This can be an expensive outing for a family. Especially if you’re just going to do a short hike on one of the popular trails. Admission is $12.50 per adult and $6.00 per child 12 and under. On the other hand, if you live nearby and intend to hike here frequently, an annual pass is well worth the investment of $90.There are dozens of diverse trails of varying length and difficulty. The less popular ones are often the most beautiful and solitary. Be adventurous. There’s a lot to explore and discover. My favorite trails are:West Fork North Loop TrailIndian Potrero Loop TrailMurray Canyon Trail to Seven Falls
Gate lady was rude. I had my dog in the car, literally was just going to drive around and check out the trading post since we already hiked today. He was never going to leave the car (yes I leave the car running for him). I pull up and ask if they take card and all she said was no dogs. I said he wouldnt be exiting the car and she just repeated no dogs. Cool. Bye. Dont come here if you have a dog in the car. Infact dont come here if you have a dog period. We wont stop till we have equality my canine brothers and sisters.
Fantastic scenery - palms, creeks and canyons. I can recommend the hike to Seven Sisters falls, easy with great views, youll have to cross the creek several times over logs/rocks. The Palm Canyon at the end is also quite picturesque and very easy, dont necessarily follow up into the desert at the end of the canyon as there is little more there. Be aware that they close the place at 5pm so plan accordingly as you will have to be out by then if you dont want you car towed away.
We were looking forward to a nice hike, to the 7 sisters water falls. We get to the gate a few minutes before they open at 8am. There was a lady in the office, after waiting till 5 Minutes after 8, we approached the window, and asked the lady if they would be opening. And her reply was does it look like were are opening?. Ridiculous! Websites all say they open, nothing posted saying that they are closed.
Easily accessible from Palm Springs. The trees themselves are wonderful and I’d say certainly worth the few bucks to get in and see them. We hiked the West Fork Trail for a bit of a challenge and it was great. 3-4 hrs round trip, bring sun protection. I wish we had planned on walking more in the trees afterwards and lunch down there as well.
Such a beautiful place for hiking, photographing, picnicking, and family outdoor fun! I did the 4mile hike to 7 sisters waterfalls and crossed the creek 19 times! Kids would love that! I would say it was a moderate hike with some elevation gain and good balance needed for a few of the crossings. Saw lots of horses and people. Wouldnt want to do it in the summer heat, I was here in February and it was PERFECT! Then I picnicked afterwards
Very rude lady at the front gate. I believe she’s the owner. Pray peace for her. She was very rude to us. Also, beware of rattle snakes. Scary.
My friend and I came from Washington State to visit. The hike itself is on the easier side, but with the heat it can get hot The falls was amazing. You can swim to it and there are plenty of shady areas to eat lunch. A must see!
Hiking Tahquitz Canyon Indian Canyon! This weekend, we made our very first trip to “Indian Canyons” to hike and photograph the Palm, Murray, Andreas, Tahquitz and Chino canyons. Considering I’ve been coming to Palm Springs as a kid since the 1960s, I’m surprised it took me so long to make a visit! Great place for hiking and photography while visiting Palm Springs.
Indian Canyon is a beautiful expanse located in Palm Springs and it offers some incredible hiking opportunities as well as endless desert landscapes to take in. It took about 15 mins sitting in the car line at the entrance, but a small price to pay for what you get. Admission is $9 per adult and they do accept credit cards.
Indian Canyon is aethestic. The hike was good and the scenes was awe in wonder. Our family had a pleasant time.
Worth going to. The Palm hike is easy and offers great views. The gift shop is cute just with it had more stuff from the local Indians
Fun hikes but obviously very hot once the suns out. Recommend early morning and lots of water
Such a fun trip, kids loved the water and rocks and lizards on the hike.
Amazing! Much gratitude for the Cahuila tribe for sharing such a beautiful and well maintained treasure of nature splendeur.
I’m assuming this place was beautiful but it was unfortunate to have driven a long way to find out it is closed, to make this experience worse the lady Jannette was very rude assisting me when I asked if there was anything else in the area that I can visit. I was unhappy with her attitude as we approached to talk to her to ask her questions because we were unfamiliar with the area she was short spoken so we didn’t get any advice, un top of that she didn’t even let us turn around as we entered, she had us back up all the way back. I’ve been to many visitors centers and pay stations but this one was by far the worse experience I’ve had. She was probably mad because she had to get up to come outside to assist us with her unpleasant job. Thanks Jannette, you’ve made this trip a hot one, no wonder your rude..
A beautiful place to go and explore . The reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is the rude lady at the front gate :) just be prepared and don’t let her ruin it for you
It was a beautiful, tranquil canyon hike. I will definitely be going back.
What a great place to go hike.. an oasis in the desert.
Murray canyon trail was very nice. Watch out for the rocks along the shoulder of the road. I ran into one while taking a sharp turn.
Always a great place to visit. I love the Native American history and beautiful desert environment
This is a 10 minute drive from Palm Springs. This is not a state park so you get charged $12.50 for adults and 9$ for kids. Palm Canyon hike is 12 miles. Murray Canyon hike is 5 miles long.Andreas Canyon hike is 1 mile long in a loop. I recommend Andreas Canyon if you are bringing children. It runs along a small creek which is great for pictures and you can keep yourself and your kids cool in hot temperatures.
Best Park Ever if you like to follow water stream and see waterfalls all within minutes of parking lot!You can make it a day with picnic lunch or an hour visit...worth every minute. Wonderful Native American history. Find books/brochures in gift shop.LTStroker
Had a good time with my boy..
This wasnt our first hike of the day, as a matter of fact, we got here just after lunch. I could easily have spent more than the rest of the day, and probably a few more walking on all the trails in this park. Exceptional hiking tracks, shade when its hot, a the opportunity to get lots of sun if its a bit cool out. There were trails that either followed the small creeks, or some that crossed from one side to the other. When we were there (early February), the water was running pretty high (thats a comparative term), but still reasonably easy to cross. Im not aware of its drinkability, unless your a horse (of course) - check with park authorities when paying for your parking pass. Large parking area, some of it in the shade. Download the trails to your phone, and youre off on a wonderful hike. Not sure of cell reception, thats probably something else you can ask at the entrance gate.
Amazing place in the heart of California! Worth visiting, we loved it.
This is a group of beautiful Canyons comes with many enjoyable trails for hiking, horseback riding and picnic area. It is very beautiful after winter rain.
Lovely place...I need to visit in beginning of year so maybe some water is present...Over all great time...
A lot of good hiking trails. Worth the $9 entry. We hiked all 3 trails and wished we had gotten there with more time. December was a nice time to hike for temperature! Take water no mater what time of year.
I went down into Indian canyons in order to do a painting. There were several people hiking the trails, but not too many to spoil the beauty of the Canyon and huge California Fan Palms that line the stream. While the trail may be too narrow for handicap access, the trading post and partially covered sitting area with tables provides a lovely place to sit and overlook the canyon.
An interesting place to visit and understand how tectonic forces have created both the oases and the hills in the area. Walking along the stream among the 70 Palm trees in the cool shade was a nice change from the surrounding desert. Be sure to catch the guided ranger hikes for more information about the land and native people.
Always beautiful. Well maintained and clean. $7 with student ID.
Wow. What a great experience! A must go if visiting the area. We were fortunate enough to see the rare big horn sheep. In fact one of them kicked a rock down which nearly hit my wife. We were able to see them from below and above.
There isnt any scenic sight, if you just want to do hiking here, it is probably fine. Unfortunately I was came for scenic view and animal viewing, and I was very disappointed.
A hidden treasure! Little waterfall. Flowing stream. Shade of palm trees. Cool breeze!
I’m sure the park is beautiful but their rules are a complete disgrace. We went to the park with our dog and nowhere did it say that you could not bring dogs when entering. We exited and asked for a refund; and I went to speak with “a Karen” at the front who had no problem taking our money and not telling us about dogs. I asked her to show me where it says that dogs are not allowed, and she pulls up the website (as if everyone looks at the website, and keep in mind I asked her how often people go to the website and she said 5%- exactly my point). She then proceeds to tell me it’s also on the packet she gave us, after she took our money and failed to do the basics of her job, which is to let people know the rules. She refused to give us a refund for “dogs” and I asked her to just give us a pass to come back tomorrow and she wouldn’t do that either. The lack of doing your basic job function is incredible and the lack of being able to reason with people for your lack of incompetence is even more outstanding when you clearly know you were in the wrong and couldn’t be reasonable. Thank you for reminding everyone why California takes advantage of everyone and why people like you, who don’t even want to try to be kind and understanding, are such terrible employees.
Nice place for a hike, especially when its not too hot outside
A small but interesting place, we only did a small hike in Andreas Canyon which was very enjoyable. They charge per person as opposed to per vehicle. A ton of hummingbirds up by the store, which is always fun to watch.
A must do! This trail is unbelievable.
Spectacular place. I have gone several dozen times. its on the San Andreas fault and the water bubbles up out of the ground amongst the palm trees. Awesome and well worth going to. Got to see the pup fish which is an endangered species.
We enjoyed our hike in Indian Canyons. Our group decided on Victor Trail. After an easy walk through the tall Palms the next segment was a nice climb. Recommend good foot wear as both the ascent and decent can be a bit of a challenge.
What a beautiful place, just minutes from Palm Springs. Lots of EZ hiking to more strenuous hikes. Im having an issue with my right knee, so could only go so far, but was thrilled with what I was able to do and see. Fun day trip if in the area!
Great hiking to the waterfall. Take water, sun block, and wear a hat.
Amazing hike!Potential issue: we didnt have a car and had to walk back 2.5 miles to the tollgate to get Uber.
Nice little Oasis in the desert with natural beauty. Worth a visit. We hiked the Andreas canyon and was fairly easy only took about 20 minutes walking at a leisurely pace.
This is a hidden gemBeautifulWild
Very peaceful scenic place. Beautiful Canyons.
Awesome horseback & hiking trails. Beautiful!
Most trails are just simple and boring desert-style ones. Not that much to see and $9/person is a bit too much for a company of people
Beautiful scenery, short drive from down town Palm springs. Have trails for every type of adventurer medium-advanced.
This was great. Really enjoyed our hikes here. The palm oasis is very cool. Interesting path on Victor trail.
Beautiful area, but gift shop and main gate are extremely understaffed. Very long waits at both.
Grat place for a hike a must see
A lot of trails to hike and scenic.
Enjoyed visiting the canyons with the family. Just make sure you dont visit on a windy day, too much dust kicks up in the air and the dried up falling palm fronds can be a real hazzard.
Don’t bother. Rudest staff and rangers I have ever encountered. They allowed dogs to some people and not others. Ticket booth ladies were nasty and rude. They don’t have visible signs saying no dogs or no refunds. They didn’t ask us if we had a dog and then we had to argue for an hour before they refunded us.There are way better places to hike in that area.
Always welcoming, beautiful, and possible to find those wonderful places where you can actually hear silence. Or a whisper from 200 feet away. Bring and Drink more water than you think you need.
Off the beaten path, amazing to visit. Great nature walk and even have a native indian shop. Reasonable price.
I love the trails here.Magnificent Groves of Palm trees the most anywhere along with bubbling streams of spring water and beautiful rock formations
Simply Beautiful! A great place to visit even if you arent a hiker.
Excellent park. Variety of trails to choose from. A gem in Palm Springs. We hike these trails when in PS.
If you are going to charge $9 a person you should at least make the effort of customer service. The lady at the gate was extremely rude, dismissive, unhelpful and couldn’t care less about customers. We didn’t even enter as the day we were there the card machine was not working. But the lady at the gate did not make this known at all. She simply said cash only when I handed my card over. I said where does it say that. She responded nowhere. I then mentioned the sign at the front said debit and credit are accepted. It was at this point she said the machine was not working due to the wind. So I asked if i can pay on exit (when the machine might be working again) or is there an atm nearby so I can get cash out. The response was go back to Palm Springs to get cash out in the most rude and dismissive manner. We decided we weren’t going to drive 15-20min back to town and then the same again back to the canyon. We would have if we had received decent customer service, but not after that terrible experience. So make sure to bring cash as I imagine if the reader doesn’t work in the wind then it would be down fairly often. In summary, we visited oases in both Joshua Tree NP and the Coachella Valley preserve. Both were stunning and the staff there were amazing. I’m sure the oases at Indian Canyon are beautiful but at $9 a person you are better off spending your time and money at Joshua Tree or Coachella Valley where the staff actually want to help make your visit enjoyable and the landscape is also stunning.
The hike to the stone pools is definitely outstanding with silent surroundings. We were alone most of the time. The East Fork Trail is fantastic and if you have 3.5 hours it is a much better way to get to the stone pools than the more popular, direct and exposed route of the Palm Canyon trail. We returned via the Palm Canyon trail because is was faster and the sun was going down (so it was a good time to go that route). We left the trading post at noon and returned at 345pm. I’m glad we took the wrong turn (east fork instead of palm canyon; my attached photos explain) because I think the East Fork is better when the sun is blazing overhead. Essentially you take the East Fork trail heading SE then head south on the East Fork Loop trail then West on the Dry Wash trail then south on the Indian Potrero trail (10-15 min to stone pools from the start of this trail). Return is directly north back along the Indian Potrero trail to Palm Canyon Trail (about an hour to the trading post). Bring at least 1L of water per person (I started the hike well hydrated), a hat, food, flashlight, a light jacket, a signal mirror, swiss army knife, a whistle, a compass and use the map that they give you at the tollgate. This loop is a mix of easy, moderate and strenuous. My husband and I are relatively fit and in our mid 50s. This was definitely one of the top hikes in greater PS for me.
Very refreshing hiking at the Indian Canyons
Best place for kids.
Great hiking, $9 entry, but as long as the $ goes to support the local community, this area and keep it clean its worth it.
Perfect place to go hiking, enjoy nature, and meditate, my favorite place in the desert.
One of the quickest and easiest ways to experience a desert oasis. This place has a few short and wonderful hikes as well as longer ones for more experienced hikers.
Great family hike with 9 and 12 year old. We went an hour in to the sisters falls and an hour back. Easy hike and lots of fun crossing the creek many times. You gotta pay to get into the park, but great exercise.
Nice area great hiking
We took a wonderful hike to a waterfall. Loved it.
Gorgious and interesting. An oasis in the desert with amazing palms.
Went hiking there a couple times and I just loved it!! I love all the hummingbird feeders at the store.
Grate and so different to other places I visited but very small park...
Great place for a hike, plenty of great options to choose from no matter what your hiking level is.
Should make sure it is open. Check call.
For active seniors who want to experience a beautiful desert oasis, visit Indian Canyons and walk the Adreas Loop (1 mile). The trail follows along a creek bed and through breath taking palm trees. Eat your lunch at a picnic table and just listen to the silence. A camera is a must. This adventure was a highlight of our visit to Palm Springs and we will definitely return . Although the trail is not very long, we took our time, took pictures and enjoyed this wilderness for about 3 hours.
Great time can be done quickly or you can take your time
It was beautiful. Good for the body, good for the soul.
Wonderful place to escape.
Beautiful soulful place.
Closed during weekdays and very hot in the summer, this nature walk is a vast expanse of Oasis in the middle of the desert. I recommend taking good shoes and a towel for when you get wet as you will get your feet wet on parts of the trail.
Beautiful hike. Amazing geology.
This an amazing place. We visited Indian Canyon with our friends from Europe and they were so suprised about this oasis in the middle of the desert.
I am always a little leery when I hike alone but there were so many people, including families, that I felt safe. The trails have multiple splinters, so if the trail narrows too much, just try another. The road in is really long, and you have to pay to park, but it was worth it. Due to unseasonably cool weather, there was more water and flowers. I got some beautiful photos.
There are some great trails to walk on, varying difficulty levels, and really beautiful scenery. This year, everything was so green because of all the rain they had during the winter.
No dogs, no parking & no mention of this. THIS IS YOUR NOTE. I can only guess people would not clean up after the dogs.
Gorgeous walk! Highly recommended.
An oasis to hike to and in. Walk along the stream under the Washingtonia palms and enjoy the cool in the middle of the desert. Scramble up the waterfall, enjoy the cactus when theyre blooming. Bring water, good hiking shoes, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
Sooo many wonderful trails and well marked!!!
The most fantastic place in the Desert to explore!
Beautiful up here by the Trading Post!
I love hiking in this area. I have hiked these canyons many times and will continue to do so .
Beautiful little park with fabulous scenery. Theres a couple of easy hikes that anyone can do - young or old. Very interesting to see the Palm trees in the desert with the little running stream. There are picnic tables near the parking spaces.
