First time there and it was awesome! This monument needs a lot of repairs but its place in history definitely needs to be told. You can only get there by boat. The Miss Hampton II is the main way to get to this island. This tour is so worth going on!

Great place to visit if you can make it here. Had the opportunity to visit while stationed at Norfolk. Made many trips here and actually walked and climbed everything. If you ever get the time make a visit.

It was a nice paddle out on a rough windy day. Unfortunately when I got back my phone was floating in my kayak. So I lost all the pictures I took. Its very historic ( old and run down) It is closed to the public now. Im guessing because its unsafe and very challenging to get to. Im not very big on old military structures. I think they should be bull dozed and have the land used for public activities instead of just ghost lands. But I will go back for pics later.

This place was completely empty. Supposedly their tourist season started earlier this week but the place was completely vacant. Supposedly Wool is open to public watercraft accees too, but they only have a dock for large craft, meaning I had to haul my boat up a flimsy aluminum ladder if I wanted it somewhere it wouldnt drift away. Once there, I read all the signs and left within the hour. All in all, a neat historic site, but not neat enough to plan a day around.

The Foort needs a lot of grounds work and also it needs to be cleaned up around the outside were the rocks are located

Awful. Spent 3-4 hrs just getting cleared to get a pass. Than no map of the base was given so it was like a goose hunt. Pack a lunch if you go...its 7pm and still havent eaten.

Miss Hampton II is the only way to get to Fort Wool. The stop @ this man made island is 35 to 45 minutes. One may be part of a guided walking tour or walk about the island doing ones own tour with the historical markers about the island.

This place is great, but the City needs to start doing some maintenance to the actual structure... a lot of it is crumbling due to a lack of care.

The park ranger at this island is rather power hungry over his half acre fort. The fort is not very interesting and the grass is full of painful pointy plants.

If you are ever stranded on the HRBT, tell AAA to search Ft. Wool so the dispatcher wont send the tow truck to the administrative office.
