The Schubert Theatre has a great selection of shows as well as events.
The Shubert Theater is a classic historical venue, with some modern touches added like restrooms on every floor and a nice lounge area. The staff is very friendly, and will help you to your seats also. The seats are a bit small but all have good views of the stage, including old school private boxes on either side. The variety of performances offered is large, from political debates to comedy shows, ballets & musicals. Signing up for the volunteer program is a great way to see these for free, I highly recommend this!
The theater regularly has very popular shows, which is great since this is not NYC and you cant drop hundreds of bucks on musicals every single week. Seats are not that cramped nor staircase that steep. Restrooms are always clean, but there arent a lot of them, so take care of your business before the show and not during the intermission!
Beautiful theater downtown. The upper balcony seats are steep but you still get a good view of the stage. If possible, I suggest aiming for the box seats for the best view. Theater is clean and comfortable. Great selections of drinks and snacks at the bars. These photos were from March 2019 Paula Poundstone
I think the Shubert is a great theater with a wide variety of show and a convenient location in CT (at least for me it is). Its also surrounded by a TON of restaurants, so youre spoiled for choice when it comes to having a meal before or after the show. One thing I really like is the fact the Shubert lets you see the entire seating chart and pick your seat when booking a show online. This may not sound like anything out of the ordinary but a few other theaters in CT only let you pick sections and then they give you random seats and theres no way to tell if there are better seats without starting over. The Shubert does NOT do that to you.Ive been here twice so far and what I love most about the Shubert is how small it is, which means a lot of the seats are relatively close to the stage and you have a great view. The Mezzanine overhangs the Orchestra at Row H, so you start off only being about 8 rows back. Even the back row of the Mezzanine isnt too far. I believe the Balcony starts a couple of rows further back than the start of the Mezzanine, so still a good distance but I havent sat up there. The seats are comfortable. Im 56 and both times I went (Mezzanine) my knees did NOT touch the seat in front of me. Given how tiny some theaters seats can be, thats a good thing. When you first walk in, there are 2 little bars - one in plain view and one behind the stairs. When you go up a level, theres a huge bar with a lot of seating. Theres also an outdoor patio area with more seating. Entrance to the Mezzanine is another level up from there and it has a tiny bar. Bathrooms on every level. Although, I havent sat in the Balcony, so cant speak for bars or bathrooms up there.Well definitely be back. Love this place :-)
Beautiful historic theater which presents a variety of shows. Full service bar on the ground floor, with beer, wine, and soft drinks available for purchase on the upper floors. Definitely worth checking out if youre in New Haven.
Nice old theater. Saw a Yale Opera performance. Sat just left in balcony. The seats are cramped and there was an odd safety bar partially blocking my view of center stage. It was a challenge to see and hear at times. Next time I think Ill pay more and sit in the orchestra. Note to other would be guests; Please dont talk, eat or get up in the middle of the performance. I missed one of the best parts because someone decided they had to move to another seat five minutes before the intermission.
Its a beautiful theater. Everything was wonderful! The ushers were so nice.
Love going to the Shubert! Great performances wonderful shows! Good restaurants nearby . A fun evening or afternoon for all! And easier than going to NYC!
The Theater experience was welcoming, organized age appropriate activities were available for the children. The show was perfect for the children and met our expectations. I was very impressed by the staff interactions with the children and adults.
I really want to enjoy this experience, except that its so hot in here, and the seats so cramped that it ruins it. I am loving the production of Beatlemania, but so so uncomfortable! Everyone around us are saying the same things.
Broadway shows close to home! Every seat is a good seat. Ticket prices are reasonable. I love the rich history at the Shubert too!
Saw the musical Sex In The City tonight. It was absolutely hilarious!!
Watched phantom of the Opera here . They have done a great job renovating this theater......and always such a wonderful staff!!!
Very nice small theater. All seats are pretty good.
Sure the seats are old and uncomfortable but the shows are great and the employees are help is well trained and considerate.
Its always a pleasure. Have yet to have got a bad seat throughout the shows we see. Friendly enviornment and always a good time.
Beautiful theater. Great view of stage. Staff very helpful.limited snack food average cost.very nice venue.
Most popular local theater for all kinds of dramas and performances including school plays
Shubert is absolutely gorgeous. Its been around since 1914 I believe. The architecture is breathtaking. I havent seen a show here yet but the ones weve put on with our students have always felt extra fancy because of the ambience.
Three of us were here to see the play the Bronx Tale. It was wonderful. The actors and stage props made you feel that you were on the streets of the Bronx. The staff was friendly and professional. Seating is good and they have drinks and snacks before and during intermission.
Shubert Theater is a wonderful theater. It is beautiful. I love seeing musicals and plays when they go on tour and come to the Shubert. The staff is also extremely friendly!
Heat off the charts, 90?took my shoes and socks off, only t-shirt and pants. Still too hot. Sound so loud that I only could make out 20% of the dialogue. Did they adjust either for 2.5 hours? No.
Great theater in New Haven & had some awesome shows for many years...
I love going to the Shubert. They have great shows.
A great theater that has some great show acts and comedian shows ..they are fantastic. We love the Schubert.
Great place! I just saw Peter Pan with Sacred Heart Academy Hamden, CT
Went to purchase tickets. Young lady at window was very pleasant & helpful.
Excellent shows, great staff, easy access to parking next door, many restaurants in the area. In all, a great place to see a show. Every seat that I have sat in has had a very good view of the stage.
Great place, I wish there was a little more leg room when it comes to the seats. Watched dream girls.
Tonight I went to see the NY KINGS OF COMEDY and it was AWESOME !!! They were all amazing, had the best night. The Shubert is beautiful, ALL of the employees are so nice. Hope they continue to bring comedy shows and I cant wait to go back.
Technical difficulties plaqued the show for 10-15 minutes. Wall paint is peeling and could use repair. Reasonable price
Old school theater every seat seems good
I went there for my own concert, so Id have to say, as a performer, the place was really nice. Seating was amazing (I watched other performers), and though there wasnt much wriggle room on stage, I still had a great time.
Wonderful performance of Rudolph. Cast put their all into it.
Great theater with old fashioned charm and a great place to see live theater and other shows!!
Saw Rent, have been to the Shibert many times and have never been disappointed.
I sat in the mezzanine and had a great view of the show. Buy tickets in advance, arrive at the theater early, and enjoy the history of the theater as well.
Theres not enough space for the legs if your tall or a big person uncomfortable sitting
Clean and nice interior. Bathrooms are well kept. Sat in the mezzanine section, spacing is not for tall people. Youve been warned. Haha
The seats are probably the original ones, so like other vintage theatres, its a tight fit unless you are petite! Least expensive seats are still good, but it was warm up there! Good show!
Great theater, great shows, easy parking and great restaurants...
Great seats anywhere to watch a show.
Love it here! They have great shows, friendly staff, and it’s affordable. It’s so nice to enjoy professional theatre locally, in a beautiful venue! Parking is super convenient, right next door and the concessions are reasonable. Why go to NY to see a show when you can get the same experience with better seats right here in CT? The Shubert makes theatre accessible!
Went to see Spamalot, thoroughly enjoyed it, Been a subscriber for over thirty years and the Shubert has added much enjoyment to my life, and, first my mother, then my young grandchildren ( all young adults now) and now my daughter....accompany me. It was my pleasure to treat them, and in some cases, to introduce them... to live theater. So, thank you, Shubert, for all the wonderful times!!!
Really beautiful theater. Easy to get to and right next to a parking garage for easy parking.
The King and I was one of the best shows I have seen in a long while. I love the Shubert and all the wonderful restaurants surrounding it!
Beatiful show with very talented singers
Accessible, good views of the stage, reasonable drink prices, very nice venue
Ive seen several shows here i.e., Christmas Carol, Stomp, etc. and all my experiences were quite enjoyable; depending on when you buy tickets and where you want to sit the prices are considerably reasonable, nice size venue, good place for a casual, fun evening alone and/or with family and friends!
Great shows at a reasonable price .
We saw our daughters dance recital with the Tia Russell Dance Studio on June 22, 2019, they have a 3 day performance on June 21, 22, and 23, 2019 and the show was a sell out almost with 25 seats left and the show was phenomenal our daughter danced so well too.
Beautiful place to enjoy live music, or theatrical production.
What a great environment to see a play!
To laugh until your side hurts is the best. Lewis Black provided that. To experience laughter in the beautifully restored Shubert theater makes it all the more memorable.
Beautiful space & attentive service. I had not thought of it for daytime events. Perfect setting for networking, seminars, breakout sessions & public speaking events. Thank you Carla for hosting the Bank of America Community Celebration today.
We certainly enjoy the Shubert! Orchestra seats before row L are best or the first few rows of the balconies are good too.
Nice lobby, nice stage, nice atmosphere, friendly staff....HORRIBLE SEATS. Compared to Tha Garde in New London or The Providence Performing Arts, the leg room is ridiculously small. I couldnt wait for the show to end so I could stand. So very sad.
Very cool old theater....seats are very tight...
Great show. DREAMGIRLS, a must see
The kids loved the show we went to see. there wasnt much talking. the performance was about making music with everyday items and it was great.
Great theater to sit and to perform. However the audio is a little bit old.
A terrific venue in Downtown New Haven for off-Broadway and touring shows. We saw a wonderful production of Rogers and Hammersteins Cinderella. The theater is intimate yet spacious enough for large productions. The three balconies allow for a large audience when needed. Warning that the 3 or 4 left and right orchestra seats appear to be restricted in view. Get center seats for the best views.
For the most part, this a well organized and charming theater, primarily putting on traveling versions of Broadway shows, most well done. Would get 4 stars if seats werent crammed in.
I feel like I would have more room to sit down inside of a sardine can. These seats are so small I wonder why my 600 lb life hasnt called me yet. Literally Ive had more space on the public busses.
Easy to find, ample paid parking right next door. Classic venue to see a show.
Great little theater just dont get balcony seats!! Its like skiing down a black diamond to get to your seats!
Our perennial favorite destination for The Nutcracker
Great venue. Wonderful shows. No bad seats. Amazing ushers, etc. elevators to higher levels.Balcony seats: great views but more of a challenge to get to— not as scary as it looks! Bathroom on floor below.
Went to see my granddaughter dance, loved it so much
Nice cozy play for a show.
Love the seating setup at this theater
Seats are congested and you should be careful when moving
Beautiful and class theater, NY Kings of Comedy tour was fun . The experience was great, giggling my life away .
Always a pleasurable time!
Saw Beatlemania, great show
A pretty large and wonderful theater, though it could use some improvements on toilet cleanliness and a few issues relating more on general cleanliness issue. Overall, prettt good theater.
Great location, plenty of places for lunch before the show too.
Been to two shows here this year. Sat in the nose bleed section for one and orchestra for second. I wouldn’t suggest the nose bleeds, not a pleasant experience but the orchestra seats were awesome.Parking is typical city parking, limited. The garage right next door is inexpensive but takes so long to get out of post show. I’d suggest parking elsewhere and enjoying the city.
The Temptation show was Great, had fun!
The Shubert is a true gem in the elm city and also the tristate area. The historic feel to the establishment does not go unnoticed and adds charm to every event. We have seen everything from blue man group to musicals to kids plays and they were all fantastic. Plus you have all of new haven to explore before and after your show
Love this place. Wonderful little theater. Took our Granddaughter to see her first Ballet here. Nice intimate setting.
Classic beauty. Great staff, sight lines and sound!
Always have a great time at this historic theater
Nice to have a great theatre so close to home.
Great for children and fun events
They were funny as Hell... Lol
Nice spot just felt like i was in middle school again because of the small seats
Saw Beautiful.. Great music. Awesome show. Have always loved Carol King. Fun girls day out.
Great place to see a show. Plenty of seating and decent legroom. Theres a parking lot right next door and plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance.
We went to see rudolph the red nose reindeer, my daughter loved it. The seats were in the balcony. But for the price and seat were good enough. Staff were really attentive
Les Miz is an excellent production. Great cast with great voices. Must see!!
Toured here with Amazing Grace. Free popcorn during load out! I love popcorn. It stayed fresh for days.
Nice Theater centrally located in New Haven. They have a variety of live shows. The staff is very friendly and courteous. They are always happy to help.
