If you look closely youll see spikes on top of the statues. Those are for the birds! No wonder it stays so shiny. Great landmark for meeting up with people.
Outstanding place to stop & relax in NYCAlso spectacular picturesque photo opportunity, especially at night. To capture the illumination of the surrounding skyscrapers. And perfect point for a meet up and starting location of horse rides. With an absolutely magnificent park (Central Park) just across the street.Value: Priceless Hey NYCHighly recommended Do LoveAbsolutely Like
One of my favorite monuments in Nyc by one of my favorite sculptors August Saint-Gaudens. The way it is painted... the way the light hits it and the allegorical stance makes you stop, look and wonder.... just a magical spot in this city of hustle and bustle. It’s also right near the entrance to the park/zoo so it’s a great place to people watch
Interesting monument. Easy to visit while being in Central Park.
Its called the Sherman Memorial or Monument. Both the American soldier and the Ancient Greek goddess of Victory statues look golden but are actual made of bronze which is eye-catching whether its sunny or cloudy . This is a must-see historical sculpture at the Grand Army Plaza near Central Park, NYC.The Union Army General William Tecumseh Sherman was famed for his war questionable battle strategies and tactics against the Confederates Army during the American Civil War in the mid 19th century between 1861 and 1865. One thing is certain, unfortunately, in war, almost everything is permitted!- Its noticeable from moving traffic.- Wheelchair accessible entrance.- No public parking in the area.- Pedestrian only. No vehicles allowed. No skateboarding or bicycle riding. No dice playing allowed as well.- No park public restroom available.- This is a good place to bring the kids in the summer or on a bright sunny day .- Feeding the pigeons is prohibited. This is commonsense! I would recommend this historical monument as one of the many city sightseeings to anybody whos visiting New York City.
There is an impressive monument of William Tecumseh Sherman at Grand Army Square on the southeast corner of Central Park in New York City. Sherman was a Union General during the American Civil War.The monument is the works of American sculptors Augustus Saint-Gaudens and Alexander Phimister Proctor and was dedicated in 1903. It was re-gilded in 2012 returning the statue to its original bright gold colour, which is how it can be seen today. Here you find an equestrian statue standing 15 and half feet tall, Sherman is dressed in military and overcoat while his horse is marching forward. In front of the General is a gilded angelical figure. Both stand upon a round oval shaped granite pedestal with gold inscription and engravings.Flowerbeds are placed on the sides of the monument providing nice colour and ambience to the Sherman monument at Grand Army Square. In the end, there are many monuments to view in and around Central Park in New York City. This is one that I have always found to be quite impressive. It is also worth checking out the Pulitizer Fountain opposite the William Tecumseh Sherman Monument on the other side of Grand Army Plaza.
Its a grand statue thats cool to look at and take pictures with. Youll like the area if you like to snap pictures.
This places is exceptional and implacably. The @General William Tecumseh monument is a wonderful gate away for everything. A sculpture made by gold in the middle of Manhattan close to @The Plaza Hotel the best experience for me.When I go to Central Park I always take pictures over here.
Its a cool statue. I also simply enjoyed being in the surrounding square.

Great place to take a break and people watch if youre not in a hurry!
I had a 10 dollar gold piece by St. Gaudins what a great sculptor he was, I was in awe.
Dont know the history of this statue, but it is an amazing sight. beautiful and majestic. also very nice place to just sit down and let your feet rest before your tour in the central park.this area is covered by NYPD security cameras, so this place gives you a feeling of security and calmness.
Beautiful
I was surprised to see that the horse was anatomically correct.

Great spot on the edge of Central Park. Been here a few times and even done the chariot rides through the park. Great place to people watch and get some walking in at the park.
The William Tecumseh Sherman Monument is a very pretty golden statue, located right at the entrance to Central Park, which must absolutely be photographed.
Beautiful place to hang out. I was lucky to be here the day all the flowers were blooming. it was unreal.
This area was renovated less than a year ego. The new statue with its golden glow seams beautifully crafted.
The tulips were in bloom, and its a nice respite from the scale that is Central Park.
Nice place to stop and take a break.

Bucket list checked today, awesome.
At this square sits the statue of General Sherman, where it stands watch over New York’s icons The Plaza Hotel, Central Park, Fifth Avenue and of course the most photographed spot in NYC, the Fifth Avenue Apple Store.
It is a good place to pass by. Mainly during the spring when you can find a lot of flowers you should take some pictures
Great atmosphere. Clean, good view of surrounding architecture. Statue itself is a sight to see.
Sherman was a great American hero who showed those dirty rebs who is in charge. He did indeed make Georgia howl!

This sculpture/monument of General William Tecumseh Sherman is one of the remarkable sculptures by a famous American sculptor and nyc resident Augustus Gaudens. In 1892 Gaudens modeled a bust of the general William who lived in nyc after Civil War. Superb and monumental piece of art.Visit.****
Popular corner to be in. 59th and 5th is home to the Plaza, the 24h Apple Store and the beginning of Central Park. Tons of tourists year round and most times of day. Watch out for pick pocketers and enjoy the atmosphere.
Its a monument amid the chaos of Central Park, Apple 5th Avenue, the nearby hotels, and all the foot traffic of NYC. Sensitive noses should stay north of the monument to avoid the horses standing on Central Park S.
Nice monument and popular Pokemon go zone
SE corner of Manhattans Green Jewel. Central Park
Very nice sculpture at one of the most popular landmark intersection.
Beautiful monument and perfect entry into Central Park.
Dirty, The MTA should do a better job in keeping the station clean both by the vending machines & by the platform
