The lobster is delicious! Its cooked perfectly, its super tender and its super juicy which I love. I also love eating all the guts and gizzards from it - so much flavor! The bread and butter were good and the chips were super good! Theyre pretty much giant slices of potatoes that are super crispy (hence them being chips). I liked dipping them into the lobster juices. The coleslaw was okay, as it has too much mayo in it for more.
First time ever in all my visits to Newport Beach had I entered Dory Fishing and Fleet.Great experience if you love seafood, freshly caught and prepared for the customers and the prices are reasonable. You have to come early to get the best selection, I only entered as never seen inside before.I was told a few tales of the fishermen and what they go through to get all that lovely fresh seafood. You find a great selection and will have a great experience, highly recommend. Thanks
First dine in for my partner and I since shelter in place started. Ive had this place bookmarked for awhile and we thought to finally give it a try since we wanted to celebrate a special occasion. This seemed like a great option as there was outdoor seating available. The tables were spread far apart and we sat ourselves down and ordered/paid from our phone. The lobster meat was wonderfully succulent and the bun was buttery and pillowy soft. I loved the lobster chowder, which had excellent flavor and was perfect for a slightly chilly evening. Food here isnt cheap by any means; this meal, a glass of wine and tip added up to nearly $100. However, happy to support a local business thats so obviously great at its craft. We will be coming back here again!
Wonderful fresh fish! At unbelievable low prices! Way better than Whole Foods or any other market
First time here and I just love to see the fresh fish, crabs, and lobsters for sale. Came here about 6:30 AM and there was a long line for crabs and lobsters. I was thinking about buying me some but with lobsters 25$/lb, I think I will pass for today. The seafood here seems to be super fresh. People were fighting over fish and fish mongers were gutting and cleaning fish on site, just love to see that. This spot is a great place to visit if you are a tourist. If you are planning to buy fish then you better come here early with your cash or else good luck.
The place is clean, better than other fish market. Youre buying fresh fish like butter fish or black cod, rock cod, Spotted prawns, stone crabs segregated female or male. Free fish cleaning, very nice and friendly vendors. Next time again!
Great seafood at great prices. It is a bit of a drive to get here but so worth it. Remember to bring CASH. Right side is the line for shrimp and left is for crab. Free parking in the early mornings. Make sure you get there early for the best selection. Also check Crabby Steves Twitter for an update on selections Friday night. He will let you know if there will be rock crab, shrimp, sea urchin, and fish available.
Nice place to visit but not many selections mainly just there for the shimp and bread crabs, all live, prices are very affordable.
Not a good place to buy fresh seafoods. Arrived there at around 5am and the line was very, very long. There seafoods are very expensive, shrimp $23/lb. crabs $4/lb. yellow fin tuna $20/lb. angel fish $10/lb. Not worth driving for 20 miles and standing in line for 90 mins.
Fresh sea food like rock crab/snail/a lot of fish
Great place to get live seafood at amazing prices
Never expect to find the fisherman seafood market in Southern California. There are live fishes, fresh fishes and live crabs on the day I go.Reasonable price.I bought the live cod fish to make the soy sauce fish. It is so delicious because of live cod fish. Will go again to get the fresh fish.
Fresh seafood on earth.
Good Crabs fish
Fresh fishes, local crabs, sea urchins and Santa Barbara spotted prawns sold directly from the fisherman. They only take cash no credit cards. They also shack the sea urchins so you can eat it there. They also offer to clean your fish with a fee. I went on a Saturday and they were open at 5:30am. Expect a big line on the live shrimps. All in all it is worth the wait.
Best crab ever
Best prawns I’ve ever had in USA.
Good Fish
LOVE this place. People are always friendly and helpful, especially Crabby Steve who helped me pick out crabs. Definitely recommend coming early, particularly if youre looking for urchin cause they were sold out at 6:15 when I arrived.
Nice fish selection, nice morning trip
Very interesting place to get fresh seafood by the sand. Know what you want, price, filet or steak, fresh from the water or one day old, and be there early...on or before 530 am
There is no better place to watch the sun come up than at one the awesome fish booths at Dorys. The freshest of seafood at a great price. Do miss the sea urchins!
Fresh seafoods..great buy for crabs, fish, prawns and sea orchins
Cant get much fresher fish.
Really good place to buy fresh dishes and alive crab/shrimps with very cheap price every weekend.
Love this fish market. Every weekend it has great assortment of fresh fish and crab. Friendly fishermen are ready to help you find the fresh fish you are looking for, and help you to clean it too. One important note, you need to get there early as market opens at 5:30am, and typically theres a long line of people waiting to get some fresh crab and fish.
Beautiful sea view and beach
The coolest place in Newport Beach!Fresh seafood almost everyday...foodie’s heaven! The only place i didn’t care too much is the uni stand. Bought few time bad ones from them. All other stands are great, never disappointed!
The Best Most Awesomest Place On EARTH! The Freshest Catch right in front of you! A most to come visit and see buy the freshest from the Pacific Here!
The fish here can be very good and is as fresh as it gets. Price at $15 per pound is average. The guy they hired to clean and cut fish does a horrible job at cutting. See my picture that I uploaded to see how much he cut off of top part of fish. Not only did he do this to one fish but both fishes. Properly done one does not take that much off of top part. One should cut only top part that is sticking out and not top part along with meat part of the fish as you can see in picture. This is the last shop on the left hand side. The gentleman is the bigger Hispanic looking man so if you want him to cut or clean for you be sure to tell him clearly what you want or even better to just do it yourself at home because he will do a poor job for you. Staff there are quite friendly otherwise. Shop lost two stars because of the way the guy cut the fish.
Stopped by at around 10:00 on a Saturday and unfortunately there was only one stand selling fish. Im not sure what time other vendors arrive but it seems like you wont want to arrive too early. The vendor that was open seemed to have a nice selection of very fresh fish.Definitely a neat beach atmosphere and worth checking out even if you arent in the market for buying fish.
You can buy fresh seafood at whole saleprice every early in the morning atDory Fish Market at Newport Beach Pier.If you want to buy fresh live shrimps and crabs, you need to be here before 6:30am.This fish market is located just infrontof Newport Beach pier. There are a lot of people to make long waiting line early in the Morningto buy fresh seafoods. Also, you can buy red rock cod which you can boil down in soy sauce. It is tender and tasty. You can easily steam crabs or shrimps withSmall amount of water.I remommend you to go here and enjoy cooking for fresh seafoods.
Need to get here early to have a better choice. Lesson learned. Still got some great fish for a great deal.
Best finding in newport if you’re a seafood lover!
Its 4:50am and the line is already a couple of hundred feet long. Be here around 4am (Im guessing) if you want first crack at the fresh crabs and fish, otherwise be here before 7 and be prepared to wait in line. People from Long Beach/LA and San Bernadino come here. They were out of crab by 6:15.Parking: available right near the fish market and the meters dont start until 8amLines: the left line is for crab and the right line is for shrimp, if you just want fish you can usually go right in
One of my favorite places to buy fresh seafood. Ive come here countless times, and never left unsatisfied. All the Fishers (Yes Ladies, and Gentlemen, and invited Transgenedered Species that is the PC non-gender bias replacement for Fisherman) are very friendly and knowledgeable about the fish they are selling. I even got a lesson on how to get to the yummy bits of a Sea Urchin from the cool girl that caught them. They always have the best prices, and so fresh theyre still squirming.Listen to everyone elses suggestions and get there early. Especially if its near a a solstice, harvest festival, or any other holiday. If its before 9 am dont pay the meters.I would share my awesome story about how I stopped in here one day, got sea urchin and sea bass, and left on the back seat. To run off and get a donut from a nearby business.....I got back started driving....vroom vroom made 4 blocks before I realized there was a cat in the back seat trying to get into the bag. But that has nothing to do with how awesome this place is so I wont.
You have to arrive very early. If you arrive and its dark then youve done well.
Amazing fish market, come real early on Saturdays! Try the fresh sea urchin
I arrived Saturday morning around 5:45 AM in Jan, and people were lined up for a crab, if you dont want to buy the crab, you dont have to wait in the line. Parkings are free till 8:00 AM. Fish is fresh but not cheap.Cash only.Windy and cold.
Sea Urchin **Fresh Seafood
Fresh fish, friendly fishermen and fisherwomen, fast service. Long line for shrimp and crabs so get there early.
I was just in last weekend, I got 6 sea urchins. The quality was really bad. They smelled, and tasted very foul. I have been to the dory a lot, and have gotten amazing seafood and shellfish, and this review is simply for my last visit which was awful.
Wish there were more fishermen. Great people there. Support this historical market. My kids enjoyed it.
Beautiful down town shops n so many places to eat, beaches r nice n ample parking
Crab season people got more crab than my family could finish for $50.
Great but you should be early in the morning.

Affordable price for raw seafood with quality but the waiting line is terrifying.
Get here early. like 5:30 on the weekends.. Great stuff..
The place is a dump. On Memorial Day week end all they had at 11:00am was a few shark filets in Zip lok bags not even on ice!
