If you want one of the top schools anywhere for visual and performing arts, UofA is the place to apply. Not your traditional campus. The buildings are located within a two block area on Broad st. in downtown Philly. There admissions requirements are exacting but if you can get in, and if youre a city person, this is the place.

I am so eager to apply for this school, this school is my first choice out of all my options, I really hope I get accepted into this amazing school. Ive heard so many great things about the University, seen many videos online regarding this school, and watched many films that the students in the film department have created and Im so astound by the work Ive seen from some notable alumni. Im currently a senior in high school right now and Im hoping to major in film making at this school. This would honestly be my dream. Does anyone know exactly what will guarantee my acceptance into this school. Ill honestly do whatever means possible to ensure myself getting accepted into this amazing University.

This is my daughters first year at UArts as a transfer student. I have had nothing but a welcoming, pleasant and knowledgeable staff to help me with this transition. It is her first year away from home and I was very concerned for her safety and well being. I visited Philly over the summer to check out the area. I instantly fell in love. The city is amazing and full of culture. I am more than comfortable with my daughter attending UArts. Amazing staff and students. Im looking forward to her having a great year!! I want to thank the staff for answering all my questions and giving me peace of mind.

Was one of my top picks for grad school. I attended Hampshire College in Amherst, MA as an undergrad, and earned my BA in Theater & Film there. Being from NYC, I was aware of UofA as an undergrad, but didnt think Id get in (I thought it was more like NYU, but its not, its MUCH better and smaller and less selectiver) so I was scared to apply as an undergrad. UofA was VERY strongly considered by me for my MFA, BUT I ended up choosing The New School in NYC over UofA ONLY because they gave me the better Fellowships and Grants package, plus a three year guaranteed TAship. Otherwise, I TOTALLY would have packed up my apartment in Northampton, MA and headed south to Philly if the financial offer had been the same or better. Its ok, I was back in NYC, which to be frank, is just as good a city for the arts as Philly, if not better.

I love the crafts program so much the hands on teaching style is a once in a lifetime experience. however, the school is very top-heavy in administration, making it extremely costly. not worth the money if youre not bourgeoise.

I graduated in 2008 in the Performing Arts Schools with a BA in Acting. I met some wonderful people. I studied under knowledgeable and inspiring professors. but this place aint worth the cost!If you want bitter teachers, stuck up queens, and all the lack luster of Philly.. go ahead

Before applying, enrolling and beginning to run up huge debt, research the possibilities for employment after. ALL creative arts have been suffering huge declines in employment opportunities, not just in Philadelphia, but country and worldwide. Way too many wannabe artists and huge ever increasing declines in all over opportunities. I am an Alumna who has managed a successful free lance career mostly in Publishing and Advertising for decades, two formerly important emplyers, but no longer. I Full time instructors usually have little or no experience in real world employment, so thy need your tuition to pay THEIR salaries.Buyer beware...or pay heavily after graduating into the REAL world.Do the research!!

The masters programs here are fantastic teachers are able to one with you, because the classes are small. Its exactly the kind of attention one needs in grad program.

I graduated from UArts many years ago. The positive is the university is one of, if not the only university that offers creative and performing arts under the same roof. The amount of exposure to other disciplines a student can experience are excellent. The negative is the price. The tuition rate for a undergrad degree is so high that its like an offensive joke. It wouldnt be so bad if the job market for creatives were robust in Philadelphia. Its not, not by a long shot. If a student attends UArts, expect large amounts of debt upon graduation and you absolutely must relocate because Philadelphia isnt a good city to be a creative. Dont let the marketing fool you, Philly wants to be a creative city, like New York, respected, but in reality the city is a poser that doesnt deliver for those already here. I was an animation major at UArts in a department that labeled computer animation a fad, video game design a waste of talent and refused to acknowledge digital editing and output. Totally ignorant of the changing industry and proud of this ignorance. Its improved to an extent since last I visited (a few months ago) but judging from what my nephew (who is currently a student) told me about his animation courses, UArts is still not quite up to speed on practices and technology in animation. Not cool for that tuition rate. If I had to do it all over again, I probably would not attend UArts. As such, I wouldnt recommend the university to anyone else except those from very rich families that are attending simply for something to do.

Attending this School in the Fall! Uarts has been my dream school for a while. My father is an alumni and current faculty member at the school. Ive practically grown up on the campus. Ive been coming to work with my father since I was a toddler. The Faculty have been nothing but nice and have almost become like a family. Uarts was the school I chose because after taking countless classes at the school and being immersed in the community, the sense of welcome, the sense of community. You not only become part of college, you become part of the Flourishing artistic community of Philly that keep the city so unique and diverse. It doesnt feel like some cold Ivy League factory pumping out students. The school feels like a home, where youre excepted for who you are and it becomes a comfortable place to pursue your artistic dreams, goals, and desires to your hearts content. If youre considering Uarts, I hope you choose it. Youll meet some amazing peers who support and comfort you, amazing professors who aid and challenge your artistic vision, and not only be apart of the exciting active Uarts community, but you get to experience why Philly is the City of Brotherly Love, right here at the heart of Philly. As beautiful as Philly is as a city, I believe the true beauty lies within the people you meet here. : )

I am head over heals with this school. My son is in his freshman year there and Ive never seen him so happy. He lives off campus and is completely overwhelmed by the course load, BUT this is a good thing. H says, Id think something was wrong if I were paying $40,000 per year on a school and not being challenged. This from a young man who has been acting professionally since he was 10 years old and comes to UArts with much training under his belt. I dont think he could have made a better decision!I see complaints about staff. Ive never seen this...every time Ive had to contact financial aid or admissions, Im greeted with efficiency and professionalism. As t the remark about UArts being deceptive...My son applied to many schools and the room and board is NOT part of the tuition, its separate in every school. Living in a dorm is expensive and UArts is no exception. We are able to save at least $8000 a year by living off campus.
