I can only speak on the fishing pier aspect. Beautiful views, great sunrises over the water. Nice pier with rod holders and notches. Can catch speckled trout, catfish, white perch, spot, croaker and stripped bass. Fishing was already a social distanced thing anyway as most give ample spacing for casting, and common courtesy.
Downs Park, located in Pasadena off Mountain Road, is a real gem in the Anne Arundel County park system. Its easy to get to, has ample and dispersed parking lots, numerous picnic tables and various sizes of pavilions (by reservation), a playground, and an asphalt surface with 8 basketball hoops. In addition, many trails traverse the park for waking, running and bicycling. There is a large visitors center with exhibits and staffed with a ranger and volunteers. Theres a well manicured, quiet flower garden with benches to relax and read or watch the many butterflies and birds. Facing the Chesapeake Bay are large memorial benches for relaxing or watching the sailboats, container ships and other maritime traffic. The Bay overlook, fishing pier, kayak launch, the aviary, volleyball nets, a concrete wall ball area and dog beach are other amenities that make this park a great destination for everyone. There is a reasonable admission charge (or a yearly pass is available) and the park, like others in the County, is free for veterans.
Beautiful park lots to see and do. I hidden jem. Come launch your kayak, fish off the pier, take your dog for a walk on the beach. There are basketball courts and pavilions. Hike thru the woods on paved trails or take a walk on the wild side on the eco trails. Stop and smell the flowers and learn about the area from the well placed signs that have interesting facts. Get up, get out and explore the world around you.
Beautiful park on the water. Walk throughMothers Garden small plots adopted and planted by the community. Trails for walking, playground, dog beach and bird sanctuary for rescued wildlife on the mend. Wonderful place to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.
Great park and our first time there. We were out exploring and could not access Gibson Island so we drove area that area. We didnt know Gibson Island was a closed gated community.Downs Park is huge and great place to fish, canoe and just hang out with the family.
Its great to take the dog of they like water and other dogs. Ive always been there with at least 3-8 other dogs at any given time. Ive never had a bag experience with another dog. My only complaint is some owners dont pick up after their dog, OR they do pick up sheet the dog but then leave the waste bag behind! Very frustrating.
It is very well maintained and clean, but the water was super cold today. The dog park is fenced in but the door has a big enough gap for a small dog to get through.
My wife and I went to Downs Park to ride bicycles on the trails. Much of the trail was beautifully wooded and some of it rode by the bay shoreline where there is a grassy knoll and benches. The portions of the trail we were on were either paved or had hard-packed gravel; both were excellent to ride on.
Great park. Took my grandson for some hiking, geocaching and play time. Enjoyed the trails a great deal, and met a lot of friendly dogs and their owners. He met a friendly snake in the nature center, and there is a really fun magnet game of name that animal! Playground was fun, as were the health activities along the Eco Trail. The beach is nice, even in winter. the whole family would enjoy this park.
Loved it. Luckily there were not too many dogs. So my pup enjoyed it. It is about 95% fenced in, so thats good. My pup is a runner and tends to escape, but everything was good. Wish the area was bigger.
The trails are always kept up and provide a wonderful ability to safely commune with nature. As much as I miss the displays in the ranger station, I understand why it needs to be closed.
Very nice, we look forward to going back to the park. Next time a little earlier. You must have cash to get in!
We love Downs park. Play ground, beach and lots of trails to enjoy.
Such a great park. One of a kind and beautiful to visit.- Huge Fishing/Observation Pier- Sandy Beaches- Dog Park- Bathrooms- Tons Of Parking- Currently Free To Visit ( Subject To Change )- Walking Trails- Playground- HUGE and great for SOCIAL DISTANCE
Clean location. This park had paved routes in the wooded areas which made for a smoother walk/exercise experience. Would be ideal for wheelchairs and strollers.
Very nice for a day trip. There are lots of space and many trails.
Pretty little park right on the bay that has a garden for weddings, a dog park and pavilions with park grills available to rent for parties.
The park was easy to find. The pavilion was clean and in a great location. Went to the park last year and enjoyed it as well. Nice place for outdoor fun and family gathering.
Nice place for a stroll along Chesapeake shore. Kids loved it! They can build their sand castle and dig in the sand forever!
Admission fee asks for $6 per car. The concern is on dog beach(not big though), all dogs are together and some are really aggressive which is not a good experience, otherwise, it is great. Suggest to separate dog beach by sizes.
Great place for the pups, lots of wide open spaces with views of the Bay. There is also a public dog beach where you can take your pets off leash to enjoy the water. Its small, but none of the pups seem to mind!
Big shady trees. Beautiful water view. Very relaxing day.
This is a very nice park on the bay with some pretty interesting history. Lots of nice walking trails, a decent playground for kids, a dog beach and a pretty cool visitor center. There is a pier(s?) for fishing if you have a license.Overall, this was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Yes there is no swimming but my guess is due to Vibrio, which they clearly warn you about.
God called my Daughter home 2019 my husband home 2020 my dog also very peaceful to regroup my 6 other daughters need to come there love this place thank you
This park is huge in every sense of the word! There is a couple different playgrounds!!!! Endless paved blacktop paths! I played here as kids and still do lol!!!! Fishing is actually gretty good as well!!!!
My favorite park in Anne Arundel County.
Very nice paved trails, dog beach, Kayaking, and plenty of grills...FREE FOR MILITARY AND VETS!!!
Great park to take your dog, or just hike thru the paved paths through the woods. With workout stations along the way. Well maintained park. Good overlooks and you can see the Bay Bridge out in the distance. Its a good hike since the trails are paved they barely get muddy, just in a very few spots where water builds up on the trail. $6.00 per car (02/17/2019)
Awesome place to take the kids or a date.
Wasnt as nice as I thought. Playground was big and has a small section for smaller kids. Beach area was tiny and mostly for dogs. Bbq sites - everyone potentially fought over the best spots. The best spots meaning no spiders or mud. Lake was nice.
Talk about dog-friendly! This park has a dog about every 100 yards, and the small dog beach is really nice. Nearly all the trails are paved, so its a nice place to get out and explore without really having to get too muddy.
The park was nice!!! But, the picnic area was closed, and my children and I went there to eat and look at the ocean.
Safe, clean place for bay enjoyment. Good for people and their pups.
Great place to bring your family. Park is very clean and the people are friendly. Lots of nature to enjoy, Nice trails, Fishing pier, and dog park.
There is an entrance fee of $6. Well maintained park that is very clean. They are repaving the main path that goes around whole park. There are exercise stations through one part of path. There are so many different paths to explore off main path. Lots of wild life when I went. Heated bathroom facilities throughout park which is great when you are hiking when its freezing out. The welcome center has a big match game on the wall, that is quite entertaining even for adults. They also have some really cool display scenes with stuffed animals. Great view of Bay bridge off of fishing pier. Definitely recommend.
Beautiful and relaxing great place for a picnic.
Beautiful park. Lots of trails to visit.
Nice place to take your dog and go for a walk. Lots to do in the warmer months. Unfortunately only went in the winter.
Beautiful park. Nice paved trails, right on the Chesapeake bay. Beautiful scenery.
Nice park with decent area for water watching and lounging. Dont recommend swimming, but people let their kids wade in the shallow water. Nice area for dogs by the water but can get a little rowdy with dogs playing so if your dog is shy they may be scared.
Always have a great time here, its clean and refreshing to get out.
Such a great place! Our dogs had the best time there today. Its a tad smaller than we were expecting, but it definitely did the trick! It was Saturday afternoon, so it was pretty busy. All of the other dogs were well behaved and there were no big scuffles. I highly recommended taking your pups here!!
First of all this is a very nice park. During the COVD 19 restrictions, i was chased off the beach while fishing by park rangers. Now on the pier there were 5 teenagers who were within 2 feet apart !? So much for 6 feet. Very wary about returning to have to deal with that type of experience.
Calm n Soothing
Great dog beach with plenty of other pavilions and paths around.
Downs Park is great. Unfortunately because of the Corona virus the visitor center is closed - not their fault.
Very beautiful park. I loved the trails, the views, and the park and pavilion areas. Great for a quick nature walk or an all day affair.
Lovely park. Nice bike trails. Cycled the perimeter trail through woods with nice views of the bay.
Great park to bring your family.
The absolute best park. Take the family there often, much to explore
Came today for a family festival. Amazing experience. My kids 3 and 5 had a blast.
Nice hot day out fishing the pier catching small perch, spots, and couple small rocks 6-8 inches.
Easy to get to, $6 all day, and even got a dog treat with admission.
Love this place! So peaceful, so perfect!
Clean and well maintained with a paved 3.2 mile loop to jog. Beach and dog beach are fun, but people sometimes let their dogs off leash at the dog beach despite the signs warning. Burden rescue has a cool owl and there are lots of pokemon stops to enjoy, too.
Its a beautiful peaceful and clean parkI loved it!
Nice park to spend the day with family and friends....dont forget the dog too.
Fishing, scenic views, outdoor gyms and playgrounds, nicely maintained trails with wildlife and a small dog beach, among other things like convenient parking. Would visit again! :)
The park is beautiful, kept clean and has great walking paths! We love that they have great views, turtles, deer, and a fishing pier!
Nice park to spend quality time with family And for those who have dogs as well, Since there is a beach dog.
Clean, safe and beautiful trees
Very nice Park for a quiet walk. Dont forget to go through there beautiful garden it has a lot of photo opportunities
Due to Covid restrictions mot everything was available. But its a nice place to relax and look at the water. People are friendly too.
Not that many bathrooms and not that well kept
Really small beach but quite clean and dogs can swim and play off leash. Our puppy really enjoyed his summer swim.
I have been coming to this park ever since I moved here. Perfect for spending time outdoors with the family, taking my dog to play fetch in the water, or just going for a walk.
Service and food was great I would recommend
Perfect place for some quiet.
Downs Park is a beautiful and majestic park right in the Chesapeake Bay with views of the bridge. They offer fishing, bird watching, trails, a full playground and a nature center. There is a nominal fee to get in per car. Downs Park even offers a private dog beach for your pups to play and frolic in the water. Open year round with pavilions available to rent. It has a stage available to rent as well. This is host to fishing contest as well a Concerts on the Bay, a summer series of concerts. The views of the water are amazing.
Crowded but beautiful! Not much shade on the playground for the kids though unfortunately. Blisterville haha
Absolutely splendid and dog and kid friendly.
Beautiful park! Lovely trails and amazing views of the Magothy River and Chesapeake Bay! Parking is $6 which is the only downside, you can get an annual pass for this and 3 other county parks for $30 as well, also cash only.
Playground is nice. Cant swim there.
Great park. Covid protocols made it tough to fully judge.
This park has everything a public park in Maryland should have. Beach view of the Chesapeake Bay including a view of the Bay Bridge. A fishing pier ( make sure you have your fishing license and saltwater stamp) for anglers to try their luck on. A dog/ pet beach to bring your pet to. Nature trails that are both scenic and exhilarating. A nature/information center about local wildlife that can be found locally. A garden that is perfect for quiet contemplation or a just leisurely walk. An out door concert and movie pavilion that operates during the warm months. In short this park has it all. Make sure to bring your military ID.
Nice & clean. good for fishing and picnic.
Great park with wonderful water views. Lots of things to do.
It was amazing we had a wonderful time
Always an amazing walk here.
I love the way the pier is setup.. always nice people on the pier and plenty of room to fish
Been coming to this park for many years. Bought a senior pass.
Beautiful park and a great dog beach!
Very nice except all bathrooms were locked. Had one portopotty only!!
Nice park not too crowded
Relatively clean. Fun place for dogs to run free and play on the dog beach. But it was crowded. The beach area isnt that big esp when you have a good dozen larger breeds running into the turf. Public bathrooms are nearby the dog beach. The park has paved trails to walk along. Several pavilions for general use or you can reserve with ample parking for all. Outdoor play ground for kids though which is not covered for really hot summer days. Overall, enjoyed the park. If you live with 20 minutes, a year pass is a good deal. Always check your dog for ticks after going to wooded or grassland areas.
Wonderful place for family fun.
My favorite park! I have been going here for almost 25 years, and have fond memories being a kid and playing with my friends, riding bikes, flying kites, etc. here. My husband and I got our engagement photos taken here, and I now take my family and my dog, and am still creating memories! It is a lovely park with friendly staff.
Very nice and well maintained
I walk here a lot. Its 3.5 miles around but I stretch it out to over 6 by turning around at the bridge that crosses over the street and heading back. Pretty views of the water.
Has a fenced in beach area for dogs. Great walking trails. Cost $6 per car to go in
