What a great place! Its small and doesnt seem to be on any popularity lists and I have no idea why. If you like any kind of art, this is well worth a stop. They change out exhibits every 3 months so it may not be the same thing we saw, but the exhibits we did see were top quality. One was a water color artist that blew me away. Such realism with water color. We toured all 4 exhibits in just a couple of hours and there is no charge, but donations are appreciated. We gladly donated.
Wonderful small museum. Great break from the rush of Myrtle Beach. Beautiful exhibits from regional artists. We are going to include it on our MB itinerary from now on.
Went for the ocean plastics installation. Definitely some serious misinformation being spread through the gallery. No scientific sources or evidence based claims to be seen.We need to be concerned with fishing, not plastic straws in the ocean.A survey by scientists with Ocean Cleanup, an organization working to develop technologies to reduce ocean plastic, found that at least 46 percent of the plastic in the “Great Pacific garbage patch,” a floating gyre the size of France made up of plastic, comes from fishing nets. It’s worth noting that miscellaneous discarded fishing gear makes up the majority of the rest.World Animal Protection reports that 640,000 tons of gear are lost and pollute oceans each year. But this abandoned fishing gear goes well beyond pollution. “Ghost nets,” for example, are a danger to marine habitats and sea life. In 2016 there were 71 reported cases of whales caught in abandoned fishing gear off the U.S. Pacific coast. While ditching plastic straws may make you feel good inside, the BEST thing we can do to help marine life and the planet is to leave fish off our plates and switch to a compassionate vegan diet.Overall, the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly.
Very nice art museum in downtown Myrtle Beach displays rotating local artists’ works as well as a permanent collection. Recent exhibits focused on women artists and Gullah artwork. A museum store provides ample opportunity to purchase souvenirs and support this free museum. Periodic weekend events sponsored within include topics like ‘make a face mask’, ‘watercolor fabric’, ‘mood painting’ and’ ‘silhouette making’. Great find!
Beautiful art! I miss the tea room that would have made it a 5 star
This is a small but very good art gallery. We found the gallery to be well laid out. This gallery was one of the most welcoming we have been at. We have traveled all over and have not found one, free or otherwise, to be this welcoming. The gallery has a small sun porch area where they provide free tea and cookies, while they last. They ask for donations to help out with maintenance and upkeep. The exhibition was for three artists. We really enjoyed the artwork of Sara Golish from Toronto, Canada. One of the exhibits was very powerful about empowering women. The second floor was closed as a new exhibit was being setup. Well worth the visit.
Very nice! A good place to chill and enjoy local art.
I love the art space here! Definitely glad we came to this museum. The ladies at the desk were more than inviting, very helpful, and had great energy. We took part in some delicious tea, cookies, and coloring and got featured on their FB page. We got some greatly priced handmade jewelry that we wore out, so if you can appreciate attention to detail, I recommend visiting their gift shop. They have some art classes, so if youre local, take a gander at what they offer. Great place to go for inspiration and some history on South Carolina.
Beautiful & poignant art exhibit! Womens art commemorating this 100 year anniversary of women finally being granted their right to vote is commendable!
Small but very nice art museum.. kid friendly and free admission
Beautiful artwork.. my son loved it
Visited with my kiddos and loved the museum. The artwork was amazing and each installation drew you in, inviting you to stop and actually breathe it in. So many paintings were my favorite but the quilt and the surrounding exhibit by Carolynne Miller was by far the best. It was beautiful and informative. The stories it detailed made me want to research it more. The quilt gave life to ppl I would never meet and an area that was being lost. It really is a must see!
Nice place, good greeting and overview at the door. The theme this quarter seemed to be women’s art. Our 6 yr old and 8 yr old are entertained enough. Have coloring sheets at tables in one section which is great for kids. Small gift shop, looks like paid kids activities and adult workshops throughout the week.
Nice big gallery! Even had snacks! Very close to the coast and a good view from the top!
We were able to visit this Myrtle Beach Art Museum when they featured the The Art of the Brick exhibit, very cool! And we were met with a friendly staff. Add this to your next Myrtle Beach vacation!
Beautiful art made from mans discards. Humanity should be so ashamed of ruining our environment for the present and future generations. If we dont do something right now to correct this mess God help us.
Went while the galleries on ocean pollution and Emily Weston were on display. Absolutely phenomenal setup. Its a smaller place, too, so we had a very warm and personable reception. We just stayed for the galleries, but I would also recommend checking their website as they offer a lot more as well! And, if youre on a budget, dont worry - its free to walk on in and take a look. Magnificent place full of breathtaking art. I cant believe it wasnt swarming when we got there.
A great place to relax, enjoy the tea room and take in some great pieces of art.
We never have been to an art museum but it was super cool and something different to do
Wonderful little art museum that showcases some great regional talent. Its a nice break from the kitschy fare in Myrtle Beach. Definitely worth a visit.
Small local museum that features interesting local artist. Changes exhibits so its always interesting. The architecture alone of the building is beautiful and worth the visit. Used to be a summer residence and theyve repurposed it wonderfully. They have affordable classes and lectures to enjoy. Also a small gift shop to browse. Last time we were there it was by donation. Put this on your rainy day list.
Second summer of taking kids from a daycare here for a field trip. Our kids enjoy it so much and love coming here! Staff are excellent at what they do and are patient with kids!!! 2019 Summer of What Do You Sea kids hot to tour and then use recycled plastic items to make their own art.
Called for some information on the ceramic classes... the lady I spoke with soooooo helpful. She went above and beyond to help and accommodate me. Customer service, 10/10 points!
I love this art museum. We visit each time while we are on vacation. Every exhibit is so unique and tells a story. Nice little gift shop. Very friendly staff. We took the kids to a suncatcher program and each one made a suncatcher to bring home. The program director was very friendly and you can tell she enjoys art and her livelihood. This charming little gem is worth the visit. No admission charge but they do take donations.
Me and my boyfriend had a great time here! The front desk ladies were so kind and helpful. The artwork/pieces that were featured were great. I also really liked that they had art studios, classes and also an area for artists to come in to work and be inspired. There was plenty to see and its so amazing that this place is completely run off of donations. 10/10 would recommend.
We look for nice places to view art and get a feel for a community. Great spot.
Great experience. Exhibits change every 3 months. No cost, donation encouraged. Well adapted historic house with knowledgeable friendly employees, easy access, shaded parking, fascinating exhibits, things to engage some kids, and small interesting gift shop. A good quiet cool intellectually stimulating 2 hours. I would visit every summer.
Nice little art museum. Well laid out. Friendly staff
Awesome free museum! I would highly recommend going. Summer 2019 they had art made out of things from the ocean and the beach - such a creative way to reuse items. Free Parking - air conditioning and lovely staff.
We had a tour with the schools youth educator (Devann) and I was so impressed with her knowledge of the museums pieces
Beautiful and unique exhibits and informative staff
Great new exhibits
For a small regional art museum I feel that this museum is excellent. I was especially impressed by the work of the high school students. In my opinion as a husband of a painter I thought that the quality of the work was quite good for young people. Their written descriptions were profound . They described what they were trying to accomplish and what they were feeling when they were composing the workI feel that credit should be given to their teachers at the museum.John P Kohler, MD.
My fav artist was sarah golish
Beautiful Art Gallery with highlights from local artists.
Three good exhibits with one of them highlighting the womans movement of one hundred years ago.
It was a very enjoyable visit. The ladies working there were very informative especially the lady in the gift shop.
Amazing ambiance, great art exhibits and wonderful taste of art collections. Helping support art as well as the coastal community
Always love stopping in the museum. Exhibits change every 3 months, so you can see something new most of the time.
Very cool exhibits. Takes a short time to stroll through the art displays. Very knowledgeable staff.
Loved the The Power of She theme and the beautiful art showcased.
Nice place, lots of interesting stuff. Good place to visit with the family
Great creative display of recycling plastic into 3d art...amazing ! Also bringing awareness to all the plastic in the oceans.Im with them...Recycle,dont pollute our oceans, beaches or any of our planet.
Excellent museum, very impressed. Knowledgeable staff, helpful and enthusiastic. The detail of the buildings themselves, the curated exhibits, make it well worth a visit. Be sure to check out the gift shop, as well as the refreshments available for purchase. I look forward to returning when I am in the area again! Well done!
Fun place to go to when its raining..better than put put..lol
My nieces and I enjoyed the plastic artifacts exhibit. The ladies that work up front there were very knowledgeable and sweet.
This museum is gorgeous. Its one of the few museums in the country with an ocean view. Their permanent pieces contain artist from the Carolinas. My family and I enjoyed this gem.

This is a great museum with a nice amount of interactive experiences. The Drew Brophy exhibit was very cool. I would definitely come again.
Really enjoyed the local artist show. Learned some local history too.
I love local museums displaying the work of local artists. Whether you live in South Carolina or are just visiting, this gallery will give you a great perspective of the area. Its easy to visit, go and at least take a look!

They r always great, & soooo interesting !!!
Beautiful setting by the beach; featured artists were so talented.
If you are new to Myrtle Beach I honestly suggest that you go to this place, it is free and they only run off of donations and I think $5 or $10 is perfect and if you want to give more then thats cool too. My mother and I went here during one of their secondary School exhibits. The students artwork were so beautiful very detailed and super high level in my opinion. The location of this Gallery overlooks the sea. This place took my breath away.
Amazing local museum. Always bringing in great local artists, has a great education center and helpful guides!
Wonderful exhibits, great staff, lovely gift shop in beautiful setting.
So much to see. Always new exhibits

The staff was friendly and the exhibits were amazing. I really enjoyed the exhibit with the local artist that was running when my family visited. There were kids activities such as a scavenger hunt through the museum and some crafts. Definitely worth a stop!
Loved the Cant You Sea displays. Very beautiful.
Free to the public! Small two leveled building with two exhibits currently- surfing, swimming, water theme. Staff was friendly and engaging. It is something to do if youre in Myrtle Beach and need something to fill time.
Never had been to the Museum. Enjoyed the local artists and their work. Nice little break area with cookies and drink
Beautiful oceanfront museum offering changing exhibits! Love opportunity to to meet artists!
Beautiful little meseum... My son loves art so we brought him him and he really enjoyed it.
Exhibit on pollution of ocean was eye opening and very I informative
I loved the layout of the building. It allowed for each piece of art to have its own focus without distraction, but there was plenty to see with every turn.
Beautiful artworks and changed regularly.
This small art museum is free, $5 donation requested. We stopped in and it gave us a better understanding of local culture of the Myrtle Beach area. Be sure to not miss the small tv with a short cartoon history of a local hotel that became a hot spot for early rock and roll. Part of the Chitlin Circuit. Staff were very friendly.
Must see. Will re-learn. New outlook on plastics & irresponsible tossed trash.
Lovely old Summer Cottage with interesting local art. Cookies & ice tea are available for purchase on the porch.
Caught several exhibits before their final day. Sherry Martins watercolors and mixed media were so full of depth, color, light and shadow. Seeing her Roots exhibit was a great opportunity for us.
Great local museum. So glad we stumbled upon it. People working were friendly and inviting.
The exhibits are beautiful, unusual and thought-provoking...and free to view!
One of the top activities on our familys Myrtle Beach vacation list was a visit to this museum. The staff members are all warm and delightfully passionate about their artistic offerings. The historic Springmaid House, residence to the museum, adds to the overall enriching visual experience. The newest display, Celia Persons art, not only exhibits great talent and skill but evokes in the viewer, a desire for a deeper experience with the mysterious cultures from her travels. How valuable to be transported to remote locations visually and enjoy the emotional experience of ancient places filled with spiritual echoes.
Just something to do out if the norm...the art work was amazing
Really nice rotating galleries and themes. The addition of the pottery sculpting and wheel area downstairs is fantastic.Absolutely wonderful summer camps for kids.
The staff was friendly, free admission, the exhibits were really nice and informative. I also enjoyed the sitting area with a beach view. I love that they offer watercolor class, and pottery. I am definitely interested in going back and trying them out.
Friendly staff and diverse art displays made this a very nice outing. We were looking for something to do before going to lunch, and this was lovely.
I love this art museum on the south end of Myrtle Beach. They have a Rembrandt sketch on display until December 2017. There is no cost, although they do have a donation box. The staff is always helpful and friendly. If you dont want to walk up the stairs, there is an elevator you can use.
Loved the Sara Gilish display
Wonderful place to view some terrific art.
