We were thrilled to book our Daughter’s Sweet 16 Birthday Party on the Rooftop of this Museum after seeing how beautiful this event space was. Absolutely stunning view of the Delaware River at night! Our Host Lawrence ensured us that we would not be disappointed, and he was certainly right! Thank you Lawrence for helping us plan every step of the way! The quality of service you provided our party with was impeccable!

Visited in 2006 and really loved all of it. The Olympia has always stayed in my mind as an amazing transitional ship. Id visited so many WW2 ships over the years, as well as sailing ships and to see a vessel so obviously between the two in the technological shift was fascinating. She is a one-of-a-kind treasure. I also really enjoyed the shipyard diorama inside the museum and spent a lot of time studying it. Well worth a visit---I was down from New York.

Very interesting to see, socially the submarine. We went in the winter so not mangy people, actually we were the only ones, so we were able to take out time and enjoy. Did not know that subs have multiple floors, although we had access to only one we were able to see all the important parts. The submarine is not recommended for people with disability since its hard to move from section to section

Museum is divided in two parts, main building and a ship & a submarine. Ship and submarine are quite fun for all ages. They are filled with historically accurate memorabilia. Main building has many exhibits, among them is one about slave trade and also another about the national debate about creation of US navy in the early days of the US. All in all it is good fun.

My Wife, kid and I had a blast here. The museum it self has a lot of really cool displays and PLENTY of hands on activities for the kids. You can even watch people working on building a boat while you are there. The ship and the submarine were amazing. We have toured more modern aircraft carries and battleships, so it was great to take a step back in time and see what was used at the turn of the 19th century! I recommend you do not miss this stop!

A little expensive for a smaller museum however tickets include admission to the USS Bucuna (submarine) and the USS Olympia (know as one of the first US warships that brought the US to the world stage during the Mexican American war and deciding factor at the battle of Manila. Kids enjoyed the museum. Has a fully functioning boat workshop. Consider trying to find on street parking on front st. Or market st. Crossover. Much cheaper then the garage.

This is a two part attraction. First, it is 2 cool ships - a cutter and a submarine to explore. then 2 blocks away is a museum. It is a bit disjointed going from one exhibit to another, but has a few cool exhibits. Brought 2 kids, one was bored but the other could have spend more than the 2 hours we were there.

Excellent museum experience. The boat, submarine and museum collectively are a fascinating insight into America’s maritime past.I would emphasize that neither the boat or submarine are suitable for people with any kind of mobility issues. If you are even slightly claustrophobic steer clear of the submarine.

Admiral’s Tavern, the most historic ship in Philadelphia, has been one of my sister and her (now) fiances favorite spots since they moved to Philadelphia, frequenting their floating beer garden on the weekends since 2017, and they just got engaged here this summer! The staff there couldn’t have been any sweeter in helping arrange the proposal surprise with a stunning Ben Franklin Bridge backdrop.

The museum exhibits cover a great deal of ground from a timeline perspective. I really enjoyed the focus on ship building. When I visited there was a special exhibit on tattoos. Looks like they have a decent sized area that rotates regularly. The ships are amazing. I cant recommend the Olympia and Becuna tour enough. Its self guided and gives you all the time you need to take in the experience.

Lots of hands on activities in the museum itself which my 3 year old enjoyed. However, it was a very hot day and we were already feeling the effects of the heat by the time we walked to the Olympia (which isnt immediately beside the museum). It was even warmer on the ship itself and it was also very difficult to navigate some of the narrow, open stairs with a toddler and while holding a baby. If you are bringing a baby, I recommend using a sling or backpack carrier-- youll want to have your hands free, especially if you need to help a slightly older child! Definitely worth a visit, but try to pick a cooler day.

I brought my kids (ages 4-9 years old) and spent a nice afternoon on a cold day. Getting to tour WWI ship and WWII submarine was amazing and a huge highlight. The museum was very interesting for me, but I think my kids were too young to appreciate it fully, or else they have not yet developed relevant interests (colonial-era seacraft). My kids loved the rover that you can pilot in the lobby though.

I went to see their new exhibit, River Alive, somewhat reluctantly as museums are not usually top on my list of things to do. I now have to re-think that bias because River Alive is a FANTASTIC exhibit and making my way through it was a FANTASTIC experience. It is incredibly interactive, creative, informative, and interesting. We went during a slow time and got an impromptu guided tour from Mayci, who was terrific! If you have kids - this is a MUST DO. If you dont have kids, go anyway. I love Philadelphia because there is so much to do. Move River Alive at the Independence Seaport Museum to the top of you to do list!

We were pleasantly surprised by this! We wandered along the front from the bus stop at Penn’s Landing, and all had a blast. My kids (8 and 4) were both super engaged with the displays inside (especially the sailing ship replica that kids can play on), and I thought the Barbary history was fascinating. All of us enjoyed the submarine and ship walk-throughs, and it was pretty hilarious to watch my very tall husband get through the submarine doorways.
