Such beautiful displays of the history and tenacity of the most tried group on this planet. After leaving this place the spirit I always feel is that no matter how hard Blacks/ African descendent were oppressed generation after generation country after country through innumerable tactics they always come back stronger, more loving (scars and all) for not just their culture but all of humanity!

Had the best time there. Truly an experience worth repeating. So much culture, richness, preserved history, and community to be absorbed. Absolutely the best stop on my vacation tour thus far.

This is an Outstanding Community Resource! I recently visited the AAMLO on August 17, 2019 with my husband to hear Fredricka Newton (Huey Newtons wife) speak on the their life together. The presentation, atmosphere and discussions were all amazing and the evening left me feeling encouraged and uplifted. I was born and raised in Oakland, so I am incredibly grateful for this very precious community resource. I became a member that evening and I hope to volunteer in the near future. Thank you AAMLO!

Very educational. Being from Africa I always wanted to learn more about African American history. It was like a year course in an hour.

THIS IS NOT A CHILD FRIENDLY LOCATION. After an anti-racism class, a couple decided to visit the museum with their daughter and we joined them along with two other young children and their parents. While we found the exhibits amazing, the customer service was extremely rude. An employee came upstairs and chastised the group because she could hear the excited children downstairs. Later, they sent security to tell us to go downstairs to play.

Its close to where I live. I dont like the ideal that they dont open until twelve oclock. Thats very inconvenient especially if you just need to make copies or just use the computer for a minute. That creates a line. They only have a few computers. Then you end up waiting again for that.
