My favorite theatre in Los Angeles to see a movie, especially the Cinema Dome. I used to say it was more expensive than the AMC or Pacific Theatres which is no longer even true. Also, I recently ate at the restaurant located in the theatre and was quite pleased with the quality of food not to mention convenience.
This cute little artsy theatre, on the quiet cute only in the village/ off the city grid street with a natural bend, under a canopy of tree cover, surrounded by historical buildings is itself a powerhouse of theatrical works. When you walk in the place looks just recently renovated - modern, warm and clean. Walk in, turn left and the theater itself is immaculate. An intimate, perfect sized box of a theatre. The Playbill told the history - used to be a brewery along other things, but converted to a theater over a hundred years ago and basically everyone in the theater world has passed through here. Mike Birbiglia performed here last night and his one man show The New One was great. Looking forward to attending many more shows here soon.
I need to know when the theatre opens for my english homework.
A jewel of a small theater with a lot of impact. I saw the Confession of Lily Dare. The writing, acting and staging were tremendous. It illustrated that an actor can portray any age or gender through their craft and we can believe. A classic Hollywood tale with campy delivery that still sincerely touched my heart.
Located on quaint Commerce Street between Barrow and Bedford Streets in the West Village this off Broadway theatre is magical. Its tiny so its really intimate, the ambiance is great and youre sitting that close that you feel that youre part of the performance. The staff is also great, most welcoming and very friendly. The Cherry Lane Theatre is a must visit. Highly recommended.
Well kept off Broadway theater and black box studio. Consider this an opportunity to see shows off the main strip. Nestled in the heart of the West Village. See a show here and have a unique experience.
I have seen so many great shows here. From Mike Daisey to Charles Busch. Theres not a bad seat in the house.
Great small theatre tucked away in the village. Always fun...the Charles Busch play was great!
Let me begin by saying that this review is going to be very biased.Im going to rant a little due to the circumstances which encouraged me to go to the location, and I have no formal theatrical review experience. This entire writing is simply from my heart. Here we go!Upon reaching Cherry Lane Theatre, my first thought was Its very small however my reason for being there was BIG.The only time Ive gone to a play was either due to being in it myself, or going for someone else. So let me establish the background first.1. Im a die hard Overwatch fan. For those of you reading who have no clue what that is, the internet is your friend.2. Lucie Pohl was performing. She is very closely associated with reason 1; and is the reason I went to the theatre. The establishment is located on an end street but in a comfortably friendly area of Manhattan. The theatre itself on the inside is comprised of two parts. The first is a decent and cozy sized waiting area. The theatre itself is tiny, off-Broadway appropriate with about 20-30 seats maybe. These are simple steel frame, cushioned throw chairs. However this enables a production to get very intimate with its audience. So I digressed. I play Overwatch and Main (frequently play) Mercy. Lucie Pohl is the voice actress for Mercy. Get where Im going?Anyway the stage was set up for the production and Anjali Bhimani (voice actress for Symmetra in aforementioned game) is also in attendance. The night was off to a wonderful start. After a brief introduction to the wonderful actress, (I am terribly shy when it comes to meeting people I look up to) we are set to watch Lucie Pohl perform. For a solo woman act that lasts over an hour, there was never a point where I felt I needed to stretch and get comfortable or feel bored. Every second of Pohls performance was captivating. The house did a fantastic job of lighting, music cues and sound.Pohl herself was able to keep you smiling the entire time, bringing small but welcomed interaction with us and having a great time with her storytelling show. Her many voices, character interactions including ups and down within her timeline enticed you to know the next detail. And hard won tense moments were broken beautifully by comically curveballs. There were few times that you didnt think you knew the next task or occurrence which was important for me because I tend to pick apart movies instantly and know whats going on. Pohl was easily able to keep that curiosity going the entire time. Seriously, If you can see her show at some point... Do IT!All in all I can justify my feelings of empowerment in the arts through Pohls actions. Finding myself smiling after the show led to a brief and emphatically friendly photo op that caused me to spontaneously have a shirt signed (Thank You again Lucie for that!) and express my appreciation for both actresses in the short time they could gift to me.While both of my idols had plans for the night afterwards, I found myself thinking of what to write for this review once I got home.Honestly there is so much more I could say but unfortunately the review must stay somewhat focused on the location. However I can say that if Lucie Pohl does perform again at the Cherry Lane Theatre in the future, I am going to visit once more and enjoy the show again. in my vote, I put 5 stars. It really deserves 10/5 stars. Yes, thats 10 out of 5 stars. If I can get a Teleporter Online so I can instantly get to the theatre next time, Im 100% ready because this shows Hero will never die!For reference, Pohl is on the left and Bhimani on the right in the group photo.
Excellent venue in a beautiful neighborhood. I hope to see another show at Cherry Lane some day.
Cherry Lane has one typical older theater space & a new small but renovated space. The older space is not particularly comfortable but certainly better than the tiny seats of many Broadway houses. The new space has good acoustics & provides an intimate space where seats can be placed on three sides of the performance area. Because the stages are so close to each other its impossible to use the lounge while the second stage is in use.
I came here to watch Actually, Were F*****. The theater is cozy and small, but comfortable and Im convinced theres not a bad seat in the house. The play itself was interesting; I would describe it as a drama with social issues touched upon in it. The actors and actresses were pretty good, and they have student rush tickets for the shows here! $22 total and theyre sold an hour before curtain time. Not a bad theater, would recommend!
Intimate, yet comfortable venue. Ive attended at least a dozen performances here and enjoyed them all. Extremely difficult location to find though, so head out early to arrive on time for the performance.
Wonderful theater - they put on thought provoking productions in a relaxed atmosphere
They consistently put up great plays. I love the vibe of the small theater as watching a play ends up being an intimate experience.
Beautiful location and intimate little theatre with unique productions. Perfect exterior for photographers and urban explorers; or tourists in search of a pristine example of quintessential “Old New York”
Wonderful intimate space to see a show. Good acoustics. Good lighting. Three show we saw, GOD SAID THIS was excellent! Go see it.
Friendly staff, comfortable seats and temperature. GREAT SHOW On Your Knees
Very nice small theatre, cozy.
Located in a very charming neighborhood.
Always great shows! “God said this” was just amazing! Thank you so much for this kind performance! Love it!
An intimate theater with comfortable seating
Really enjoyed Actually Were F*****. Cute and cozy theatre, great stage set up.
Show was pretty good, acting was pretty good, BUT; after the show and before, the bar cafe area was not open, no food no coffee no drinks no opportunity to chat with friends and mingle, just arrive, sit and watch the show, it’s so sad that that’s all we do and we do not interact or have a chance to interact and discuss the show or have the actors walk around and chat maybe, too bad
One of my favourite theatres. Small and cozy. And any play watched there is worth watching.
Its tiny, intimate space which makes it easy to get immersed in the production but also makes it uncomfortable for long periods. The show we came to see was only about 80 minutes which made it bearable, so keep that in mind. Interesting programming. Located on a quaint little street in the West Village, and you can pick a number of great restaurants to visit before or after.
Cute little theater tucked into NYCs historic Greenwich village. I went to see Mike Birbiglia and thoroughly enjoyed the intimate setting. Staff was friendly and efficient.Major points! - there was a water jug at the front with cups that you could refill to your hearts content. This is great in the summer heat, but even better to find in a theatre where common practice leaves you with $15 water bottlesThanks Lane!
Exquisite performance in an old world theater. Bravo!
Great if a bit too long play with superb acting. Comfortable seats for a small theater.
Great little theater. Great shows that spark great conversation.
I watched an amazing play called Fade here and although the theater is very small, I happen to think its exactly why it was needed. Very easy to access and a very nice set up. Loved the theater I watched there. Overall a nice place to watch a play.
This theatre is the cutest theatre Ive ever seen. On a small side street hiding by buildings, the quiet environment in the middle of thr big city...I love it.
Intimate, professional and charmingly unpretentious. What a wonderful experience seeing Tyne and Tim Daly together in Downstairs.
Great experience and the show was fantastic. Small theater feels like you are in the room.
They stage some great plays in two intimate little theaters. Well worth checking out.
It is a good, and intimate theatre. However the space is very limited. Which is good for those who likes to engage with the actors. The restroom is very small with only 2 stalls. The seats are comfortable, and the staff was friendly.
What an amazing experience to see Tyne and Tim Daly perform in such an intimate theater. Something Ill never forget
Great venue with edgy plays.
#theatre Its a very pleasant theatre with a waiting area. Feels like a ski lodge.
Ive only been here once but it was great. A historic venue for theater in New York. Great place to see quality plays for a reasonable price
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the sound carried-- we were sitting in the row third from the back for the Colin Quinn show (right next to Jeff Ross!) and had no problem seeing/hearing him. Wish there could be more leg room though.
Its small but cozy and personable.
Intimate actors theatre. Many great actors have performed here over the years.

Almost always interesting - and sometimes surprised moving or stimulating. The theater is very pleasant, with great sight lines everywhere.
Cozy. Historic
Comfortable theater - wonderful productions !
Good energy... Innovative programming.. Fun place to hang
A very well built and beautiful theater. Productions are great too.
Very nice venue. The theater is small so every seat is really a good seat.
A pleasant off-Broadway venue that attracts quality stars and very good plays. The place is cold in the winter.
Cozy theater in a wonderful neighborhood. Truly enjoyable.
Cute little theatre
I little gem of a theater.
I loved the place. I saw a very off broadway play that was very good in the studio ( they had cancelled their main play but couldnt say why). The studio is a small room maybe for 50 people... beautiful. It was a great NY Village theatre experience.
Nice space. Can be a little confused, but great place to see a show
Very cold (sometimes) — being a sweater

Pride and Prejudice. Never thought I would laugh so hard with Jane Austin. Loved it!
Love this out of the way theatre in the heart of Greenwich Village.
I like regional theater
Small converted industrial space into a nice local theater
Very friendly staff and a very comfortable theater. Primary Stages, whose home is Cherry Lane Theatre, does excellent productions of new work in this historic but recently renovated space.
Ive seen multiple shows here and it is a great space.
Great theatre venue. Historic.
Beautiful and very small theater that attracts some big-time talent. The acoustics are so great and you sit so close you really feel like you’re part of the action.
Saw Colon Quinns New York Stories here and loved it! Great, intimate theatre experience
A lovely theater, even if it does have a distinct smell of too much tuna.
Small theaters on a charming street, interesting, if uneven, productions.
Great small off-Broadway house with a great theatre history.
A great little Theatre.
Greenwich area of manhattan.the clostest thing youll find to something similar to a rural town in Europe.this place captures the fun of sightseeing as well as the threatrical might of early cinema.
Working the Downtown Urban Theatre Festival this week. Great space!
Awesome small venue for avid theater goers!
Small, charming theater. Youre upfront and personal.
One of my favorite theatres for off Broadway shows.
