Nice double gate design makes it easy to get in and out without any dogs escaping. There are tennis balls and chuck sticks on site. People usually clean up after their pups. Water spigot for fresh water and some big bowls. Lots of space for your pup to stretch their legs without a leash on.

Great place for your pup(s) to stretch their legs and socialize. The park is clean and quiet and there are bags for waste as well as a watering station. Its beautiful and large and located in a great area.

There was a man with a rottweiler at the park today. The dog got into a fight on 2 occassions with different dogs which was alarming. The man was very defensive and didnt leave right away which is what I would have done. Other than that our pup made some new friends and had a great time!

This is a nice little dog park in the center of Ghent. Its a great location, the people are usually friendly. I used to bring my dog here all the time when I lived in Ghent. It was really nice being able to walk to it. It can get a little muddy after it rains and they will close it when this happens. If there has been a bunch of rain lately just be mindful it may be closed.

Ghent Dog park is a strategically placed dog park in the heart of Ghent. Ive been many times, and its vast openness and friendliness of patrons is what keeps me coming back. I love how its situated in a quant neighborhood that makes it seem more like a home rather than a park.

Very nice park, I love that it is so close to the shops! I wish the park had better grass but there is enough to throw a picnic blanket. I love that they have the balls to play with pups and bags to pick up after them. The neighborhood is very nice and so fun to walk around. I highly recommend if you want to spend some time with your baby and meet other people/pets!

This park is closed so frequently (and for reasons that dont make any sense) that it isnt even worth making the trip anymore. The water pump is very rarely working and even if it is, it is difficult to figure out if people have been messing with the pump valves. Its usually pretty crowded- which is great for social dogs- and the park seems to attract pretty responsible pet owners.Edit: I went to visit this dog park the other day and there was literally a police officer standing around the dog park ensuring that no one tried to go in. Not only is this an absolute waste of their time and the taxes we pay to employ this officer, but it blows my mind that someone felt the need to require this service.

Review №20

This dog park is in a great neighborhood and usually filled with friendly people and dogs. My husband and I often enjoy getting a coffee from Cafe Stella and letting our puppy play while we drink them. However, as a park owned by the City of Norfolk, I find it inappropriate that a private group has taken it upon themselves to police the park. While it may be admirable to raise money to make improvements, it is not the local residents responsibility to lock the park when it has not rained in days and there is no real safety risk. The park was closed for days this week because the wood chips were loose on the property.

I use to bring my corgi here all the time but lately many owners are bringing their aggressive dogs that end up fighting at the park. A few times I’ve brought my dog and these people’s very large dogs are harassing and biting my dog to point where he’s crying. I can no longer take him and I don’t feel that’s fair. Keep your aggressive dogs that have no social training at home. This is how people’s dogs get killed or seriously hurt. I understand big dogs need a place to play too.. and many of the bigger dogs are great with each other! But occasionally someone brings a dog that hasnt been around many dogs and it makes everyone else’s experience dangerous. Keep them at home or socialize them more before unleashing them at this park.

Ma

Dog parks are not for small children or babies. Have some damn common sense people. Theres no separate area for smaller breeds so this can be problematic when larger dogs get to running around and playing rough as dogs do. Someone brought their dog in who was limping and had a cone on its head- seriously?!? Defintely would choose the PETA park over this place.

Large park in the heart of Ghent that is an easy walk to Collect Avenue and Colonial businesses. Park has 2 entrances with decent parking all around. There are trash cans located around the entire park for collection of doggy poo, and honestly, they never seem to smell horrible like I would imagine. Water bowls, toys and some poop bags are located within the park. Well maintained with grass and landscaping.

The city locks the park gates strictly at 5pm all winter even when sunset is much later, like 5:30 or 6. They are also very unreliable at opening the park at sunrise. So, just dont count on being able to use the park when it should be open.Other than the hours issues, the folks at this park are generally really nice and responsible with their dogs. Its also fairly well maintained.

Our first trip to this park because the other one in Norfolk was closed. We pulled up and it was just a tiny fenced in area. We werent even going to stop, but our two dogs were excited so we decided why not. Well not even within 5 minutes both of our dogs had been bitten. Our 8 year old dog walked up to another dog that was smaller and it attacked his face. The owner then quickly left the park with her dog as it attacked two other dogs on its way out. My dog walked towards me and I suddenly noticed blood dripping from his face. Her dog had bitten his nose and ripped off the top layer to half of his nose and she said nothing. She just grabbed her dog and ran out! On top of that our other dog was running around and a bigger dog ran after her and when she got scared and cowered down he bit her on the back and the owner did nothing! Owners should not be bringing their dogs to an off leash dog park if they are not friendly! This was the first and definitely the last trip we will ever make there!

Its hard to decide whether to rate this park a 3 or a 4. Its just average. But the lack of grass, while understandable, is a big turnoff. When specifically planning an area as a dog park, the type of turf is important. Communities will put the money into childrens parks, and taxpayers pay for all sorts of amenities for children regardless of whether they have kids or not. But for the citizens whose animals are their kids, they arent afforded much consideration. Thats hardly fair, especially considering how hard pet owners try to please non-animal lovers. Cities can do better. The park is a fair size, has double gated entries at both ends of the park, several stainless steel water bowls of various sizes beside a water pump at one end and some mulch around the perimeter which is demarcated by wood members. The ground surface other than that is all dirt. There were dogs of all sizes, ages and breeds playing. There were a couple of Great Danes, a few toy breeds, many young and adults, a couple of seniors, and a handful of puppies, but thankfully none that appeared so young that they havent received their booster shots yet - that always makes me sad, knowing how often those pups pay the price with their lives, or at the very least have a very difficult and expensive fight to survive.Overall the playing seemed relaxed and without incident while I was there. Owners were conscientious of their pups behavior, correcting for the occasional humping, jumping or not heeding another dogs signals that it wanted space. In general owners were tolerant of other dogs behaviors, understanding that dogs will be dogs and they all have their issues, we are all in different stages of training. Of course, this isnt always the case and there is always the chance that there’s one owner who just doesnt understand how to treat others appropriately. Like the owner who didn’t get that its inappropriate to yell at and smack their dog, even if they feel their dog is embarrassing them. Yelling at and hitting an animal caused much more of an embarrassing worthy commotion which had everyone uncomfortably staring. And I was worried that I was going to be the one in the crowd, with the dog whos an uncontrollable terror. I wish I were that time. :(I would love if a dog park decided to install artificial dog turf. They would likely have to additionally install pop-up sprinklers to come on at night and rinse the surface down to keep it from deteriorating. Additionally there would be a need for leaf removal and perhaps additional poop bag dispensers to help encourage owners to pick up any feces they see even if they arent from their own dog. Sometimes its difficult to keep an eye on your own dog when there are so many dogs and so much activity. But if we all work together we could have a nice facility that stays nice and doesnt require giving our dogs a bath every time they play.
