The guides are fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable and just a joy to be around. The tour was exciting and I was interested the entire time. I got to see everything and learned more than I did in my Architectural History class. The gift shop is fair priced. It’s a must see if you’re in the Chicago area and want to learn some architecture history or want to enjoy a cool house!

Frank Lloyd Wright Home and studio is a gem. Not only because of its architectural value, but because of the way it’s been preserved, the tours offered in the surrounding houses designed by Chicago’s most prominent architect.

This was my first tour of a Frank Lloyd Wright site. My visit exceeded my expectations! My group guide was so knowledgeable on Wright’s life and work experience...I learned so much. I was taken away with how beautiful this home was. I had seen pictures before going, but being inside his actual home is whole different experience. Pictures don’t do Wright’s architecture justice, go and walk through this home and studio! The staff/guides are so friendly, and they’re quick to answer any questions and give recommendations on what other Wright places to visit! For such a cheap price, this tour is definitely worth it. I hope to visit again with more friends! PS: going at Christmas time means getting to see the gorgeous tree in the play room.

We took the Green Line from downtown Chicago out to Oak Park. It could not have been easier. The walk from the station took about 15 minutes. Along the way you may observe other Frank Lloyd Wright designs. The museum tour commenced in the gift shop. The tour was informative but the guides did a good job of moving us along. The home and studio were part of the tour. Photos were allowed(+!). There are clean public restrooms, a gift shop and local advice about homes located nearby.

As a local house painter in Oak Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright tour gave us some fantastic insight into some of the historic homes weve painted in Oak Park and River Forest.Seriously, taking the tour and a stroll down the blocks of Victorian era historic homes in Oak Park have to be at the top of the to-do list if you are visiting Chicago.Even if youve lived in Chicago your whole life (like us) and havent taken the Frank Lloyd Wright tours, we highly recommend taking a weekend to do so.Certainly, weekdays are best in terms of avoiding the crowds and if you are able to get in and get out between 10am-2pm, youll avoid Chicagolands traffic (also historic in nature).All in all, a great bucket list item for any Chicago tourist, Chicago native, or home architecture aficionado!

Twice weve visited this museum and we simply enjoy the volunteer tour guides and historical perspective it give to Frank Lloyd Wrights designs. Theres a small gift shop with unique objects for purchase. We picked up a dish towel (which we turned into a cushion), firewood rack, and books. The house history is fascinating as you witness many of objects from his childhood and life as a young father and husband -- objects that occur again and again in this work for the remainder of his life. Well take the tour again when we are in town there.

We toured right after the museum reopened during the pandemic. Health standards meant far fewer people on each tour, which meant a less crowded, and more personal experience. The tour guide is so informed and conversational.It was a wonderful detour on our way back from Wyoming.

Very nice tour. An interesting look into the early life of an architect-genius. We had to wait about an hour for our tour, so we had time to walk around Oak Park and see several FLW homes. Our tour guide, Mary, did a nice job getting us through the home and studio. Highly recommend this if you have time.

One third of all of Frank Lloyd Wrights work was done here. Very interesting tour. Weve toured three Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the past eight months. Touring multiple places is like putting together a puzzle. You get more information at each place that helps you understand the man and his work as well as the time in which he lived and worked.

Super great spot to explore prairie style architecture. Such a neat home. Lots of really cool details to see. Doesnt seem to be falling in a state of disrepair. Really huge ginkgo tree in the side yard. The whole neighborhood is really beautiful as well. Worth driving around a bit.

What an experience! The tour guide was super informative and approachable. Talked about Wright’s influences, signature architectural touches, and life story behind the great 20th century architect. Highly recommend walking around the neighborhood as well. You’ll see lots of houses designed or redesigned by Wright. Definitely worth a visit if you know a little about architecture.

I was waiting for so long to visit here. It was so worth the wait. What a wonderful resource and an absolutely spectacular environment. He was such a gift to architecture and home thought.

Oak Park is a fantastic town! Especially all the Frank Lloyd Wright property in the area.

Book time online ahead of arriving. The tour includes some stairs, but not too much. Interesting tour guide gives a history and expansion changes in the house. Good summary and excellent renovation and updating to be close to house when Wright lived and worked there.Small gift shop has interesting mementos and pricing was reasonable. Access to two restrooms in the gift shop area.

Frank lloyd is one of the greatest architects, and in his home and studio you get a sense for his vision. The tour guides are great, knowledgeable, and the surroundings are inspiring. Well worth a visit.

FANTASTIC tour of the studio and home! The guide was knowledgeable and very receptive to questions. Be sure to walk through the neighborhood and see the other homes he designed as well— several plaques help point out their history. The church he designed (Unity Temple) is also a short 10 minute walk away and WELL worth the visit!

Did the walking tour what a great way to find out the history of the area and the grand homes. If its your first time do both home and walking tour, guided or audio you cant go wrong. Since cov19 dampen our vacation plans do stuff in your back yard bonus no long tsa lines or delay flights.

Historically restored architectural gem located on the magnificent Oak Park neighborhood near Chicago. Different tour offerings of which we selected a 3 hour walking tour. 1 hour in the house, 1.5 in the neighborhood and .5 at the Unity Temple. Some of these were named Unesco World Heritage Site. Very knowledgeable Docent. Nice gift shop. A must see!

This was a very interesting tour that a recommend for anyone interested in Frank Lloyd Wrights background of design. The tour was of his home and studio. The most interesting thing learned was that he built around a tree instead of cutting it down when wanting to add his studio to the house. The tree is still growing through the house to this day.

A house and studio designed by one of the greatest and iconic American architects. The guided tour was very interesting and informative, and the tour guide was a delight to listen to. You will learn about the fascinating history behind the design/construction of the house, the period in which Wright and his family lived within its walls, and the meticulous process that went into restoring the building as close as possible to Wrights original vision. This location also has a great gift shop for all your Wright needs, and serves as a good starting point for walking/cycling to other Wright-designed buildings nearby.

Another must do in Chicago specially if you are an architect. The tour is very well explained. You can take photos of everything, just need to be quick. Loved this experience, a dream come true for me.

Great tour to directly learn about the Wright family (prior to his departure), his architectural style, preferences and influences for his home and studio. Our docent stayed within the history of his time living in this Oak Park landmark with little bits and pieces about the children and Catherine. We purchased our tickets in the lovely gift shop instead of online. It was a busy Sunday and a gorgeous autumn day, but we had no problems fitting into one of the groups with a wait of about 25 minutes, which allowed us plenty of time to browse. It is also worthwhile to walk around this area taking in all the amazing homes and places of worship. The architecture around the neighborhood is astounding!

Really easy to get to from downtown on the Green line. Its a bit of a walk from the station, but worth it. The tour was incredibly informative, and gave a real insight into FLWs life. The house has some incredible features and quirks. They have a gift shop, but no cafe. There are restrooms in the shop. There are also a lot of stairs in the house tour that you cant avoid. Definitely worth the trip.

This is my absolute favorite historic site and place for a day trip in general.We went during the little bit of snow over Christmas which was super pretty, and even though it was cold, walking through the area was a delight.The houses in the neighborhood are lovely, there are some pretty churches and the streets are tidy and photogenic.The house is stunning, its amazing to think how old it is, there are aspects of this house that you could still see being used today and its also amazing to look around and be about to see how much care FLW put into it.He is hands down my favorite architect and walking round the place he developed his style was hugely meaningful to me.The tour guide was thorough an clearly knew her stuff and enjoyed herself. I found her a little frustrating in places where she treated the group like children. However the guides are volunteers and they do good work in sharing information and protecting the house.The gift shop is not your standard gift shop either. The products are lovely and well thought out but expensive. I realised that one of the books I bought had a massive markup on it so watch out and unless its produced by the foundation, theres a chance you could pay less elsewhere. I dont exactly mind as Im happy to support their good work but it was a bit of a shock to realise just how much more Id paid.

The guides are extremely well versed in FLW and the history of the home and his life. If you are in Chicago, I would definitely recommend this tour. Especially if you are into architecture, interior, furniture design, planning.The thought put to designing the house from the entrance to the lighting is wonderful. Lot of mordern concept for design is used in this building, when it was built in the 80s. How the house is grown as the requirements were added and adapted with existing is amazing. The simple use of geometrical shapes is very prominent in the house right from the exterior of the house.

This is where he lived and it is very cool to learn how he developed his style, as is evidence here.

Highly recommend the home and office (studio) tour. We also did the self guided audio tour which is relatively short in walking and audio guide detail. The audio devices really need daily wipe downs, getting sticky, yuck!

Highly recommend this tour and experience. The docents are experienced and love what they do. You will learn so much about Frank Lloyd Wright and his family. Rooms within rooms, his early years finding his personal style, and preserving American history.

Delightful tour full of architecture and history. Wrights family assisted the trust in recreating everything as they remember it, and many personal anecdotes are told by the tour guides. Not a lot of time to take pictures inside, but I would 10/10 do it again!

The home is well worth a visit and I wont spoil it by going into any detail. Beyond that and something that should be treated as a part of the tour are the surroundings. The whole neighborhood epitomizes idealic suburban living. If Leave it to Beaver became a doctor or lawyer in his adult life he would likely live in a place like this. Take the day and walk to the little downtown area where youll find the church that FLW designed and the small eateries that look more expensive than they actually are.

There were so many creative little elements to the home, you can see how he tinkered around with ideas he had in his head in his own house while it functioned as a home for his wife and kids.

Parking was no problem, interesting tour, building was what I expected, gift shop is spacious enough that you can wait inside for your tour to begin (there is often a wait). It cracked me up that they ask people not to step on the fallen fruit from the gingko tree outside. Its inevitable!

It’s kind of small for the amount of money they charge, but the tour was fascinating, combined with the walking tour of the other FLW houses in Oak Park, it’s the perfect thing to do with out if town visitors on a nice day.

Book tickets in advance to ensure a spot on their guided tour. My friend and I ubered out from downtown Chicago and $27 later we were unable to book a tour without missing out flight. That said, their gift shop is very good. However, they wont ship but direct you to order online. The grounds are lovely and well shaded. I will go again and be better prepared.

Tours are limited to 10 people. There are spaces inside each room for family group to stand to social distance from other family groups.

Great tour, loved the ceilings in the house. The gift store is on the expensive side. Oak Park is a great neighborhood to walk around with or without the walking tour.

Driving around Oak Park is aweinspiring. Gorgeous designs from FLW are everywhere. Visiting his studio/home where he created his masterpieces is fun and informative. My 7 month old decided to stay outside and play with her daddy

This is a unique place to get a sense of Frank Lloyd Wrights history, but not necessarily be immersed in the planning principles that he used to craft dramatic and innovative buildings. While he did design the house himself, the house is not of his more famous prairie or usonian styles. The house is beautiful, and contains many examples of a Frank Lloyd Wright interior, but does not offer the immersive experience in coordinated design principles that some of the other historic properties do. For that reason, it has not been the highlight of my Frank Lloyd Wright experience. The house and studio are fundamental to understanding the man, and definitely worth a visit from enthusiasts.Rooms of note include the play room, which is amazing, the dining room, and the fireplace nook in the entry. Also extraordinary is the entire studio, which is a more immersive experience in his design principles.

If you love history, architecture and/or Frank Lloyd Wright you should visit this house. Little gift shop on site, street parking or you can get here using public transportation. Definitely on the to visit list if you are in Chicago, next spot the Oak Park neighborhood for more FLW.

Wow. Just wow. The home is incredible to see on its own, but the tour guides add a layer of depth that youd never get on your own. This is definitely worth a trip, even if you live in the city. It took me 9 years before I came here, and of course it took family visiting to make it happen. Just go, dont wait for family to come and force you to play tour guide.

You have to tour this iconic home and museum when you are in the area. It is just the tip of the iceberg for local architecture. Ive been on the tour a few times. Its worth seeing it a few different times of year. At least summer and holiday time. Also love the bookstore/gift shop. A great place to buy gifts for local ir out of town friends.

We came to Oak Park after reading an article in the Washington Post about Frank Lloyd Wright. His home and studio explained a lot about the thought that went into his design, his history with the Sullivan firm, and his family. A lot to appreciate and vice versa. He seemed to having a charming way of controlling just about everything. Had I met him in person, I think we would have been rolling around on the floor in about a minute. Just like Mr. Kaufman. Didnt realize how her was a precursor to the art deco movement. He had a major influence on how we actually live our lives to this day. And I suspect he knew it.

Great home to visit to understand the early married years of FLWs life. This is unlike any other home he designed, yet you can still see him in it. Lots of great history and knowledgeable tour guides. On street free parking. Definitely see this house if you are in Oak Park.

This is well worth a visit by anyone with any interest in architecture and particularly Frank Lloyd Wright. The house is well preserved and the staff are enthusiastic and helpful. The gift shop is full of quality Frank Lloyd Wright -related merchandise.

I really liked the home. The tour was very impressive as the guide was really knowledgeable. I knew a bit about Wright personally, but seeing his beginnings and the origin of so much of his genius was really fun. While the price may seem a little much, I believe that it is worth it.

You must see this fascinating house and studio. Take guided tour otherwise you wont hear the quirky history of family life in this well preserved gem. Easy to get to by train and a short walk through leafy parks and streets. A real highlight for design buffs.

I took the self guided audio tour. You have to get tickets early or risk being sold out for the guided tour. But I loved the walk around. Very interesting and enlightening.

This place is amazing! The house and studio are so beatifully designed, genious ideas, harmounios with nature. Interior tour guide was helpful and volunteer very friendly, they also told interesting tricks of those designs and warm stories of Wrights family staying here. Also dont forgot to walk around and enjoy those astonishing colorful houses behind. What a great place to stay. Special recommend and we will definitely come to visit again maybe in summer. :)

The tour provides great insights into the life of Wright. Original furniture and furnishings from when he lived there, makes it seem youre stopping in to say hello to him.

Great tour! This was FLW first home and studio. The studio is definitely worth the visit. After you can walk around the neighborhood and spot other Prairie style houses.

Went later in the day. The staff stood in a group chatting behind the counter and were disinterested in helping us. 3 stars because of the home itself.
