Came here on a Wednesday night. We pretty much had a private jazz performance to ourselves. The music was pretty decent. I could tell that the bass player had never played with the band before but he actually did pretty well. After all, jazz is all improvised, so why would that matter?I got the shrimp and grits. While the portion was small, it tasted like the shrimp and grits I get in the south.Overall, this place is kind of a gem. Id definitely come back!
Good covid system. Its closed now bc of covid rise in Philly. Great musicians when I went.
I went with a female acquaintance. She absolutely loved the duck. Orrin Evans and company performed. One pays $70 per person for a three course meal and show. I was happy to see it open again. Its a great ambience.
Normally I don’t care about a $ 5 refill on sodas, Obviously the restaurant must make a living: . Yes, ok, ok... BUT. My dad and I both got sick post meal. I’m compassionate but we spent a dime and by the time I waited for the car I wanted to be home....NOW. Band was amazing, as usual. We will be back, but please don’t make us sick. Eeek!
Loved it food is always good very consistent, great service.Excellent music, Danielle and her guys are the best. Every nice contemporary twist to great standards.
Was there for lunch. Ordered Ella Fitzgerald. Sandwich was delicious. Service was great. Have lunch specials and discounts wine and beer.
Down Beat magazine named Chris’ Jazz Cafe one of the “100 Great Venues Around the World to Hear Jazz.” The intimate lounge/restaurant serving Southern-style cuisine lives up to its billing, with live jazz almost every night. Experience Southern hospitality and food at Warmdaddy’s, not to mention jazz, blues, and R&B music. There’s live entertainment every night—from nationally known artists to rising stars and including a comedy night and open jam session.Other standouts include Time Restaurant with live jazz, funk, and soul nightly in a posh sixty-seat dining room with a bar; weekend jazz at Paris Wine Bar, a charming French-inspired bistro owned by longtime Philadelphia restaurateurs Terry Berch McNally and Chef Michael McNally; Heritage, a hip, homey jazz bar with several dozen beers on draft; and South, a newbie serving Southern fare and owned by the Bynum Brothers, who are experts in both dining and jazz.
Chris’ has great atmosphere, outstanding performers, and excellent food! I’ve been there several times during the year, and also for New Year’s Eve. Highly recommend !!
My husband and I had an amazing evening here last night. We made a reservation 2 weeks ahead of time at a premier table... very happy we did this, as our seats were amazing. We were able to see each musician in the jazz quarter up close and personal. The music was phenomenal, service was amazing (thank you Jordan!), and food was perfect. We cant wait to come back.
Right off Ill tell you there is a $25 cover charge and the menu is pricey. For 3 of us it was well over $200 + tips and parking and we did not order any alcoholic beverages. The atmosphere is intimate and cozy with candles and low lighting (see pics). Tables are very close so your conversation wont necessarily be private, so strike up a warm conversation with your neighbor! We did!The food! One bite and you close your eyes and slowly roll your head backwards. We ordered 2 shrimp and grits and 1 jambalaya... The 3 giant shrimp were a perfect accent to the grits (which was no big deal in itself). The jambalaya was a little spicy, but just enough heat to keep you from gulping water after each bite. Delicious!Joanna Pascale sang that evening. We loved her personality as much as her voice which was melodious and captivating. Her group jazzed up popular songs that varied from Oscar Hammerstein to Stevie Wonder. Ms Pascale gave little summaries of why she loved to sing them and some brief history. She even had us (audience) singing with her at one point. All in all it was a delightful evening.
Great! The duck was absolutely delicious!! The band was awesome and the staff were very friendly!!
The lady and I attended their Valentine’s Day event yesterday (Friday Feb 14, 2020). With much anticipation we bought tickets ($35/pp) and planned to enjoy each other’s company. No dinner, maybe drinks. They have a late night menu which I thought about fries but found out they only had their V-Day Menu. That’s perfectly fine, but that was just the first of the issues. My girlfriend ordered a drink only to have the waiter to return with a “we’re out” response. (This was after the 10 minute wait for water, glasses). We skipped the menu and finally ordered something to drink. The entertainer for the evening got started around 11:30 (our entry was 11:00).Our waiter wasn’t very attentive and the only requests we had (to see a dessert menu/desserts) and additional water was easily forgotten. The bill came with an explanation that not only was their card system down but they had to manually record your card information. And will “bill us later.” I don’t cause much fuss. It was $17 in total. If anything happens, it’s easy to dispute.Summary:- Poor hostess, late seating- Inattentive Waiter- Poor selection for evening attendance- Atmosphere unwelcoming.
Good food, good wine, good service and great jazz!
The one and only REAL Jazz Club in Philadelphia carrying on a decades-long tradition of presenting live jazz with Top-Notch performers. It doesnt get any better than this in Center City Philadelphia. Bravo Chris Jazz Cafe for all you do in keeping live jazz alive!
A buddy and myself went there while pretty sauced up to enjoy a nice show. Waitresses could tell we were on something but attended to us none the less. Good food, stiff drinks, and excellent jazz.
Amazing place love the ambiance the low lighting the live jazz band the candle lights it’s sexy and romantic it makes for a great evening out. The food is also very good and the service as well.
Awesome place with the wide variety of choices. The place was cozy and the atmosphere was amazing. If i talk about the Food and coffee was superb also i like the way they treat their customers and take care of their need. The music here has make this cafe great. Overall nice cafe.
Was very lovely. we are having a cheap night out so we did not pay the cover. however if we had five dollars we would’ve sucked a lot of the fancy looking men in there. The drinks looked beautiful and the accompanying jazz music was great. The two seater high tops are perfect for a romantic night out. LOTS OF SINGLE MEN.
I good chill spot
Exactly what it says on the tin, have some drinks, get some snacks, listen to jazz. The people are friendly, and the band was good. They have 2 sets on Saturdays, which is nice
The staff is beyond professional and attentive. Special shout out to Priscilla and Crystal for their beautiful personalities and serving their customers with a smile! The MAC n Cheese is BOMB!! The Show was awesome!!!!! Just the vibe you need on a chilly, rainy Friday evening. Cant wait to return!!
If you want a variety of jazz sounds or big band sounds this is the place to go. This is my 2nd time there the bands/artists are good not to mention the food and drinks are excellent. They have different sets with different musicians every weekend. Go to the website for tickets, price is reasonable. Picture is of the Jump City Jazz Orchestra, many other good artistist perform there.
Real JAZZ spot!Absolutely incredible. Last night the COOLEST drummer was willing to change his whole set around to accommodate my LEFTY issues to jam with the best Standard ACOUSTIC BASS player Ive seen in many years. Thank you Gentlemen. You reminded me in my time of need that Philadelphia is still the true CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE!!!LOVE YOU GUYS!!!️
Wow went to see The Hot Sardines. They were fabulous! And Chris is such an intimate environment to enjoy jazz. The food and service were excellent
Music / acoustics were average; food was !(surprisingly) very good.
Chris Jazz Cafe delivered great cocktails, service, and well executed Southern inspired cuisine. The venue was great for the jazz quartet as the volume was just right.
If its jazz you want this is ths place to be. The performance was top notch. Crisp clean flowing sounds. The food, on the other hand, left alot to be desired. No one at my table was impressed with their meal. However the salmon patte topped with caviar was delicious.
Very disappointing. Margarita was super sweet, bland and, at $14, overpriced. Singer’s delivery was uninspired and the selection of songs was all one-note. All for a cover charge $20. The staff, on the other hand, was pleasant and helpful.
Loved the place, the staff and great music . Relaxed environment but still sophisticated some how.
I went on a date here on a beautiful summer night after work. Great service, tasty food, lovely bottle of wine and beautiful lay out of candle lit tables. Amazing music and variety of artists. I cant wait to visit again.
Was amazing music and food. Great service as well
I was walking past this evening for Mother’s Day weekend and my mom happened to hear the jazz. The door was propped wide open with no one at the door. I could see the live band from the bar so we ordered a drink and after I handed my card I was charged an admission fee without notice. No one explained this to me. So my 10 dollar bill turned into 25.My mother was very bothered by this and told the manager who was walking around that it is illegal to charge without notice at the door, in writing or before charging your card. He said he was sorry and to talk for he owner at the bar who was eating. So my mother waited until he finished and explained her concern... while she ordered more drinks at his establishment. He said “you’re a woman you should know if you enter into an establishment with live music you will be paying money” and she explained that she was told unless we wanted a table and wanted to stay we wouldn’t get charged. He then proceeded to say “get over it”. She said she will be writing a review and he told her “go ahead, do you think you’re the first fu@$er to tell me this”.When my mother told me this I’ve never felt so disrespected by an establishment. There was no, I’m sorry or explanation but to curse at my mother after she explained she’s here visiting and curious as to why we were charged.I would never recommend this place to anyone who wants quality service. I don’t think I’ve ever been disrespected this badly in my time living in this city.
Cool, late night, hole in the wall with live music and drinks infused with CBD.
This is a really nice place for good jazz. Food is pricey and not the best but nice atmosphere. Great Jazz and today was Philly Jazz Fest so some awesome musicians. Marc Cary was great and the vocals on Emily Braden were really something.
Exceptional jazz open mic! Kitchen closed before 12:40pm which was a bummer but we very much enjoyed the scotch and service.
Music was good, however the food could definitely be better, not the greatest
One of my favorite places to get brunch. The combinations are so creative and impressive. For how busy the place was, service was decently quick, there were some times when it was a little on the slower side.Definitely make sure to make reservations so you wont have to wait a few hours.
I made a reservation over the phone, and I spoke with Marry she was so sweet, kind, and patient. I really appreciate her amazing customer service!
I had a lot of fun here! This was a great date spot. Really friendly staff and some good happy hour deals too. Also I was a huge fan of the live music.Got here before the live music started and was still having fun, but once the music began the whole dynamic changed. Would definitely go back for the music another night.
Great food, music, and service!
The food is the surprise we expected bar food and received a full restaurant menu.Love the ambience and music was great.
Nice music great food and good atmosphere
Always treated like family here. From the owner Mark, to the General Manager Mary, and back into the kitchen with Nigel, this place is run tight! The musical acts youll see here even on the open jam nights will blow you away!
Good atmosphere. Great live music
Wonderful performance from the singer and the pianist, would have been nice had management decided to have the piano tuned. The upper register was a shame.
Music and atmosphere was great but the service was terrible. I dont know if they were having a bad night but the waitress barely checked in on us all night, it took close to 30 minutes before we got our first drink, and it took equally as long just to pay our check as they put wrong items on our bill and we had to wait for them to correct it.
Very nice place with live Jazz music. Food was good too, had very nice sandwich.
Awesome music, pretty good food, not too expensive
Fantastic food and live music in cool atmosphere. Service is outstanding.
Great place for some of the best jazz in Philadelphia, like Three Oranges, Sam Greenfields band!!
Nice evening out. Drinks were small for price. Mac-n-cheese with lobster was ok.
The best bartenders in the city! Plus great music too!
Great friday late night hang.
Very warm and intimate jazz music bar in downtown Philadelphia
Real jazz music. Great service without paying an arm and leg
This place is magical. During my evening attending it felt as if I had been transported back in time to a jazz bar. Truly wonderful.
Really enjoyed the music and food, couldve added more shrimp with the grits, but the overall experience was great.
The live music was great! Staff was amazing. They lose a star for serving grit water and shrimp. The girl was very accommodating though and was quick to accept a new order and remove the charge. They lose another star for having a business relationship with interpark on 15th. The venue doesnt have parking available but they have multiple signs posted that you get a discount for using that parking lot.The parking attendants had no idea what I was talking about and then stated that I would need a bar coded discount. The bar only gave us a business card. After going back to the bar, no one knew what the parking lot was talking about.Long story short, $35 fee for 41 minutes of parking on a Saturday night.Id probably return to the bar but only after they rectify this parking situation. The Ethiopian manager at the parking place was also extremely rude so if you go, use any other parking lot.Update after owner response 9/3/19:There were 3 signs outside near what looked like your closed parking garage stating that there is a discount for using the garage that we used. Not to mention your staff, Isaac is this only name I remember, but we spoke to 3 people who work there who knew what we were referring to w/ parking but not a bar coded ticket.
Fast services was provided by great staff. Perfect music.
Good music, good food and drink. This is a lively hall, and with some loud music it may not be the place for a romantic one-on-one conversation. But it is definitely a great place for exciting tunes.
Saw a jazz quartet here on Friday. Great atmosphere, affordable food and drinks, and the band was amazing. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent entertainment, menu is a bit pricey, enjoyed the zucchini straw pasta
Fun place definitely I will coming back
My meal was free...thats what brought me there. I had the chicken salad on croissant with fries. It was ok. The spot is cozy, intimate and the servers were nice.
The food and drinks are always great. And the jazz artists they book are legends and world class!
Music is good, and so are the drinks
Suitably divey place with good jazz, good drinks and excellent service!
Great jazz, great food, excellent selection of local brews, a chill vibe and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?
Im giving them this review solely based on their lunch specials. Every day they have something different to offer for $8. And every time I have the special its very good and Im very happy. Read that again... $8 lunch special, very good. Thats better than going to the wawa across the street for sure!
Great vibe. Good music. Fantastic artists and friendly staff. What more needs to be said?
Great local jazz band. Small and intimate. Low key
First time to a jazz club. Great experience
Employees were super sweet and the jazz was wonderful
Fabulous evening with my Husband! Entertainment was great, Food was good and our Anniversary was spectacular!
They need to get more comfortable seats, after an hour on hard wood our butts were done.
The music is always great. The food is always great. The company is always great. Its like Cheers.
Food was decent and service was good. Did not stay for show so nothing on that
Service horrific it was like the guy didnt want us there, also so seemed like the other server were arguing with are server. Music also was not good and they charged to get in the door when they should have paid us to listen to it.
Great friendly bar. Classic jazz on the weekends. It is slow during the week. Jazz quartets often sitting during the week. A bit dark, the food is good, but fully priced. Bartenders are more than pleasant and very low key. My go to for a relaxing scotch during a hectic workweek.
Great jazz venue to hear some of the worlds best musicians. A wonderful place to dine w friends and enjoy world class musoc
Love this place great for industry folks
Excellent service! Sara was awesome! Great music!
I do love this place. I been going there for two years now. The food is excellent a nice atmosphere music is awesome. I will keep going. The waiters are so nice and pleasant. I took my husband there for the first time for his birthday even he loved and he come all the time with his boys.
Great music and great food..the hospitality is 2nd to none
You pick the music you like and a date that works for you. I have been there several times and the food is always very good. This evening the food was exceptional. The service sucked. Simple as that.
The drinks were nice, but I didnt get the Jazz which is why I came.
Enjoyed the live music, excellent drinks, highly recommend the gin and chronic!
