Hall of Flame is a wonderful museum full of history and well, fire trucks! Ive taken my son here for about 3 years now and every time we go its a fun experience. The museum looks small from the outside but its packed wall to wall and literally floor to ceiling with fire fighting paraphernalia and vehicles. The museum is large enough to make social distancing easy, with many different rooms showcasing different aspects of more than just fire fighting. The displays are well thought out and every time weve gone weve seen something we hadnt seen before.Hall of Flame also has interactive displays here and there, where kids can use imaginative play to not only play but to learn. The gift shop offers a selection of toys, shirts, and odds and ends for the lover of all things flame retardant (haha I couldnt help myself) and theres even a huge bell outside you can ring because, why not?I recommend anyone with an interest in first responders go to Hall of Flame Fire Museum and enjoy yourself! 10+ stars, I know well be back soon!
An absolutely massive collection of fire apparatus and.... some other stuff. First, the big deal, this is the largest collection of fire apparatus in the world with pieces dating from the 1700s to the 2000s. Most is from the US, with a smattering from other places. There are also other items such as tools, uniforms, helmets, and models. On the other hand, they have made some curatorial decisions that I disagree with. The exhibits are nearly all static and very few items can be touched or interacted with. Information on the exhibits can be accessed through an app or by borrowing a binder from the front desk, but there are few signs actually with the exhibits that explain them. I feel like this is a missed opportunity to not only show the equipment, but also explain how it is used and give a better understanding of what it is to be a firefighter.
Very nice museum with about 100 fire apparatus, from walking to trucks. Oldest is from 1726. All in great restored condition. Most if not all look better than day they were delivered to the fire Department.Honor hall for fire fighters lost in line of duty. History of Smoke jumpers. My Dad enjoyed it. He is a former Portland, Oregon firefighter.
Quite a display! The trucks are fascinating. We enjoyed looking at the badges and were excited to see our hometowns on display.
Terrific and unexpected find in Phoenix. Interesting and informative for all ages, with welcoming staff. Highly recommended.
Very interesting display of fire trucks and equipment dating back to pre 19th century and excellent tributes to heroes of firefighting including those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Well worth the time and entry fee.
It was a very interesting place. SO much history from behind the scenes. I have a GREAT respect for the fireman who serve the community.
Fantastic! Tons of things to see and the exhibits are nicely arranged within the space. The guys working while we were there were very nice and would chime in with fun facts and tidbits.
Largest fire truck museum in the world, has all sorts of trucks, badges, memorabilia, equipment, etc. They have more trucks than they have space for. So new ones are rotated in all the time. Worth a trip with the family or individually.
Wonderful museum. Much larger than you would think from looking at the outside. Fire engines and equipment going back over 200 years
Awesome walk through the history of firefighting and the advancement of fire apparatus.
Really cool old timey fire trucks. It would take a couple hours to really look at and read everything. wish they gave guided tours.
Staff was awesome very knowledgeable one place to make sure you visit.
Just awesome. There are firefighting apparatuses from around the world. The condition of it all is quite amazing for how old some of it is. The cost to get in is well worth it. The tributes to all the lost firefighters adds that special touch.
My family brought my brother and here when we were younger. Today, I brought my wife for the first time.It is just as great for kids as it is for adults. Lots of history and many exhibits to look at. Besides the fire engines, there are fire markers dating back to the late 1700s, exhibits on firefighting gear and firefighters. Two short movies play in different areas allowing a chance to sit down and rest. It isnt a large area, but looking at and reading each display will take timeIn the last area is a live system for hearing dispatch calls live. My wife and stepped and heard dispatch to our area of town. It was fascinating. They have a dizzying collection of patches and it was fun to look for areas we are familiar with.Overall, the Hall of Flame is definitely a museum you should visit.
I loved seeing the old fire trucks. Also great exhibit about CDF and wildland firefighters.
We ended up going here [2 grandparents, 2 parents and 3 kids] because it was the only one open at a convenient time for us. Boy were we astonished! Five giant rooms of fire trucks, some 300 years old, all beautifully restored. Also a detailed guidebook explained each one. Plus a small theater rain a video about the museums foundation. The kids loved it! A large fire truck to climb on/in, firefighter clothes and hats to try on, all sorts of firefighter toys to play with in the kids area. Plus docents around to explain everything and give demonstrations. We could have spent all day there.
This place is fantastic! Well organized and have a great area for children. All the fire equipment is amazing! Totally restored and immaculately maintained. I would go back. Highly recommend it for anyone visiting the Phoenix area.
An amazing collection of fire fighter memorabilia. Much of it restored with intense detail. The gentlemen in the front are a wealth of knowledge and the binders really help to learn some interesting stories about the equipment. Also, the firefighter database they have its really nice. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time here otherwise you will surely miss something really cool.
So much fire history under one roof, great displays and lots of information. It is very affordable and worth checking out. It is self guided tour which is nice so you can go at your own pace.
So neat to see all these old firetrucks.
Being an ex firefighter this place was amazing every type of engine, to pumper and ladder, as well as helmets patches and equipment and a place for kids. The gifts in the gift shop I thought were very fairly priced as well I will be back
Incredible history preserved in wonderful visuals. Great for kids. The 9-11 tribute area moved me to tears. Not one to go through in one visit. We will make more treks here in the future.
We went on a weekday and had a very pleasant visit. The person at the front desk was very friendly. Most of the exhibits were old fire trucks (and there were so many) but there were also tools and other equipment on display, as well as badges and a few uniforms. There were displays to honor fallen firefighters as well. My 10 year old and 5 year old seemed to have a good time. There was a fire truck that they could step up into and sit behind the wheel, so they loved that. There was an old control center from the 70s with a placard that stated you could hear actual calls coming through the city center (not recordings)--we heard something but it didnt really sound like much. There was a section that looked like rooms in a house and it showed various dangerous conditions that we should remember/look out for. There were also a few interactive displays that you could push buttons on. We had a nice time. I was a little hesistant to go as I had read reviews about how the customer service was, but I felt really comfortable ( I noticed that one of the reviewers seemed to be Muslim like me and I wear hijab and the two workers (or maybe volunteers,) we encountered were very friendly towards me/my family unlike the reviewers experience). The only thing that I think would have made the visit better was if each display had a placard (or even just a paper print out)of each display. They had binders that you could take around that explained each display I guess, but we didnt really want to carry it around.
This is a great History museum for every kinds of people.
My wife and I visited the Hall of Flame a few weeks ago and although we had heard how nice the museum is, we were amazed at the amount of detailed history of the fire service we saw. When we got out of our car we were greeted by the museum supervisor. The staff was overly cheerful and welcoming.I was a fireman and appreciated seeing the engines, trucks, equipment and methods that were in use during the time I was involved in the fire service. This place has something to offer everyone even if you have no direct connection to firefighting. The Hall of Flame is a super educational experience. We spent 4 hours touring the exhibits and have already talked about returning for another visit someday. The gift shop is filled with items to take with you to remember the day.
This museum is a gem! Our toddler was in heaven with the countless firetrucks he could look at, as well as the children’s play area in the back. We will definitely be back next time we’re in the Phoenix area!
Certainly worth the stop if youre a fan of the fire service. They claim to have the largest collection of fire apparatus of any fire museum, and I certainly wont argue with that! We spent nearly 3 hours going from display to display.
This is an AMAZING experience for everyone in the family! Little kids and parents all can find something fun and educational to do :)
I love it! The only con I see here is the height of the sinks. Other than that its awesome.
Amazing. It was incredible and so much larger than I expected.
Very kids friendly!!! My children enjoyed the experience and the items are very well preserved!!! Well be back again.
So fun for all ages. Lots to see and do.
Enjoyed our walk around the museum. Would have been better if we could have taken our time to read all the information, but we have small children and felt rushed. There are a few kids activities and kids do enjoy it. Really cool displays and arm patches! I found a typo on one of the information sheets!
My kids had fun but it is more for adults. There is a couple of kids zones but it is a museum. Overall Awesome. Lots to see and learn.
There was so much more to see than I expected! We learned so much spending the afternoon at Hall of Flame. it was really well laid out and they had guide books you could take with you that explained every piece of machinery out on the floor. I especially loved all the patches that lined the walls and the book helping you locate your hometown!
I took my 3 year old son to the museum for an afternoon activity. We spent about 1.5 hours making our way through the various exhibits. I found myself having to remind my son that the big shinny trucks arent meant to be touched or ridden which he found to be frustrating at times. This is to be expected with museums and young children. Thankfully partway through there was a hands-on experience available for him to try on mock fire fighters gear, climb onto a real fire engine and sit behind the wheel. At every glance I found interesting facts and showcases of historical equipment and vehicles. The center did a great job of giving a heros tribute to the generations of rescue workers as well. I found the best part of the visit to be towards the end where we found a life size (1 bedroom) house that exemplifies the daily fire hazards found in the average home. This was a great opportunity to teach my son about fire safety. The best part for him was the firemen poll and miniature fire truck where he was able to burn off some bottled up energy. The gentleman in charge of the museum was amazing in his own right. He was incredibly friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. Altogether I would definitely recommend this local attraction to anyone.
A great local museum. Well worth the visit!
A huge and beautiful collection of hand-drawn, horse-drawn and motorized fire apparatus from around the country, even a few international pieces. Allow a couple hours to take it all in.
Had a great visit. This was truly a surprise. Very well organized with lots of information provided on displays. I had no idea the museum was that big. Well worth the admission. A hidden gem of Phoenix!!
Fantastic! And the guys working there really know the history of every piece of equipment. Must see for Phoenix!!
We actually had a little trouble finding this place but so glad we came. Believe it or not it really has some interesting things. I also love how they have a section for the firefighters that were lost in 9/11. It is definitely a collection of a lot of memorabilia, we were given a binder in the front desk that gives you a lot of information. They do have a little kids section for them to play around in. Since it was empty, Im going to be honest I took advantage of it lol. But the the little helmets were too small. There were two gentlemen in the front, yes one is much more approachable than the other but seriously dont let that stop you from enjoying this museum, its worth it and especially what some good human beings have sacrificed for others.
Great place to bring your kids for some fun and learning at the same time.
We have some new fire trucks om the floor now. Its a good place for the family. We have a fire truck for the kids to play on also birthday parties are available.
The worlds largest firefighting museum. Great trucks and apparatus of the past. A must place to visit.
Awesome place. Make the time and effort to GO HERE. Lots of equipment to see and admire. Loved all of it.
Way cool place. Very informative. Super friendly staff and knowledgeable!!! Great to see where we started to where were at.
The staff was great. The amount of information and equipment on display was amazing. If you were/are fire or just interested in fire youll definitely enjoy visiting!
What a great way to spend the afternoon in Tempe.
What an extensive collection of fire fighting equipment! Beautifully restored. Cant wait to bring my other grandkids to see!!
Its the largest fire museum I have ever seen. So much history there. From one of the first fire wagons made to what we have now. It has an interactive kids play area that our 4 yr old loved. Also a brick floor where people have made customized designs in memory of there loved ones lost to fire. A really neat hero wall with there stories about the lives they have saved. Affordable and over all a really neat thing to see if you think about being in a burning building and one those wagons being pulled up by men or horses.
Took Father-in-law who’s a firefighter, so much to look at. Mammoth amount of equipment that dates quite a ways back. Would highly recommend
Took guided tour, very interesting. I liked it a lot! Lots to see from Trucks around country. I recommend!
Very cool to see all the old apparatus and equipment.
Good for multiple visits.
It costs to get in, and its just room upon room of fire engines(present day and old). They give you a binder with info on each engine, but I didnt like having to flip through to read about each engine. I wish theyd just had plaques up that you could skim over, as well as more than just engines.
We had such an exceptional experience here. The two veteran fire fighters helped make our experience extraordinary. These veterans work here. My heart was touched they honor the fallen fire fighters and the hero fire fighters including paramedics. This place has been established in the valley since the 50’s. I will now consider this one of our valley treasures. It is definitely worth the $10 admission. Thank our God there are people who give their time resources and treasure to make this spectacular venue possible. My favorite story is why our fire trucks are decorated so elaborately: it is because of the friendly competition between the teams. Just add a little competition (it is welcome in all venues: to make it better).
Fire trucks from early US history through present. Very neat, well laid out and enjoyable. Excellent for little prospective firefighters.
Took my son to see this and he had a blast
Awesome history of fire fighters and what they used. Great place for the family, even my teenagers had a blast going.
Amazing place worth every second.
Great museum, friendly and informative staff ! A must do !
Largest fire equipment (from many states & countries) museum in the country/world. All are beautifully restored. My only issue was that the descriptions are in a book that you have to carry around with you. A must see.
Lots of great history pieces and everything kept in excellent condition. Staff are friendly. They have a kids section but could do to expand it
Great place full of world wide fire history! There are antique fire fighting devices from like 1800s. Theres a cute gift shop. My little guy loved being able to climb in a fire truck in Gallery 2. He also really enjoyed the safety house in the other gallery.
Wonderful museum with friendly staff and very nice gift shop. I recommend this museum to everyone.
Everyone should go, great history experience.
Great place for kids family and fire fighters. There is alot it can teach. The equipment comes all over the world and my favorite was the Japanese pump from the Endo era!
Pleasantly surprised with this local museum! Visited with my family who were in from out of state, and we were looking for interesting museum-type activities. Caveats for those who like to keep their museum-going experiences brief: this place is HUGE, it really is the worlds largest museum dedicated to firefighting, and face it, fire trucks are sorta big... Also, to really enjoy the displays, you need to READ the info on each from a book you get to carry with you while youre there. This isnt everyones cup of tea, but theres a lot of history contained within. Staffed by knowledgeable former firefighters, who might just demonstrate some equipment for you if you ask.
This place is awesome my sons sent crazy they love all the fire trucks, as for I love all the history they put into so much detail and stuff to read.
Stopped by here for the first time during a stay-cation. Impressive collection of older and newer restored fire trucks from USA, Canada, Europe and Japan going way back to the early 1800s. The rooms with the various collection are in date order BTW. Also have memorials to the fallen firefighters and bits of history are all over the walls through various pictures, paintings and framed memorabilia. The one that got to me was a restored FDNY truck from 9-11. I got chills standing next to it. A large place to say the least. You wont be disappointed and will be impressed.
Has tons of vintage firefighting equipment. Staff is knowledge about all of it. Its nice to go at your own pace see everything you want.
They have a great collection of fire trucks and men and horse drawn equipment. Great place.

Went on a field trip for school. Great place tons of history here. Would definently go again.
Curated with love, lots of really interesting pieces, gives a great perspective to the scope and breadth of the profession and how it has changed and stayed the same.
Very informative with an extensive collection of pumps, memorabilia, and vehicles.
Very cool but Id suggest skipping taking small children.
An awesome place to see and learn history of the firefighters, theirs machines, equipment, aallll...
Amazing connection. Well worth your time.
Great place to visit
Great museum to go to with tons to look at. Great gift shop that you could either go straight to without having to do the tour or at the end of the tour
I took a group and they are still excited and want to go again. Still talking about their day!
Very interesting museum, the collection is vast and they have a little bit of everything.
Very interesting museum... Extremely friendly and helpful staff...
I would love to bring my son back here. Its really small and straight forward. Its great for learning historical information and there are some interactive items as well. The children cannot touch or climb on most of the models but there are things for them to touch or climb on. My son really liked it. He spent a lot of time in the kids area and taking it all in. I suggest you plan your visit based on the fact that this is a historical museum.
Very impressive display, videos about the origin of the museum and on smoke jumpers. Uniform Patches from all over the world. Plan on spending a couple of hours on your feet walking through the museum. Really worth the price of admission.
There is a lot of history here. My family enjoyed all the trucks on site. My son enjoyed the hands on play area as well. The men who were there had a lot of information to share.
Wonderful museum! So rich with Firefighter history! Being an Wildland Firefighter, just seeing and touching the Granite Mountain Hotshot buggy was moving for me. The section for Wildland Firefighting was very well done! I do higley recommend this place for those who love history and are volunteer, professional, current, or ex Firefighters!
The largest, most comprehensive firefighting museum Ive ever seen. Allow at least 4 hrs to see and appreciate all the work that has gone into restoring and maintaining the apparatus. Amazing collection, exquisitely restored and presented with explanation placards. Huge Dept patch collection. $7 admission. Staffed by volunteers who will lend you a guide binder explaining the artifacts. Nice gift shop, the only place where a mini version of painted pony shown below can be bought new, 1 of 343. Worth the trip, located on East Van Buren at the SRP turnout. Lots of parking free.
