I came here looking to follow my passions of science and technology, and I got WAY more than I bargained for!First off, Admission to the telephone museum is Only $10 a head, and that includes admission to ACRES of both Preserved and model historical properties, from the original Arizona Politicians to the cowboys and roughnecks of the west. The property is HUGE, and quite informative and houses many beautiful and interesting historical artifacts, Most Museums Ive visited are limited to a confined space so this was a Treat!Secondly; the Telephone museum its self is INCREDIBLY well done, there are multiple interactive displays that house GENUINE phone switching equipment, as well as cut-aways to allow you and the family to Watch the mechanical wonder of early telephone! Furthermore, they have one of the first Video-call conferencing devices, a whole COLLECTION of early handcrafted insulators and devices and a Wonderful Master of the Arts who previously worked in the Telecommunications industry! If youre passionate about history, or even curious and youre in the Phoenix metro area, I would DEFINITELY recommend supporting this place with a visit.Lastly, Im not sure if it was a clearance thing or if its always $5 but I scored an AWESOME, Entertaining and educational book regarding the history of Mountain Bell (I can not find it listed on Amazon or online). At first I thought it would be purely nonfictional chronological history, but I Must say the author did a fantastic job encompassing attitudes of the day, explaining historical figures roles in a way Ive not seen before, as well as explaining how women were an Essential part of transforming the telecom industry into a global powerhouse.Big thumbs up from me, but Im sort of a geek, so Id encourage you to visit and make up your own mind!
What a great little nugget in an unexpected place! We were the only ones in the museum at that time. The gentleman that gave the tour was a retired Bell employee, and he knew his stuff. He was full of interesting facts and knowledge that youre not going to find anywhere else. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed this unplanned stop. Highly recommend it if youre in the area.
Completely fascinating. Don’t miss the 15 minute guided tour, if you get the chance.Worth the trip!
