It was a beautiful and peaceful experience. Parked on Arlington right next to the entrance. Gotta live free and easy parking. The admission price was very reasonable and I was able to make reservations the day before. I emailed the staff to ask questions and received a response very quickly. The grounds were gorgeous and mostly covered making it perfect to visit at anytime of year. There was also plenty of seating all throughout the gardens.
I have been coming here since I was a little boy. I love this place. Nice Oak trees and Camellia forest. Lovely walking. I love all the small little ponds. Not as big as Huntington, but it is a different style. Worth a visit for sure!
Foundations dance company has recently changed locations and now there are more classes than ever! Ive taken the adult ballet, adult tap, adult jazz and adult contemporary. Im 31 years old and took a long break from dance after college. Im so glad Ive taken advantage of the classes available, it has made me realize how much Ive been missing dance in my life. Its better now than it was before because Im taking class for myself and I appreciate all types of dance so much more! Thank you Foundations Dance Company for offering classes to adults!
Highly recommend the enchanted garden experience. Night lights were breathtaking. Make sure you reserve tickets ahead of time. The visit was very pleasant. Very family friendly. Food and drinks are overpriced, but this is to be expected. Crowd was controlled due to prior ticketing reservation, which was definitely a plus. Parking was pretty easy too.
While my parents were in town for the weekend we visited theJapanese and I immediately understood the menagerie of rave reviews. The expansive gardens offer a wonderful glimpse into nature, paired with a stunning view of the mountains. Its $9 to enter and absolutely worth it; be sure to bring some walking shoes because the grounds are grand!
I really enjoyed Storrier Stearns Japanese Garden. Its not as big as some of the other places, like Huntington Library or the LA Arboretum, but the places here are much more scenic than those places. Very beautiful. Im not a botanical expert, but it was nice that there was a free tour to talk about the various plants and not to mention that the admission fee was relatively cheap. I would come back.
Went through with family members, ranging in age from 4 to 63 y. o. All enjoyed themselves & loved the beauty of the garden. So many varieties of flowers & trees! The Japanese garden is delightful.Further, the Boddy house is still elegant, even though it was designed 50+ years ago.The lake is peaceful & a great resting place while hiking through.Just 9 miles east of Burbank- truly a cultural treasure.
This Japanese garden was amazing. The art on display was a beautiful origami display. The gardens are peaceful, the koi fish are very active, but the quality of of the plant variations are lacking. The temple was definitely a huge bonus, as I was able to sit and meditate for a few moments. The serenity of this place is something I think many people will find tranquility and happiness in!
Went here Saturday, it was a bit gloomy but I like it. The crowd could be better I think they would need to increase tickets prices for that. We had brunch at Maple which was really great for the drinks and I think worth the price. The train was fun for the kids. It is good to have nearby. Adequate parking as well.
So peaceful, so beautiful. Hidden in a residential area because it originally was a private residence. You must visit this little gem. Bring a friend and a snack. My mister and I are sitting here enjoying Japanese music being performed live. Very meditative. No food/beverage sold here. A little gift shop is on the grounds.
After the Rose Parade we drove over for a nice walk in the gardens. Not much flowers this time of year, but it was a peaceful walk through the Camellia Forest, rose garden and Lilac garden. There is a Japanese style Garden and tea house, but it wasnt open. Most likely a beautiful place to relax and unwind. Enjoy the sun, read a book and just relax.
Excellent place to go if you like a walk in the nature and flowers and just to see different plants. Best time to go is in spring to see blooming flowers. Great place to take family or a date if you are single to spend a few hours on the weekend.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I went for the Japanese cherry blossoms festival and it was just beautiful. We walked through the Japanese gardens got our grub on from the Patina Groups special catering for the event (bento boxes!! :D), then made our way to the boddy house which was a pleasant surprise. Its the house of the people who donated the land for the gardens and its a this amazingly modern and yet awesomely mod. Def check it out!! after that we wandered over through the rose garden and the californian vegetation. Dont miss all the beautiful magnolias and CHECK OUT THE LILAC GARDEN!! your nose will thank me!!
Shhhhh. Dont tell too many folks about this gem of a getaway. Be sure to make reservations if you do. Open only at the weekend.
My wife and I were disappointed on our recent visit. Perhaps its in part due to the restrictions imposed by COVID, but the garden struck me as shabby and overgrown. Stone lanterns were some kind of composite material and looked like they came from Home Depot. The recently reconstructed tea house doesnt use the traditional dark wood it would have originally been constructed in, and again looks very reproduction. Overall the garden felt slapdash and poorly maintained. The garden is also much smaller than I expected. With the poor state of the ponds and surrounding planted areas we werent inspired to stop and contemplate, and with a single short path around the ponds our two-hour window for visiting was far more than needed.I accept that COVID has curtailed activities and events, and closed the teahouse, but I really didnt feel the experience was worth the $7.50 admission price.
A very nice place to visit on the planet!! We had good time exploring the garden for first time. Definitely will be coming back soon.
Currently open for two-hour timed visits on Sundays, but advance reservations are required. Beautiful and peaceful, but the grounds are small: to make the most of your visit, bring a book to quietly pass the time.
This place is heaven. Its truly my happy place The lilac gardens are wonderful in the spring and the roses are lovely too. I recommend this for a date, a place to go with family, and a place to go alone with a journal.
If I am in need of a moment of peace and serenity from the stressors of life all I need to do is meditate on my favorite places that have been home to me since I was a child and I can feel the calm coming over me. A taste of heaven.
A beautiful place to relax with your dear friends or family members. The flowers and trees are amazing this year after a wonderful and needed raining season.Dont miss this wonderful place this year.
Beautiful and tranquil. A small space, but there is so much to look at and appreciate.
Never even knew this place existed until we came here for a friends wedding. Its a very lovely place with lots of scenic views. Its cozy and intimate, but you can get away from other people too. Good shade and the sunlight streaming through the treetops really add a painterly look to the place. Only downside is the mosquitoes. Bring some bug spray.
Very aesthetic, calm and peaceful. And enlightening
Great place to come, and to receive the embodiment of Zen, and also the exciting architecture and calming environment. A must see and experience if you love the Zen culture, and a piece of Japan in this place of town. All Veterans are welcome, as an Army vet, places like this bring deep healing to the soul!
Such a peaceful garden right in Pasadena. Worth a visit.
Very relaxing Japanese garden to view 2 koi ponds and read a book, paint or just zone out.
The gardens were beautiful. I attended on a day the gardens had partnered with an art installation that was commercial in nature. The art was beautiful, too, yet unexpected and negatively affected the serenity of the gardens for me.
Quiet peaceful place of reflection
They charge $10 for adult basically for nothing. The place is very small and not even nice. If you want better experience check out The Japanese Garden right next to Balboa Park for even less price.
I understand this place has more than 6, 000 reviews, but nonetheless, it must be said such a magnificent job the personnel here does. I learn a lot every time Im right here. Grounds and greenhouses tend to be breathtaking, and something is definitely in bloom. Plan a visit to see different plants within their prime!! (Lilac road, Azalea Method, Rose garden).
Love this place
This place is perfect, lovely, and serene. It is cute, but there is plenty of space to walk and think. They are very environmentally friendly, and also warm and welcoming to people. The groundskeeper was adorable and kind and he introduced us to the turtle who he helped us beckon from across the pond to feed. They also have a Camellia from Hiroshima, an amazing plant of history and peace. Much love to this place, didnt know it existed, highly recommend!!
This place is beautiful and quiet very unique definitely something you would want to see at least once
Its ok. Its very small. You can walk through in about 10 minutes.
A quiet place !
Smaller Japanese garden with large pond and tea house. Made reservation online for tea ceremony demonstration. Approximately 12 participants with 2 actually going thru the process with a tea master while the rest of us watched and listened to the English speaking narrator. All were served 2 small Japanese sweets and the lighter (usukuchi) frothy green tea.
Peaceful and serene. Small garden (2acres) with nice Koi pond. 10 dollar admission.
Absolutely Beautiful
Small yet very lovely and relaxing place. I simply adore the friendly Koi fish.
A beautiful gem of a Japanese garden. The space is small, but packed with things to see or just sit and relax. We highly recommend the docent tour. It was very informative about the sites history and about the structure of a Japanese garden. Definitely worth a visit.
So beautiful and peaceful!
No much money to get in
A beautiful Japanese garden for hosting outdoor events. Quiet, serene and well staffed.
Its a nice simple Japanese Garden with pathways that meander up & down & around the garden. The pools of water with water lilies in bloom are lovely
Small, beautifully designed and tended Japanese meditation garden. Peaceful, shady and quiet.
Cute little garden, nice place to take your tea or lunch with a friend or solo.
Such a cute place, and great idea for dates and sightseeing.
Nice but not good if you have any Walker or cane
Really nice place to sit for an hour or two.
Cute place. A little small. Definitely buy tickets online before visiting to save a few $$$
Mindfulness oasis. Densely planted with numerous vistas, ponds, bridges, poetic bent trees. Take the guided walking tour at 11 am! Street parking not allowed; follow instructions for off street parking.
Love this place
Lovely experience, beautifully kept, peaceful, a bird/dragon fly/fish sancuary, and very small. You can easily spend an hour, maybe a little more, but mostly just for a calm afternoon. Be aware of the weather (Pasadena gets HOT) and bring a book!
Had the opportunity to meet Manji Inoue here, a Japanese master ceramic artist and hear him speak as well as enjoy some of his artwork and a teahouse exhibit so it was very nice and all for free thanks to a friends recommendation.
Beautiful evocative authentic garden. Contemplative spaces and lovely design.
Lovely place!
Gorgeous venue. My friend held her wedding here and it turned out beautifully.
Awesome most zen place to visit very informative master gardener gave us a talk all about organic composting!!! The tea house was just spectacular..loved everythg about. This place ...i heard them telling a couple no dogs allowed..was sad for me to hear..as the lil guy seemed quite harmless..
Love having weddings and events there! It is hidden gem!
Such a nice escape, but mostly accessible during the week.
Very nice garden with good landscaping, but the walk-in tea house stole the show. Wonderful experience.
Place is worth maintaining but management is careless about ponds cleaning and clearing from unwanted plants.
A hidden gem in Pasadena. Its a private home/property thats been re-created as a Japanese garden. I got married here, and its a very serene and beautiful spot
Serenely beautiful
Beautiful and serene
I was a bit disappointed. The grounds didnt look like the pictures online, the venue is small, no water fall, and the water was dirty. Its basically someones backyard with a tea house and a building. Its an okay experience for an afternoon getaway.
Beautiful and peaceful
It is beautiful, has a lot of shade, and is well manicured. Its only about two acres big, so it doesnt take very long to see.
Had a great time ...very peaceful ...great for meditation and relaxing...the music performance was wonderful...!!
Parking situation is a nightmare...I would suggest walking or Uber. Garden has a lot of potential but needs a bit more loving care.
Must see something else a paradise so soothing to the soul!
This beautiful Japanese garden is a peaceful place to walk or relax in. Thank for supporting this precious sanctuary for all to enjoy!
Today I walked into the next part of my spiritual journey. I am so honoured to have had this experience today.
Nice but small Japanese Gardens. Helpful and courteous staff
Nice hidden garden that is worth a visit to learn about its history
Too small! It wasnt as beautiful as IExpected!
Gorgeous place. Very peaceful.

Beautiful Japanese Garden! Very peaceful
Very nice. So peaceful & tranquil.
Stunningly beautiful, a must visit for visitors and residents alike.
Quiet, peaceful, even calm down my noisy kids
Looks great and surprised they had a Japanese garden here.
Excellent gardens and tour
Beautiful, quiet place to recharge.
Beautiful place peaceful and amazing
Beautiful, but very small
Beautiful place!
It looks like a small private backyard which was a waste of time and money spending on this place.
Beautiful
It is not worth the money or time.
Beautiful place
