Gorgeous area with several meandering trails of varying difficulty, the main trail being fairly flat and good for calm walks with a view of the creek which runs parallel.
Beautiful area! There are tons of different trails of all difficulties. Main trail was nice and wide, with a gradual easy slope for casual hikers. There are many other trails to offer a bit of a challenge. Im from out of town, recommend going earlier in the morning if you want to avoid crowds. Parking lot was pretty empty at 8 am, and overflowing by the time I was done around noon.
Gorgeous area! Bit steep and a lot of bicyclists on the paths, but wonderful views and a good challenge in some areas for novice to beginning intermediate hikers.
Best trails for hiking and biking!! Tons of variety, well maintained.
Trees. Sun. Not too crowded.
A local delight. Wide trails filled with families and bicycles. Trails are flat and in the open sun. Bring water and snacks. Didnt see any wildlife. Parking plentiful. 2 toilets available at the entrance and at about a mile in.
Beginning of tell is right along the road, we didnt love that. Still beautiful.
Great place to ride
Beautiful, popular little area. Nice access to many trail-heads Just watch out for others on the multi-use trail and for dogs that may be off-leash.
Our trail seemed to be used more by bikes
This trailhead has a very large parking lot and bathrooms. The first couple of miles are wide and flat with gentle inclines. The trail meanders with the river and has several good swimming spots. Great trail for kids and novice hikers, with more challenging sections splitting off from the main trail.
Had a visit and a little time to kill. This place is a great place to take a walk and visit mother nature. Quiet a few people cross country skiing. Lots of dog walkers very friendly and beautiful to boot. Can only imagine it in the summer. One of the few open year round.
Such a nice place!!! Its amazing and bueatiful to visit!
Always a great escape into the wilderness. Whether sauntering, biking, foraging or taking the doggo for a walk
Local favorite
Beautiful and great clean trail for families and dogs on leash
Really love this trail and how it changes through the seasons. Very versatile, on any given day you will find hikers, bikers, cross country skiers, families, and runners. Wide trail for multiple use. If you travel far enough there are beautiful camping areas for backpackers. Multiple trails in other directions as well, there is always something new to explore and close enough to Missoula. The river that runs along the trail is just beautiful! Very well maintained as well.
Missoulas backyard!
Very popular Missoula Recreation area. Many different types of a hike you can adventure into.
Very easy trails and a beautiful views
Really beautiful, and right next to a river. It has trails for mountain bikers, horses, and walk/joggers. Has dog clean up bags and restroom facilities, but it doesnt have any hand cleaning stations, so you need to bring your own.
The main trailhead was closed due to fire management but the western trails were open. Lots of bikers but nice trails.
Love hiking and biking there!
Easy to get to trailhead and great trails. It can get a bit on the busy side, but if you like the outdoors whether hiking, mountain biking or backpacking this is a great area.
Great for beginner or seasoned veterans. Rattlesnake trails head offers a vast amount of hiking and maybe the best of mountain biking in the region. This is what public land is all about.
Good trail, shadow and sunny condition change, good views
Epic hike and bike trailhead. Connect with Grant Creek or Marshall canyons for adventure, or bike to wilderness boundary and hike into wild for complete day trip.
Trails are well kept. We took the 1.7 mile and my Dad is 81. So you can do it easily. Good time to go and see the snow melting has the Rattlesnake Creek really going!
The Rattlesnake Recreation area has a lot to offer. One of the best places in Missoula for mountain biking, trail running, hiking and backcountry adventures.
Beautiful area, wildflowers are in bloom. Many trails with diverse landscapes. However, there are bear and moose, know how to handle yourself. Also, bring your own good map. There are many trails and the signage can be confusing.
An accessible trailhead and short walk to the creek that leads to a myriad of hikes and on into the wilderness. Restrooms and Parking.
Great place to hike or bike.
Get some
Great for running, biking and hiking in the summer. It can get very busy though
Nature and mountain biking at its finest
Great trail system.
Nice walk, not a lot of views
Super fun for hiking, mountain biking, or whatever youre into. Had a great day riding some fun trails.
If you like mtn bike climbing, Rattlesnake is a great place to ride
Great hicking. Amazing place to go clear your head.
Good sized parking lot. Easy access to large trail network. Popular, but easy enough to find an empty trail. Bears & mountain lion known to frequent area. Despite that, havent heard about any injuries.
Fantastic hiking in Missoula. Can almost catch a bus here, which makes it unique among wilderness areas. Tends to be mountain bike heavy in the lower parts, absolutely beautiful (and much more solitude) beyond the main trails.
Wonderful access to Rattlesnake National Recreation area; hikes and cross country skiing for all levels of proficiency. No dogs during winter.
Great network of trails
Beautiful, well-marked trails. A good mix of strenuous and leisurely, well-traveled and remote. Maps provided, ample parking.
Its so beautiful up here. There are miles and miles of trails that spread out over a seemingly infinite area. Ive still not explored them all!No dogs in winter, and leashes required otherwise. You may get lucky enough to come across a black bear or possibly even a mountain lion. The wilderness is 8 miles in and there is nordic skiing in the winter. Its also not very hilly, so its great for less experienced hikers.
Great place to walk you 4 legged children!!
Best, close trail system near Missoula. You can be in the Rattlesnake Wilderness Area in just 4 or 5 miles. Lots of people and mountain bikes, but the numbers drop off dramatically once youre a couple of miles from the trailhead.
It is a good place to get out of town
Great mountain biking anywhere in the Rattlesnake. Lots of walkers and bikers. Very well maintained.
Sweet trailhead, lots of MTBs. Wide easygoing gravel eventually has branches of forested single-trek stemming from it in multiple directions while meandering along a creek. Popular but still had no problem finding a creek beach for a few to let the dog splash around.
Beautiful place to hike with the family
This place is a well-kept secret in Montana. Its got something for just about everyone who wants to get outdoors. Ill admit Im more of a MTB trail rider, not a shredder (probably too old for that). Riding up the main corridor to the Franklin Bridge (about seven miles) is engaging on many fronts. The scenery is wonderful, and the creek at the bridge is especially scenic. Going to the Wilderness boundary on this road, another six or seven miles from the aforementioned bridge is for those who dont mind an uphill climb on a rocky road. The scenery is worth it, with some awe-inspiring spots. Its popular, but even with the parking lot full and spilling over onto the road, you will not encounter many people because the area has so many trails. Walking, biking, or hiking, its worth the visit.
Beautiful hike
Nice area with a beautiful stream
Getting busier with people, bit running here is what hooked me on Montana.
Love this place - So peaceful and beautiful
Badass descent on the trails here. Rugged climb for a ride so close to town. Top notch MTB!
Love it
Awesome slow easy paced hike
The trail setup here is convenient to access with trail types to please all levels of recreationists. From mountain biking, long or short walks, hikes with vertical rise and xc skiing in the winter. A beautiful place to spend your time right in Missoulas back yard. Over the years Ive seen cougars, black bears, deer (of course), coyote, elk and a whole list of avian species sure to please the avid birder. Truly a gem for the community to have this kind of easy access. One of the features that makes Missoula one of the best places to live!
Beautiful trail
World class MTB trails.
Nice!
Love it
Awesome!
