I really loved it! The fact that it was a function church where we were allowed to roam around the space was a huge plus too!
This is the 1st Loyd building I been to that was not a residential property. From the outside it has a brutalist look but when u walk into the church if feel so warm cozy and welcoming. I really loved it! The fact that it was a function church where we were allowed to roam around the space was a huge plus too!
Excellent first public building of Frank Lloyd Wright . Though we were pessimistic when the FLW home and studio tour was filled for hours this turned our to be a worthy alternative. Tour is about 45 minutes and docents are knowledgeable both about the history of the building and recent restorations . Great introduction to Wright for those just getting acquainted and historical and religious context is provided
A fascinating look at one of Frank Lloyd Wrights earlier non-residential designs. Our tour guide was friendly and very knowledgable about Wright, the history of the building, the materials used throughout construction, and the restoration process. If you are unable to participate in a tour, try at the very least to spend a few minutes in the sanctuary-- the interior design and the comfortable atmosphere are wonderful to take in, even if only for a short time. There are about fifteen minutes of the tour that are spent outside, so definitely wear a warm jacket if youre visiting in the colder months.
Church-temple designed by the architect Frank Lloyd Wright, located in the Oak Park district, in the western area of Chicago. Cubic structure, wide spaces rich in details, stained glass windows and skylights on the roof that allow natural light to illuminate the interior of the building. Worthy of visit, too bad that we have to pay for the ticket (at least it includes the audio guide) even though its a church to all intents and purposes!
Fantastic. Really enjoyable tour.
This is a review of the Frank Lloyd Wright tour. The building is really beautiful and well worth the visit. Our tour guide was really informative and spent about 40 minutes with us. He also let us know that since he volunteers the fee from our tour goes into maintaining the handful of Wright buildings that are part of the Trust.
It was really interesting seeing Frank Loyd Wright’s style in a public building up close. Almost everything of his work that I had seen before was residential in nature. So being able to contrast the two but also seeing all the similarities was very exciting for me.
Did not have time to your but was interesting to see such a different type of FLW building from around and in lobby. You can do an inexpensive audio tour
We were here for an event. It was my first visit and, being an FLW enthusiast, surely not my last. The staff was very helpful and pleasant to work with. It was a real treat to see how lovingly the space has been cared for.
The self guided audio tour is completely worth it!!
Great building by FLW. Definitely worth visiting if you’re in the area.
Unity Temple is an amazing Frank Loyd Wright design right in Oak Park, IL, very convenient to anywhere in Chicago land. Its open for tours and the church of the Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation, a really welcoming group. It was recently remodeled and a must see piece of architecture.
I am a huge FLW fan, and my husband and I visited Unity Temple before our Oak Park FLW home tour. Such a beautiful building way ahead of its time. I cant say much more than that without you seeing it for yourself. We took a self-guided audio tour, and we were there about a 1/2 hour. No gift shop, but you can buy Unity Temple items at the Oak Park Home & Studio only 3 blocks away. Great place to visit!
We got a very good tour guide named Carol. I learned a lot about the architecture and the man. Frank Lloyd Wright was a member of this UUC congregation. But not a particularly good member. I could relate. Too many details to go into, but the thought process was impressive on many levels. I think Mr Kaufman found him here and fired him again. Kidding.
Kind, welcoming, friendly people motivated to add more love to the world. The building is pretty amazing too! :)
Amazing performance by Winifred Haun & Dancers at the Unity Temple.
The architecture, the philosophy, the values, the music, the people, all of these elements come together perfectly every Sunday for an uplifting experience.
Great place to visit. Top notch tour guide - thanks Larry!
Very good tour here. I loved the architectural details of the Frank Lloyd Wright design. Beautiful woodwork.
Was there for one of their concert series. The accoustics are phenomenal and the seating intimate.
Felix gave a wonderful tour. Very knowledgeable and informative. A must see for any Wright enthusiast, fan of architecture, or history.
A must visit for Frank Lloyd Wright fans. His first public building. Amazing style, couple this with the FLW home and studio for a great tour
Unity Temple is a very special place to worship, and especially rings true when celebrating Martin Luther King. The message and feeling is all inclusive, and the space is magnificent, having recently gone through a $25 million. The music program is inspiring, drawing singers and congregants alike. I always feel better having gone to Unity Temple. It feels like family.
It was a Beautiful place to visit and very nice tour to find out the history. Then drive around and see the houses he built in the neighborhood.
One of the most fantastic FLW buildings. This was when he realized he designed for space and not for the building. Amazing. Highly recommend.
Unity Temple is one of Wrights most illuminating and transformative works, done on the cusp of his renunciation of his domestic life and retreat to Wisconsin. In it, Wright places architecture at the service of his clients idea of Unitarianism.
An excellent example of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture style. Worth visiting and taking a tour.
Do mind that it closes at noon on Saturday because of religious services.
I love attending service on sundays
Warm, welcoming community of really special people. I feel at home here.
Wow! Recently restored and beautiful. If I lived in the area, I would attend worship here, just to be in this uplifting space every week.
Great place to take a rest for an incredibly warm summer.
ALWAYS love visiting here. Wrights best public building.
We had our Wedding and Reception here. Couldnt be prettier. People are still talking about it 16 years later. I was also a member of Unity Temple for a few years prior. Loved it. Dont go anymore due to distance. I miss it.
Audio tour was informative. A must for Wright fans. Casual visitors can probably settle for the studio and home tour.
Beautiful intimate sanctuary. Wonderful architecture from Frank Lloyd Wright.
Yet another Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. The extensive renovation/restoration is rather remarkable in its scope. We were somewhat disappointed that the patching of the exterior wall finish was so noticeable, but perhaps the shading and texture differences will even out, given time and weathering. Otherwise, a stunning renewal of FLLWs tour de force.
Beautiful building and wonderful people. Sunday morning services have great music and good Unitarian Universalist preaching
Unesco World Heritage Site as of July 2019.
Beautiful building, excellent example of prairie school architecture. A must see for any Frank Lloyd Wright fan.
Its Frank Lloyd Wright, of course its awesome.
Wonderful restoration! Tours resumed in July 17 & its great to see the restored space.*IMPORTANT NOTE* A church calls this building home, so its NEVER open for tours or visitors on Sundays. If you only have time for tours on the weekend, be sure to go on Saturday.
You really feel the love mister FLW had for his church and the neighborhood in this masterpiece of him. Given the ‘small’ budget he had to work with, he gave his all and the result is really worth a visit. Also the church really allows people to see every corner.
FLW masterpiece of architectural and marketing promotion
Unity Temple is a Unitarian Universalist church in Oak Park, Illinois, and the home of the Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation. It was designed by the American architect Frank Lloyd Wright, and built between 1905 and 1908. Unity Temple is considered to be one of Wrights most important structures dating from the first decade of the twentieth century. Because of its consolidation of aesthetic intent and structure through use of a single material, reinforced concrete, Unity Temple is considered by many architects to be the first modern building in the world. Cool place
Just absolutely stunning architecture and ambiance
Beautiful, inspiring. The Unity Temple has been bringing humans closer to God and Nature for over 100 years. Run by the Universalist Unitarian Church. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
Iconic
Incredible structure.
All right.
Find the building to be perfect blend of utility and art. Perfection
Very natural church and piceful
Unique and beautiful temple
A wonderful FLW experience. We learned a lot about the FLW aesthetic from David, our tour guide. David is a knowlegeable, enthusiastic teacher.
Awesome and inspiring Wright example.
Nice wood trim!
Atheist, congregation & choir member, great community and building.
Beautiful building just dont come on Sundays. Its closed then.
Beautiful church designed by FLW. Unique design. Interesting history.

Very beautiful architecture
Nice
Whatever.
Beautiful architecture and interiors.
Go! It will be closing soon for a two year restoration project, so check with the church before heading there.
