It is the backyard to my backyard. my backyard being the Sabine national forest. The pictures I took mainly Crossing over the bridge Sam Rayburn lake on she 103 east of Lufkin TX. It is a good lake for water sports Fishing, boating, skiing, Jet skis, & My favorite swimming. As far as scuba diving I guess depending on what part of the lake it my be OK. When you compare it to other East Texas lakes I would Not expect more than 10 feet of Visibility at 20 deep on the best days even less 30 or deeper. As far as I know it is mostly a sandy bottom covered with vegetation and tall grass in someplaces.

I started hunting here this past season, there is plenty access and the roads are decent even with the weather not letting up and everything else super wet. Just need to spend a little more time in the off season scouting around. There are plenty of other hunters but this is not over pressured.

I love this area, I have been enjoying this forest with my family for 60 years. I have a small place close to Powell park a great place for the family to enjoy the out doors, it is perfect for the old style tent campers are for the beginners who luke all the comforts of home. I want to share this with you, Saturday afternoon my wife and I was riding the back roads, just enjoying conversation and seeing some new country. Then right in front of the truck a, what I thought was a coyote ran across the road about 40 yards in front of us and my wife said that is a big German Shepard. It stopped on the side of the road for a split second and then I realized what I was looking at was not a coyote but a wolf, it was large, it is only the third one I have ever seen in the wild. It was a great experiance.

Feds have made it impossible for the elderly hunters to haul a deers body out of the woods. Suggest calling Game Warden for help with dragging game out every time might get the law changed. As for now youre not allowed to use a cart or wheelbarrow. None of the native fruit and nut trees exist anywhere, only pine trees for selling. What happened to Roosevelt s pledge to keep them in their original and pristine state?

Review №71

Talk about bad experience. Never again will I go to Caney Creek. The national Forest people are terrible and think they are the rulers of the earth. They sit and wait for all the fisherman for the big splash tourny to get on the lake and start writing tickets for parking. They all payed their fees for the launch. This is the only time if the year that the parks are full. The park people could have been there at 330 in the morning and coordinate the parking and avoided the 60 something to keys they gave. Because I had a motor home they got me for camping. 105. There is nothing there to say no camping. I will advise every one not to go to this park. Even though you pay for this park it is not kept up and there is only terrible people running it. Beware.

We launch our boat at Hanks Creek. This is a very nice place to launch your boat with 2 ramps available and has a floating dock. Coming in you will see a information area where you are required to fill out a envelope and a slip to hang visible in your windshield. Include your $5 fee in envelope and place in drop box. So make sure you bring a pen!You dont have to just come here to launch a boat there is a swimming area. This is a nice place to come and enjoy the lake.
