It was a very lovely setting. Whats better than sitting down with friends and or family to watch a good old Shakespearean play. I myself attend this event every year and it never disappoints. The program includes a brief synopsis. The staff understands that not everyone is up to date on Shakespeare lingo. They also have interpreters for the hearing impaired. The actors and actresses have astonishing amounts of talent. There is also two shows every year. One comedy and one tragedy. This is a great summer activity that you have to try! Ill most definitely be returning next summer!
This is simply fun. Go as a family or on a date. Its just a wonderful way to spend time out with those you care about.
Excellent experience! Brings interactive fun for the youngsters and helps everyone have a love of the arts from young to old. Would highly recommend. Only sad part is its only a couple of months out of the year!
Great summer activity in Omaha, though it always falls on like the hottest or wettest dates of the year it seems. Would give it 5 stars if it were early September instead. The venue is simple enough, a sloped lawn of mown grass. Toilets are port-o-potties and the food is vendor tents ($$). Bring your own wine and cheese, get here early for good seating and you wont be disappointed. No cat juggling.Addendum 2018. Budget must have been cut this year. The traditional King John was played by Chris Farley, sound was terrible and the production left much to be desired. Ugh. Can’t blame Trump on this stink-bomb. I’m taking back two stars!
This is a fantastic production that is offered up free to the public! Whats not to love? It is well-maintained and organized. Enjoy!!
A highly recommended experience, bring a ground cloth and cushions for sitting on the grass. Friendly and welcoming family atmosphere with limited but quality food choices. The performance of Hamlet was well staged and exceptionally performed.
I always have the best time! The costumes are great, and when the sun sets, it makes the performance even more special. I love that you can bring snacks or even get a treat there; gotta love the Bard!
Been coming for years, always entertaining with a new twist for classics. Seating can be difficult but just make sure to set up early. Decent prices for merchandise and food/drink.
Experienced this for the first time this year and it was so much fun! the acting was great and I was impressed with the sound quality even though I sat all the way in the back I could hear the speakers clearly. Parking was full when I got there so I had a long walk from my car but I loved that it was dog-friendly. Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic (also sunscreen and bug spray). There were some vendors, but lots of people had food and alcohol and I hadnt thought to bring any. I will absolutely be going back!
This is a dedicated crew working hard to present theater with fresh and artful interpretations that respect the author and his original vision. The craft and scholarship that goes into these performances is evident in every moment onstage.
Always an enjoyable evening. The event is so well run, with the layout clear, plenty of vendors and portajohns, and a pleasant crowd! I might be biased, but I think its one of the best things about Omaha in the summer.
SotG always puts on entertaining shows! Mixing modern style with classic Shakespeare, the plays never lose their spirit nor relevance.
Everything was lovely, and one of the volunteers even helped us transport all of our gear to our space. My ONLY complaint was members of the public bringing full-height lawn chairs and placing them front and center of the blanket seating, blocking the view for everyone else. It would have been nice if staff could have enforced the rule that everyone else was following.
Saw Hamlet here and it was super well done! Great venue and really fun experience
Been attending Shakespeare on the Green for almost 10 years. Im so glad Omaha has such great free entertainment. Grab some friends, a bottle of wine and some snacks, then hope for great weather. Dont forget chairs and bug spray. Enjoy a wonderful evening with some great volunteers!
I always celebrate my birthday at Shakespeare on the Green, Ive been going for 6 years now and its awesome!
All-female cast for Alls well that ends well was sassy and inspirational. Perfection!
We have been going to Shakespeare on the green since my oldest was 8...she is 32 now! We love it!
A great annual event that my family had enjoyed almost every year since it started. A very nice and fitting location for Shakespearean performances. They have a few local food vendors for food & snacks. Portapotties are nothing great (but they never are). A very solid and worthwhile event.
It was super great. Excellent actors, fine play.
Had a great time! Food was delightful and the play was fantastic!
Great performance, you can tell the actors love what they do
Very fun. People all friendly. .brought our own food. ..theirs pretty high..great performers. I highly recommend
Great place thats outside and excellent food and drinks!
An Omaha treasure and tradition, more precious than Berkshire and CWS.
Its a free (donations greatly appreciated) performance of Shakespeare at a nice outdoor setup by UNO. How can you go wrong?!? They have some on-site food and beverage vendors, but they also allow your to bring your own food (pack a picnic basket) and drink (including beer or wine), too. Dogs and children are allowed, although leashes are expected (for the dogs; optional for the children). They do two different plays each year, and multiple showings of each. Bug spray is often handy, and blanket or chairs is highly recommended. Get there early for good seats. Definitely worth it!
We go every year so much fun!
Saw Hamlet this summer and it was wonderful!
Enchanted excursion to Italy by way of the Bards Much Ado About Nothing. The actors have fun and so do we. Beautiful cool, yes cool night in Elmwood Park made for a pleasant evening.
This years show wasnt the greatest but it wasnt the actors fault. SotG is always a nice social outing. Parking is okay. Ordered pizza and it was great service but slightly pricey.
My family has been going to Shakespeare on the Green for over 20 years. It never disappoints. Such a cool experience with a beautiful setting.
This was a very cool experience. There are always food vendors to get snacks or dinner while you watch the play. The sound is great and I could always here. Bring your own seating or sit on the grass.
The ensembles are always amazing and the modern takes on the traditional Shakespeare make it entertainment for everyone who can sit, stand, or lay down through a whole performance. Word to the wise, pick your place early!
A perfect night for Hamlet.
Always an enjoyable and pleasant evening. Great professional theatre company with strong community engagement.
Loved this years Hamlet!
Very fun the beach setting for much ado was a little weird otherwise it was great
Courteous and entertaining staff. I cant wait to come back
I was a former actor at this festival. I was called an over actor by the artistic director during rehearsal. I was inappropriately directed to grope another actress as well as grab my own balls for shows performed in the Elmwood public park in front of hundreds of people with children present. The artistic director tried setting up some kind of left field joke about my own mother during group discussion for one of the plays. I was unethically confronted unannounced at night after rehearsal by the artistic director pounding on my dorm room door under an unfounded suspicion that I had brought marijuana with me to Nebraska from California where I live and questioned about what drugs Id done in the past. I was even asked by the artistic director if I had ever seen a therapist, who repeatedly told me I was not well and incessantly shut down my rational objections to his trumped up diagnoses of my mental fitness. I was taunted and belittled by the artistic director who told me, You think you know so much about Shakespeare? before firing me at 11:30 at night in the private accommodations the festival provided me instead of waiting until the morning on the premise of the theater with another member of the company present to be witness to this abuse of power. If youre worth your salt as an actor, dont waste your time or talent with this company.
Top notch performance, they know what they are doing and how to make Shakespeare enjoyable even for non-enthusiasts.
Nice evening with the family. Its Shakespeare, so hard to follow if you dont know the story, but a great presentation and really nice location.
Great being outside and can see the stage clearly even when sitting farther back. Great atmosphere!
Every year its a great show. Thet put in so much time anf effort to allow ot to be free for everyone. The staff is amazing and super helpful very personalable. They go out of their way to make every experience memorable and will make people come back every year. Each year ofders diversity and a new outlook on a play thats been seen before. Shakespeare is brought to life for young audiences as well as old.
Performances can be great and sometimes a little less. But unique and always a lovely time in the summer. Crowded. Free. Bring natural bug repellant (off botanicals, repel) and if its spray, put it on before entering, reapply using hands not open spray. Performances are in a low muggy area I like to call mosquito valley, and its dominated by lights running into warm summer evenings. Bring blankets or very low folding chairs. If blankets you will appreciate a waterproof tarp underneath. Make it all minimal though, not a campout.
The directing job of King Henry(2018) was truly offensive! Ill come back when they stop changing Shakespeare just to push a social agenda.
This is a fun experience for the whole family!
One of my favorite summer activities.
Outstanding performances, Again!!
This is a wonderful event in Omaha that residents and visitors must attend.
Great music, fun impassioned performances.
Great costumes, music acting and somesuch
Well produced, well staged, well acted.
Love the entire experience.
Hamlet is difficult to do.
A great way to spend an evening
Always top notch live theatre!
Commendable effort in keeping the Shakespearean plays alive
Make sure to bring along a plot synopsis to follow along. Still, an Omaha native must.
It’s free.
Always top notch performance
If you have not attended one of the largest free Shakespeare events in the country youre missing out on an incredible experience
Great quality, free, fun.
Good stuff
Wonderful
Excellent show
Lovely!
Check it out next summer 2018
Fun for the whole family
