Compass Pointe is not bad. The problem is the weekend rates they charge are for a pristine course, but they provide an average product. Greens are ALWAYS very dimpled by ball marks. Tee boxes are hit or miss. Bermuda grass fairways are usually fried every summer. And the course overall has pretty poor drainage. Play compass on a weekday afternoon and youll get your moneys worth. If you go on a weekend, then prepare to be underwhelmed. Timbers is in much better condition and costs the same. Waverly is better than both and costs about 10 bucks more per person. Bulle Rock is in much better condition and is cheaper. Pretty much any course out west or Montgomery County course are in better shape and the same price or cheaper. For the amount of options you have to golf in Maryland, I would recommend spending your weekend elsewhere and saving this one for a weekday.

I could not believe how terrible the greens were today. They have been aerated and there was hardly any grass but tons of sand . I shoot on the green n you see the sand pop up .You could not even putt cause the ball bounced the entire time . Wish I knew this before playing cause I would taking my money elsewhere . We have been having some really bad storms over the past couple days the couse was absolutely just soaked. All the tee boxes ALL THE TEE BOXES were soaked as well. Couldn’t find a dry spot anywhere .

Greatly improved playing conditions. The Bermuda fairways play much better. Nice variety of holes. Staff in the pro shop and the starters were very friendly. They have a halfway house/snack bar and a smallish pro shop. Good sized range.

Very disappointing to see how down hill this course has gone. Greens were in terrible shape, Fairways needed work, driving range closed and practice green was rough. The worst part of it was the large number of staff was more concerned about overkill covid regulations, rather than providing a pleasant experience for golfers.

I’ve played the courses here countless times over my years living in the area. Challenging course with a good layout. Pro shop staff is always kind. However, given the price you pay, it is never in good condition. There are un-repaired ball marks everywhere. Fairways have gotten better with drainage over the years which is good. I really think they just don’t have enough resources to manage 36 holes. Regardless, given the pandemic environment, it’s a good way to socially distance (even with several confirmed cases of COVID in their staff). My opinion on the course changed when I played this weekend and encountered Compass’ beverage cart employee, Cindy. She was rude, uncivil, and angry.... a shocking attitude to have when the majority of your compensation is generated through tips. I’m hoping she was just having a bad day, otherwise I’m not sure how she got through the interview process. If Compass got rid of her and kept the course in better shape I’d come back more often.

Where do I begin.Greens were in awful shape.Fairways were swamps in some areas.Bunkers were more like ponds.Grounds crew were a constant distraction. We played the first 9 holes with lawn mowers and blowers constantly around us, Whoever I spoke to in the pro shop was rude and unwilling to help.Cart paths were in terrible shape. We were told Cart Path Only but every other player I saw were all over the course/ lack of rule enforcement.Thankfully won’t be taking my business here again.

I played here on January 5, 2020 and the course was in very poor condition. After a rain the previous day, the course was soaked. Greens looked like the moon from all the craters stemming from ball marks. Greens are the speed of fringe on a normal course. The layout of the course and sightlines are beautiful--despite being extremely challenging. I probably wont return, because of the subpar range balls and the fact i hate hitting off mats, but this could be a nice course with proper care.I didnt expect a spring time Augusta, but having 10 ball marks in my line en route to the hole on a 15 footer, makes for a poor experience.

Good shape for the middle of a very harsh winter. I played here last Thursday afternoon. As always the staff are friendly and attentive. The practice area at this course is stellar!!! A hidden gem which may be the best in the immediate area! Great putt and chipping area, plenty of mats with ample targets and a practice bunker left of the range. My round was cart path only which was expected after heavy overnight rain. Still didnt stop me from enjoying the 60°+ day in the middle of February. The course was in very good shape. Drained very well! The greens and fairways are surviving the winter better than expected. The bunkers were par for most courses in the area after a overnight mid winter rain storm. I really like how the grounds crew are continuing to cut back growth while addressing and eliminating many hazard areas. This will eventually speed up play and lower my handicap. Win/win! It was a pleasant experience overall and cannot wait for spring!

Compass charged me for a round that they say I no showed for when I did in fact call them and cancel. They didn’t even notify me of this until over a month later. Extremely rude Marshall named bill. Starting yelling and being extremely rude when he approached us during play. Had he allowed me to finish what I was saying and maybe investigate the issue he would have found out why our group was slow because the group ahead constantly walked and didnt use their carts properly. So our group was right behind them and kept getting hung up because of it. . He chose to cut me off from talking and berate me.

Love that they offer 36 holes. Course this year is in great shape. Always see wildlife, deer & resident Eagle. Staff are always friendly. Only downside, when booking on-line for your tee time, not always accurate and even book when they have a tournament going on. This has happened twice this year and after driving all the way to get there, have had to turn around and leave

I played here yesterday June 28 2016. I found the course, staff and price to be fantastic. Everyone out there was friendly, the other golfers let me play through since I was a single. Really great experience. If you are a nice person who understands golf etiquette please come out and play this course. If you are a jackass please go play somewhere else. I played the North and the East course. The north was very open, a lot of bunkers and a few hazards here and there. Very scoreable. The east on the other hand was very difficult, tight fairways, guarded greens and long from the tips. I dont know if it was the heat or my brain but I fell apart after the 14 hole. Very mentally challenging. Great course though, love my experience I will def be back.

Just finished playing Compass Pointe. South and West Courses (10/12/15). The courses are in great shape and pace of play was excellent (4 hours). Really interesting and challenging (especially the West Course). The fairways are mostly lush and the greens and well maintained. For $38 bucks through their website, I think this is the best golf deal in the Baltimore/DC area.

Played it once in 2015 just to see if it was a better experience. First time back in years. I thought the course was in rough shape. One of the bunkers looked destroyed. Some forced carries seemed ill-placed for me. Didnt like the greens - felt like putting was a bit of a random exercise. Staff was friendly. I really want to like this course more but with limited time to play golf I have so many options that work better for me.

I am a regular at this golf course. I love it here. The staff is amazing however, after an experience I had recently, I will not be returning to this course. I have noticed multiple times, the same staff member being under the influence of something. The first few times I thought she was under the influence of alcohol until I witnessed her consuming drugs in the bathroom. This is very unprofessional. I will be contacting the appropriate authorities to have this matter handled correctly.

Its April and perfect golf weather. The South and West 9s are not in terrible shape but not good shape either. Very little drinking water found on the course and no beverage cart. No bathrooms to be found except at the clubhouse. And $3.50 for a large soda - $4 with a tip. yikes! One day soon Ill try the North and East 9s. I wish others who rate Compass Pointe would note which 9s they played.

Ive played here quite a bit the last few years and even have a pointe card. Not the best kept course by any means but hard to beat in value or convenience. Staff is always easy going and the place has a laid back atmosphere. No overly-strict rules / regs and other than the occasional upkeeping is kept quite well. Best yet, with 36 holes youre always able to get on without too much waiting or back-loading at holes.

What I really like about Compass Pointe is the rapport one can have with the staff when scheduling outings or even a tee time. We have scheduled several years worth of our Golf Association end of year function there and have been afforded North, East, South, & West for the event and a superior luncheon after event is over. Truly, we were blessed when CP management welcomed our yearly event and they allowed Wendy to handle our food services.

Played the North/East course today for first time and have to say since moving here from Kentucky this (so far) is the course Ive been looking for. This reminds more of the courses Im used to playing in KY. Staff were friendly, fairways and greens in good shape. Excited to go back as soon as I can to play the South/West course. As far as a negative I would say not thrilled to learn about switching to Bermuda grass in the fairways. Some courses in Ky do this as well and it stays dormant too much of the year. I am a fan of bentgrass for this climate and would like to see it stay that way but this wont keep me away, love the layout. Definitely recommend and really enjoyed my day. Just for reference around a 7 handicap.

The course could be one of the finest around if they took care of it. The greens on East are under repair. The bunkers are in bad shape and they were pumping the water out of them into the fairways(swamp). Not worth the $60 greens fee in those conditions.

I dont know they decided to build a course that had so many sand traps with no intention of keeping them up. I have played here 1 or 2 times/year for 10 years and the sand traps are really sad. I asked the starter about this and he got a little pissy with me about how much it cost to maintain sand traps. See my original sentence in this review.Besides the sand traps, the course is harder than your standard muni. You can add 5-10 stokes to your game here. I dont know why I play here. You are much better off making the ride up to Baltimore County golf courses.

My scores would be higher if the prices were less. This is a muni course (AA County), that is charging between 55 and 75, depending on which 18 you play. There are 2 18 hold courses. The course itself is maintained well, but this is a 45 to 55 course. They run price specials sometimes, so its worth it to sign up for the email alerts, but the course is not worth the money at full price.

Played The North/East Course on 9/15/2013 under deplorable conditions. The bunkers were all washed out, The fairways, especially on the East nine, were mostly dirt and the greens were average at best. We teed off at 8:00AM and finished at 2:10PM. I do not see how this facility is going to remain open much longer under these conditions. It is really quite depressing.
