The Iris Garden is wonderful & the best part dog friendly !! They ask for a donation when you first walk in which is sweet, can’t have all of this beauty for free So many beautiful bloomed flowers everywhere you turn! It’s decor is also very cute with bridges & benches nicely spread out. All the iris flowers have their name tags on it which is cool because you can see all the variety of kinds there actually are. Once you walk up higher there’s a nice grass field for sitting in the sun and relaxing. Bathrooms on site against far area of the garden. Definitely a cool spot to check out in the spring!!! Spent about 30-45 minutes here and it was wonderful!
Nice garden, you can take good pictures or you can picnic there. But not so big. Because of corona butterfly garden is close
Went there on sunday good place for kids to play, refreashing, nice area recommed others.
Stunning diversity in the iris varieties. This was a truly enlightening experience, although the rain this season has been unkind to some of the plants. This property is a beautiful open space to be grateful for in this dense suburban area. I try to not envy those who live within a short walk of this spectacular place. I hope to return soon to catch the late bloomers.
Beautiful, spacious. Two rows of iris beds run for hundreds of yards. May 24, 2020 some flowers are blooming but the best is yet to come.
My 101 year old grandmother first introduced my sister and I to the Iris Garden in Montclair where we grew up. It is a lovely place to visit and we have annually made the ride every May to see them. The gardens are not as large as it use to be thanks to some spoiled rotten vandals who destroyed many rare specimens of Iris about ten years ago or more. Thanks to donations from private gardeners some were replaced. In this last visit some were in bloom but more will be as the weather warms. Bring a blanket or a chair on a good weather day to sit in the open lawn above the garden to enjoy the blooms, people watch, Catch a glimpse of the NYC skyline on a clear day if you have time. Parking is sparse because there are tennis courts and the town pool across the street. Mostly street parking only. There us a tour home about the Iris Gardens and I believe tubers for sale. There is a fee to tour the home but not the gardens. There is a annual event in May. Enjoy because once the blooms are done you will have to wait until next spring to see full bloom which depends on the weather. Bloom time can start as early as late April until mid to late June.
Irises are my favorite flower so I love to visit these gardens every few years during bloom season. Ever see tiny miniature iris? Giant bearded iris? Irises in almost every color known and previously unknown to horticulture? It is all here. Bring a camera, hat and sunscreen and indulge in a few hours of sublime beauty. The town is fun to explore as well. Beautiful garden, the largest iris garden in the country. Beautiful grounds. Check out all the estates along the way with massive front lawns. Run by volunteers so make sure you put some money in the donation jar when you enter. Check the schedule for music in the summer evenings
Love these iris, they date back to 1800, they are marked, lovely park setting, a few benches and very little shade, also has a small gift shop, great place for taking photos or painting art, donations requested
Its beautiful
Drove past today by chance and immediately made a u-turn so I could check it out! I cannot believe such a beautiful place is just a 20 minute drive from me and I had never been before. There were rows and rows of towering irises in colors I had never seen before- peach, burgundy, scarlet, periwinkle, wine, indigo. Very clear to see how the garden came to be called The Rainbow on the Hill.
Irises at peak today, May 30. Gorgeous.
Beautiful oasis in Montclair. Come around Mothers day and the flowers will be in full bloom.
I came just right time! There are so many different iris Ive never seen before. The garden isnt big but I really enjoyed. There is a donation box near by the entrance.
Always a total joy. Today, crowded but everyone was doing very well with social distancing and most wore masks throughout. Thanks to the volunteers who maintain the Gardens!!
Beautiful place to relaxing
If you love Iris Please visit Presby when the Iris are in bloom. You should plan on at least an hour of strolling through the beautiful grounds at Presby.. Purchase some of their bagged Iris for planting at your house.
Nice place, good environment. Just to be relax and watch the gorgeous flowers!
The irises at Presby are absolutely stunning. There are many antique bulbs here. The garden is meticulously kept. Too bad irises only bloom for a short time.
Beautiful flowers, they do charge to get in.
The gardens are lovely and the grounds are spacious. Spent an hour wandering the irises and then gathered with friends on the lawn.
Great place! Classic style. A truly tranquil place.
Wonderful place for those that love nature, flowers and a good time in the open!!!
Never disappoints. Beautiful. Many thanks to all the volunteers who keep it running.
Best time of year to visit is mid to late May when the Iris are in bloom. Suggested donation at the entrance. Dogs are permitted so pack a picnic basket and find a shady spot under a tree to soak up the beautiful surroundings.
Very well kept and amazing blooms.
Beautiful, we visited late may at peak.
Fascinating collection of Iriss. Every color you could imagine. It is a nice short walk through the rows of flowers. We have visited for several years now and it seems to keep getting better. Great photo opportunities if so inclined. Ample street parking.
What a beautiful place!!
It was nice and had a pleasant walk. Though I drove 30 mines to get here, I dont think it was worth a long trip. More for local residents.
A special place. Especially in May
Gorgeous in May! Watch for July bulb sale for home planting - amazing specimens that are use to NJ climate
Lovely garden to walk around. right now most of it isnt in full bloom but there are still some around to make it worthwhile to walk around if youre local.
Cant wait to go back next Spring!
Such a beautiful place. I really enjoy walking around and observing all the different flowers and plants. It is quite relaxing, I recommend this place to everyone.
This place is so special
Too early in the sewson. Blooms just started. Best time enr of May.
This is a nice park to visit when the tulips and flowers are in bloom. We also visited at Halloween and got to view the pumpkin gallery on display. there is probably more than 100 pumpkins there almost all lit up ( heres a tip to those that put pumpkins up . Next time use a key light or battery operated candle inside as the some of the ones with candles had blown out.)One problem with this park is there is only street parking both below and above the park. And if you go during an event, such as we did, you have to park quite a bit away if you dont get there early. The only restrooms here are porta pottys also.
If you love gardens or irises or peonies, this place is amazing. It is an old rich guys house and property who passed away and willed his property to the local town. They are known for their Irises, which are amazing, but they also have an incredible group of peonies by the front door. Great place to just walk around and take time to smell the roses.
Its an okay place, some landscaping would be a nice addition. Its just rows of Iriss that takes about 15minutes to complete the tour unless youre taking pictures which seems to be pretty popular. I probably wont be going back anytime soon.
Around Mothers day, this is THE place to visit. THOUSANDS of irises. If you go the week before Mothers day thats ok because the early irises will be in bloom. And if you go the week after, that works too because the late blooming irises will be in full bloom. There are benches to it on or better yet bring a blanket and a picnic basket and have lunch on the grass overlook more colors that a fresh box of crayons! There are restrooms across the street by the tennis courts. You can park on the street but it could be a long walk because Presby is so popular during the 3 or so weeks of eek iris bloom particularly on the weekend.Check out their web site because they have music and other events for the family during iris blooming season on the wee
I expected this place to be huge, but I was surprised it was rather small. It is a cute quick visit, but not really something to plan a whole trip around/ plan a day out with. Very pretty flowers though & it does make for nice close up photography.
Nothing to see right now since it is off season. But Iriss are beautiful when they do bloom. There are many varieties there.
Tranquil walk along the beautiful garden
This is such a peaceful & tranquil place.
Very nice if you like to look at flowers
Very nice irises. A meadow off color.
Beautiful place, the only problem is parking.
Huge assortment of irises.
Wonderful experience when in bloom
Worth the trip!
Clean, beautiful
Lovely grounds!
Fantastic collection of iris and peony.
A wonderful mix of local historic location and unique garden. Delightful and worth a visit.
Today May 19 is a little too soon. About five more days and it should be at peek.
Spectacular iris garden, very special, worth a trip. There is surely nothing like it anywhere in the area. Mid - May to early June is the season for full bloom.
Greatiris garden .Perhaps o ne of yhe best i. The country Not Handicapped accessible
Beautiful.
Its a nice short outing when the irises are in bloom, they ask for donations at the entrance
So over rated. I live two blocks away for 25+ years and maybe 3 times they all bloomed at once. Otherwise, 51 weeks of the year its leaves and stems. They should supplement the irises with other seasonal flowers so theyll have something in bloom for several months a year instead of several days. A lot of hoo-ha for very little return.
The gardens are beautiful and the people there are very knowledgeable.
Went for the annual plant sale by Rutgers...got some good stuff
Always a great place to see flowers and enjoy nature.
It is beautiful here in the twilight! Hate the big wrought iron fence, though..
Not as overwhelming as the tulip farm or sunflowers, but certainly a delight.
Very small. You can’t walk stroller here bc there is no path. It is not worth 30 mins drive.
Very nice flowers!
Lovely people the volunteers fantastic staff very knowledgeable would do it again! Friendly atmosphere!!
I wish that I lived closer. The irises are gorgeous and its a relaxing atmosphere.
It is beautiful all year long. The flowers are just stunning.
I missed the flowers by a few weeks.
Can be a nice peaceful oasis, a lot depends on if the playgrounds and atlethic fields across the road are full or not.
I cant waite to come here in May and all those beautiful irises.
Love this place - try to go every year - so many breathtaking colored bearded irises
Unique and special.
Best time to go is in May and early June when the gardens are in full bloom.
Beautiful gardens, easy 1hr visit, donations accepted
Nice place for a short walk. Not much to do here or interesting place to walk to.
A must-visit place for any serious gardener, especially if you love irises. This is the pre-eminent garden in the United States for the preservation and display of antique, or historic bearded iris varieties.Easily accessible during the week on New Jersey Transit rail - the gardens are a block away from the Mountain Avenue station of the Montclair-Boonton Line with one-seat service to/from NY Penn Station.
Cool
Beautiful
No Irises yet, they had a lovely plant sale!
Beautiful flowers, but Porta potties were gross.
The beautiful place to visit especially in the spring
One of the worlds most dazzling displays of irises
Best iris collection in the world.
A unique and beautiful fixture in Montclair.
Beautiful Iris garden. Peak blossoms late May.
Bring a blanket and enjoy the lawn.
Mid October there are no Irises in bloom so nothing to see.
Love the flowers
Beautiful
Always love my visits here! Check the bloom schedule before going
