I think this is a great place to spend time with your family. Beautiful gardens with wide footpaths lead you over foot bridges, through the Sugar Mill ruins, right up to a real Gnome house !Keep following the path and youll find another surprise!! This was the home of Bongoland amusement park in the 50s, and a small part of it remains..you have to see it!Have fun exploring Sugar Mill Gardens with the whole family!
This very interestingThis magnificent machines were built proper back then to withstand the age of time. This place is very interesting and you must put your relaxing reading and thinking mind to see the history and beauty that it offers.Cedar logs that have been at the same spot since ages imagine that.Nice Free gateway for yourself family and friends.Did I mentioned they have the human Clock spot, the tree of awesome branches and a place you can ask or get marry at.Check it out you will enjoy the time and get your some some Honey.
We stopped by for a short visit and it was the loveliest place/- free admission, unhurried, peaceful, and amazing flora and fauna!! The old sugar mill was very interesting also! Highly recommend!! But use bug spray cause the mosquitoes love it too!! Get a map to help you on the trails!
Very enjoyable plush gardens with lots of trails. The kids loved the dinosaur s. Learned all about making sugar.
A nice place to come to relax. Wonderful nature trails, sounds of the road are not as loud as one would think. The big dinosaurs are a unique oddity to see in a city park. The plantation history is also wonderful.
We love it here! This is such a nice place. We love taking the kids there! It is a shaded place with lots of beautiful plant life! Our toddler loves the dinosaur statues and the book exchange! It is a wonderful field trip type thing we did for our pre teen also. Definitely recommend checking this place out! We will certainly be returning!
One of my very favorite places in the Daytona Area. The Historic Sugar Mill is now being very well curated. Very educational. The Dinosaur statues, library, and Grotto all add diverse charm. All set in a beautiful and well maintained garden. One of the first places to visit if you’re in Daytona. And somewhere to find yourself coming back to.
This place is like therapy! They have done so much over the last few years. I love comming for a walk, great excersize with a great view!
Really nice place to go for a walk and relax with a few trails with benches along the way to sit down and relax, have a conversation.
It has been around for a long time and I enjoy walking through the gorgeous gardens to clear my head. I love this place! Only downside is that I noticed a bit of graffiti on the landmarks. Such a shame to deface history but I will return!
Nice garden, nothing special. They do have a location for wedding ceremonies which I thought was pretty cool as well as different library stations if you went there for some alone time and wanted something to read. Lots of photo friendly spots as well. The carved dinosaurs around the garden was nice as well. If you go during rainy season make sure you put on lots and lots of bug repellent!
This spot was a sugar mill in the 1800’s when FL was a wilderness, an amusement park in the 1950’s and now a memorial garden. There is a wonderful display of the old sugar mill and the history of the Seminole battle that took place here. Then explore the gardens looking for the dinosaur statures built for the amusement park. The volunteer gardeners do a wonderful job with all the local greenery and flowers!
Was impressed with the ruins of the sugar mill and how they had been preserved and explained. In mid-Winter the rest of the gardens were fairly unimpressive with plenty of downed leaves covering everything. There was a volunteer crew there cleaning things up a bit the morning I stopped by. I can imagine that the small gardens are more impressive in warmer months with green leaves and flowers.
Such a beautiful, magical place. A hidden gem. Youll get local history, in an incredible outdoor space. Walk the trails around the property, let your imagination take flight and even purchase a plant if youd like. The Gnome Village is an extra special treat. Keep your eye out for fun painted rocks along the way. No food allowed or it would be a perfect picnic spot. Family friendly or a romantic walk. You will be sure to delight in the wonder of this special space.
This gorgeous garden is full of surprises and history. A great place to go to get away from it all! The canopy of live oaks, the ginger garden, the grotto with the fern collection, butterfly garden, and dont forget the historic ruins of the Sugar Mill.
Beautiful shining gem! This well-planned, imaginative, welcoming, and plant-packed garden is Overwhelmingly Beautiful! The paths are clear. The signage is abundant and well-placed. Everything is beautifully and sensibly curated. The sugar mill ruins are intriguing and the plaques are descriptive and interesting.Who expects DINOSAURS in a FREE garden? Magnificent!Gnomes, fairies, bubbling fountains.. bromeliads, ivy, cacti, an herb garden, Oriental garden..It was all Overwhelmingly Beautiful and obviously curated with Love and whimsy.
**RIP TREX JULY 2019*This is a lovely beautiful park. Lots of trains. Id recommend taking a picture of the map on the way in. Lots of good areas for pictures. It is woodsy and there are biting bugs.
BEAUTIFUL place to walk around and enjoy scenery! I proposed here... Just saying!
I love walking around the garden and looking at the ruins. I dont believe its a place for kids, but its a great place for peace and quiet and to think.
We love to visit this garden when we come to town. We stumbled upon it when here before looking for something new to do while on vacation. Its free to visit! They do accept donations for upkeep though if you would like to contribute. There are maps of what is in the garden available. They even have a space at the entrance that is a free library. I do recommend wearing bug spray. We love to read all the historical information included throughout the garden. The wedding chapel area is super cool. Its a beautiful garden!!
Always very well kept. I always donate, but the option to buy a plant to take him is so cool!
Beautiful, substantial gardens. Also has a lot of Pokestops.
Great place to relax and get some history.
Really a nice hour spent in this free access botanic garden. It looks like it’s coming out of the Oz movie! I recommend you take the (free) map at the entrance and see all the advertised installations. Everything is interesting and well maintained, compliments to the volunteers taking care of this piece of “art gallery” Park.
Beautiful gardens great for strolls. Would give 5 stars if they allowed responsible dog owners to bring their pets.
This is truly a little piece of heaven within a city. This is a nice, peaceful, relaxing place where you can wander through the trails, sit and relax and look at the different types of trees.Take time out to seek this little hidden gem of paradise.
My husband and I took our little kiddo here, and we had a blast! The gardens are obviously well-loved; everything was lush and green and pristine. Theres some ruins of a theme park called Bongoland here, too, and that was our sons favorite part! There are dinosaur statues made from concrete and chicken wire and they are so cool and totally worth visiting. We also found a neat little library where you take a book and leave a book. And its FREE, though donations are accepted and encouraged. I love these gardens and I will certainly be returning.
Ruins of an 1800s sugar mill, that was later a park with dinosaurs called Bongoland and is now a garden with trails. Well worth the visit.
It beautiful here, but it just kinda sucks for the people who climb the historical parts and make there markings.
Great place to go for quiet and to learn a little about history. There are paths that go through a forested area too. The paths are made from sea shells. Everything is free - to visit and park. There is a donation box when you enter. The bathrooms are nice and not a porta potty.
Love this place have bought honey thereGo often
Absolutely stunning place !! If you happen to be interested he area and are looking for an amazing place to get out into nature this is the place ! They have tons of beautiful plants and trees dripping with Spanish moss ! Hands down just a beautiful place to visit !! And it’s free !!
Very interesting place and the kids loved the dinosaurs and the chapel and the gnome home. I loved that all the plants had their names on them. And information about the sugar mill
What a lovely morning walking among beautiful and unusual flowers! We really enjoyed it. The bromilaid blooms were awesome! The only issue is removing invasive species should be a priority. Also, PLEASE dont sell those same invasive plants to the public!
The gardens are amazing. The Sugar Mill history and artifacts very interesting. Thank you to the Rose Garden Volunteer from Bellefontaine for recommending The Hub and Corkscrew. Thoroughly enjoyed both. Go Bucks! Thank you Carl and Betina
Super cool place really well kept. With dinosaurs
This is one of my childrens favorite places to go! We pretend there are real dinosaurs when we follow the trails. Its such a beautiful place! Occasionally you can find a turtle near the cacti and an owl at the entrance to the trail near the triceratops.
Great place! Free and relaxing. Sugar mill ruins are the reason of our visit but thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful gardens and even the bongoland dinosaurs were fun. It exists because of many volunteers which is awesome. Thanks volunteers for sharing your skills with all.
We just loved it the kids really do. Its a great place to just get away. Its a good place to go when u just want to spend time with the kids and the people are so friendly also. I just love this place I wish I could camp their lol.
Great little walk trail through woodsy area. Its volunteer so..kinda overgrown a bit..but still really nice. Dinosaur statues for kids to see and enjoy. Remnants of the old sugar Mill and history plaques to read. Nice quick stop...great shady exercise walk. Not too big. Aunt Catfishs is nearby..great food and lunch specials..beach just over the causeway.
A beautiful garden fin fit the whole family. Take bug spray and a camera.
Walked is on a cool day. So peaceful and beautiful. Great place to go walk, take pictures, relax and read a book, I would love to see a donation of updated bathrooms. Cool dinosaur statues. Well kept garden. Loved it.
Beautiful gardens. Loved this place
Such a neat place. Loved the history and gardens. So cool to see the dinosaur statues. A very unexpected surprise.
Really beautiful place with large trees and a lot of Spanish moss. There are some dinosaur statues that kids would like. The Mill is good for educational purposes.
My husband Christopher and I just visited here April 2020, its such a beautiful place. We were married here 25 years ago, although it has changes going on, it was full of happy memories for us, we stood in the same place we took our vows.. it was a wonderful surprise for me when he said lets go back! I recommend just going to see this part of History The Sugar Old Mill,.as for usWe have our own history here
Beautiful area, nice walking trails with plenty of shade. Also great for rock hunting or hiding.
Its beautiful and fun. Loved all the different plants and dinosaur statues.
Nice place would like to go back in the spring. I found out of all the places Ive been so for Daytona Beach, Florida has been the best. Nice people relaxed atmosphere.
Put them on your list of weird Florida list of things to do on a tankful.Free fun. These gardens are a hidden local treasure with many different vignettes carefully manicured by volunteers centering around the sugar mill ruins, which are a sight to see in and of themselves. We spent half a day here having fun. Theres also cuttings and small plants for sale on donation and one of those littlefreelibarys so bring your extra books to donate.
Peaceful oasis in the middle of insane Daytona. A great place for a quiet nature walk that includes a few history lessons - a failed sugar mill and a failed amusement park. The highlight of the visit were the spectacular oak trees.
Just visited this lovely gem of a park today, It is a great way spend a few hours in the fresh air. We visited hunting for painted rocks, which we did get lucky, its basically the analog version Pokemon. Their is a ruin of a old sugar mill surrounded by trails with a wide selection of plants to look at. It is a donation based entry which makes for a low cost way to spend some time.
Nice place to walk around for a few hours and learn a little bit about nature. Loved the gnome garden!
I like the calm feeling this place has. The history here helps one realize that all things must pass.
Awe inspiring experience. Lots to see in a setting in the city, but the feel of peaceful quieted. Time stands still!
These gardens are amazing any time of year. Excellent place for kids. Peaceful and calm.
Botanical gardens with Florida native species highlighted. Ruins of a sugar mill. Weird massive-sized dinosaurs statues mixed in among the plants.
Sweet botanical Gardens with some of the most amazing southern trees !
Great history to learn from early 1800s. Tons of walking paths with plenty of plant living.
Beautiful place! They even had a nice wedding going on while I was there. Perfect place to walk and enjoy nature.
A blending of eras in this beautiful garden. Once the site of one of the many sugar plantations that dot the state from pre civil war Florida, the Dunlawton Plantation was destroyed in the 2nd Seminole War - the remains of the sugar mill have been preserved with a roofed enclosure and many explanatory plaques surround the ruins. Attempts were made to turn the old mill area into a tourist attraction, in the 1950s a dinosaur themed park was created, with 4 of the delightfully goofy prehistoric animals preserved to this day. Walking the garden paths and the nature trail make the park seem much larger, and the shade from the ancient oaks make it a good place to walk and relax even in the heat of Floridas summer.
Love sugar mills! We come every year when we visit.
Great place, just on the smaller side! I went 3rd weekend of Feb. and it was fairly busy, but not to the point of being upsurd bye no means.
Its not manicured that well but its an excellent place with super cool plants that give great air quality. Too many screaming kids sometimes, so if you arent a fan, go early during the weekday. I love introducing people to this place. If you like this park, they have a donation area, so you can support them.
Beautiful place to visit! The ruins of the sugar factory are fascinating!
Very nice place for relaxing and saw the nature. Sufficient one hour to see this place. Very interesting the ruins of sugars plantation and mill
Quiet, peaceful gardens. Some mosquitoes so might want to bring bug repellent.
Really nice little park, easy walk throughout the grounds. Very well maintained!
Absolutely gorgeous place, lots of old Florida beauty. Loved the historical aspect too, lots to see and learn.
Beautiful place. Definitely worth visiting if you enjoy nature.
Fun place to go walk around for free. Its right in the community but gives you a non Daytona area feeling. Try it out if youre wanting some fresh air. Bring bug spray.
Always a lovely place to explore! The gardens are gorgeous!
What a great place to take the kids for a walk where they can learn and explore! My kids enjoyed taking the map and leading the way to find all of the dinosaur statues throughout the gardens as well as checking out all of the old ruins from where the Sugar Mill once stood. Just keep in mind that no pets or food are permitted. ;)
Nice little place! We probably went on the most HUMID day ever though. History of the place is very interesting!
History is always good. Nice place to take a few hours and check out, learn something about the area.
Beautiful Gardens. Very peaceful and relaxing!
Beautiful walk and tons of different types of plants....plus .. dinosaurs!!!
Beautiful walking paths. Free library. Lots of shade for walking on a hot day. Dinosaurs. Butterfly garden. Human sundial
Beautiful natural gardens. Delighted to find some Volusia painted rocks to hide/relocate too.
Stunning. We had such a good time. The kids loved the dinosaurs. What a wonderful way to spend the afternoon. A must see for the whole family.
Peaceful, small Botanical Garden to commune with nature and get a little lesson in the areas early history as well.
Its a great place to walk around to see nature. The committee and volunteers have done a tremendous job in planting all types of flora and fauna. Also, interesting artifacts from the actual sugar mill were left in place for everyone to see and there is a HUGE Confederate oak located on the grounds. The land is flat and easily navagitable. It appears to be child-friendly as we saw several mothers with small children on the paths.
An excellent experience in a natural setting. Very well groomed grounds. Vegetation is beautiful. Interesting butterflies and birds. Well worth the drive.
This is a hidden gem in the middle of Port Orange, 10 acre botanical garden wonderful walking paths and don’t forget to look for the dinosaurs. Also visit the remains of 19th century sugar factory. Restrooms on site and is wheel chair accessible.
Wonderful Old Florida experience!!
Beautiful, and gorgeous. I enjoy every second that Im there. You wont regret going. One of my favorite local places of all time!!
Nice little place to see some history and enjoy lush gardens of all sorts. Theres a little lending library right at the front and some maps and info available right next to it. There are also large dinosaurs statues throughout the park. I enjoyed in the summer and cant wait to check it out once the temperature drops a bit.
Very nice. I applaud the efforts of the gardeners who volunteer their time to keep the gardens looking so good. Loved the diversity of plants.
This place is peaceful and beautiful. Some historic information, beautiful flowers and trees, and dinosaur statues.
Beautiful peaceful place to visit. Plus its free
For a relaxing, quiet afternoon....
Nice, quiet walk with lots of different flowers and plants.
Pretty place to visit good for a casual day
