Worked a Louis CK event at this venue. Great atmosphere, fabulous and efficient staff. Smooth flow and great customer service. They serve well priced drinks, and snacks Iike hot dogs, popcorn, and pretzels. Some food options nearby in walking distance too if you want a meal before or after a show. Also parking is cheap!
Great little theater to go watch a show of any sort at. My husband and I just recently went to go see Louis CK and the size of the theater was perfect! Every seat in the room was good. The staff was friendly and the entrance and exit process with locking up cellphones and checking bags seemed to go very quickly and smoothly. Would love to go see something else here.
As always, an awesome show with Louis CK!!!So glad to see him back and better than ever!Very proud of the excellent security and attentive staff at the Theatre.Louis set was absolutely hilarious, cutting edge, revealing and cringe worthy... Classic CK!!!Thank you all for an amazing evening... My face hurt from laughing so much!Stuart
Very nice theater in a very nice college town with a big city feel. Great restaurants, and a couple very good coffee shops nearby. If you are in Philly, Jersey, or New York, this can be a great place to go to catch a show. Rutgers home town of New Brunswick should get more visitors, and Rutgers is growing, so this is a place to come and check out. Easy trip by car or rain from Philly. Friendly ushers and staff at the theater.
Historic vaudeville, RKO, and now stage-house, the nonprofit State Theatre is a staple must in central Jersey outings. Great selection of shows. The venue hosts professional musicians and celebrities with live concerts, showcases symphonic orchestras, spectacular Off-Broadway productions and even comedians. Programming for children and families, and school partnerships. The theatre has a historic charm, well maintained interiors with beautiful lighting throughout the building and during performances. Bathrooms can get crowded, as can concessions. Parking is also often difficult and almost always is pay-parking at a nearby location.
We have been here before for other events. This time it was for Beautiful. We got there almost an hour early and I was wondering what we would do to kill the time. Turns out a theater professor and some of his students prepared a fee talk relevant to the show. It was informative and entertaining. I found the show more entertaining knowing the background that the talk presented. Turned out this was the first time they did this and are planning to do it for other shows too. Hope to see it when we go back for Jersey Boys. Parking is convenient and not to expensive. Production is good. Will be back.
Great time ! Don Felder sounds great and played all the hits spanning decades. He came out after the show shook hands and did signing. On our way out we noticed band members were outside and had good conversation. Venue is of smaller size and provides intimate setting. Drinks available and parking was easy.
Have gone to see a number of concerts this year. All of which have been wonderful. Very well organized, staff is very pleasant and acoustics are perfect. Cant wait to see another concert there!
Very Nice venue! The stage was a bit small, but the acoustics were fine. Not a bad seat in the house and tickets were very reasonable. Will definitely visit again.
The State Theatre is a performing art center which attracts a variety of artist. There is sufficient metered parking on the street but, you are better off parking at the numerous parking garages for a small fee. This way you can get an early or late bite to eat and drink to me your budget. The theatre is the right size to see the performers. They have renovated the theatre and seats are comfortable. Many famous performers have appeared here.
The George Street playhouse theater is lovely Im surprised they allow you to bring food into this new venue. You think they would reward their longtime loyal patrons of the George Street playhouse with parking vouchers that are less than $15. I would rather contribute that parking fee to their annual fundraising. They could work out a deal with the local parking garages if they wanted to. This first show of the season was okay. I cant imagine that would go on to Broadway, but I v been surprised before.
Terrific experience. Renee Fleming opera singer extraordinaire my favorite lyric soprano performed to an appreciative packed house. Sound was excellent, it is a smaller more personal venue than the Met, PAC, or Li.mel Center. There are many additional programs this year worth while to attend. The parking garages were accessible and plenty of concert goers walking around. A pleasant experience
Awesome venue with the perfect size and a great sound system. HOWEVER, the no video policy was pretty annoying. The staff militantly enforces it and would shine bright LED flashlights at anybody who held their phone up to take a video. Really detracted from my concert experience last night.
A great theater for a wide range of performances, last week I went to see the New Jersey symphony orchestra perform Rachmaninoffs 3rd piano concerto, along with other pieces, an amazing performance by all members. The theater is comfortable, not too squeezed. Youll never be disappointed by the performance there.
The State Theatre is a lovely venue for plays, concerts, magic shows and shows of any type. It has comfortable seating with very good to great views. There is a bar area for many types of beverages, water and snacks. Restrooms on both levels with an area upstairs also for stretching during intermission. There is valet parking across the street at the Heldridge Hotel, other parking garages near the theatre or street parking with meters.
Always Great Entertainment. So much Talent coming through this Theatre
Fantastic selection of shows at this nice venue. Wonderful accoustics coupled with a great sound system. Superb location near Rutgers. College town feel with a huge selection of eateries, bars, etc. Some free parking available nearby. I think the place could use updating. I wish they would not allow food and drink in the seating area. It can be distracting and messy.
I had a great time here. We were way up in the balcony and the view was good although we were far away. The acoustics were pretty good even being that far back. I would go again.
Nice friendly staff, easy access location with many restaurants to visit after the show. You can get a beer to help you endure your sons nerdy show. (Just kidding, I liked the show too!)
My first at The Theatre, We saw Rocktopia. The show and Theatre were amazing.
Beautiful performing arts center! Would definitely recommend going to see shows there, particularly the Broadway season.
Never would recommend this theater. My daughter is post transplant and post cancer and she came down with flu suddenly. And even with me offering a doctors letter along with proof of a complicated health history they basically refused to refund my tickets. Even a voucher to come back for a different show would have been appreciated. But they are very unhelpful once they are paid it seems.
An AMAZING show and an equally amazing venue.
We were there opening night of Fidler and it was freezing cold inside. Our seatmates told us that during a prior show it was so hot that theatergoers were falling asleep. The seats are way to low and are incredibly tight. Very uncomfortable. The prices at the concession stand are extremely high but we were desperate for a hot cup of coffee due to the cold. We have 2 more shows and we hope by then theyll learn to control the temperature inside.
Nice staff, clean, roomy seats for legs. Excellent performance
Fine and historic theater. Lovely staff. Always a great time!
Broadway musical season pass holder.Wonderful shows always!!!
Very nice theater, great staff. The seats are a bit small and no place for drinks, bit its a classic.
The venue was small but was kept clean and orderly
What a great program for children. Super affordable way to introduce kids to the arts
Show was great. They could use some new seats--theyre a bit worn. All in all great performance and great evening.
I loved it. Perfect for family time. You should really go
The show was great. BEAUTIFUL The seats were small not comfortable. The actors were terrific.
We see lots of shows here. Conveniently located, nice variety of shows and close to restaurants and parking garages.
A nice small venue to get up and close with since of the larger touring shows. They get a lot of the shows that also so at NJPAC. The theater is walking distance from the train station if you would like to avoid traffic. They also have a good childrens program for different ages. Seats are a little cramped, but other then that is a pleasant place to see a show.
The seats are placed so close together, I am glad Im not over weight. There are no cup holders or areas to put your snack. I would advise against bringing a pocketbook to the ladiesas it gets kind of tight to keep it in your lap especially if you have a beverage. You dont want to put it on the floor! I made that mistake and my Coach bag was flooded with beer, or I hope that it was beer.
Cool place to watch shows! I used to perform here for competitions with my dance team a while back :)
We absolutely LOVE The State Theater New Jersey! This was a picture from our most recent visit. We saw The Wizard Of Oz. It was one of the best shows I have ever seen! This theater is top notch!
Great place but leg room and room between seats where really tight. Had a girl next to me that had her elbow well into my seat.
The State Theatre of New Jersey is a must visit! The size of the venue is just cozy enough for an intimate theatrical experience without feeling claustrophobic and no matter if you are in the balcony or the back row there isnt a bad seat in the house!Too many award winning shows to name take the stage to name; an eclectic mix of options for all tastes and ages. Check out the listings and you are sure to find something that appeals to your sensibilities on any budget.
Great location and easy parking. Also lots of good local restaurants.
Cute theatre. Took kids there for sesame place show and it was spacious for a small theatre.
This is a non-profit organization that puts on a variety of shows. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The facility is comfortable and the acoustics seem pretty good.
Very nice venue. Clean and historic.
Saw Star Wars: Return of the Jedi with the orchestra playing the music and it was amazing! Loved all of it.
Good venue, location, good interiors, old building, seating slightly congested. Was there for dr kaboom science show. Staff was friendly, we forgot to take print out but they checked online confirmation and gave us the tickets. Get there early so you find plenty of street parking at $3 for 2 hrs.
Sesame Street Live. Great Show!!!
Good acoustic and visibility from seats, but they are so cramped. Its not the best theatre Ive been, maybe because I am more used to national ones instead of local ones. For me it was new to be able to take snacks and beverages with me into the room. The staff is very kind, nice, and always ready to help. They do a good job.Theres no parking available, so the option is to pay in a parking lot one block away. $10 for 4 hours in my case.
I went here for the Disney Live show.... it was like Mickey & Minnies Magical Show or something like that. we brought our 3 year old daughter, she absolutely loved it, I even loved it. The special effects & audience participation was amazing! The theatre itself is not very big but its perfect for the shows that they have, I definitely want to go again soon!
Not a bad seat in the house. Reasonable prices for tickets and some interesting performances. Acoustics are absolutely phenomenal. Old art deco is cool too.
I have been coming here since I was little for all types of performances. We have enjoyed the ballet series and my parents used to get tickets for the Irish series. I have been there most recently for “Cookies and Milk” which was a great kids oriented theater performance. Tickets were $3 and it is designed to introduce your child to the theater. We had a great time!
Great theater in downtown New Brunswick. Great for family shows as well as rock shows. Plenty of parking and dining options
Beautiful old theater in the heart of New Brunswick (so have to walk to and pay for parking). Nice that food and beverages are permitted in the theater (alas no cup holders tho). Enjoyed that there were different options for alcoholic beverages and I enjoyed my frozen margarita! Chicago was wonderful production.
Always a nice place to see a show. They just need to turn the heat down a little bit.
Its a pretty nice place to see a play or a show, with a good atmosphere..
Awesome kids show. loved rainbow fish play.
Very fun to see I would love to go back and see more shows there
Megshift game show the Price Is Right! Fun..fun..fun. lots of prizes and great host Mark Walberg (no not that famous actor) host of Antiques Roadshow. Funny guy!
Love all the performances. They bring great artists. Awesome place to bring little ones to enjoy music/theather shows.
Great mix of performances throughout the year. Beautifully restored 1921 theater.
Nice small theater with good varied programming. Went for Swan Lake performed by the Russian Ballet. Theater is very easy to get to even coming from Queens, NY. Parking was super convenient in Civic Oarking Deck directly behind the theater. Cost was $10 for the event. Entry was also quick and easy with ushers to show you to your seat if needed. The ballet was good and my wife loved it. And while not a ballet lover it was interesting to watch. They have many other shows throughout the year. Ballets, concerts, plays so something for everyone. The theater is kept in good repair and they have drinks, including cocktails, along with snacks and popcorn available.
Yay we were the for Sesame Street Live- we had so much fun- seats comfortable but it does get overcrowded so if you have social anxiety best go when no one is there lol
This theater is great. Very close to the train if youre travelling from the city, and a very nice staff. A good venue to see Gladys Knight. Concession prices a bit too high, but an overall pleasant experience.
Jersey Boys! Talented actors. Superb vocals. Thank you
Beautiful restored concert hall! You can catch the NJ symphony here playing live to Star Wars!
I saw Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in concert and It was the greatest show ever!
Parking is not convenient. $8 for a small open cup of diet coke and a 16oz. water bottle is unacceptable. Theater comfortable enough.
What a perfect seating theatre
Set near public parking and a variety of restaurants and pubs, it makes for a convenient and fun night on the town!
Good show. GPS directions good but parking for theater could have been better labeled and instructions to pay for parking could be better.
Excellent quality production. Beautiful theater. Handy location
Awesome quality shows for a Great Value! Love coming here instead of Broadway!
Theatre gets a 4 because it was really tight seating. Guy next to you was on top of your arms. Show on the other hand was a 10! Joe Bonamassa amazing rock/blues guitarist with a top notch band! Seats not worth the money but show itself definitely was!! Hi
They have great concerts & tonight its Carol Burnett. I am soooooo excited
A nice theater with a rich history. It has limited disabled access.
Had a great time at the Keith Sweat concert. The view from the balcony was awesome.
This is a terrific venue in central NJ. Been here many times for concerts, ballet and theater. Enjoy the historic charm and friendly staff. Good concessions and reasonably priced cocktails.
Theater is beautiful. No matter where you sit its always a great experience whether it be a concert, play or musical. Extremely clean and well maintained. Staff are helpful. Also, lots of great restaurants within walking distance. Hoping Glen Burtnik has a show in 2019. The BEST Beatles show ever!
Beautiful theatre. Have seen several wonderful performances here.
Great renovated theater with good acoustics. Good variety of performances by nationally known acts. Recently, I saw a performance of Swan Lake by the Russian National Ballet Company and it was exceptional.
Yesterday, I went to see RENT and it was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately the show has nothing to do with the rating of the theater LOL.The theater had really good sound quality and lighting. The workers were very polite, helpful, and quick (at the bar). There were no ridiculously long lines to get into the theater. Im giving the theater 3 stars because of its appearance. It needs to be renovated. The theater walls look old and dingy. Also, the seating isnt optimal. While trying to look at the stage, I was continuously trying to look around the persons head that was in front of me. The seats need to be staggered.
Do bring the whole family.Joseph had a new spin, this show I have seen before. Never like this.
Wonderful venue. The stage is visible from every seat and they were very comfortable. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I didnt buy concessions so I cant speak to prices but I had a wonderful time.
It is great to be able to see Broadway shows without having to take a train into the city.
Great place, better than going to new york.
Awesome sound system! Saw The Color Purple!
Saw a great Joe Jackson concert. The sound was really good. The seats are quite narrow. The prices are way too high. Youre not Broadway...get real.
Love to attend events here. Even the balcony has great view and acoustics. They offer a wide variety of programs so there is something for everyone
Great show and great seats. Need a lil more AC, but otherwise awesome
Beautiful old theatre in the heart of New Brunswick. Very good place to see a show because it is not too big and most seats are great seats.
Beautiful theater! Helpful staff and clean bathrooms
