Although closed they do have some exhibits and a beautiful trail.
Wonderful place to check out while youre in the area! Besides being an important conservation group, the RMEF has a great visitor center that anyone can enjoy. They routinely have events for kids and families, which are always highly organized and professional. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the facilities are always clean and beautiful.Besides visiting, Id also encourage you to look at becoming a member.
Trail was nice. The actual building was shut down.
It was a very nice trail with a great little stream running through it. Only thing I did not really like was limited access due to the private property around the trail.
This place is phenomenal! Located right here in beautiful Missoula Montana. It is certainly worth a trip just to check out the history and heritage. You can also see some of the largest elk ever taken with rifle and a bow. What they do for conservation and what they continue to do for elk and public lands is well above par. You should really consider a membership if you enjoy recreating outdoors and or hunting our public lands. Without them I would hate to see what the future of elk and their habitat might look like. I will continue to support them in all they do and will hopefully be able to afford a lifetime membership someday. Thanks for everything!!
The best big game nonprofit organizations in the country. Does more for land and habitat than any other group.
This place is a family favorite. Very nice displays and interactive exhibits. Some of the largest elk mounts I’ve ever seen. Interesting for all ages.
This is a great little stop in Missoula. I suspect it is under visited because it is tucked away in the north side of I90. If you are into wildlife, preservation or hunting it is a worthwhile stop. They have really nice collection of large animals and an exhibit where kids can touch feel different animal hides, feel the weight of antlers and hear many of the sounds associated with elk. They have a cool animated map the shows how the different elk herds migrate, taken from real tracking data. They also explain how hunting is used to help manage herds and keep the population from growing out of control. They have several videos targeted to different ages. There is a nice path through the woods outside. Signs along the path explain how the different plants and environs support elk in the wild. Overall in interesting little stop. My kids enjoyed it and would probably visit again if we had a little more time, especially for the outdoor hike.
Great interactive displays. Never thought I would hear Elk call inside a museum or watch the various herds migrate through Yellowstone. This museum should be required before Yellowstone for anyone interested in the Yellowstone wildlifeSeeing the full size mounts with a message of conservation was outstanding. This museum is great. We were warmly greeted by the receptionist.
Beautiful building. Lots of taxidermy - wasnt expecting that.A very informative museum/education center focusing on the various efforts to maintain a healthy elk population in the local geographical area and beyond.
Donation Only! What an amazing stop to learn so much about Montanas wildlife.Love the taxidermy
Very nice, well taken care off. I really appreciate that you go there and look around or buy something and they do not nag you to give money, several other organizations we visited continue to ask for more money.Very good location and plenty of room for a camper. Wonder if they have considered building a little bit of a playground ?
The visitors center is neat. Its a great place to show your little ones what real animals look like
Great place for an educational and fun trip for the whole family. The museum inside is very informative and hands-on, plus outside there is a short hiking trail with informational boards all around. I love bringing my daughter here.
As a hunter this is like Disneyland for me. For those not from the west this is a great educational experience. Not a lengthy visit and even has a brief nature interpretive trail. Good place for kids, too.
We enjoyed the museum part and all the information on elk and other wildlife. Met some very nice people who were visiting.
Enjoyed all the exhibits. Lots of information....even a gift shop.
It was ok. Im a Rmef member. Beautiful place inside. Some nice mounts of elk and other native wildlife. There is a shop inside where you can buy a lot of the Rmef products that you see in their magazine, Bugle. For an elk hunter it was ok, just nothing spectacular. Its the main office for protecting and gaining access to public lands and habitat of which they are the leader. Hats off to them.
I liked it alot but I wish it had more to its self guided walk through tour. Finding the entrance was a tad difficult for a first timer but not terrible
If you havent been recently...they updated their facility with some new exhibits! If you have never been...stop by for a free, educational experience learning about one of the Rocky Mountains greatest resources: elk! They have a great selection of activities and friendly staff. Large groups would probably call ahead for a tour!
Highly recommend stopping in. Its so interesting and a beautiful building. They have lots of awesome taxidermy on display.
Yeah Im from Texas and just got to see the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation for the first time in Missoula and this beautiful lady named Morgan was really helpful and guided me through and just one what a great experience
Outstanding educational opportunity for kids. If you are passing by Missoula this right off the highway. Free, donations welcome, with cool learning opportunities, clean bathrooms and a nice film area. Grant creek trail is right there to stop, walk and stretch. If you are going to pull off in Missoula stop here, its the better of the three exits.
It was interesting and informative, completely different, clean, and awesome of Elk, and so many other fascinating displays. The store was nice, and the entire museum ( if you will) was so clean and modern. Just a beautiful place, that you HAVE to go see... in Missoula
Such a warm and inviting place. Great for all ages:)
Its a great place to see the majestic elk. Stop every time we are in Missoula.
Very informative and great time with my kids there.
A very impressive display of Montana wildlife.
Always a great spot to go learn about nature and see some of the record elk .
Coolest place in town. Great walking trail, fun building, good way to kill a few minutes.
Loved the statue outside and all the mounted animals inside. We stopped and went through the whole place and loved it. We also walked the property and it was beautiful. Was an awesome place. Very informational and beautiful. I would love to go back again!
Visitor center located along Creek and bike pedestrian trail, near interstate, easy access, good informational rest stop
Come and see very well done on the preservation of Elk herds here in the US and Canada....
Cool place. The trail nearby is great too. Definitely stop by if you want a break
Very nice 0lace to spend some time at
The current National Geographic exhibit (April 2109) is worth seeing, incorporating scientific research and the visual arts to explain the importance of elk in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Ive visited before, and like that exhibits and films change out, so its worth coming back on my occasional trips to Missoula.
Beautifully done trail. Cant wait to take my bike farther up. Didnt get to go inside
Fantastic-now I understnd my husbands enjoyment of the hunting elk experience
Really cool facility whether you hunt elk or not! Very informative and kid friendly!
Very cool animals and displays. Knowledgeable people. Kids loved the gift shop selection.
So much beauty, and the grandsons had a blast!
Youll learn all you need to know about the local wildlife at RMEF. Plenty of informative activities and videos to tell you their stories.
Thanks for spending time with us! Your showroom is awesome!
Loved it. From WI where we have support from you when reintroducing elk in Cable Wi. Thanks
Montanas finest set of record elk racks.
Beautiful facility open to the public. Very educational.
Great place to learn about protecting lands and wildlife for the future generations.
Such an awesome place. It tells about the wildlife in Montana very well. A must visit.
Very nice and educational
Awesome. Fun for all ages. Educational. Super friendly and very accommodating. I could of spent hours more here but unfortunately was rushed to get back on the road. Will be back on the next trip and will continue to be amazed at all the information and cool things to see.
Great conservation organization that does awesome work for the hunting community.
Good information about conservation. I wouldnt drive out of my way to visit.
Great Organization. Lots of education and things for kids to do and learn
Beautiful elk statue outside, many amazing stuffed critters inside, a movie room that always has something educational going. The atmosphere is great, quiet, museum-like. Their bathrooms are even amazing and they have a wonderful trail to walk that starts at the side of the building. You always see some wildlife when walking it. Wild turkeys and deer mostly.
Had a great time. Great place to go
Great museum/learning center. Kids get special swag! Must visit!
Very cool Montana based non profit. Very interesting for the kids, plus its FREE entrance!
Beautiful animals and information and free to see all the stuffed animals they had.
Fascinating place. They have more elk mounts than youve ever dreamed of in one place. Not only elk mounts, but most of the other large animals that live in the Rocky Mountains. Mentioned in the novel, Aikido Anaconda, it opens a whole new world to those not born to the mountains. You could bring the whole family here and spend an hour or two just browsing amongst all of the different displays. Nice gift shop, with lots of different sweatshirts, hats, other knick-knacks. Definitely worth a stop if youre in the Missoula area.
Wonderful displays with plenty of interesting information.
One of my favorite animals to hunt and eat etc..
Awesome place. You can learn a lot about the history of the elk
Everytime I go they knocknit out of the park. They have amazing kids activities and field days. They are dedicated to wildlife conservation and their work has helped keep Montanas lands open and safe. They work with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks and host hunters education classes. My kids just finished their course there and it was awesome to get to take the class on such a wonderful facility!!
Well - awesome describes this location, complete with record elk from several states including Washington, Montana, Oregon, etc. Very educational about how we hunters have saved many species from extinction with the taxes we pay for our products we purchased. If you are in that area - Missoula Montana - you need to put this on your to do list.
Fantastic conservation information along with outstanding taxidermy and sculptures.
Always a great place to visit
Its a great place to go for all ages
Great displaysLearned a bunch and bought great gifts
This is a MUST GO TO place when you visit the Missoula Montana area. You get to see some real Boone & Crockett head mounts of some great trophy elk and you can see a mountain lion, beaver, skunk, birds of prey, beaver, dear, moose and on and on. Yes they are stuffed (taxidermy head mounts) but you get to see them up close and personal. Great gift shop, great employees and theres a free theater where they show nature shows and hunting techniques. For someone who isnt able to get up close and personal its a great place.
Impessive wildlife displayď
Beautiful and very informational. Friendly staff
Great place to learn!
Awesome place. If traveling through it is totally worth stopping by.
Truly an amazing place!! If youre at all into hunting definitely stop in if youre anywhere in the area!! And even if youre not into hunting it would be interesting to....they have lots of mounts and interesting facts about elk....plus they have a movie that shows you what RMEF does and gives you a little taste of hunting!
Very nice, small but it is free and the kids can see many different creatures
Outstanding facility and friendly staff. My daughter recently completed Hunters Safety at the Elk Foundation and thoroughly enjoyed it! Thanks so much for all you do!
If you are driving through Missoula you should definitely stop and educate yourself on the elk population in North America. Excellent conservation group.
A must see stop while youre in Missoula!
Awesome place to stop in and visit. If you have not been there....GO!
Great visit that is only about an hour. Learned a great deal about how elk almost had the same demise of the American Bison. Very visually engaging.
Outstanding facility very informative and rewarding to the preservation of our wildlife and sustaining resources. Bravo Bravo Bravo!!
Thank you for your contributions in protecting habitat for elk and other wildlife
Really nice way to spend a couple of hours. Interactive activities inside and a short stroller friendly trail walk outside where we saw four deer prancing around.
Great place to visit.
