We were going from St. Augustine to Ormond beach and decided to go see Tomoka Park. What a cool experience. As we drive down the road, all the trees cover the road from both sides and it looks like your in another world. Very cool. Stopped at the visitors center and they were closed. There is a huge statue of the chief there also. Would of gave 5 stars if the visitors center was open.
Old Florida exactly the way it looked, smelled, and sounded like when the Spanish landed ashore some 500 years ago. These sights I imagine witnessing. Sitting on a Cypress tree stump, Im struggling hard as I try my best listening to wind dance around tree tops, swearing I hear sounds of war that turn into sounds of celebration in times of peace. #OldFlorida
We loved camping at this state park! The sites are gorgeous and private. There is a 34’ max, so watch your camper size. We LOVED KAYAKING while our friends were fishing! One of our new FAVORITE PARKS!! Advice... It is sandy which gets everywhere... and the roads had a lot of puddles of rain (large holes) so be cautious when driving if it has rained a lot!
Great Park! We spent Sunday 11/1/20 at Tomoka State Park and it was a great place to launch our kayaks and spend the day fishing. There was plenty of trailer parking, it was not crowded at all that day. Would definitely recommend this park if you like to kayak, fish, or hike. Will definitely be back.
So beautifully kept, quiet, even during Biketoberfest last week. We met such wonderful people including my grandfathers nursing assistant from, of all places, Crystal Falls, Michigan. She knew the log cabin we were building every summer for 6 years. My grandmothers first name. It was crazy. The the next couple who were in the same space as the last couples names are Bob & Louise, both of the mothers mothers parents names! But bbn of all the parks around, the least bugs, and very shady and accessible. Clean facilities and very friendly staff!
Massive beautiful park. They gave us free peanuts at the shop and they let you go most of the time if you dont have 5 in cash. The security guard is pretty kewl.
From a gps view state parks are hard to figure out, from the place its great.Great places for fishing, natural walk, camp, overnight camping, great outpost with beer from tap and kayak, canoe to rent, history dosent stay behind with cultural references around the park.
So far so good. Its been about 30 years since I stayed here.... Ill report back.
Great place. Like Alexander it seems abandoned by any updating or refreshing. Also needs some love. Great dock and store.
What a great find this was. Excellent park, spacious sites, and the most wonderful little general store. Access to waterways for fishing, very scenic.
Very beautiful, clean park. Wished we had more time. Will definitely be back!
Very nice walkway opposite of the park entrance. Park was not quite open when I arrived so thought I would try the trail across the street. i have never been on it, but go to Tomoka as its manned w rangers and safe. So this was a very well kept walkway, except...there is NO OUT once you are IN. So I am about 1/3 of the way in....alone... When I look behind me to see a tall man in a white tshirt coming around the corner..walking. there is NO POSSIBLE way he started where I did and was catching up to me. He had to have come out of the woods. So I stepped on it, not knowing how late ng this path was...I went deeper and deeper...its like a little over a mile wandering through the woods...its beside the road but no way to just pop out to the road. So I booked it in a panic. Lost guy and walked road back...BUT NOT HAPPY. I suggest you not go alone, or watch your back even it you ARE alone. I was not going to meet up with this man in the middle of the woods to find out his place intensions. The trip back via road, I could see the end of the trail where I popped out and he NEVER appeared..?? So very weird. If he was just walking he would have come out....nope. so I wont be back there alone.
Great park, friendly hosts, clean sites and bathrooms. Plenty of sites. Definitely a place to go!
Lots of opportunities for old-school Florida exploration. Camping, hiking and bird watching are abundant here. Spend an hour or a few days. The general store has lots of supplies, including kayak and canoe rentals.Make sure you bring the bug spray though. The funky statue from the 1940’s is worth the price of admission (five bucks per carload).
Historic Park that has a lake for canoeing & kayaking. Gift shop personnel very friendly. Boiled peanuts are worth the price & taste was on point
Beautiful canoe and kayaking; nice campsites; clean restrooms; laundry available; fishing and hiking. We will definetly return to Tomoka.
Beautiful camping for smaller rvs. Well be going back!
This place is amazing. Been looking for a place like this. So many little private coves to pull into. Beautiful views and so much fish activity. We caught 3 catfish! Definitely going back.
Lovely get away by myself so no need to social distance
The park is very nice and very well clean. Big Bathrooms and nice camping areas. The Tomoka Outpost is really nice and filled with lots of items you may need for camping. My only issue and honestly its not much is if your not beating our kayaking there isnt much else to do like hiking and what not BUT you are near the ormond beaches so that makes up for it!
The staff is ALWAYS great and accommodate in every way, above and beyond. Ranger Joe and Ranger Black have been awesome. The Outpost store is great. Been staying at the park for years. Cant wait to go back.
Great local State Park. You can canoe, kayak. fish and see Indian relics.
Very quaint and quiet park. Clean. Playground is awesome. Water is beautiful.
This park is beautiful in many ways. There was lots of wildlife deer, birds, tortoises, and on good days you can see dolphins. There is a nice walking area near the water and newly developed oyster banks and increased vegetation trying to help erriosion from occurring. There are many areas to fish or just enjoy a sunset this is a must see spot if your visiting Daytona area.
Nice, secluded campsites, though not real big. Quite a few are canopied. Very nice camp store and canoe rental.
Went camping here over the weekend during covid and we felt very comfortable and safe. The camp sites are spacious and private. And the price was cheap! We will be staying here again next time we need to Daytona. If youre contemplating staying here, I highly suggest you do! Best of luck to you!
We live coming here! Beautiful & very clean park!
Site are clean and private. Hosts are available and the Outpost offers an array of needs along with outside seating with gorgeous view of the lake.
A gem of a park. Nice trails to walk along and see the river. I was able to ride bikes through the park. There is a great camping area for RVs with water and electric, picnic areas, restrooms, and showers. There is store on site with kayak rentals, food, basic necessities, and beer. The whole place is clean, and pleasant to explore.
If your bringing a camper, be forewarned some of the sights are small. Ours was not huge with a tree in the middle which made it a little difficult to park, and my truck was left out in the road. Of course it was pouring out so maybe that made it difficult. That said, the park is beautiful, built for kayaking, fishing, and camping in general. The bathrooms were the cleanest I think Ive ever seen in a campground. Well be going back but we ran thru the park and made a list of bigger camp sites.
Love visiting Tomoka state park. Kayaking and fishing is a must! When the evening come around taking a stroll is enjoyable. However, I do wish the camp rangers would be more visible at night and enforce camp rules. Quite time is quite time. It would have been nice to see the rangers also interacting with the youth. Maybe next time.
Not bad, sites are kinda tight for a camper though. Many sites are right on the intercoastal but they have a lot of wooded brush in between period. Still you dont have to walk too far to find places where you can get there and play in the water or do some fishing
Great camping rest rooms were clean park was clean ....Jen and Patrick were great camp hosts and gave great directions ...love then
Absolutely beautiful! Very well maintained, friendly, helpful staff. Great camping areas- cant wait to get out for a whole week at least!
I always love this place to camp as the sites are spaced enough apart you are not on top of each other. Everything seemed clean and the staff in the office allowed my friend and my kids to enter the camp store after hours (they did not realize they were closed) to get souvenirs. Bathrooms very clean. Great experience nice get away amidst the craziness of the world.
Paws friendly, best staff at the little store, clean, great place to bring the family!
Always a good time at Tomoka. Can be sitting on the beach in under 15 minutes in Ormond Beach. Only issue is we have a dog and we trained her to be quit. Wish other people trained there dogs as well. If you read this BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER CAMPERS!!!Enjoy your stay.
Excellent kayaking bike riding and camping. We will return for a longer stay.
This is a nice state park. There are a few trails but its mostly devoted to fishing endeavors and exploring the waterways.
Ive been visiting Tomoka State Park fo many years. It never fails to impress me.. On a recent fishing trip to Tomoka Aquitac Preserv . We had a blast. The Park Rangers and Staff are absolutely fantastic folks and extremely helpful. Theres a first class boat ramp and parking. The Park is always clean and well kept. Folks this is OLD FLORIDA and a wonderful place to visit. The State of Florida Park system is second to none.
Canoe rentals are pretty affordable and it’s an easy process. The beaches in Florida are always crowded, but this place gives you some alone time with nature. We saw plenty of birds and even spotted a gator, so I recommend anyone who enjoys the outdoors to take a day to go to Tomoka. Beware of the harsh Florida sun, be sure to bring plenty of water with you and wear sunscreen.
So much to do. Enclosed playground is great. The long fenced piers are nice. 1 grill, large picnic area.
My family and I wanted a short weekend camping trip and came upon this place. It was really awesome! So pretty and clean! Spaces were large! Beautiful sunsets! The girl that worked in the Outpost store was so friendly and kind as well as everyone else we encountered! Great experience and cant wait to go back!
Great site to camp! The drive is beautiful and the campsites Private.
Had the best time! Awesome place. I wouldnt try to park my rig in the dark if I hadnt been there before! Well definitely be back!
Nice quiet peaceful. Multiple fishing spots just wish amenities were open but covid cant last forever.
This a good looking inexpensive campground. This a state park less expensive then most camp grounds. Do not expect alot of the amenities of some of the more expensive camp grounds. Good looking park though.
Best kayaking, camping destination. Even though I personally dont like camping but it sure was one of the most memorable trip.
This is a beautiful state park with a great campground. They offer boat tours along the Tomoka River, boat and kayak rentals and lots of fishing. The facilities in the park and campground are clean and well kept. The staff is all very friendly and helpful.
Great park. Honestly, we hopped on Old Dixie Highway to get away from traffic on I-95. After driving through some very picturesque canopies of live oaks draped with spanish moss we saw the signs for the park on the left and pulled in to stretch our legs and look around. Park access was $5 for the vehicle access but this was quiet the park and we wish we could have stayed longer. From the fish jumping out of the water to the deer we saw walking along the side of the road this was quiet a nice spot. They have a country store/camping concessions building near the boat launch and rentals. There are ample trails, camping locations, picnic areas, fishing spots, etc. According to the park flyer it was a two-time national gold medal winner and is the largest stand of old growth live oak in eastern Florida. The place is definitely worth a longer visit than we could manage so we will be back to explore it in greater depth in the near future.
Located on a peninsula in North Ormond Beach the state park is a great place to camp thats close to town but without the traffic noise. Usually a breeze comes through from the water surrounding. Good place for bikes, sunsets, boating, fishing and fun.
Pretty neat nature trail with a chance to see plenty of birds and lizards. Not to much else aside from that so the kids may find it a little boring. Beautiful place nonetheless.
I love this park! It has so much to see or do, or not, lol. Its quiet, on the river, so if u like like fishing, kayaking, boating its great. There is a boat ramp and camp store. The campground has electric and water but no sewer at each site. The bath houses are well kept and plenty of hot water.
*dump station is not likely not sufficient for you*Very pretty park. things to do are far from the campsites for the most part, dirt roads are packed *mostly* good enough to bike around without sliding all over. Park is maintained ok... lots of overgrown grass basically anywhere you go (on sites, trails, picnic tables etc)if you are camping and bringing an rv the dump station does NOT have a spigot to hook up to your blank tank sani-rinse. They just have a hose w/ a weird non-threaded nozzle. That was an unpleasant enough surprise to knock the review down a few notches. be ready to level or be a little crooked but not too bad
Didnt get to go in, but from outside I know that this is a great park. I will certainly go in next time I am in the area.
Nice place to see plants and animals if you hike around this area
Such beautiful sites. Very fun family outing spot.
Firstly, came here in January 2017, now while being again in Florida decided to visit one more time, just walking around and taking photos, but so relaxing! Very beautiful place!
A MUST SEE AND TRAVEL VIA BOAT... ITS BEAUTIFUL
This place, is great!! All kinds, of activities. Make this place, one of your stops, along the Ormond Scenic Loop. There is also, a short 1 mile paved path(across the street)! Beautiful scenery.
Wonderful campground. Mostly 30 amp, bring your adapter. Very close to Ormond Beach. Bathrooms and showers very clean.
Beautiful park lots of places to fish the Outpost is awesome btw!
I understand closing for a hurricane. But please be responsible enough in the future to post on your website so I dont drive an hour to get turned away by a very rude ranger. Horrible experience and I loved this place. Thanks for the rudeness it was very professional.
This park is tucked away in the back, right off I 95 . It is small, too small for my travel trailer. but perfect for travelers looking to spend a night or two before moving on
Campsites have LOTS of trees around adding to natural beauty and privacy between camping parties. Park is large and has a nice camp store. Park is well kept. Bathroom was sufficiently clean. Staff was friendly and helpful.4 stars only because I am picky about bathrooms.I would visit this park again and encourage others.
Nice boat ramp for small to medium power boats, kayaks and canoes
Great campgrounds. I would highly recommend this place. There are a few cons. BE VERY CAREFUL with rigs over 12 6. There are several low hanging limbs over the roads not just in the park but also the road to get to the park. There is a sign just as you get on to the Old Dixie Highway that reads 12 6 Max Overhead Clearance. Also, our rig is 34 long so we reserved a site that would accommodate that length. There was just enough room to back our rig into our site. The roads in the campground area are not very wide and are sand with several deep potholes. The bathrooms are old but very clean. The sites them selves vary in size, ours was a little narrow. Overall this is a very beautiful park.
This looks like a fresh water fishermans dream. Everywhere you turn theres a new are to throw a line. The fish were jumping out of the water saying, catch me, catch me... lol. We enjoyed the quiet, shade, and non contact fishing. Gotta get my fresh water fishing gear on point.
Really great place to get in touch with nature. Definitely didn’t get to see everything so will return and explore some more.
Great kayaking entrancing and close to Daytona Beach
Such a beautiful place..
Beautiful old growth florida
This place was great !! Also great place to get out and about with the dog
Beautiful park with some good fishing spots. People reported catching red drum and snapper while we were camping there. Campsites were large and well maintained. The Indian statue and memorial are worth checking out.
Very rustic. Small camp sites. Narrow roads.
Rustic state park with lots of dirt. Has been kept very natural and being almost completely surrounded by water means there are plenty of good fishing spots.
This is a beautiful state park and very convenient to Daytona Beach. I would love to come and camp here, but from what I understand the spots are to small for the RV we have. We recently drove through the park and were very impressed with the natural beauty. We stopped at the outpost store and enjoyed the river view.
Loved the natural sites that feel carved out of the brush, very private & quiet. Short drive to Ormond beach for restaurants, shops, etc.
We love Tomoka State Park! Beautiful nature & a great place to camp...fishing, kayaking, nature walks. The Tomoka Outpost (camp store extraordinaire) is awesome as well!
Very tranquil there and clean, great place for nature lovers
Beautiful state park. Has a cute little camp store with snacks, beer, gear, and fun items. The statues are a little underwhelming, but the river views are gorgeous. Highly recommend fishing or kayaking.
Great place. Quiet, friendly, and the fishing is perfect
Pretty good camping place. Would be nice if the people with animals would pick up after them though
Nice place to camp for a day or two if you wanna go to Ormond Beach or Daytona or whatnot. There were some bugs, but not too bad. Also it is pretty.
We love Tomoka State Park. Its a beautiful quiet place to do a little hiking or kayaking. We just got back from having a picnic lunch then relaxing in the rocking chairs by the river. The Outpost is a great place to poke around and finish off your day with an ice cream. Its also very dog friendly
I was with family so my personal experience was bad but other than that its a nice park. Just a lot water and fishing. Not many trails to hike on but other than it was cool
Great camping facilities, clean restrooms, fishing & wildlife (deer & tortoises)to see.
Its a very true to Florida environment. Cleverly set up to where there are little natural surprises and views.Includes a country store Which has a nice set up with tables and seating by the water, kayak/canoe/boat ramp, trails, small beach (no swimming), picnic areas, plenty of picnic tables and benches tucked in different spots, a statue dedicated to the native people who originally occupied the land before it was stolen, they hold educational presentations that teach about their culture, theres campgrounds andthe Ranger we met was helpful and friendly. The park is clean and well kept. Visitors seem to respect the gem it is and leave no trash or mess.I LOVED this park and would visit again.UPDATED: to say we saw dolphins passing through while we were kayaking right by the launch/general store. There is plenty of fish that we observed jumping and we got to watch a young black racer (snake) make its way across the deck.
Always a fun time for smiles and laughs!
Another beautiful Florida State park. This park is very important to the the history of Florida and has a very unique, large, old statue. You must go to see what it is of...
Absolutely beautiful place to catch some big fish.
Really nice place with clean showers
Nice park. Good campground. Hookups for full sized RVs. Nice inlet for paddleboarding.
Had so much fun kayaking and biking.
