Amazing Museum what are the best back in time history lessons you can have so many different aspects of the museum and the grounds are beautiful as well
Visit this at night. What a beauty to behold!Only con is that there are too many people lol so its harder to get a decent picture. Other than that, for someone who enjoys this kind of place--im all for it. Really really beautiful!
It is a wonderful little place that is a few blocks from Old Pasadena and you would definitely miss it if you didnt know about it.I recommend checking it out as they do have a changing exhibit about the history of Pasadena. The estate is really pretty and I will have to come back another day when it isnt raining for a full tour.It is a beautiful little piece of history filled with so many stories and art.
In a historical Mansion just the right size to go through in about an hour to look at all the exhibits. Ive been making trips down to the Los Angeles area 4 over 10 years but I never knew about this place and Im glad I discovered it because I learned something new about the history of Pasadena I never knew there was a Shakespeare Guild as well as an affiliation with ostriches.
Quiet, cozy and informative. A special exhibit of women painters was on at the time I visited including three by African-American women which I liked. The small plot of grounds are plush. Ill visit again in the near future.
This is a great little museum. I went for a special exhibition of which you can see in my pictures, but they have an outdoor area and you can see a historic house of the Pasadena area. There is a little gift shop that is nice as well.
Interesting. Luxurious French style residence of 1930s,
Our first trip to this little jewel of a museum. We saw a fantastic exhibit of (largely) unknown California women artists. This was prompted by the mammoth 4-volume series that was published last year on the same subject, and we were fortunate to have a 2-hour (!) tour given by one of the two co-authors of the book, Joseph Moorsman. Just excellent!
Beautiful architecture.!!!. its open on Friday and Saturdays.. sadly I couldnt view the interiors
Went their as part of the art walk. Great exhibit.
Beautiful colonial museum, interesting history. Hidden I had never heard of it but very beautiful. All original furniture.
Nice location with nice & well informed staff. Interesting history in an interesting city.
Very nice little exhibit, but wish admission was less for how small it is.
Beyond disappointed! We had come rather far out of the way to visit one of the very few places with an emphasis on my families Finnish heritage. When I entered, and tried to inquire about visiting, the lady at the counter was IMMEDIATELY condescending! I have been to museums all over the world and never, have I experienced this. I am beyond grateful that my daughters had not yet come in to hear such negativity about wanting to learn more about their culture. This was a truly appalling experience and no matter how important it is to me to educate my children, it will certainly not be here!
I love seeing historical houses that are still intact and also the house has 90% of the original furnishings.
Beautiful grounds and great place to take pictures, but none of the exhibits were open when we went.
Love this place, its small enough to see everything and not overwhelming in size that youre not totally exhausted when u leave. They are constantly changing their venues which is nice.
It was a nice and simple gallery, but there was no grand overall intent with the art. I wonder if this is normal?
I had no idea about how many beautiful gems there are in the area. I was looking for something very inexpensive to do with friends and not the same usual things that most people do. We went here and the amount of history that is in this area and the amount of information and things that you can learn is outstanding! I have been living here for over 20 years and to finally discover the routes and the history of this place makes me very happy! I highly recommend that any city that you live in you check out the Museums in that area to see how the place developed and who was responsible for the place in which you live. Otherwise history repeats itself and if you dont know what the history is how will you know how to correct it? Pasadena is amazing!
Nice location with nice & well informed staff. Interesting history in an interesting city.
Nice quite small museum. Exhibit was on early California women artists. A block away from the Gamble House.
Was not aware of the size of the museum before entering. Would have expected a larger display for $8
The only thing was the traffic to go there..overall worthy
After driving over an hour to get here, I was extremely disappointed! First off the website makes it seem like there is more to this museum than there really is. We went to see the advertised history of the Pasadena area and a special exhibit as advertised. The website also tells us that if we arrive by 12:15 there is a tour of the historic home next door. All this for only $9 per person. Upon entering to pay the admission, the clerk tells us that the fee is $17 per person!? The home tour costs extra though it is not stated as such on the web. Also the only thing to view in the museum is the special exhibit. When I expressed my confusion, the clerk became condescending and rude. I will never step foot in here again, and recommend you do the same. There are plenty of historical places and museums in the area that you will not be disappointed by....avoid the Pasadena Museum of History- it is not worth your time!
Great museum, filled with Pasadena history!
This was simply the worst museum experience of my entire life. I thought I was at the wrong place, but after triple-checking I indeed was in a place called Pasadena museum of history and furthermore, people here seem to be reviewing the same place and giving it 5 stars? Stranger things have happened I guess... OK, but to the point: After paying 6 dollars for a student entrance fee (wow, what a discount from the regular fee which is 7 dollars), I was genuinely excited to learn about Pasadena history and ready to explore the exhibit. The exhibit turns out to be two small rooms with some dresses (!) that took us about a minute and half to explore. Apparently the dresses is the current exhibit, which I should have checked online, but I dont think I can be blamed for expecting a real museum from a place called Pasadena museum of history without having to look up that its worthless. I was going to demand my money back, but my friend convinced me not to. We browsed the gift shop, which entertained us for about 3 minutes, because it is not interesting at all. Please dont come here!!!! Instead, go to an actual museum like for example the Norton Simon museum, which is excellent.
Small museum. Had a lot in the 2 rooms we got to look through. Outside they had a small Finnish house that you could walk through and a mini mansion tour.
We decided not to cook dinner and just wanted something light and a drink. Great happy hour menu before 6pm. Drinks and special menu. Perfect. Great, quick service
This is a quite small museum - just two large rooms and the entrance lobby plus a gift shop. When we visited the entire exhibit was of the historical dresses for the queen and princesses of the Rose Parade. This was a bit of a disappointment as we were hoping to learn more about the city. I understand that the exhibits change regularly and we should have checked their website before walking all the way from the Del Rey light rail station on the Gold Line (about a mile). I was very impressed with the archives located in the basement. The librarian there was able to help me find the location of the hotel owned and run by my great grandfather in the early 1900s and offered to look through their extensive collection of photographs going back to the 19th century.
This place is so beautiful with such a great history! I love it. The exhibits are wonderful and there are so many great things in the gift shop.
Excellent exhibits every time I go there. I recommend PMH to all my friends.
This little museum always has interesting exhibits. Its a small place, so if you are short on time, do nt worry, youll view the entire exhibit in less than 1 hour. I am a big fan of their gift shop. Youll find lots of items made from local artists, including paintings, blankets, cloth books, and artisan jams and jellies. If you are visiting Pasadena and want to bring back a unique gift for friends or family, visit the gift shop. The prices are great.
Great museum. Dont miss a tour of the Fenyes Mansion.
There is a lot of cool Sci-fi type things here. We went during MOTA day in Pasadena. The entrance was free and they had people dressed up as fiction characters. They were all very friendly and love taking pictures with the children, The place is not huge but there are a lot of interesting things here.
Excellent service and food and was very fun
Their website is very misleading. I drove several hours to come here to find out the information on their website is inaccurate. The website has it as $9 a ticket but they are actually charging $17 a person. And they offer absolutely no discounts all including veterans. Im extremely unimpressed by how the employees carry themselves. They were flat out rude and very disrespectful towards customers.
Step into the home and you are stepping into the past. So much to see and imagine.
I have only been once but will gladly return. Really enjoyed the tile exhibit & next time want to see the mansion
I worked as a docent there while in middle school, so I thoroughly studied and learned the museum. Its a great place to find the background of Pasadena, and its pretty small, manageable too.
Got the opportunity of seeing artwork from my Grandmother I grew up with. A special day!
Small but had a great exhibit inside. friendly staff.
I enjoyed the Rose Parade Queens exhibit very much.
Very small museum, but a fun exhibit.
For anyone interested in artisanal achievements, especially the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th century, this is a must. (Even if youre not, its fascinating!) Ernest Batchelder built a kiln in his back yard, and from there a business grew and its beautiful products went to homes across the U.S. (The Fenyes mansion next door is a companion exhibit, but its open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so we missed it this time.) The museum store has a trove of books on Pasadena area history and more, with photos--worth seeing.
Beautiful garden.
Always enjoy the exibits and learning something new about the community!
Lots of rain that night.
A local gem of serenity.
Beautiful scenery
Its a museum... Educational & fun

Not much there really.

Its not a museum, its a gallery.
