Excellent museum with a beautiful relaxing koi pond in the middle courtyard area. They have a wonderful exhibit called The Box with photos and art utilizing the photos I highly recommend. Love the variety and dates ranges of artifacts from all over Asia. I was extremely impressed by the array of Fair Trade items in the gift shop. Each item is from artisans in the countries represented in the museum. I am a strong supporter of Fair Trade and for the museum to have so many items that benefit artisans with fair, reliable, safe, empowering work, while supporting the continuation of traditional crafts is absolutely wonderful.Great staff and the parking attendees went above and beyond as well. This museum far surpassed my expectations, highly recommend!
Beautiful Asian courtyard and informative exhibits about various East Asian and pacific Asian cultures.Few people there, so you can wander easily at your own pace. The permanent collections are a bit small, but the descriptions of artifacts are well written. The Kokei exhibit going on right now is well researched and has great descriptions of the characters in each kabuki character portrait.
Love the fact that there is ample parking at this location. Hours are standard for most museums and they have free admission Thursdays usually. Make sure to come with time if you actually want to understand what things mean. Many people make the mistake of going to museums and not reading or understanding what was going on in specific eras. By giving yourself a bit more time you will understand what the artist is trying to depict.
1-1.5 hour visit time.Free for all Museum Members, USC faculty, staff, and students with current IDFree for All Visitors Thursdays from 5-8pm and on the Second Sunday of the MonthStaff was friendly. AC was too strong, bring a jacket! If you park at the adjacent lot, be sure to ask for an unique quarter at the reception in order to leave the lot.Fight On
I love to visited places like that, soo pacefull
Lovely courtyard and building house this carefully curated museum. Helpful, friendly staff, too.
Fabulous journey through time, to places I have no idea how to begin to imagine. Its magic . Come, explore.
I can appreciate the collection, but it is very small. Most of the items here in the permanent collection can be found elsewhere. The special exhibit was a little more interesting. Really like their gift shot though. Bathrooms are weirdly only for women and all genders, no specific bathroom for men. Im sure theres a good reason for it, but it creates long lines for guys.
Small and to the point its a very interesting museum and very attractive lots to do and see, come down and check it out especially when you can catch an event its totally worth it. i recommend to everyone that likes museums
Nice little museum. Free parking.
Very nice and welcoming staff. Places to sit of youre disabled. Cool collection. Nice atmosphere
Such a beautiful and heart warming place. Cultural is a greatness of years built of love. Let many more come.
Cute but small museum. I felt like the inside was a little confusing to navigate which could easily be fixed by a few signs. The place is small but I almost missed an entire section of it because I didnt realize where some of the doors led.
Beautiful Asian garden, very Serene. Different ancient and modern Asian art.
This museum features a very diverse collection of Asian artifacts from different countries and dynasties. And the architecture of the museum is also inspired by the traditional Chinese architecture. The staffs working there are also very friendly. Overall, it is a great place to visit for anyone who is interested in East Asian cultures and civilizations.
Awesome building and cute courtyard with koi, small yet great permanent collection, so many different buddhas, some free parking in small lot on side.
The garden was very pretty. The museum had some cool stuff. It was inexpensive. The most enjoyable part was that there were very few people there, and we got each room to ourselves. Its totally worth checking out.
Great music and dance presentations. Art activity for kids, nice and gift shop has a variety of eclectic pieces. Oh and the ponds have large, colorful fish.
Very interesting! I love this place. A good start to learn Asian history, arts, and culture. Beautiful artifacts...
Had to come here for a class paper, first time here, it was nice, a bit small, there was alot of Buddhist and Hindu art and sculptures. They had an entire section dedicated to pottery. Enjoyed looking around at the different things they had.My favorite thing about this place was the open area in the center with a little pond trees and koi fish, it seemed like a chill spot to come and study. They offer free parking and have a gift shop with cool things. Its free for USC students staff and faculty and students from other schools get a discount.
It was nice but it seems like they have less pieces since the retrofit closure. The gift shop is still not finished being constructed.
It was nice, clean, and is a historical landmark. They had an event in their courtyard with authentic music and dance from Myanmar at the time. I liked the exhibit with Mexican influence in Japan from one artist. Very unique and interesting story. Would be nice if there were people that were around to answer questions or provide more information. There were a couple people at the entrance/desk but they just gave us admission stickers (it was free) and let us on our own. Wasnt warm or welcoming but its free so cant complain.
Beautiful collection of art from across Asia with a peaceful garden courtyard.
Very nice museum. A wonderful atmosphere and welcoming staff make it a great experience. The courtyard is also a. Nice place for relaxation. Highly recommend a drop by when they have special exhibits.
Great exhibits and friendly, knowledgeable staff. It’s affiliated with USC.
Small Asian art museum, beautifully set up. Permanent and changing exhibitions.
Always enjoy the peacefulness of this museum, and all the special exhibits as well.
Cultural history: good intro to Asian art/history especially for kids️
Lovely museum with a beautiful center courtyard and pond. My family loved it.
I love this place. Perfect place to take the family for an afternoon. It gives my kids a chance to see Asian art and sculptures. I try to give them some culture from time to time . It gets crowded on the weekends. Weekdays are better.
My first visit. Very impressive
Awesome place to visit for Asia arts. Friendly hosts and free parking. Courtyard and Koi Pond are beautiful
Very interesting!!! Amazed at all the art and information. 2 thumbs up!!
Good Asian MuseumVery convenient location
Friendly staff, unique and priceless artifacts. Plus It has a nice gift shop and coey fish pond.
Beautiful museum!! Great exhibits and such friendly staff!
A good museum. They have wonderful festivals that offer arts and crafts and performances for all ages. Their field trips are well done as long as the educational facilitator are calm. We, unfortunately, had an origami teacher that was a bit stressed.
An awesome collection with lots of unique sites. Makes for a great addition to an afternoon stroll in Pasadena. The only thing that I found to be confusing was the location of the entrance. The entrance was not clearly labeled to I ended up entered the museum from the back and went through it all backwards. This could have been easily resolved with some rope at the entrance. Just seemed silly that nearly everyone walks right passed the entrance.
So so.......For free its good. If you pay then not so much
Dont miss going in the courtyard to see koi
I did took my family there while they come to visit it was beautiful highly recommended
Its okay. Sorta underwhelming. It needs something.. Or feels like its missing something. I did appreciate how each room is an Asia territory. Its good to go when admission is free.
The museum: Good collection of Asian art works and treasures. Very informative and educational. Very small museum compared to other museums in LA.Admission: $15.The Parking: Private lot (FREE) or Street metered parking
Nice garden, important place.
A great gem in the middle of Pasadena!
Must have driven by a million times before I actually stopped. You could loose a day here looking at everything in the museum. However, if looking at beautiful pieces of history is not your groove -go there for the gardens, the quite, and the serenity. This is a wonderful site and museum.
Temporarily closed while they do seismic retrofitting of the building and remodeling to add more exhibition space. It will reopen early 2017.The museum is housed in a beautiful building with a large peaceful courtyard and has an interesting selection of art and works from various Asian countries and also has many programs and events. Worth checking out
Terrific wood cuts
The art showcased here is equal parts inspirational and informational
Free on Thursday evenings! Good history. Nice Koi pond!
Eventhough it is on smaller side some great pieces of Asian sculpture/art. One room tells the story of the Silk Road through Asia. I learned alot about it. I even enjoyed my lunch which I brought w/ me out in the patio. No place to purchase food/drink here. But old town Pasadena is near by.
Great little Pasadena Gem!
Pieces are marvelous. Security guard and front desk are so kind. Its peaceful and quiet and the place is spotless
Came to see the current at my exhibit of traditional fine art by CAC artists. It is a great show.
Nice place, but I only go when its free.
Such amazing artifacts and very good stories to go with them.
Ive visited twice so far. It is peaceful, few people, nice main collection of wooden statues and their book reading room is awesome because they have cultural clothing one can wear and take fun pictures with. Their center court is beautiful, with a mini koi pond and several stone statues. The epic clothing in the gift shop is all marked down, yet still above an average budget, in my opinion. Will visit again eventually.
...a beautiful place to remimd us all of who settled and built Pasadena and most of the San Gabriel Valley in Socal. Humble yourselves; know the true history.
Beautiful ️
Very small but well organized display, ample parking, you can take photographs (no flash), relaxing exterior middle garden around which the exhibition is displayed. Despite being so small, very interactive.
A quaint Asian museum in the heart of old Pasadena. The general admission is free for the permanent exhibits but there is a fee for other art galleries. The PAM is a small museum with a tiny garden and a pond filled with koi fishes.
The recent renovation significantly improved the gallery spaces, but they lost their gift shop in the process.
The museum is not open yet but the Grand Reopening will take place on December 8th Its looking real good!
This is a small museum with Asian artefacts. This is not really my interest so I can’t say whether they were of any significance.
A good start to learn Asian history, arts, and culture. Beautiful artifacts...
Very interesting collection. Was going through renovations so could see everything.
Very small, very nice. i liked they had a little modern art as well. the courtyard is pretty and nice to hang out in.
Beautiful Asian museum.amazing place
A hidden gem that fortunately not enough people know about. Went to the free 2nd Sundays and renewed my membership for a discount. Great program that day with presentations and of course, the exhibitions were in fine form.
It was nice. It had awesome Chinese architecture
Small but nice museum (should be just Asia, not Pacific Asisa...)
Visiting museums makes me feel like a tourist. However there are museums worth visiting, like this one. They do not present things here, they present ideas. Do visit.
A quick museum to get through, but it has a dense and thoughtfully arranged collection if you take time as you go through to notice the descriptions. Now on a more financially sustainable footing under USC ownership.
Nice, 1st time going during the Free So Cal art day.
I went during the art tour and loved the experience.
Nice place andbhave an amazing koi pond
Well they arent open to the public yet they are closed for retrofitting my husband wirks there and toik me for a walk thru alot of big changes itll be beautiful the grand reopenibg will be held on december 8 plan on visiting they are emptying and cleaning out the koi pond and getting ready to bring the koi to their new home!
Nice museum, not too large. Appealing objects, nicely displayed, staff friendly and helpful.
Small museum but it is pretty cool. You can take Tai Chi classes here too.
A relatively small collection that is trying to cover a very broad area. There are some things on an audio tour, but you need to phone a number and enter a code for things to hear. This place could be so much more.
Informative and well curated museum friendly staff
Very interesting exhibits. The exhibits here are very interesting, but the real gems are the performances. During the summer months, there are dance performances and parties on Friday nights. Entrance to the performance includes entrance into the museum. If you are on a budget, go during Pasadenas bi-annual ARTNight. Entrance is free during ARTNight. This museum is currently owned and operated by USC.
Paid extra for The Real Taste (Ming dynasty) exhibit, was disappointed with most of the exhibit. Short, not enough items, and lacking furniture (what Ming is well-known for)$18 per person is a bit too much. Will be visiting the sunrider collection next time...
As an asian myself its something i am familiar with... but for non-asians they will enjoy the asian feel and will have an idea of how refined asian culture is. Drop by if you have time to spare.
Wonderful
Loved the museum, especially the new textile exhibit
Beautiful place
The museum is open! But make sure to look out for the admissions desk (down the main hall, first door on the left).
Was glad to see USC hosting performances by Chinese singers and dancers for lunar new year
Great way to learn more about Asian culture
Great place.
Excelent
Small museum ... with fun activities ...
It was not the free family day as posted on Google! Darn!
Somewhat limited collection, and the price is a little bit high. Still a fun visit nonetheless.
Had Chinese New Year event with KungFu demonstration
Recently remodeled with new exhibits.
Tru
Small but interesting museum.
