Minimal art. Just didnt appeal to my taste. Was shocked that the one Chihuly was actually dusty, what a disservice to an amazing artist. For the billions of dollars in Palm Springs and the movie star enclave this was a disappointment big time.
FANTASTIC museum! If you are in PS for a visit you need to stop there and enjoy the beauty of the art! They have a super cohesive permanent collection, in combination with good quality rotating exhibits. The garden outside is quite nice, and you have a bar with food next to it.If you an art lover you must go
A very nice museum to visit. A little gem in the desert! Had a beautiful day admiring all the creative pieces inside and out. Would highly recommend!
This is a nice little area. Additions coming soon. Average museum. Not sure I cared for the interior visitor circulation path. Worth a visit to fill some vacation time.
I wish I was more into this museum but I find their installations too busy and the galleries are awkwardly laid out. Their current exhibition is great and the outdoor installation right across the street from them is interesting.
Great place to open my kids eyes to some amazing art work. Free admission and free parking. 1 block off the Downtown Palm Springs strip.
This is one of a kind sort of Art house. There are four levels full with a cafe in the basement. Currently they have an exhibit of a 40 min video of atomic explosions tests that happened in the 19 century. The sound and shear size of the blast is breathtaking. It really makes you think. Other items to not include but are not limited to the diversity of work held. Breathtaking ( stairs ).
I went out to Paln Springs to visit with family. My wife and I decided to stop in and see the Palm Springs Art Museum. I was very impressed. They have a lot of nice art and some interesting other pieces of art. The place was very clean and nice. The person working there was friendly and walked around us and showed us the paintings. We had a nice afternoon looking at some good art work. Highly recommend
Fantastic art museum with a wide range of exhibits! Much bigger than expected with great displays and lively atmosphere. Free on Thursday evenings, but always worth a visit.
A not so big museum with a larger than life collection! Some very very famous artists too! Like a Picasso a sculpture... Super interesting and diverse pieces of art. The building itself it also worth the visit! Outdoor sculptures with the mountains and palms as a backdrop is just perfect.
Great art museum featuring amazing artist. The native American collection is amazing as well. A must see in palm springs
Very nice place! Really beautiful architecture. I recommend
One of the most beautiful museums I have been to. Dont let the outside of the building fool you, its an absolute gem filled with amazing pieces on the inside. Dont forget to check out the Museum Trail right behind the museum for a forest hike an amazing view.
Really interesting modern art. Have some cool exhibitions at the moment including ‘unsettled’ which has a lot of different forms of art. The tour guide wasn’t very good all things we could see on the cards next to the paintings anyway. They also had some cool optical illusions and instillations.
A diverse and carefully curated collection of art. I enjoy the artworks a lot. A must see place in palm springs!
This was a unique museum. Very well done. It takes a couple hours to go through. I captured some great shots of a lot of the items on display. A nice place to visit at least once. May go back once more to bring my granddaughter.
Super solid given the town size. Great facilities for education—there were student classes and retiree groups. Nice curation and fantastic local funding and support to be able to acquire work of this stature. International cities of 4+ million people don’t have this level of art. And the restaurant is actually better than anything on the strip especially the service.
Love this museum. Permanent collection is world class and exhibitions are contemporary. I also enjoy the location next to San Jacinto mountains and downtown Palm Springs. Three levels with elevators, gift shop, cafe, and sculpture garden.
Not to be compared with other major metropolitan museums, the PS museum is worth the visit. The docents are very helpful and enthusiastic. Beside the permanent collection they do have rotating collections. There is a cafe and 2 outdoor gardens that are worth checking out. On Thursday between 4 and 8 p.m. admission is free. Lots of people take advantage of this opportunity.
This was a great way to end our trip. Not the National Gallery or MOMA, but a fine art museum, in a beautiful building, in a lovely setting, curated with taste. If I were an artist, this is where I’d like my work to be shown. The space was used to great advantage to bring out the best of art displayed, and it allowed for some installations to co-exist with hanging art work. A Chihuly glass sculpture was a bonus.
For one thing, its a nice air condition place to go in Palm Springs. But even if I compare the Palm Springs Art Museum two other art museums Id still give it 5 stars. They have indoor and outdoor exhibits, they keep it fresh with new exhibits constantly, and they have a childrens Zone. The museum is clean, the workers there are polite, and the store is filled with cool mementos. Take your kids, wife, or go alone but go.
Awesome place to view interesting art, they also have a theater and a bar that serves food.
This is a favorite museum, and my first stop whenever Im in Palm Springs. Love the building, quality exhibits and friendly/helpful staff.
Beautiful museum. Great place to go to get out of the heat. Free on Thursday evenings! Im not from the area, but when I visit and have a few hours to kill I make the trip to the museum. Good size collection for a relatively small city.
The place is strategically convenient to attend Village fest every Thursday. ...Plus its right in front the parking lot. ...The Mesuem is also free every Thursday night. ...So got to see it. ...Its arts are fascinating that a commoners like us cant understand. ...lol. ... (like the orange and yellow painting and others). ...Love some pieces. ...We had an interesting stroll at the Mesuem. ...
What an absolute pleasure. One of the best museums Ive been to hands down. Small enough to enjoy in an hour or two but big enough to make me feel like Ive really seem something special. Highly recommended.
Cost: $Rating: 4 starsTime: Takes about 1 - 2 hoursThe Palm Springs Art museum is relatively compact building at four stories but houses an interesting variety of art from contemporary to 19th native Indian artefacts from the local area. It houses an interesting array of post modern and modernist sculptures and artwork in its various exhibits plus lots of glass art sculptures from Prominent glass artistes like Chihuly. There are no super famous artwork but the curated collection on exhibit is eclectic and interesting for the guests.I like that the museum has a program where they train the school kids to become docent themselves so that those kids can train other kids to become interested in art.My tip: start at the top most floor and work your way down to the main floor.
Great collections, one of the best, well curated museum I have been in a long while.
Such a fun little oasis in Palm Springs. Classic modern art space on 4 floors (if you count the mezzanine). Recommend starting at the top and working your way down. The whole thing can be done in 2 hours.Pro-tip, theres a cafe on the garden or basement level where you can eat outside in one of the sculpture gardens.
Great exhibitions and outdoor space. Dont miss this wonderful museum.
One of my all time favorite art museums! Quite large with a varietie of different works with a fair amount of rotating exhibitions to come visit at later points while still being able to come in and enjoy some of the works you have seen last. There are plenty of nice bathrooms and it is well cooled inside. They ever have a neat outdoor sculpture garden. Prices are only 6 bucks for students (with ID) and if you have a roam pass or NAReciprocal you can get in free. They have large areas of free shaded parking and although I have not experienced either, they have a cafe and theater inside if you really want to spend some time here.
Wonderful assortment of modern art, unique, mind boggling visuals, mental food for the soul.
This is a gem. Every time I’ve come it’s been a real treat. This trip we came out from Pomona especially for the Girard exhibit. It was so beautiful and the docent giving the tour was incredibly knowledgeable about his life and work. The permanent collection has some real treats to be found as well. Cannot stress enough how fantastic this museum is.
Way better and bigger than I expected. Free tour
A beautiful medium size museum with a lot of different artworks. I really liked the textiles section.
Amazing. Be sure to join one of the free tours to maximize your experience.
Went to view their Unsettled exhibit. It was awesome! The administrators were extremely insightful and added just enough flavor in their commentary to help me really enjoy the pieces. It was my wife first time. We will definitely visit again!
This is a very nice place to visit if you are ever in the area free on Thursday a lot of interesting art pieces
This place is extraordinary. So peaceful and the staff is polite and willing to show you around. Its fairly affordable at $12 per adult and under for students, seniors, children and veterans. Every piece has a history.
Im not really a museum person, but this one really changed my mind. Very beautiful and interesting architecture. Love all the modern arts and sculptures. Im glad we visited there and spend few hours there.
What a great museum to visit!! Also great for kids, my girl from 10 loved it!!
Easily accessible to the public, no entrance fee, especially Thursday evening when the nearby Village Fest, which is a street fair with artisans and local companies close the street once a week. Wonderful casual and welcoming environment for both sites.
If you think desert= 0 culture youre wrong! This is an excellent museum that has an interesting permanent collection that includes some iconic mid century furniture and decor items. I have been there twice. Each time I came specifically for special exhibits. Even if you dont make the Palm Springs Art Museum your primary destination, its worth a visit. BTW, admission is free on Thursday nights!
Love this museum, grew up coming here. Love visiting everytime Im back home to see what new pieces are up on display.
Great afternoon activity! Docent was knowledgeable and passionate about Art.
One of the best museums I have seen. Spacious with nice collection.
Good collection of artwork. The space is very nice.
Very interesting pieces. Nice building. Very well located.
The Palm Springs Art Museum was definitely one of our highlights on our last trip to Palm Springs. Not only its architecture is really impressive, also the permanent collection and special exhibitions were excellent. Free admission every Thursday from 4:00 - 8:00 pm. The two other locations are also worth a visit.
Great museum on a hot summer day. Excellent cafe and gardens. Great with kids. Make sure you see the BASQUIAT downstairs.
In process of changing exhibits. Current art of not of great interest to me. Glass exhibit was I treating, and my wife enjoyed the 5 exhibits on the space around us (not outer space). Previous visit had a good western permanent art exhibit. But numerous people there were really into these exhibits.
One of the most impactful and beautifully curated museums I have been to so far. I loved the unsettled exhibit. It was so interesting so view all this art from a native American lense. We did the free guided tour and our guide was lovely. They do free entry every 2nd Sunday of the month. Well worth your time!
21+ night at a museum? Whatss not to love? The drinks are $12, which is not bad for SF. I have never been to a zoo or aquarium after age 12 because it is the cruelest thing in the world to keep animals in captivity like that. But Im glad to find that the Cal academy of sciences living animal exhibit are humane, mainly aimed to preserve endangered species.
Good art show, great break from the heat.
The traveling exhibits are fascinating. This is a very well curated museum, far better than one would expect for a small town like Palm Springs. Easy to spend an afternoon.
A beautiful facility. Enjoyed the top floor of modern art. The outdoor sculpture garden was also nice.
Palm Springs Art Museum has a fantastic assortment of unique arts that are not only have a diverse cast of artists but also often say something politically that moves you. I thoroughly enjoyed it.Except the trash bag art. That is literally piles of trash and doesnt have any meaning or statement about it.
An absolute must if youre in town. Its like an escape from reality when you get consumed by the pieces. One of a kind experience. Warhol collection is out and its exciting.
This is a very nice museum that features modetn art. The building itself is an architectural piece of art, which includes two pleasant outdoor sculpture gardens. The museum also displays regional baskets, pottery, and paintings. We very much enjoyed our visit.
Terrific museum. Great permanent collection & fascinating art shows - Gilbert Clark at present & an unbelievable Venetian blown glass exhibit. Terrific docents too.
Amazing museum! Entire staff is dedicated to providing visitors with a welcoming experience. Dont miss the Palm Desert location also. (different closed days)
It is not only historic, but modern also. I liked very much the big sphere made with aluminum cans. Young artists can show their talents.
Great curation of art and really interesting space! I was surprised and delighted to see Yoshitomo Nara’s dog at the entrance. We caught the Kinetic Latin American exhibit and it was fantastic. The rest of the contemporary art on the top floor was also very good.
Loved this museum. It is conveniently located in the heart of palm springs and next to a hiking trail. Perfect to combine a museum visit with a hike. They have nice events going on where you can practice your painting skills. Staff is very friendly.
Small museum but the exhibits were amazing. They had some special rotation exhibits we really enjoyed like the woman glass artists and the kinetic displays. Sharing a few pictures too.
Loved it!Many interesting and unique pieces all under one roof. Would definitely recommend if you are in the area.
You cant beat the range of art on display at this Museum! when we entered the building we were greeted by piles of brightly colored spices from around the world. It was nothing Ive ever seen anywhere else.
Great collection of (mostlt) modern art that is both relevant and fun to observe
Loved it lots! It’s small enough to enjoy each and every art piece. The excursions were informative by caring people. I scored an awesome t-shirt with an original print and colors.
Don’t miss the Art Museum. It has an amazing permanent exhibit as well as changing exhibits as well, so definitely worth the visit every time you are in Palm Springs. The building itself is an architectural highlight as well. Highly recommend it.
Great museum to visit while youre in town
Only saw the star walk and the sculptures in front of the museum because we actually came for the hike museum trail that starts here. Challenging hike over sticks and stones with quick elevation gain. After 10 min. of the hike you already have a great view over Palm Springs but the hike goes on.Loved the view!
Small, but nice. Several permanent pieces worth seeing and re-seeing, and new exhibits/collections every few months. Free admission Thursday after 4pm, so starting there and then going on to Thursday night Village Fest along Palm Canyon makes for a delightful afternoon/evening.
Bought a new Christian Lacroix journal to add to my collection from their gift shop revently. The museums array of art collections kept me out of the rain and mesmerized for a while.1 star off for a rather offputting gift shop employee whose disposition/tone/attitude was cold (dare I say snobby? ) when I asked a simple question about a product. Otherwise great experience.
Beautiful art work. I liked the decor.
Wonderful...dont miss this museum
Great Museum with a wide variety of art. Some thing for everyone. The docent led tour really provided good insights and context.
Some very interesting pieces at this museum!
Very cool museum. Beautiful architecture. Lots of Artful Events! They rotate exhibition every month / some not for everyones taste, but there is always something interesting/. Also films screening, lectures, diners etc. They will have murder mystery beginning of next year; wine tasting and Jay Leno - he is like everywhere!Very friendly stuff.
Its a nice museum for modern art. Its not tiny but its not huge. Some things if its rotate and some of them can be quite good. Its free Thursdays after 4:00 p.m..
Nice little art museum tucked away behind a large Starbucks location. I enjoyed the Andy Warhol print exhibit which was so awesomely displayed. This three story museum also has a nice gift shop for all ages.
We liked the garden and Picassos Angry Owl, the original angry bird, but did not enjoy some of the special exhibits. We felt they lacked good taste. But art is objective, and I am sure someone might find them interesting.
Amazing art and nice staff! Very inspiring. I highly recommend to any art lover!
This is the first time I was able to see living art. It was a good experience.
I usually make it a habit of visiting museums in cities I visit, as they’re often an insightful reflection of the place and the people there. I’ve been coming to Palm Springs since the 80’s, but haven’t visited the Palm Springs Museum of art, and 80 year old institution, until now. I’ve seriously been missing out.The Museum is perfectly sized for a visit lasting up to a few hours, with an exceptional contemporary art collection, a small but wonderful outdoor sculpture garden and café. A number of important works are represented here that subtly reflect important aspects of art-appreciating people in the region. Seeing Mark Bradford’s Rat Catcher of Hamelin IV as part of the collection was thrilling, as many consider him one of the most important living artists in the US, a Southern California native and LBGTQ advocate. Kihende Wiley, Walker Evans, Maynard Dixon and David Hockey are examples of the breadth of their collection, mich of which has something to say about this region, California and the type of work they seek to represent. The museum is spacious and the staff very welcoming (I’ve never encountered a museum “Ambassador” before). The mid-century architecture of the building fits perfectly with Pal Springs and the access to the heart of town couldn’t be better. Can’t wait to return!
Free Thursday is a great way to experience this museum. Weve been multiple times over the years and it never disappoints.
We had a great experience visiting the Palm Springs Art Museum. It is located in downtown, parking on their lot was easy, and we enjoyed our visit a lot! We took fantastic photos.
I love the modern art, sculpture gardens. I spent around 3hours just in awe of all the great art this museum has to offer.
Amazing, brutalist rough hewn cantilevered concrete mass structure with much midcentury and contemporary art to complement the architecture by E. Stewart Williams and PS. The large, enclosed multi story central gallery a cool and contemplative respite from the dessert heat. Quality cafe and excellent lecture opportunities. Traveling Ai Weiwei zodiac bronze animals especially memorable and favorited.
Surprisingly great place to take kids!
Beautiful art. Free on Thursday (evening?). Very nice, multilevel building, including an outdoor sculpture garden. Walk to downtown Palm Springs.
Nice variety of art and good place for a hot day
This place the people inside are all very rude. I say goodmorning happy new year. Not one person had any pleasant demeanor. None were approachable society has lost politeness even common courtesy. For passing people shooting the proverbial breeze is soon going to be a character trait long forgotten.
This museum is a gem! Beautiful building, eclectic and respectable exhibitions to compliment staple pieces from artist youd never expect to be able to see in person. Thanks to the city of Palm Springs for sponsoring the Free Thursdays that motivated to go check it out, and so very happy I did! Cant wait to go back!!!
Nice museum with a lot of things to see
Been here twice now. The rotating exhibits are really wonderful, and feature some great pieces from both well-known and (equally amazing) local artists.
Great collection of contemporary artists.
Amazing museum. Free entry on Thursday evening 4pm-8pm. Also check out local fest on Thursday night.
