Best arts theater! Hope it is able to survive COVID-19
I love this theater. Its very nostalgic. When I was a kid I came here. In the 80s
Splendid old art house, comfortable seats, spacious screen, gracious employees, really all the best reasons to abandon the TV for the evening can be found here. Cant wait to return. Thanks!
Best movies. Best atmosphere. Local. Check it out.
I love the Rio theater. I have been probably seven to ten times. The tickets are very affordable, the food is reasonably priced and tasty. The great thing about this theater is the age and the aesthetic to it. It has one screen, and they only have one movie with different showings. The seats are very comfortable and you can lean pretty far back.
Nostalgic and fun! They show documentaries Ive been hoping to see as well as good films.
First time to the Rio was wonderful. Beautiful art deco interior brings you back to the movie theaters of our youth. Very friendly staff and better prices than the megaplexes. Well travel a little further to support this independent.
Love the Rio. It is part of the Fine Arts theatre group with Glenwood Arts theatre. I go to Glenwood more often, but Rio is a fun change of pace when we want to visit downtown Overland Park. Like Glenwood, they run independent movies, Oscar contenders, and documentaries. We most recently saw The Biggest Little Farm which I wouldnt have even heard of outside of the Fine Arts theatres. They are great curators of films that are worth seeing! The Rio itself is a fun experience. The ticket booth in the front, the beautiful neon lights on the exterior and in the auditorium, the small lobby and concession stand...Its all very evocative.
Dinner and movie with my oldest son! We love the Rio and the Glenwood Arts theaters. Old theaters with so much personality!
We enjoyed the theater, but the air-conditioning was not performing at a level that was comfortable.
Great 1947 theatre and they show the fantastic art films and films that may not hit the mega movie places. 4.50 for a soda sucked! Otherwise Ill probably go again.
Cute, little old-fashioned theater.Has the best movies. Has good snacks including fresh popped popcorn.
Its an true honor to have come across this intimate theater that supports the FINE ARTS
An older theatre full of history. If you want the newest concept in movie watching this place is not for you. If you understand and love the history of cinema meet me at the Rio!
Lovely little 1940s movie theater with original walls and snack bar, and its neon tropical decor makes it all the more fun. Happily, the seats are up to date and very comfortable.
Love this theater. Hopefully this historic place will not go way of the rest of downtown Overland Park.
A cozy place to remind you of what Movie Theaters used to be like. Always enjoyable
Rio Theater in Overland Park KS is a step back in time. Its Art Deco styling and simple elegance really set the mood. Once the movie begins youll enjoy good quality sound and a crisp screen. I hope I get a chance to go back to Overland Park so I can go to Rio Theater again!
The Rio is a great little vintage theatre! Just like I went to when I was a kid. One movie. No loud sounds leaking thru the walls like the big multi-plexes. If theyre showing a movie I want to see, Ill choose this place!
A theatre that is part of the Kansas City Fine Arts Group. It only has one theatre, so there is typically only one movie showing at this location. It is an older theatre, but that adds to its charm. A number of years ago, it was remodeled in art deco and has wonderful ambiance for independent movies. There are numerous restaurants nearby, which makes dinner and a movie a snap.
The Rio is a great little one screen theatre. I believe the beautiful old building was built in the 1940s, its had some renovations done but most of the charm from the 40s is still present. Typically not huge crowds and easy to find a comfortable seat.
Love this theater. They show fine arts films. Its not usually packed, so you can enjoy a quiet evening with a good film without fighting a crowd. And youre not likely to have to tell someone to turn off their phone.
A great theatre
It is a small theater. With a small screen. It very enjoyable experience.
Great atmosphere and shows wonderful movies.
Quaint little theatre is not to be missed. Always showing exceptional theatres.
I love the Rio. Great movies. Intimate atmosphere.
I love every bit of the authenticity of this place! Stay true
Historic building. Parking can be difficult. Not disable friendly.
Interesting and historic movie theater originally built in 1946. A single screen it has good prices and comfortable seats although of course its original so its not the modern seats.
Great old theater. Very comfortable. No boorish teenagers staring at their phones. Great place for the over-50 crowd to go see a movie.
This is my favorite movie theater in the Kansas City area. They definitely have the best popcorn and the movie choices are always the type of movie I like.
I loved this place for a unique movie experience. After the movie, head over to Homers for some great coffee and local talent.
Usually have movies that arent shown in other theaters
Had a good time
Very nice place, no complaints.
Wonderful intimate old theater with the best popcorn !! Easy parking and friendly staff .
A cozy little arthouse theater in Overland Park. They only have one film showing at a time, but they are usually independent or foreign films that you wont be able to find else where. It has retro feel to it. No stadium seating, but the seats are comfortable and there is plenty of space. The concession selection is pretty typical.
A fun old school type of movie theatre. Very comfy seating and great popcorn. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
Fine arts & independent movies. Despite no drink holders, the movies here are great. Will be back again
Aesthetically pleasing theater. A fun place to hang out with pals.
Great dinner theater.
Best old-made-new theatre to see art house and limited release. Nicest people.
Love this place so much. Sitting in the theatre throws you right back to the 50s, and instead of a physical play, you get a movie. Awesome atmosphere
Step back in time....so few of these old theaters left. Plush seats, jazzy old music, friendly staff.
A charming single-screen theatre with retro decor. It regularly hosts showings for quality movies that are often overlooked.
Love the old time feel of theatres. Always a good reminiscent times gone by. Love it here.
Single movie art house type theatre. Small concession stand. Small parking lot with nearby street and other lots.
The theater was fine the only thing is seems like it took somebody took care of all the other parking cuz there was no parking left to park next to the theater
Great theatre showing first rate movies.
Show was canceled due to inclimate weather but they kept payment.
A good historic theatre that shows great movies.
A step back in time. Great theater
Wonderful locally-owned and charming venue
Like going to the movie theatre 30 years ago. Theatre is first class and seats are comfy.
Very comfortable place to catch a movie.
Outstanding place to see great movies.
Good films and a real movie atmosphere
