The Django inside the Roxy Hotel is a very cool and intimate jazz cellar. The venue features different jazz groups throughout the month and the show we saw had two sets (each about one hour). They don’t happily accommodate large parties so my group was separated for the show. Two drink minimum with no cover charge if you are a hotel guest. The cocktails were strong and the acoustics were loud. This place is a great winter evening date night spot. The earlier you arrive, the better your seats during the set.
We had an amazing time here for NYE 2019. Excellent front of house service from Taylor who accommodated our special request. Great band played (King Solomon Hicks) and many danced. Food was decent and smaller portions. Overall, an excellent experience.
Thank you Google for always being here for me. We ate in little Italy and wondered the streets until I pulled this place up on my map. It was crowded but we were able to find a seat at the bar. The bartenders were way busy but he managed to get to us with a smile. He made the best espresso martini! Wish I’d have gotten his name. He was so pleasant to talk to and I always ask for other recommendations and his suggestions for our next stop was totally on par. The jazz band playing was so good. What a fun place and great vibe. I’d even look into staying here next time.
Came here by myself when I randomly search jazz bar nearby on google map. Totally love the place. Its very busy but not too noisy to cover the performance. Music is great as well as the service. Drinks is around $17 - $20, fare price in NYC. I feel very comfortable just to come here alone and enjoy the music. Most of the bars in NYC are really noisy from customer talking but this place is a hidden gem in the hassle world.
We had an amazing night thanks to our server, Tre, and our host, Alvin. The atmosphere, energy was fantastic and the music set the right mood. The artist that night was Lauren Henderson, who did not disappoint. My Old Fashioned was made perfectly- it wasnt overly strong with not enough flavor to it. My wife ordered the Showstopper which was also excellent. We look forward to coming back here for our future date nights.
This is a great place! Awesome music, good vibes. The only thing was that the bar was really crowded and it took a long time to get drinks. But besides that, we had a great evening here!
Music is incredible! Party goers need serious lessons in reasonable behavior in small venues, with band members and associated dancers. Dont try to take hats, instruments or other items from band members as they play. Dont mean mug or attempt to bulldoze the band leader as hes conducting because hes in your way For everyones safety do not pick up, toss around, or flail your limbs or that of your dance partner trying to imitate what you think swing dancing is when there is limited space and waiters walking thru with drinks - just dont do it! (If you dont know how to control your body or share small space while doing so opt for a jazzy two step and on the spot turn until you do learn) And dont try to one up folks who are clearly professional dancers, accompanying the band for your enjoyment - just - dont - do - it - !!!! If youre going to interrupt the bands set to ask for a live version of happy birthday or whatever at least offer to buy the band leader a drink or TIP the band!!!
This place is very pretentious yet very bad. Don’t get me wrong, live music is amazing but the cocktails are horrible. The waiter said they mix all the cocktails in advance and don’t do any alterations. Guys, “a cocktail” means bartender’s creativity. When you ask people to pay $20 a drink you have to be at least resourceful. Buy a bunch of bartenders cookbooks, it will make your performance better. Very. Very. Very bad.
I have only been here twice and both times I had a blast. This is definitely a care free zone where everyone is there to have fun. If you come here with high heels they will definitely be off your feet by the second song. The music is very diverse for all ages. Very laid back and comfortable atmosphere, good drink and fun people around you. I would definitely recommend my friends come here.
This place is unforgetable! The atmosphere is gorgeous. Chris Norton was over the top Amazing! Ty the bartender was also amazing. Right on point! They made 2 nights of my NYC trip some of the best nights of my life! Keep up the great work!
Great spot, but way way overpriced. Feels like a big tourist trap. Limited good choice and probably some of the most expensive manhattans($17) & burgers ($25) we ever had. Dry loud, at the end of the day you will have a soar throat. Besides, the website is very confusing, if you care for jazz. There are two venues - Racy upstairs & Django. They have both two different websites and schedules, so you need to be careful when checking. And again it is way way way too loud when life music is not going.
Awesome little place to enjoy some jazz. Very small and came here during the Winter Jazzfest so there was a bit of a line but the wait was worth it. Bartenders really know their stuff and the place feels small and intimate like a good jazz club should. Dont be afraid to stand at the back by the bar. The acoustics are good enough for you to hear it all and the cocktails are worth a couple visits
Great spot for live music in a cool setting. Django downstairs for jazz, upstairs for some loungy magic.
Great place!!! One of my favorites in the city. I have lived in NYC for over 5 years and recently discovered this place. Friendly staff, amazing drinks, really cool atmosphere all together. It is a hidden gem in the city located in the basement of The Roxy Hotel. Dancing, live jazz, fun crowd.
Came to see the Hudson Horns and they delivered everything and then some!! This band is ...in a word... formidable! Would recommend coming to enjoy their sound and what the Django has to offer!
Amazing show. Great hospitality will definitely be back
Great date spot, good drinks, great music! Just make sure to make a reservation in advance
Finished off our 5 day New York experience. Great place, service excellent and really good music/ vibe.
Live music. Jazz bands. Speakeasy vibe. Decent table service. Better bar service. Great place for date night. Comfortable ambience. If you enjoy being around noise and people without interaction this is the spot
Cool little venue in the basement of the Roxy hotel. They had a Cuban singer that evening and felt like a scene out of a movie with people dancing salsa...Great ambiance and drinks were good too!
Great music and atmosphere... Mac and cheese alone was to die for.
A very pleasant place with good musicians and ambiance. A bit loud but you can get good seats if you arrive a bit earlier. The service wasnt very performant with long wait for very simple dishes. The cocktails are good with descent proportions but the dishes are pretty small.
Great location, live Jazz music and food. Highly recommended. -1 star since the acoustic is not great (its ok, not terrible), it might be a little difficult to hear your friends at times and you cant see the band from most seating areas.
World-class music coupled with world-class cocktails! It can get a little loud, some nights but always has the possibility of becoming a listening room, when the crowd is into it. The atmosphere of this basement club will transport you to another time and place.
Come early to get seats.Food was good as well as the service, nice drinks and great music.
The only saving grace was that they book good artists. Even the charming interior couldnt make up for the abysmal service my party of 6 received. Orders were forgotten, drinks were messed up and spilt with no apologies. Worst service Ive had in years. Its a cute spot but a total let down. It couldve just been a bad server but the standard was set lower than the restaurant itself.
The vibe is great, decor fantastic, but the best part was the show. We danced nonstop for hours.
Great place great vibe good music and drinks.
Great place for jazz. The location is very nice. BUT: the girl at the entrance and the waiters (above all the bar tender) behave like if they were the only ones left in this world able to do their job. I know is Manhattan, but relax baby. You are just what you are.
Django is a perfect example of a good idea (of live jazz in cozy settings) completely ruined by 1) a series of hostesses, time after time, with remarkably similar mean attitude, 2) inept servers, 3) charges for items not ordered, 4) concurrent birthday party drowning out the music. A separate issue is the event schedule on the website (and outside the Roxy hotel) that does not correspond to the actual performances 4/4 times i went there in the last 6 months. Can somebody finally fire the current management and bring this place back to the wonderful venue it used to be in 2015 when i first discovered it??
Swing-Jazz in a basement.
Amazing atmosphere and what a talented band! Plus the drinks are delicious!
Fun underground jazz club. Great drinks and food. Good music.
Sooooo nice! Yummy snacks and drinks and friendly staff, the music was great too.
If you want to ruin your evening, the Django is a right place to go. It lures you in for a nice evening with jazz music played by great bands. Instead, the performance started 1.5 hours later than scheduled. Performance itself we could neither enjoy nor see nor even hear anyway because there was a big loud party of 30+ people. In addition, after waiting for 30 mins to get a glass of wine, we finally got a check with items we never ordered. The management should think harder on how to properly organize the live jazz and big loud parties because the two are definitely incompatible.
Such a shame. A gorgeous place, a great band, but not a nice experience at all. How happy we were to be in such a beautiful bar listening to jazz, but how uncomfortable we felt because of rediculous prices for drinks and unwelcoming staff. As soon as they noticed we were not going to spend 300 dollars, they didnt take care of us anymore. A cold and arrogant vibe. The manager walks around with such an attitude that the feel for making guests feel welcome was completely gone. We waited 25 minutes for as much as eyecontact to finally pay the bill... and go home unhappy. Such a pity. Goes to show how valuable good hospitality is and a correct balance between price and quality.
Ridiculously amazing night!!! Absolutely amazing time!!! Great drinks, great staff, and beautiful experience. Make sure to come classy!!
Fav jazz spot. Food is on point too
Great performances, 15 dollar cover, super talented artists
Downstairs - live jazz with terrific food and drink. Reasonable.
Cool spot for a variety of jazz. Beverages are dope! Great date spot. Tuesdays are good for late night dancing.
Had an amazing experience, service was great, Brian my server did a great job and as for the host Alan he was fabulous, he made sure we had an amazing table with a great view to celebrate my friends birthday.
Amazing place. Had an excellent band playing on a Thursday night!
Service was ok. The music was outstanding though.
I enjoy jazz music. I suppose there is a lot of variation in types of jazz. In this respect, the venue was interesting, so was the food.
The best lounge with live music in NYC
Looks nice, only came here for a red carpet.
Very intimate jazz lounge. Felt at home right as I came in. Good performances, great food. The only thing that threw me off were the prices, but this is the norm for the city & jazz spots.
The Django is a classy, underground spot within the Roxy Hotel. Great quality and selection of cocktails. Live jazz is a staple here and really underlines the uniqueness of their calling card.
Very cool place, a little pricey but perfect for date night. They have live bands several nights a week. Check their website for a schedule of whos playing!
We gave them a coat, received a ticket, and at the end of the night, ticket in hand, we received nothing but limp apologies. They handed the coat to someone else. Totally unacceptable. Our frustration was met with a shrug. Avoid like the plague.
Overpriced. Crowded. Came to dance...not a lot of room to dance. They didn’t have any tables, so they put us at the bar (10 dollar charge to seat per person) later a table opened, we moved to the table and didn’t expect a charge to be re-seated (another 10 dollars per person)Didn’t know sitting could cost so much.
Love the experience. Great service.
Excellent jazz and drinks
Great little club in a old subway station
Fantastic service and upscale vibes. Great for a date with the SO.
Awesome vibe, amazing jazz band. Seating situation was a little frustrating since there were open tables but they wouldnt seat us.
Great jazz club. Peter and the master keys are great
Fantastic music and great service.
Way over priced food. Music was amazing
One of the best spots in town for jazz and cocktails. Make sure to reserve a table.
Pretty amazing vibe and location, kinda pricey!
Amazing! Very cool.
Cool place, great music with live band playing.
Very expensive and so noisy that music can hardly be heard
Great place to listen to jazz and dance the night away
Quintessentially NYC chic.
Great place to visit. Skilled bartenders, great drinks. Jam sessions had talented musicians. Would go back again. $$$
Very classy, tasteful, upscale, beautiful place to invite friends or a date, evening gown would be a good fit.
Good atmosphere, nice music, although the bar tender doesnt know what they are doing. Of all classic cocktails we have ordered, all of them did not taste right. Considering quite a high charge for drinks Id rather picked a different bar. But its a great place if you just want to listen to the music.
Great jazz setting!!! Isaac was a great waiter! Wonderful service.
We would give it 8.5 here it has a verynice ambient
Excellent Jazz club!
Hidden gem in a really unique setting. Wines were not so good though.
Great ambiance, service and selection of drinks.
Disappointing service. Couldn’t enjoy the music because we were so hungry. Waited 1.5 hours for my meal with my hangry af girlfriend. Put a damper on the night.
Great music show and ambiance but service was very sloppy. While we went to dance and to say hello to friends at other table, they cleaned up our table and sat other people. They did not care all our stuff (wine bottle, jackets, purse, phones) were on the table. The explanation they gave us...they thought we left without paying...Worse is, the place was not full, so they could have given them other table before displacing us. They apologized, gave other table and comped us the cover charge, but in any case it was awkward. To avoid all of this: just go to the bar, get a drink and enjoy the good live music.
Awesome food and fantastic atmosphere
