This museum is located 6 miles from city center and overlooks the beautiful skyline of Philadelphia. Here liberated slaves arrived under cover of night arrived despite great danger to find safe haven in the Belmont Mansions attic enroute the freedom. The exhibits were primarily recorded testimonials of slaves reflections during their times living in slavery. The main house focuses more on the abolitionists efforts and the role of the Peters family and the use of their property for the Underground Railroad. I hope the museum will continue to improve w funding for expansion and upkeep. I only wished there were personal tours rather than self guided ones.

Very nice restored mansion, lots of informative exhibits. I was especially impacted by the many stories related by people who actually lived through slavery. The staff was also very nice and personable! Theres also a beautiful view of the Philly skyline right outside. You should check it out!

We did not schedule a tour (which you definitely should do!!) But they still let us look around since it was our last day in the city. Wheel chair friendly which is rare for historical spaces, and very friendly staff. Also it has an amazing view of the city on hill adjacent.

Don’t go here. They probably aren’t open. They weren’t open at 2:00 on a Thursday even though their phone message and Google entry says they are. We rode 30 minutes on the bus and walked half a mile in the sun in 95 degree weather, only to find the gates closed. Disappointed we wasted half a day of our two days in Philly on this, not to mention the lost opportunity to learn about the Underground Railroad.

Exquisite views of the city - and a great history lesson too. Beautiful architecture, the best of its time that is left for us to appreciate. Worth a visit and donation.

Went there at 3:30p hoping to get experience it while I was visiting Philadelphia and the gates were locked. I went on a day where they were supposed to be open til 5p and when I tried to call no one answered the phone, kept getting voicemail which was full. Me and my friend wasted time and money catching a Lyft out there for nothing. Very disappointing experience and had to request my money back for the Groupon for the visit.

This is a quaint little museum but you can spend hours here reading various stories. My father and I both learned a lot about slavery and the underground railroad on our visit.
