Amazingly fun! A good workout navigating over rocks and some water, culminating in the Eaton Canyon Falls. (2.2 miles each way ) I saw lizards and birds. Consider wearing OFF BUG SPRAY as there are bugs and mosquitoes. Wear something to go into the water with, flip flops, and a towel. Waters chilly but adaptable. Entrance requires a free online reservation during this pandemic.
A great place to start a hike. You can just go to the falls, or you can do the STEEP hike up to Henninger Flats, and beyond. (Pictures of both included)Well marked trails and generally well maintained. The trail to the falls involves numerous creek crossings (rock-hopping), but is not strenuous. The hike to Henninger IS strenuous, but straight-forward.
Reservation made it less crowded and a lot of parking spots. Im glad they did that to protect others from getting too close due to covid. Went during a hot weekend and my corgi couldnt get to the top of the waterfall but was still an awesome experience.
Such a fantastic place to hike, especially with kids. The nature center is fabulous and there are gentle walking trails, climbing trees, creek, and great hikes (to the waterfall, etc...). Downloading the app is a must -- and its worth checking in with the nature center about scavenger hunts, badges the kids can earn, and other great interactive activities!
Great trail by the river bed especially now with this wet weather. Nice place to chill in nature. Community park lots of people walking around no worries for wildlife. Just bring extra pants and plenty of traction on your feet. Crossing the river plenty of times so watch your step. Lots of fun though would recommend.
My love saved my life here. We always enjoy our hikes but this time I wasnt in the best health condition nevertheless he took great care of me.The hike is mild towards the waterfall but were attacked the mountain to the right, its not for beginners. A great way to open the lungs and exhale that CO2
Wonderful experience hiking here. You do need a reservation to come in but its worth it. Staff is extremely kind and helpful when you ask for help. Many people do not take the time to see that reservations are needed and they end up being rude and disrespectful to the staff. Make sure to call ahead and make a reservation before you drive out.
This hike is fun! not too grueling... to the falls and back is 3ish miles. its generally shaded and being by the streams keeps it cool and not too muggy. we started at 8am on a saturday and fortunately snagged a spot in the lot before it quickly filled up. be careful if parking along the stone wall because we saw a car ram into it too fast... puncturing its front tire and damaging its bumper! back to the hike... its definitely crowded, and we maybe encountered 3 groups of people with speakers blaring out of the backpacks. also lots of dogs along the way. overall a fun way to get outdoors and get some exercise while enjoying the scenery!
The hike was worth it to get to waterfall. Great hike a little rocky. Be careful
A beautiful 1 hour trail. Make sure you carry a lot of water. This time there is a lot of water as well. The water super cold and this time over I got to take a dip at the waterfall. There is plenty of parking available. There is provisions for overflow parking as well. Mobile restrooms are provided at the start of the trail. There is not much steep climbs but there are small ones. You might need to cross the water couple of times so make sure you come prepared.
Eaton Canyon Nature Park is a190-acre zoological, botanical, and geological nature preserve situated at the base of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains. We went here on a Sunday morning. The hike to the 40-foot Eaton Canyon Waterfalls can be summed up to: 1.1 miles of wide flat, relatively uneventful dirt trail, followed by 0.65 miles of single track up a narrow canyon that is adventurous and fun (forming a 3.5 mile round trip hike with 375 feet of elevation change). Free parking is available. Dogs are welcome in Eaton Canyon Park and on Eaton Canyon Trail to the waterfall. No fee or permit is required. Overall, I enjoyed my time hiking. It is an easy trail so anyone can do it.
Come ready to get your shoes wet! Fun hike for the family. It requires constant creek crossing which is fun for the kids. Let them get wet and dirty thats what the outdoors is for. Pick up after yourself and conserve this beautiful place.
Please keep in mind you are in nature, so be alert when hiking, there are snakes every now and then (rarely).
Such a rewarding trail. I go with my 3 girls ages 5, 6 and 11 and they love it. Theyre little troopers we her to the waterfall with no complaints.
Beautiful place. Definitely gets a bit crowded.
Such a vibrant, beautiful place to enjoy a moment in time with nature...little friends everywhere! They even have parking available! This is a nice flat hiking option for the area... Its a nice nature walk.
Sunday @ Eaton Canyon Falls it was flowing. Awesome hike to the falls be prepared to walk in the water no way around it. Nice crowd of people and the Falls is big.
Loved it, I unfortunately started late in the day, and couldnt get to the falls. The walking and scrambling was fun. It was nice being outdoors, it was busy but still not a feeling of being overcrowded.
Nice scenery and fun hike to a waterfall. The trail crosses a stream several times. There were way too many people! It felt kind of like being at Disneyland.
This was a beautiful hike, very lush and green. Smells wonderful and fresh. The waterfall is absolutely gorgeous. Do not try to wear cute shoes on this hike as they will get ruined, get some waterproof hiking shoes because they have good grip and you have to cross a stream several times on the way to the waterfall.
Amazing hike amazing memories Love you Bro.
I love hiking & backpacking up here. It’s got great views & the camping grounds are nice with water, restrooms, & fire pits.
Plenty of parking but trails are dry and dusty during hot summer season.... can’t wait for winter
Hiked up to Eaton Falls from the nature center. The center had restrooms, which was nice for a pregnant lady like me. The hike itself delivered all good things: shade, water streams, lots of trees, wildlife, pathways, a few challenging climbs, friendly people, doggies. Doggie bags are provided at the beginning of the trail too, which I thought was generous. Tip: your feet will get wet crossing streams, don’t try avoiding the water, you’ll slow down others and possibly fall...just be prepared. My only complaint would be the graffiti near the end of the trail to the waterfall. You can crop it out of pictures, but it really doesn’t fit into the scenery and is sad to see.
Beautiful placr to go hiking with the family and taking pets outdoors. One suggestion, if you want to enjoy the hike by yourself and really take in the scenery, get there a couple hours before the park officially opens.
Very easy trail primary trail that does have many have some terrain changes. Hike can be extended with other trails which are less crowded than the one leading to the falls.
Nice hike, but it way too crowded on weekends. Definitely going back on a weekday!
Had a very special and funny experience there with friends. It is not a usual climbing, and with challenge and fun. I went there in autumn, no ice no water in rill. That’s the disappointing part. All in all, interesting Mount!
It provides plenty of parking. Easy to access. Low impact and is very scenic!
Beautiful hike, fairly easy. Dogs are allowed on leash all the way up to the falls, kids wouldnt have too much trouble getting up. Its pretty crowded but theres secluded paths up and down that make you feel like youre alone if yourewilling to get wet or explore. Water shoes are recommended, even if they arent meant for hiking. I doubt anyone that made it to the falls has a dry shoe. I wore hiking watershoes and was comfortable, but the last time I went up I saw someone wear strapped sandals and thought they were better prepared than I was in my running shoes. Parking is free along the residences, the parking is free at the entrance too but it fills up quick.
Absolutely one of my favorite hiking spots in the local area. Everybody is nice trash is relatively nonexistent. And people are just there to enjoy a walk in nature. Its a treat to head out to the Eaton Canyon Falls and also if youre feeling adventurous to take the long walk up towards the Henninger Museum and lower campgrounds. Stunning views up there. Definitely worth the walk up. HINT: if you hit the Henninger campgrounds, save some times and take the walnut trail / coyote trail down back to the Eaton wash.
I loved this trail. There were plenty of shaded areas. You’ll find people hiking along the trail, running, walking their dogs.
Really nice little nature center. There are several really good trails varying from really easy to pretty challenging. There are a couple of waterfalls along the trails, too. It can get pretty crowded on the weekends.
Nice trail so close to town!
Fun hiking trail, if you are hiking to the waterfall and are not sure about crossing wet stones, perhaps this isnt your trail, or you could wear water friendly shoes. The home is fairly easy to the bottom waterfall. The one to above the waterfall is a bit more of a challenge. It all in all is a very enjoyable hike.
It was amazingThe view and everything to me it literally smells like homeFirst time hiking in Eaton Canyon and it was pretty fun but it was a long trip but taking the challenge on going thru the water and to feel more of the experience of the wilderness, you should try it, it will make your day.
Great place to hike here. Its beautiful. If you love hiking this is the place to go. If your in Los Angeles or just visiting check this place out. You wont be disappointed.
Awesome hiking spot. The river is flowing well, due to the rains. I suggest taking water shoes if you are going to take the trail to the waterfall. No loud music, Federal Code posting. Stay aware, there are rattlesnakes and Mountain Lions in the region. Take water. Take a retractable dog leash, all dogs on leash.
We had a great time here!
Crowded and heavily traffic. Dogs are allowed. The waterfall at the end still had quite lots of water, but the amount of people made it a bit less enjoyable.
This a great place for nature lovers and a family place to go. Free parking and you can also visit the local museum.
It was a really good place to hike. The waterfalls were really cool and you can get lots of exercise!
Dont bother with using stepping stones, just walk THROUGH the creek. Youll be criss-crossing it 10 times.
Another nature place in Los Angeles County that takes you away from the busy life of the big city to enjoy the magic and the secret of nature, and life. Thank You!
Nice hike. Plenty of water on the trail and waterfall at this time. Portable bathrooms are available at the trailhead. They are disgustingly dirty and rarely cleaned. Try to take care of business before you arrive. Plenty of parking.
Nice hike, little crowded but great trail to get out doors.
Always a good time and Eaton Canyon! The rain really brought some color back to the park.
Really nice place to exercise and relax.
Breathtaking waterfall and suberb trail to it, that make you feel a real explorer!
Best nature center ever! Go to the waterfall! Dont tag it please; thats obnoxious!
Water fountain and portapotties at trailhead.
This is a great family activity. You can hike, enjoy the views from the nature and have nice quality time with friends and family
I was anticipating something a little more based off of the pictures I had seen online. This was my first time here as Im not from California. With the extreme drought that the whole state is in, there is nothing here. The waterfall is a trickle. The basin to swim in isnt even deep enough to worry about a toddler. The whole streambed is bone dry. It was a nice hike otherwise. Its part desert with no coverage and part boulder filled stream bed with coverage. Boots are not needed and can easily be hiked by most people. Lots of people with strollers, dont bring them. There is no way to traverse the boulders with them for the last third of the hike.
It was clean and it was my first time drinking water from The River
Been hiking here for many many years. Free parking, although main lot can fill up quickly there is overflow not too inconvenient. Not a lot of shade but there are patches to cool off in or picnic. Can be quite a lot of water in river bed right after heavy rains, be prepared to cross and possibly get wet.
My favorite trail to walk or run!
Eaton Canyon is one of natures wonders, right in the huge metropolitan area of Los Angeles. The only dilemma is overuse. As with most recreational facilities, this one is not well enough supported by the government. However, a walk in Eaton Canyon will renew your zest for life so go!
Eaton Canyon is awesome!Great trails, waterfall, hike and natures all around!Squirrels, lizards...lions and tigers and bears!((oh,my!)) Great place to relax and take it all in...Here with my sons Blake and Roberto Jr.((Bobbys dog,Daisy, shes here too!))I bought them both a walking stick from the awesome gift shop! When they return from their hike,I will give them their walking sticks!A great day,and many Awesome amazing memorys for us all!
Ive lived within walking distance ofthe nature center for years, have always enjoyed the feeling of being in nature, so close to my neighborhood. Lots of foot paths around the nature center, and the trail to the falls is north of the parking lot. (Obey the signs; people climbing near the falls sometimes require rescuing)
Amazing views but I do recommend taking hiking sticks and shoes...there are a lot of rocks as you get closer to the waterfall.
The waterfall is amazing...be prepare to walk on rocky pathways.
The signs in the parking lot say they lock the gates at five, but Ive never seen it. Chill little area with a cool presentation area with benches and a grill. Also home to the most glamorous porta potties in town!
Parking is free, and on busy weekends there is an overflow lot, everything is lovely and lush after the rains, lots of people... so go mid week to avoid the crowds
This park will take you to a waterfallIs very beautiful and stretched walking areasBe prepared to get thirsty and wet
I love this place
Im new to hiking, I really enjoy nature and exploring new things... My son really like the waterfalls.
I was very disappointed, Ive been going there for the past 50 years and never had to make reservations. According to the youngsters guarding the entrances, they said that on Memorial day weekend their were large crowds of people who littered the canyon, that is why a reservation is required to control the large crowds of people. Who knows for how long this will be going on for. I believe in the near future that theyll be charging a fee to enter the Canyon. Very sad to see how things have changed over the years, and not for the best. Will be looking elsewhere to do my hiking.
Went on the hike to the waterfall. It was a hike with Abuela and my son. It was a bit lengthy and hot but we were prepared. My son hiked it in flip flops so its not that rough or a terrain. It is a long hike but there are some trees for shade. The waterfall was worth the hike and a great refresher from the heat. We started from the Eaton Canyon Center but was informed there is street parking further up that has its own trailhead which cuts your hike by half. Not sure the street but Im sure you can find it on Google maps. Good luck and enjoy the hike.
A very nice hike. Bring a small towel to dry off if you want to walk in the water from the waterfall.
BEAUTIFUL PLACE FOR THE FAMILY AND ADVENTURES
I love this place. The waterfall after a rain is incredible. 35’? Swimming in the natural pool is great too. Less crowds during the week. Have fun!
Nice family hiking place with a wonder at the end. Dont give up and reach the end. You wont regret.Free big parking available
Easy hiking trail. We had good time hiking with kids!
Great hike fairly easy but tons of streams and rocks so wear shoes that can get wet. About 1.5 miles.
Amazing information on surrounding area and Nature
Dont be too excited, it looks like a shower
Amazing, healing hike. Great for beginners or even joggers who like to mix workout with a healthy dose of nature. Parking is great, despite what others said. There’s a giant parking lot, overflow parking lot, and plenty of street parking—all free.
Somewhat dry but quite a lovely wild area. The Nature Center is great and the trails are really well kept. I will returning the spring to see if it is any greener.
Its a well populated hike with a lot of scenery and relaxation
You really want to have a great time hiking with all your family? This is the best to be
It was awesome I will definitely go back.
Beautiful place to hike if you just want to get away last minute...very serene
Who doesnt love nature?! I have been hiking here way before it was the cool thing to do! 10 years ago, the trails were very empty and it felt very peaceful. Slowly it got more crowded over the years and Ive watched this place change through different seasons.Even after frequenting this trail for years, it is still one of my favorite ones. Parking is abundant, plentiful and easy. There is a nice nature center that offers family friendly hiking events and information about Eaton canyon, and when we arent in drought season, a beautiful waterfall! I also enjoy the fact that there are multiple trails available with varying levels of difficulty and length at the same canyon. The trail to the waterfall is a nice one for beginners (2.5-3.5 hours round trip) because of the fact that it is a fairly short hike, and that you get to see a beautiful waterfall! It is also a good mix of sun and shade.Great place to enjoy nature and go for a nice hike!
Fun place ! Amazing and beautiful!
Easy hike.... very good for little kids, free outdoors fun! Take plenty of water!
Great hike! Just get ready to get your feet wet

Wonderful hike with a waterfall at the end. Sometimes the waterfall pool is deeper than other times we’ve been. The beginning of the hike is not shaded for awhile so it can be hot later in the day. Recommend going early. Once in the trees there’s shade off and on so much easier handling the California sun. Lovely hike we had on a Sunday late morning!
A real calm place to gather your thoughts. You have to go through a trail for about 30 minutes and reach the lower falls keep going and you’ll reach the upper falls. There are so many trails but people are so friendly that they’ll give you directions and sometimes even track with them.
Nice Waterfall and not too bad of a hike.Arrive Early for good parkingAnd Always bring at least 2-4 Waters
Awesome trail area to hike with a love one or with friends. I recommend to condition a bit before hiking since in some areas it’s steep. Be brave if the river is a bit higher than average since you might get your shoes wet. Always have fun while being here. Free parking by the way. Or check the street parking if your going when it’s getting darker.
Loveeee️
Too many people. No social distancing. We took an alternate trail with no people!?
Very gentle trail, beautiful waterfall!
Nice hike for everyone. The one thing I dont like is that people with dogs let dogs go in the water with the kids.
It has nice views, the nature center is informative, and it is an easy hike.
Beautiful place to visit, some trash but definitely not the canyons fault.
Great sitting areas, good little exhibits, and the trail through the waterbed is right there.
So nice and good place
