Hudson Theater is a smaller theater although it is a good one. There is more than one bar and top of the line plays happen there. Theater is temporary closed due to Covid, but once it is up and running it is worth a visit.

Venue was beautifully antique and well maintained - take a moment to soak in the lush carpet floor, mahogany and gold ornamented interiors. Grab a drink or light snack at the fancy bars before you show in the holding rooms too. Service from the main door to ticket collection to ushers were carried out professionally and with a smile. Very consistent throughout which rounds out the experience on a positive note. The seats inside are a little close to one another to be prepared to get cozy with fellow audiences. The show Burn This features stellar performances by a 4-actor ensemble. I found it well paced and engagingly performed, with Adam Driver delivering astoundingly.

Easy to get to from Grand Central, comfortable facilities and seating, and clean restrooms. I had a great experience here and would definitely return. The seating in the back of the orchestra section was perfect. All seats in that section were good. I cannot speak about the other sections since I didnt go upstairs.

Now in its hundred and sixteenth year of existence, the Hudson Theater is one of the oldest Broadway playhouses. There are two full-service bars, one is in the Tiffany Lobby, featuring the original Tiffany glass ceiling domes dating back to 1903, and the other one is in the Dress Circle Lobby.Hudson Theater also offers guided tours. On this behind-the-scenes walking tour you will learn the rich history of the 115-year-old building, examine the meticulous details in the architecture, gaze at the original Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass, and marvel at the Broadway stage where Helen Hayes, Louis Armstrong, Elvis Presley, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Jane Fonda have taken their bows. The Ambassador Lounge can also be visited, an ideal place for an intimate and semi-private pre-theater relaxation and co-mingling. Usually the information about both the guided tours and Ambassador Lounge containing the respective details, booking info and directions will be send to your email a few days before the show, provided you purchased your tickets from the Hudson Theater directly.A free WiFi requires registering and providing your email address.

HEAD OVER HEELS FOR THE HUDSON:I went to the opening night of Head Over Heels. The Hudson Theatre is beautiful, seats were comfortable, and the space just the perfect size for the play offering a sense of intimacy so you felt connected to the play. The play, Head Over Heels was fresh, fun, funny, and upbeat. The message of acceptance about loving who you love is right on target for todays world.I loved the number Mad About You and the dialogue of the whole play was witty - and was my favorite part about the play. We are still chuckling over the line gentle hikes. Princess Pamela was so funny. I appreciated that each of the leads had a chance to shine with a solo. The costumes were perfect. My only complaint is that I am still singing all of the songs in my head...I guess I have the beat! :)

Went to watch The Parisian Woman last night. I didn’t read anything before hand because I don’t want to be influenced by others’ opinions. It was funny!! Uma Thurman and Philippa Soo are fantastic! Actually Josh Lucas too. All five actors are great!!I didn’t expect the story line is so current. Do hi see it and you’ll have an enjoyable evening!!Have to mention this beautiful theatre. The rows are wide enough to stretch your legs. It looks classic but it seems quite new. Perhaps newly refurbished? Coming from London, I’m surprised by how beautiful this theatre is.

Very good theatre in best traditions of old theatres. The show was awesome. Everywhere friendly and helpful staff, which were real professionals. They always had smiles and seemed to enjoy their jobs. We booked the tickets on-line and it wasn’t any problem to change them (tickets already waited for us in the envelope) and there was no queue. There are two full-service bars. Very good and easy-finding location. Situated near Times Square on 44th Street, between Millennium Broadway Hotel and The Premier Hotel. We would defently return. We were sitting in the orchestra, so the faces and all the show was very near to us and so it was very cool to see all the emotions of the actors

We went to a preview show of Burn This at The Hudson Theatre. The show was amazing but even more amazing because of the friendly staff at the theatre. They were professional and efficient but also had smiles and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The young guy who sold us our show merchandise was particularly enthusiastic. I saw my first Broadway play here (1984) it was amazing. For being the oldest theater on Broadway you couldnt tell by how well kept it is. The architecture is truely from a different era. I had a great time here and look foreword to coming back. P.S for those wondering about seats and what seats are the best this theater doesnt habe a bad seat in the house. Only downside os the lack of leg room. But other then that you need to make sure on your next trip to NYC you stop by and see a show here.

UPDATE: American Utopia closed but no sooner had it done so then the theatre was announcing another run starting in September! I had considered removing this review but since they have decided to bring back the same show, I wont be. I took down a similar Yelp review in good faith but will be revisiting that decision as well. Its terrible when moral conscienceness and doing the right thing go so much against what you would really love to do! I have been a fan of Talking Heads and David Byrne for over 40 years. I would love to see American Utopia currently at this theatre, I am sure it would be a spectacular performance. However, Byrne used Martin Greenfield Clothiers for the costumes. MGC provided Trump with his inaugural suit, and had done business with him before. Until the end of the 2016 campaign it might be reasonable to say people didnt fully understand the depths of Trumps evil and derangement, but it was certainly clear by then. His actions since becoming President have made it even more flagrantly apparent. If MGC were to express regret for their past dealings with Trump and would vow never to deal with him again, it would not be necessary for people of moral conscience to boycott them and everything connected to them. Unless or until they do, however, this is the only course of action. If you are reading this David Byrne, please, cease and desist all dealing with Martin Greenfield Clothiers unless or until they express remorse and swear off all future business with Trump.

Situated just off Times Square in New York on 44th Street, between Millennium Broadway Hotel and The Premier Hotel, the Hudson Theatre originally opened on October 19, 1903 with a production of Cousin Kate starring Ethel Barrymore. Built by Henry B. Harris, a famous Broadway producer of that period, the Hudson Theatre is one of New York City’s oldest Broadway showplaces. The 100-foot long lobby was the largest ever seen on Broadway at that time. Among the stars that have graced the Hudson’s stage are Douglas Fairbanks, William Holden, Helen Hayes, Edward G. Robinson and Dorothy Gish. Barbara Stanwyck and Judith Anderson both made their debuts on its stage. On September 27, 1956 the first nationwide broadcast of “The Tonight Show” starring Steve Allen originated from the Hudson Theatre. It was granted landmark status for both its internal and external features in 1987.

The theater isnt as fancy as some other Broadway venues, but the legroom is considerably better than average. The sound system is way too aggressive for a theater this size and is better suited to an outdoor festival, so you want to be careful and not sit too close to the front by the speakers.

Whoa!!! How could any theater that housed the unbelievably creative and masterful David Byrne be given anything other than ?!? I mean, are there really only 5 s to be handed out? Seems a crime in this case! Has anyone ever been more welcoming? More inviting? Opening his heart to the audience, making each of us feel like our presence was essential to his show--the show he shared with and identified as an immigrant (himself and his and full of virtuosos)! Went a long way with us: my wife being Japanese and kids being happily identified as mixed! It was our 4th time seeing David Byrne (with St. Vincent, at the Roots picnic, a lecture on, was it downtown architecture)! We love you...And thanks Hudson Theater for giving him a home for the split-second we all were so lucky to share!!!

Totally renovated in 2016-17 this theatre originally opened in 1903. The Orchestra level is very decorative. The dress circle and the balcony look and feel like a poorly finished basement. The balcony seats are small and cramped. The Orchestra level seats are wider with better legroom - but they are very uncomfortable - think thin inadequate foam over unforgiving plywood. The rear most seats in the balcony have a hard time seeing the upstage action.

My experience watching Head over Heels here was all around enjoyable aside from the chair size and isle width.Im 69 so I cant expect all the legroom in the world. However, my knees were in the way of the back of heads in the row in front of me. Due to some knee problems, the angle at which I bent my knees caused knee pain, so I moved during the intermission so I wouldnt interfere with others viewing, as well as just to be more comfortable.I would come again, but only if I would be able to sit off away from people so their experience and mine are less adversely affected.
