the worker of color. Mind you, this only occurred with the blacks who work at the Keller, Schnitzer Theater, Hattfield.
Beautiful theater not a lot of leg room so if your tall get an end seat or very front row for your long legs front row is fine you do not have to look up like if you were in a movie theater which was nice bathroom was clean ran out of paper towels a few times for the day but staff was prompt at fixing the issue staff was friendly and helpful both inside and out weekend parking was better than friday parking
I saw a Beatles vs Stones cover band shoe here and I loved it. The Stones side wasnt the best singing wise and they did have some technical issues but still enjoyable. The building is very pretty and isnt too hard to navigate. I do recommend taking the stairs if you can
We had a wonderful time and they even set up a little game for the little kids before the show. We had great seats and an even better priced ticket!! After the show we stayed and did a meet and great with the cast of the show for free!! They signed our things then we enjoy the free street band on the corner. We really had an amazing time and we will be back for a whole new adventure
Went on a school field trip here and the place is enormous. I didnt know this existed here and its a gorgeous place. We were assigned to the 3rd level balcony and it was really great seats. You can see the faces and their expressions of the performers.I would visit again, and my son and his class had an amazing time. The staff was friendly, kind, and patient with all the schools visiting at the same time.Thank you for a great experience!
Portland5? What does that mean? Portlands? Portland Five? Awful! Stop combining words like that. Anyways, venue is fine and its... Seemingly accessible?
A very clean, bright and friendly place. The seats are situated in way that all people have a good view of the stage.
Attended on 11/30/19 the 2:00PM performance of Portland Choir and Orchestra Gloria at Newmark Theater. Purchased tickets for front row center Orchestra Row A seats 9 and 10. Those seats were terrible, as we could not even see the orchestra or choir. Moved three rows back at intermission to empty seats which were very good. Would recommend that if the performance is going to be all on the stage in the future that no tickets be sold for rows A and B. Very disappointed with those seats and first half of the performance, as could not see anything.
We went to see Portland Revels, Ghosts of Haddon Hall at the Newmark. This was one of The Revels finest productions since we began attending 12 years ago. Lovely singing, lively and elegant dances. Beautiful set and dramatic costumes.
Went here for my daughters preschool field trip and the play was awesome. Tickets arent very expensive and the kids love it.
Saw a show and throughouly enjoyed ourselves. The vibe of the theater is really 80s retro and cool!
This is a very beautiful theatre. It has many levels and is absolutely gorgeous.
Very nice venue, attractive space with very helpful staff. If youre going to need to get up during an event, you should choose a spot on either end as there is no middle aisle, just long rows of seats. Bathrooms on every floor.
If I could give more stars I would! The customer service is beyond top notch. I was in pickle and the staff there extremely kind and helped me out. All I can say is thank you and would come here again
Great venue, saw Portland mini musical festival in small venue, great volunteers, directions, well run venue and event.
Beautiful setting. Great view from any seat. Great acoustics.
The staff was usually great, but during one of the performances two elderly women that were serving as ushers began discussing, loudly, how people shouldnt come in because it is a distraction for the people already seated.... a bit ironic.... also if the main bar is closed the one upstairs gets packed, so when my daughter just wanted a cookie we had to wait 15 minutes for all the drink orders. I would suggest getting there early, getting everything you want and then getting a middle seat . Then its a great venue
We saw a great nat geo program in a beautiful theater!
Relaxing venue. Really nice place to see a show.
Have seen several great shows in the Newmark Theatre
Beautiful building. Comfy seating. Nice drink options. My only quibble is that the restrooms are pretty small considering the theater seating capacity. There are restrooms on multiple levels, but are all smaller than expected
Best theater. Beautiful inside and out! Love the plush seats.
Multiplex for live theater - well kept venues, very welcoming
The sound was perfect in the theater. You hear every word sung and every note of the instruments.
I used to perform there often with tears of joy theater throughout the 90s to early 2000s. It was an strange homecoming and delight to see that no tree hung but everything has changed.
Been here on multiple occasions over the last 5 or so years, all for school field trips. The place is always nice and clean, the staff are friendly, and the events we go see are always great.Only downside is parking in the Park Blocks is not fun. Get there early to grab a spot or take public transportation.
This is a lovely venue. Walls are panelled with wood, giving a warm, intimate feeling. The ushers are exceptionally polite and tolerant of people new to the venue. The lobby is spacious enough to accommodate a small jazz band, a considerable catering table, bar (which was a little hard to find) and lots and lots of politicos.
Great experience, family friendly, handicapped accessible, great volunteers and staff
Wow how neat is this place to look at go inside enjoy a play
Kids love oregon childrens theater plays
Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, and greate sound system!
I adore this venue. The memories made while backstage, and on stage for that matter were impeccable. Ill never forget.
The theatre was so inviting. The staff and volunteers were welcoming and helpful. Its an amazing place to explore with all the art and architecture. The balcony is my personal favorite, you get a good view of the stage from any level.
Its beautiful. Retired people come here for musicals and ballet
Beautiful place with the older feel. Comfortable green velvet chairs. Good views all around. ***Note if you are taking kids here, the workers are elderly so make sure to really clean up after watching a play. The staff is so nice and friendly! Just be respectful of the gorgeous place to keep it long lasting. So more generations can come.
Is really not a bad seat in the house
It is great place where you can find a good food at the art bar restaurant while you wait for your show, there are a nice art display on the entry that also is enjoyable to see while you wondering around. The theaters are realky cozy and the staff is very friendly and willing to help you find your sit.Bathroom are very clean.
Great place for smaller scale entertainment venue.
My mother and I went to see a play at the Newmark Theatre, C. S. Lewis The Most Reluctant Convert. The theatre was well signed so we had no problem finding our seat. The seats themselves were comfortable and the rows were well spaced. Snacks were slightly over priced but nat more than most movie theaters.
Love this venue! All extended family enjoys a play here around Christmas! Never have we had a bad experience,! Support your local arts, worth every penny!
Cozy and beautiful. Nice selection. Intuitive map. Spent 4 hrs.
Just saw this as part of a walking tour. Very interesting story.
Fun night with the family! Kids loved the show. They loved the big theater experience even though the theater itself was nice and small.
Beautiful building, but the play was was true delight.
Awesome time awesome place. Great show with Jim Brickman. Will see him every hes in town. Love how music.
We love coming here with school groups or as a family. I like the balconies position close to the stage. We enjoy Northwest Childrens Theater productions here immensely.
We went to see Dreams Girls in the Winningstad and had a lovely time. A couple things I liked in particular was the size and design of the theater. I believe we all felt more connected with what was happening on stage. A huge theater can make that difficult. Also, the location is close to parking and the Picnic House restaurant which I highly recommend. The only thing I would change would be to add additional service during intermission. The line grew very long.
The staff is so nice and friendly. And the building is beautiful and well kept!
Great performance! And every seat has great visibility
Portlands best sized theater for most musical and dance events. Sight lines and presence really fine
It doesnt get much better than this. Beautiful buildings. Comfortable seats. Acoustically near perfect from wherever youre seated. The venues are managed like a well oiled machine.
Nice looking place however they were out of toilet paper in the stall I was in and food and drink very expensive! They wanted $5 for a small bottle of water.
Always showing good shows in beautiful theaters
A nice venue for concerts and talks.
Comfortable seeing. Great for smaller intimate concerts and shows. Loved this place been going for years.
Weve been going to shows here for a little over a year and we love it! The shows are fun and exciting for the whole family.
Great sight lines from the seats, I am short, so this is very important to me. Ushers friendly and courteous, the opera itself was fun.
Honestly the venue is amazing and the only reason I would personally say that its 4 instead of 5 stars is that the tickets are pretty pricey. If that doesnt bother you however, then Im sure you would have a great time
Terrible customer service. When something bad happens to a customer and they reply “This is industry standard” you know you’re dealing with a special kind of low quality customer service. “Everyone else is doing it” is not a legit answer to a concern, not for a 5 year old, not for a major venue that does millions of dollars in business. Treating customers terrible isn’t even fiscally responsible. Also, this advice is just for the Portland’5, it might be good to have whoever answers questions and concerns on their social media to take a marketing class at PSU. I’m told they have some great courses there and they might be able to learn how to talk to customers with a small degree of respect. Never too late to learn some marketing 101.
Super disappointed with Portland5. We bought tickets to Alladin and found out that there will be a family reunion the night we originally bought tickets. Then was told rudely that there are no exchanges or returns despite there being literally thousands of tickets still available. Youd think Portland5 would treat people better, think again.
Nice small venue.
Kiddos loved their field trip to see Rock Paper Scissors. The building is beautiful and the staff was fantastic.
The place was cool looking when I went in I felt like I was in an old time movie about to watch a theater. But I only went to far never did buy tickets but I did explore a bit.
Oregon Ballet was fantastic. It was hot in da house though.
Unobstructed seats and great acoustics
Rock paper scissor play was great for kids! Great Casting!
Criminal Customer Service! If there would be any exceptions to the no refunds, no cancellations ticket policy, youd think the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT GROUNDING AIRPLANES carrying passengers to the city/venue would be one of them. Nope! Portland5 Centers for the Arts basically said tough luck, were keeping your money. Way to be stand up about the business youre conducting. Way to value your customers. Btw, every other organization effected by this international incident were very understanding and accommodating - go figure, they actually want people to use their services in the future. I, for one, will NEVER visit this venue run by the most unethical, unforgiving, greedy hucksters Ive ever encountered. Thanks for only compounding the disappointment of not making the trip and the concert by ripping us off! Youre despicable.
This is a nice venue with good seating!
A beautiful space with a relaxed lounge atmosphere and some great at installations.
Their box office is always slow but the staff are helpful. We were buying seats to a mostly sold out show and I needed two seats that were somewhat close together for my son and myself and she found horrible seats on the last two rows on the upper balcony but my son was able to sit directly in front of me. I just wish that I was told before purchasing that the seats werent handicapped accessible.
I attended a Childrens Theatre play here with a class of 3rd graders on a day where the ENTIRE audience consisted of school children from various schools. I was blown away at the massive organization required by the staff on hand to get each class in the theatre and seated. They were quick, efficient, friendly and professional. The play was awesome, well executed and age appropriate for our students. What a lovely experience for our troop of 9 year olds!
Great venue. We see the Portland Opera shows that are staged there. Always enjoy it.
Absolutely exceeded all my expectations. Wonderful evening.
Awesome days spent here
I saw Stephen King give a reading here. It was my first time in the area and the ushers were very helpful at directing you to where you need to go. Lots of interesting art in the lobby, too.
Fantastic venue! great staff! Wife and I will make many more plans to attend events at this venue!
Beautiful theatres of varying sizes to accommodate all types of performances. Unfortunately, snacks are typical stadium fare.
Tracy was a great guide. Had fun with my grandson, not boring.
Houses our fabulous Oregon Symphony Orchestra in a beautiful hall, wonderful theater and dance performances, mediocre but convenient bar, restaurant in house, and many good restaurants nearby.
Very nice building
Enjoyed a array of unique foods, see each of the elegantly designed floor level. THE tour experience was delightful and delicious.
Love this beautiful room
We went to see James and the Giant Peach which was great. My 4 year old enjoyed it and to my surprise, so did I.The area was clean and they had ushers for all the groups of schools coming in. Not a lot of waiting and they were very polite and organized. I even found parking right across the street and paid $4 for 2 hours (which was perfect because the show ran for 75 minutes).
What a great theatre! It was small and beautiful. I saw Beauty and the Beast, the production, set and costumes were stunning! I was really bummed to hear this will be their last year performing here.
