I enjoyed my first visit to the Museum. Lots of weather-related artifacts - forecast instruments, stations for a virtual reality experience of the solar system, casts of record-breaking hail (8 inches!), a tornado-damaged car & more! Loved it! Important historical pieces right here in the weather capital - Norman, Oklahoma!

The museum is in its rudimentary stages, so dont expect anything well-curated or fancy. Having said that, there is some great and unusal, historic stuff (e.g. original Doppler radar from the 70s) to check out. The director will happily give you a guided tour, which is cool. Go support this new museum.

For such a small place, it was very interesting. The discoveries in weather forecasting are displayed along with the various antique machines. It was indeed a huge wonderful surprise in a small box.

A brief glimpse into the history, technology, and impact of meteorological science. We were given a tour by one of the volunteers, and we never felt like he was anything less than a subject-matter expert. I only have two minor complaints: This gem really needs a better sign outside (we nearly missed it, and we were looking), and they need some funding thrown their way (not a negative on them). This place is a cool and fascinating little place, definitely worth taking the kids.

Very informational and brought a tear to my eye to see the camera that Tim created. He was beyond his years. They tornado car was really neat as well as the water vapor tornado and the sand geographical projector. The green screen wasnt up when we visited but we did play with what we could. It was also really neat to see the first weather component or rather station that had identified the first tornado warning. All of these things made my heart skip a beat. What made it the best was speaking with the retired head meteorologist of the severe storms Laboratory from the National Weather Center. We had a great conversation on computers and weather and how they are merging. He told me just how lucky I was to get in the area of concentration I did because I was truly saddened that I was unable to go for meteorology. Thank you very much!!!

We were not planning to visit the Weather Museum during our trip to Norman. We heard about it while we were at the National Weather Festival and decided to give it a try. We were so pleased with our experience! The museum director gave us a guided tour and explained the history of weather instruments and how the tools and sciences have evolved over time. The museum is new and it seems like they do not have many displays to look at, but we were at the museum nearly two hours. If you stroll through the museum on your own you will probably spend 30 minutes at the most. I recommend having a tour through the exhibits. Anyone who is interested in weather and the science behind it will have a good time!

Not only is it a great place to learn about weather (especially with the knowledgeable tour guides) but it also has great activities for kids to get involved!
